Applescript/Automator to import Photoshop Elements Albums?

My husband finally converted to a Mac in January (yay!!!), and all in all everything works beautifully for him, because all of the programs he was using on his Windows PC are on his Mac.  Our biggest issue though is that Photoshop Elements will not sync through iTunes on his Mac.  While you might think it would be easier for him to just convert his albums to iPhoto or Aperture, we will not discuss the reasons why this is not going to happen :-)
However, I'm trying to see if there isn't a way for me to create some kind of "background" automation that could copy his albums into iPhoto or Aperture.  I use Aperture myself, so in using "referenced" files he would only end up with copies of the albums themselves, and not actually duplicate the photo files.  I haven't used iPhoto enough to know if this is possible.
Can anyone think of a seemless way I could set this up for him?  It wouldn't need to be TOTALLY automatic.  I mean I could give him an icon to click occasionally.  I just don't see anything in Automator for Elements, so I would have to do an Applescript if even possible, and I while I can take an existing applescript sometimes and modify it to my needs, I'm DEFINITELY not very good at Applescript.
Or should I really just make him move away from Photoshop Elements?
Thanks!
Danita

Danitaz,
Did you ever figure out the problem with your mail that was going out from the wrong server (2 yrs. ago)?  I have the same problem from my MacBook Pro, using Mac Mail.  I try to send email from my work account and then find to my surprise and dismay that I get an autoreply in my personal gmail account from the person I wrote to.  I look in the Sent mail for my work account and it looks like the message went from there but I can see in the reply that it instead went from my gmail account!  I tried checking the box in my work account that says "send only from this SMTP server" but that didn't fix the problem.  The only way seems to be turning off the gmail in order to send with certainty from my work account.  If you have any suggestions I would love to try them.  Thanks!
PS Sorry to write off topic here.  I wanted to reply to the original posting but I guess since it is so old I couldn't do so.

  • Import Photoshop Elements 9 Albums into iPhoto '11 Albums

    Hi,
I have about 10,000 pictures organized into albums on Photoshop Elements on my PC, and I'd like to move them all into iPhoto on my iMac, and retain all the album organization.
I've tried this process several times, and I am able to transfer the photos, but I loose all of the album organization in the process. I followed the steps for Photoshop to iPhoto conversion at the bottom of this post (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080702225914AAmKVhU), but what I get in iPhoto is just an organization by the folder on the hard drive, no albums.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks!

Thanks Terence, but my Photoshop Elements Albums are organized by a combination of date and topic (e.g. "2006: Christmas") so using the Photoshop Elements Organizer I can't easily find the underlying folders that the photos in an album are from, to be able to drag them anywhere.
Also, I tried just dragging an Album directly from the PSE Organizer into iPhoto, but it doesn't work -- it won't allow me to drop it there and it doesn't create an iPhoto album.
I think what I'm going to try next is creating keywords in PSE that match my Album names then exporting those keywords into the JPEG files. I believe iPhoto can read those tags on import of the files and I can re-create the albums manually. Still this is alot of work, and might be easier to just purchase the Mac version of PSE 9.
Lastly, I just remembered that PSE Organizer saves information about edited photos for me -- i.e. when I edited a file I only see the latest rev in the Organizer and the original files are hidden from view (they call it a "stack"). I doubt that iPhoto is going to recognize this, so I think I'm going to end up with duplicates of any photos that I edited.
Any ideas on how to avoid this without having to manually find all the edited files and archive them somehow?

  • Importing photoshop elements 5 (for PC) into iphoto

I'm sure this question has been asked many times and I would have searched for it, but I can't find the "search this forum" button. I apologize in advance for being blind/daft.
So I just switched from Win/Linux to Mac (yay!). I have THOUSANDS of photos all meticulously tagged with Adobe Photoshop Elements 5. Is there a way to import the photoshop elements album to iPhoto and keep all the metadata?

Yes if the metadata is written to the IPTC.

  • Ordering Photoshop Element Album Print on Kodak Gallery

I have spent many many hours creating an album using Photoshop Element 7,0 and then wanted to print using Kodak Gallery. Did not work. Here is what happened:
Click on the PSE file on the organizer.
Then click 'Order print' and landed on Kodak Gallery site and logged in, I can see my album there but could not find a way to simply order a print copy of it.  Only choice seems to select 'New album' which then would force me to redo all the work, reselecting templates etc...
    What am I missing ?

A bit more details should help here.  Essentially, I am talking about trying to export a PSE album file from Photoshop Element to the Kodak Gallery website to order a print copy. Here how I did it:
    1. Went from 'organiser' to Create Photobook, imported all my pictures and created the pse file using Photoshop Element 6,0 templates, backgrounds etc.
    2. Saved it in Organiser and on a separate file located on my desktop.
    3. Reopen Organiser, clicked on Share, Order print which directed me to Kodak Gallery site. I could see there my pse file or album.
    4. Tried to find a print album function to just order a print copy but did not find anything like it.Always forced to go through their 'New album' function which essentially meant redoing all the work.
    5. Tried to use the print photo function but then would not import or use pse file, only jpeg.
    Hope this help.

  • Possible to import Photoshop Elements 8 Catalog into Lightroom?

Is it possibel to import a catalog from Photoshop Elements 8 into the latest version of Lightroom?  I've kind of outgrown some of Element's functionality and I'd like to take Lightroom for a spin.  However, it would be useless if it won't import my complex set of albums, tags, etc.

Lightroom 2 cannot convert PSE8 catalogs. (Maybe Lightroom 3 will do so, but no one really knows...)
You can do a partial import. Using psedbtool, write your metadata to the photo files, then import the individual photos into Lightroom 2. You will lose collection membership, stacks, version sets, creations and a few other things.

  • Importing Photoshop Elements tags into iPhoto 09 keywords

I am looking for a method of importing my Photoshop Elements photos & videos with their tags into iPhoto as keywords. I've seen several posts on this topic but none quite work for my situation. I'm hoping someone has a good recommendation. I have the following...
    * iPhoto 09
    * PSE 5.0
    * 10K+ photos with an average of 2-3 tags each
    * want to import tags for video clips as well as for photos
    Here's what I've tried...
    * iPhoto did actually import a random few pictures with the tags (maybe 12 out of 10K)
    * PSE DB Tool to write the tag data to the files. This requires PSE 6.0 or greater (i have 5.0). http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/
    * PSE native tag writing. Doesn't write tags on video clips and is littered with bugs anyway.
    * Other tag importing tool at http://www.cv2h.com/PSA2iPhoto/Welcome.html. Does not work with iPhoto 09.
    Any ideas?
    Help
    Kyle

The IPTC metadata is for image files only. Video files can't have that metadata written to the file. Application can assign metadata to video files but they are kept in databases associated with the application and point to the video file.
Some DAM (digital asset management) applications can add keywords, etc. to video files but the data stays with the application.

  • ITunes doesn't find photos in Photoshop Elements album

I've used iTunes to sync several Photoshop Elements 6 albums to my ATV. There is one album that iTunes finds but it does not think there are any photos in it. When you go to the Photo tab on the ATV device in iTunes it searches for a few seconds and then updates with the number of photos in the album. For that one album iTunes doesn't show a number at all. But if I look at the album from Photoshop there are 237 photos in it. Any ideas?

Suggest that you rename the printer. It is my understanding that Elements becomes "confused" with somewhat similar names
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/865/cpsid_86566.html
In Devices & Printers in control panel, right click the printer and go to Printer Properties.
Please let us know if this works after renaming.

  • Importing Photoshop Elements 6.0 .psd files into iPhoto

Hey everyone. I am trying to import a bunch of .psd files into iPhoto to keep them organized. Some import just fine, for others though, the thumbnail gets all screwed up. It's almost like there are shapes clipped out of the real .psd file. When I open the file in PSE everything looks fine. It's just the thumbnail in iPhoto that is all messed up. Does anyone know how I can fix this? Thanks for your time.

This is what I found in the PSE 6 Help file:
"Masks, which let you manipulate, isolate, and protect specific parts of an image. In Photoshop Elements, alpha channels are called saved selections. To save an alpha channel, choose Select > Save Selection. To load an alpha channel, choose Select > Load Selection."
Go to the Select menu in PSE6 and select the last option, Delete selection. It should be useable. That will let the image be fully displayed in iPhoto. You can set PSE6 as the editor of choice in iPhoto as described below:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds

  • Import Photoshop Elements tags

    Hi,
I am new with iPhoto and wonder if it is possible to import the library I have in Photoshop elements today. A number of tags I want to keep.
    Stefan

I have the same issue. How do I write the data? Also, I already had my photos transferred over to my new macbookpro from my Dell by Apple One-to-one service. I specifically asked about preserving all of my elements tags before I left my computers with them. I don't see any of my tags in iphoto. My photos are now organized by the folders they were in. Unfortunately, my folders do not correspond to any rhyme or reason because I always used elements to organize my photos. HELP!!! ;-D

  • How to access automation tools in photoshop elements 11?

I have photoshop elements 11 and the automation tools button is greyed out and cannot be selected. How can I access this function?

I don't understand. There is no "automation" feature. It's an empty spot where you can put something if it needs it (mostly legacy plugins). There are no innate features that magically turn on when you install something.

  • How to correctly import PhotoShop Elements catalog?

I have a PhotoShop Elements with >12,000 images.  I have keywords assigned and some are rated.
My computer has gone from WinXP to Win7.  I have also had several different hard drive upgrades.
I currently have C:, D:, E: as available hard drives and F: and G: as Optical drives.
When I import, it has the correct number of photos, but thinks that everything is on F:.  I believe that the E: drive used to be a different volume number previously.
I can manually refind every folder, but that will be very time consuming as I have around 100 folders.
Is there some way to say "Use E: instead of F:"?
    Thanks,
    Dean

Why not backup the PSE catalog and then reimport it into a single drive/folder. then you shoudl have a clean process

A catalog backup created by the organizer is a folder containing many files and sub-directories. It contains everything to restore both your 'catalog' and your media files.
Those files are mainly renamed version of each media files (also of the xmp sidecar files which contain metadata changes), but two files are very important:
    - the catalog.buc is a renamed copy of the sqlite database : catalog.pse12db. You could rename it back to recover the database, but normally only the restore process uses it.
    - the backup.tly file contains everything necessary to re-create your folder tree and rename your media files to their original names. It's the important file the backup process searches for before starting the restore. Note that when you start the backup process and browse to the catalog backup location, you may not see the backup.tly file immediately, but only after a few seconds. As soon as that file is displayed in the dialog, your can start the restore.

  • Importing Photoshop elements ... weird black boxes showing up in Motion.

When I try to import a layer from a PSD file into Motion, it imports with a strange black box of the same dimensions as the layer.
For instance, if I'm animating several letters of a word, and I import the letters separately, each letter comes into Motion bound within a black box ... almost as if I flattened the text against a black background.
    It's pretty annoying--any thoughts?

The problem lies with the psd file. Could be a couple of things. Presumably, there is a proper alpha channel in Photoshop?
Did you make sure that the image mode is set to RGB? Other color modes will give you strange results.
If you select the psd in the Media tab, what does the inspector say about the alpha interpretation.
Usually this works perfectly fine in Motion, so I'm leaning towards a problem with the picture.

  • Using applescript/automator to import and categorise multiple .txt files

    Hello all,
I wonder is anyone can offer me some advice on the best approach to importing multiple text files into excel. I've searched excel specific forums, but it seems that the macro's that work on windows wont work on my mac.
Basically, I am trying to find a way of importing multiple comma delimanted text files into an excel workbook. If it is possible, it would also be great to automatically compute the data into summarised variables (e.g., the data is multiple reaction time trials [220 to be precise] and I would like to create cells within excel with the mean scores from groups of the trials [A1 to A20, A21 to A40, A41 to A80 etc.]) within a seperate sheet (at present I am importing the text files one by one, performing the calculations, before copying and paste special into a summary sheet).
I have put an example of the file in dropbox (https://www.dropbox.com/s/9y6valpkzsq8kgz/Example%20workbook.xlsx) to give anyone who is willing to help a better idea of what I mean.
    Thanks in advance.
