Apple TV pauses in audio

My Apple TV has brief (less than 1/2 sec) pauses when I am watching any of my TV shows or movies. The pauses occur approximately every 20 minutes. My video content is current all contained on my Apple TV's hard drive, so I don't believe that it's a streaming issue.
It didn't occur for the 1st couple months that I owned it and now it does. I don't believe that I changed any settings. The only thing that may have coincided (although I'm not sure) is that I moved my iTunes library to an external hard drive. Since the entire video content is duplicated on my ATV, I can't imagine that's the problem. Any help would be appreciated!

I may have a solution for you...
First... +_the problem_+, while playing any video (iTunes or self-made) and/OR playing any music (iTunes or CDRip) the audio pauses for 1/2 or 50 ms or .5 sec every 30 - 90 seconds.
NOTE:
1. the output from my aTV is via HDMI (I thought of saving on the cables... boy was I wrong).
2. the Receiver / DVD Home theater system / TV is a Samsung Model. (The problem)
3. I got the aTV replaced
4. I have sent the aTV for repairs and resets 2 times apart form the replacement.
*The Problem...*
I own a Samsung LCD TV 1080p and a Samsung HT-TXQ120T Home theater system (with 2 HDMI and 2 Digital Ins').
I was trying to use the free HDMI port on the DVD home theater package to plug the aTV in and that way ride the audio and video with FULL DEF and Digital Audio Clarity via the HDMI.
The Samsung has implemented the HDMI 1.3 standard a bit too rigidly and the aTV doesnt quite meet the HDMI 1.3 standards (or so I have read, read *+ref# 1+*, Post 25/88) and exurb...
"+When I called your support group they told me that 4065 is using the strict HDMI 1.3 protocol and according to them if Apple does not work - it is because Apple is not adhering to this - Apple claims they are since it works on other TV's (they hooked it to Sony and it worked fine).+"
Further reading on the Apple forums I came along this POST, but the lack of a reply was disheartening. Still digging around these forums I came across two more posts... (+*Ref #2 & #3*+)
Though the answer wasn't straight forward it kind of lead to it...
*The Solution...*
If you have a DVD receiver / Home theater /TV capable of receiving a Digital Optical Audio Input then your problems are solved. Try to mute the audio coming from the HDMI port. Voila!
aTV doesn't seem to have interrupted audio coming via the Digital Optical Audio Out or via the Toshlink cable.
I hope this direct answer helps you and others like me out... Spent 4 months on this annoying problem and no one at Apple seems to be having this direct answer....

  • Why doesn't Apple supply a simple audio recording app with the iPad? (Garage Band is not simple app)

I am going to be teaching an integrated media production course in the spring semester (creating an online college newspaper) and I want the students to use mini iPads to create images, videos and sound clips.   Images and video, no problem.   Easy to move to our iMacs in the lab for editing and inclusion in a college newspaper web site.   On the other hand, audio is a mess.   Sure, I can have them shoot video, import the video into Final Cut on the iMacs and then use Final Cut like an audio editor, but that is pretty lame.   They could download Garage Band but that would require all the students to have iTunes accounts, which is a real pain.   And moving audio recording made with Garage Band to the iMac is a real drag and way too much work.   Why the **** can't Apple include a simple audio memo program in the basic iPad app setup?   This is really old school stuff that was on computers way back when.   Using Garage Band for that simple function is like swatting flies with a sledge hammer.

Make finding a simple audio recorder the students first assignment. Have them give presentation.  Have file a news story to the 'paper'.

  • Playback pauses and audio sync issues with live video stream

I'm seeing playback pauses about every three seconds and audio sync issues with our live demo stream when using the OSMF/Strobe player.  It happens on both our 2Mbps 720p stream and our 480p 750Kbps stream so it does not seem to be related to higher resolution/bandwidth streams.  It also happens if I point directly to a stream asset or if I point to a .f4v with both streams listed for dynamic so it does not seem to be related to dynamic streaming specifically.
The same live streams play back very well without pauses or audio sync issues in the Akamai's dynamic player and even slightly better with JW 5.2.
I have viewed the OSMF/Strobe playback on three different laptops of various age (3 months to 2 years) and two are Windows and one is Linux.  I have also tried the various buffering options on the Flash Media Player Setup and Strobe setup and it has not made a noticeable difference.
To see the stream with the Akamai player, go to:  http://live.kulabyte.com
To see the stream with the OSMF/Strobe player, go to:  http://live.kulabyte.com/osmf
I do not have JW set up for public viewing yet, but the two above show the distinct difference.
We are really hoping to start pointing our customers towards the OSMF player because of the support provided by the community and Adobe, but we have to get the quality of the playback to be acceptable first.
If someone has ideas on debugging I can PM the actual video assets to you.
    Thanks,
    Tim

    Hi Tim,
You need to add this setting:
    dynamicStreamBufferTime=8
The actual value can be higher or lower. The best practice is to use a value that is twice the keyframe distance. Anyway, try different values and see which performs the best for your content.
I know that the setup page does not contain this option and it is not documented in the UserGuide. We simply missed it. Sorry.
Also note that the dynamic buffering algorithms are not being used for dynamic streaming content. I tried to explain this here:
    https://sourceforge.net/adobe/smp/wiki/Dynamic%20Buffering/
Looking forward to your confirmation that this solved your issue.

  • Why did apple stop selling carbon audio's zooka bluetooth wireless speakers?

I saw this very interesting Bluetooth speaker from Carbon Audio called Zooka in Apple store few weeks back, but I was still trying to make up my mind about it, but to my surprise this model siezed to exit on the online store, and all searches aggersively point me to other models when I insist on searching for it by name.
Question: why did apple stop selling carbon audio's zooka bluetooth wireless speakers?  Is there something wrong with it, or is it one of thse commercial disputes that I dont need to know about, and I'm good to look for it elsewhere.

I just got this reply back fron Carbon Audio's help Desk if anyone's interested:
Apple had an issue with our labeling, forcing us to recall all of our product to relabel it. That process is complete and Apple will be restocking their shelves very shortly."

  • Pause Streaming Audio

I'm trying to pause streaming audio with a "pause" button.
However, when I click the "play" button, the audio begins a few
    seconds after where it stopped.
My theory is that the "pause" button isn't recording where
the audio stopped playing; it's actually recording where the audio
stopped loading. So if ten seconds of audio has played, but twenty
seconds of audio has loaded, the "pause" button will record the
pause position as twenty seconds, and the play button will start
    the audio at twenty seconds.
Does that sound like a reasonable theory? Does anyone know
    how this might be fixed?
    Here's my code:

Looks like my theory was wrong! When I hit the "pause"
button, it records a number that corresponds to a point in the
audio stream, but that number does not correspond to the point at
which the audio stream was paused -- it's somewhere between two to
five seconds later. I have no explanation as to why this is!
So I guess my revised question is: has *anyone* been able to
get the "pause" and "play" buttons to work properly with
*streaming* audio? I've come across some comments that suggest that
it might not be possible, but I've never seen it explicitly stated
    that it's not possible.
In other words: should I give up?

  • Video playback pauses/loses audio

I bought a 60GB 5G iPod in December. Used it without issue for a month. Then it completely died (blank screen - nothing). I sent it back and got a refurb replacement. I copied over all my audio/video to the new one and now have an issue playing back video.
I'm using MPEG4/XVID, 320k, AAC audio, 320x240 videos I encoded with ffmpeg. Note that these files worked flawlessly with the first iPod I bought (before it died).
The same files copied to the replacement iPod play for about 15 seconds, then pause for about 5 seconds, then resume playing without audio. The only way to get the audio back is to scan in either direction then resume playing.
I called for repair. I sent in my iPod. I got it back several days later with it reformatted and a note saying they didn't find anything wrong so they just sent it back. I thought maybe the reformat fixed something but it's acting exactly the same way.
Has anyone else seen this? Is there anything I can do? Am I doomed to never play video with my video-enabled iPod?

Brad..mine did the same thing and I received help here with the following message from Dre...
This problem has been occuring especially with the 60gb iPod's. The best solution to this problem is to downgrade back to version 1.0 considering that you recently purchased this product your iPod probably came with update version 1.1 I have instructions on how to downgrade back to version 1.0
Here are more detailed instructions on how to go back to 1.0, espescially if you bought your iPod in the last couple of months and it came with 1.1.
First, please download the older version of the iPod Updater here...
    http://appldnld.m7z.net/content.info.apple.com/iPod/ww/win/061-2225.20051128.PDW nw/iPodSetup.exe
Now install that updater and restart your computer.
Now open the iPod updater (Start-->all programs-->iPod and find the iPod updater you just installed
Open the iPod Updater and connect your iPod. With that older version of the iPod updater you just installed, restore your iPod by clicking restore.
The iPod will restore and go back to software version 1.0. Now reload everything back into iTunes.
It does wipe everything off of your IPOD..but if you still have it in ITunes or on your harddrive...you're ok.
Also keep in mind that whenever you hook up your IPOD from now on, it will prompt you to update to 1.1 again...just click cancel to decline and keep on keeping on!!!
    Good luck!

  • Pausing the audio and video together using the skin

    Hello,
I have coverted some avi files to flv and brought them into
captivate. The video itself has no audio associated with it. I used
Cp4 to record the audio and everything seems to be fine. What I
want to be able to do is use one of the video skins and be able to
pause both the audio and the video. Right now the video pauses, but
    the audio continues.
Any ideas on how to do this?
    Thanks,

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Which videos are you trying to play, video shot with the iPhone will stream using AirPlay without the need for other third party Apps.

  • Time-Sensitive Problem:  Automatically Pauses all audio

Everything on my iPod Touch 3g works perfectly EXCEPT, since last night, whenever I try to play an audio file it automatically pauses. The main button will glow briefly like normal, but will not play. The small play icon will appear in the top right for an instant but then disappear. I need suggestions.
What happened: I purchased two songs last night through my wi-fi connection. They played fine. When I tried switching to a different song after listening to those the problem began. Nothing changed: no plugging/unplugging, no water -- I hadn't even budged from my seat.
What I've tried: draining the battery and re-sets. One site suggested I remove my earbuds, shut the iPod down, reinsert the reset the ipod, plug in the earbuds and do a reset. Three tries and it hasn't worked.
+The big problem is I'm overseas without access to my laptop w/iTunes so I'm limited. There are no Apple stores in the country I'm visiting and I'm here for two more weeks. I have very sporadic and unreliable internet and with a lot of travel time in the mix I was counting on audiobooks to help pass the time.+

I am experiencing exactly the same problem.

  • Logic will not let me edit Apple Loops in the Audio Window.  Any ideas?

When I select a blue apple loop and put it in an audio track it works perfectly but when I go to the audio window it will not let me edit the Apple Loop. A window pops up and says "The requested action can not be performed because the edited file is an Apple Loop." In the manual it says that both green and blue Apple loops can be edited but every time I try to edit an Apple Loop that window pops up. It only does this for apple loops. What can I do.

Hi there, this is because you cannot edit apple loops, other than cutting blue loops witht he scissors. If you want to edit/alter loops bounce them down to audio files, then you can do pretty much anything..

  • Imac as a remote for apple tv sync'ed audio

    Hey guys,
Ive got a setup that i'm looking to maximise. the setup i'm running is an apple tv gen1/itunes with some audio sync'ed to the HDD on the apple tv. I know the 'remote' app for my iphone lets me control playback, but was wondering if in app existed to use my imac as a remote. The reason i dont want to use airplay is that some of the lossless files that are streamed to the apple tv get cut during playback.
    thanks
    Chris

    Winston,
due to the file size that lossless files are, combined with an overused wifi network, sometimes playback is choppy.
looking into maybe going a wired route through the optical out of my imac to a DAC to my amp....

  • Apple TV2 missing analog audio output for multi-zone system

Found out the hard way that most receivers can't support digital audio in multiple zones (i.e., Zone 2). Since Apple TV2 (ATV2) dispensed with any analog output, if you have a whole-house system that depends on mult-zone to distribute audio to various speakers, you won't be able to use ATV2 to stream music to anything other than Zone 1. The only outputs are HDMI and optical (both digital audio). I think I found a work around (which, of course costs more money) which is a "de-embedding" device from Atlona that takes HDMI in and splits out the audio to analog and passes the HDMI through to the receiver. The analog audio output then lets me connect to the analog in on the receiver so it can stream to all zones. I figure Apple just didn't have enough real estate on the new product to make room for analog, but it's a pain. Hope this helps someone. If anyone knows a better work-around, I'd love to hear it.

I have the same issue with a MacMini I use for music. My solution was to use an inexpensive optical splitter - one feed to the optical input of my receiver and the second to a DAC. Then run standard RCA audio cables from the DAC to the analog Zone 2 inputs.
Here is a link for a DAC
    http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?cid=104&cp_id=10423&cs_id=1042302&pid=6884&seq=1&format=2
They should have the splitter as well.

  • How can I allow the user to pause the audio of a slide (and restart it) before continuing on to the

Most of my slides have a combination of test/graphics and voiceover.  I would like to allow the user to pause, resume, and replay the audio of each slide.  I know, as a learner, I sometimes need to go back and hear something again -- or pause until a distraction has passed.
How can I tie audio to a playbar or set of buttons?  I know if it's video, it can be done.  How do I give them control of the audio?
I am in Captivate 7.  My files are .mp3 files.
    Thanks - TL

You cannot add extra buttons to the playbar but you could add a Replay button to the slide and have this button execute a Standard Advanced action with a Jump to Slide action that points to the same slide you are currently on.  This should effectively jump your user back to the beginning of the same slide.
