Applescript: "execute menu command" syntax

Greetings,
Anyone know the syntax for using:
execute menu command v : executes a menu command using the menu shortcut string
execute menu command
menu command string text : menu command shortcut
I can't figure out what string to use for the "menu command string" argument.
Thanks!

Hi,
I’m not an applescript guy, but the following link may help you with the concept: http://kasyan.ho.com.ua/open_menu_item.html . You may think I’ve lost my mind in that 1) it isn’t applescript and 2) it’s for InDesign, but my thoughts are that it may serve as basis for you to google what you need.

  • Any way to execute menu commands?

    I'd like to execute the equivalent functionality to some existing menu commands in Bridge from a Bridge script. In particular, I'd like to be able to turn off the favorites panel and the folders panel (View/Favorites Panel) and (View/Folders Panel). Using the published menu identifiers for them, I can tell if they are checked already (e.g. displayed already), but I haven't figured out how to actually call those commands.
    In case you are wondering why I'd like to turn thse off, I'm creating a new window/document and displaying a custom browse scheme. When using a custom browse scheme, the folders window shows nothing useful so I'd like to turn it off. Further, since I'm not displaying files and folders, I think it will be less confusing to users if they don't see the folders pane.
    Any ideas?

    Bummer. Another one for the feature request list.
    I'd actually like full scripting control of the chrome including setting a workspace, setting visibility of panels, access to the filter menu in the toolbar, etc...

  • Using AppleScript "execute" command in Acrobat

    Acrobat's scripting dictionary has a cryptic description of an "execute" command that is supposed to execute a menu item "as if a user clicked it".
    No information is given as to how to identify the desired menu command except "reference". Huh? Is there documentation or a tutorial on this anywhere?
    Related question, how can AppleScript identify auxiliary windows such as the Document Properties window and its various button bar items and other fields?
    Here's one simple thing I'm trying to accomplish: I'm using System Events to script some items like keywords in the Document Properties window. Sometimes it takes several seconds for a document to open. Without putting in huge wait loops, I'd like to execute the menu item "File: Properties..." and then wait for the window to open using a loop like this:
    repeat until exists <some way to identify the Document Properties window>
    end repeat
    Any hope of doing stuff like this? I already tore out enough hair trying to get AppleScript's "do script" command to work (only lately having discovered that the script file apparently must be plain text, no Unicode).

    The Macintosh keyboard does not have a true "Enter" key any more - not on the MacBook Pro or the iBooks. Modifier keys do not seem to work either. I've turned on the System Prefs > Keyboard & made it appear in the top Menu Bar. From this menu choose "Show Keyboard Viewer" to see how keys + Return are displayed. Only the Function key changes the Return key. Function + Delete is a forward delete. But Function + Return is just another Return. So any highlighted text is deleted! Command + Return stays on the same line and selected text remains. I will try KeyRemap4MacBook utility then consider buying a USB numeric keypad. Urggh.

  • Executing a menu command from a script

    Hi,
    I'm still not very familiar with the PS CS4 object model and I'm wondering whether I can trigger the execution of a menu command from a script.
    My purpose is to fix the CS4 issue with some plugins that have a bug causing some elements of the PS CS4 interface (like the Arrange Documents drop down menu) to appear blank when hovered with the mouse. This problem usually disappears when launching these plugins. For example, you'll have the problem when installing Nik Software's Silver Efex (they promised to fix this in February but we're still waiting). Launching "File | Automate | Nik Selective Tool" and then closing the dialog fixes the issue... until you re-launch PS.
    So I want to do that automatically when PS starts. I tried with an action which I attached to the startup event but the action is not launched (probably because the plugin is not active yet). So I tried the scripting way but I don't see how I can launch a menu command automatically.
    Thanks in advance.
    Patrick

    Most events that I have used run the script after the event but I'm not sure about the startup event order either.
    You might try add the creation of a new doc to your action. Then after the nik step close the doc without saving. That may force Photoshop to wait until the plugin loads before running the action.
    Another thing you could try is create an script that calls your action. Something like
    doAction( 'run Nik', 'startup actions' );// action name, action set. I don't think that will help but its simple and might work.
    If that doesn't work then I can help you with a script that you can attach to a different event. It check to see if it's been run before and if not run your action. You could attach the script to all events to make sure it gets run soon after startup.

  • Menu Command to run a DataManager Package

    Hello
    I need to have a command button in BPC-Excel spread sheet, that will execute a Data Management Package. Any idea what is the Menu Command Macro for it?  Where I could find all the menu command macros in BPC 7.0?
    Thanks and best regards
    DipM

    Dip,
      On  BPC  MS ---these  are  two  commands  available..I'm  sure  these  shld  be  available  in  NW too....but in case  you  dont  see  the  expected  behaviour..Your  best bet...search for  this command in  SAP Support  Portal under  Application area "EPM-BPC-NW"  if  this  command  is still  available..and  for  all  the  rest  of  Mnu  commands..
    MNU_eData_RUNPACKAGE
    Opens the Data Manager Run Package dialog box. Allows users who have access to run database packages.
    MNU_eDATA_SELECTPACKAGE
    Open a specific Data Manager package.
          Syntax for this command is MNU_eDATA_SELECTPACKAGE(<package name>, <package file path>, <teamname>, <package group>)
          For only this menu command, the parameters are part of the MacroName so you must leave the Parameter section blank. For example, if you have MNU_eData_SelectPackage(""import"",""examples/import.dts"",""HQ"") in cell A1, FX Restatement in cell A2, your EvMNU function would be: EvMNU(A1,A2,).
    for  adding  a button:On your EVDRE, go to EXCEL VIEW menu and forms...and from that click the botton and draw it on your EVDRE.rt  click  and  put  your  command  in  the  macro..
    hope  this  helps ...

  • Menu commands for Scheduling Gantt

    I'm trying to add my own custom commands to a Scheduling Gantt on my page. I have some questions/comments.
    1. I can add items to the tablePopupMenu facet, and they show up fine and my listener gets executed. How can I find out what resource was selected when this event fires, and/or the IDs of all of the selected resources? The actionEvent has very little information in it and is just generic. Do I need to tell it somehow that it is a "resource" event?
    2. I have added items to the chartPopupMenu facet, and they show up fine on the menu, but the listener is not called when I click the menu item. This seems like a bug but maybe I'm just doing something wrong.
    3. I would have thought that whatever menu items I add to these popup menus would also be added to the "Resource" and "Task" menus on the menu bar, but they're not. How can I add my own menu commands there?
    4. Is it possible for me to change the text that displays for the "Resource", "Task" and "View" menus? We have a legacy language translation system that I need to use to get the menu choices.
    Any and all advice appreciated!

  • How to execute unix command from ODI Procedure

    Hi,
    I am trying to execute below unix command from ODI Procedure (Command on Target tab) but I am getting the error "java.io.IOException: Cannot run program "cd": error=2, No such file or directory" but when I try to execute the same command using OdiOSCommand, it is executing successfully. I don't want to use shell script to execute this command. Is there any specific syntax am I missing to execute this command from ODI procedure?
    cd /project3/tmt/;ls *.dmp > dmplist.lst
    Please help me on this...
    Thanks
    MT

    Hi nahlikh,
    Thank you for the reply.
    I used below command in Procedure but still getting the same error as "java.io.IOException: Cannot run program "OdiOSCommand": error=2, No such file or directory".
    OdiOSCommand "-COMMAND=cd /project3/tmt/;ls *.dmp > dmplist.lst"
    as I mentioned earlier if I use the command cd /project3/tmt/;ls *.dmp > dmplist.lst in OdiOSCommand tool it is executing successfully without any issues.
    any thoughts appreciated to get a solution for this issue.
    Thanks

  • Actobat 9 Execute Menu Item problem

    I have a new PC with Window 7 and have successfully loaded Acrobat 9 pro - but a lot of the Acrobat functionality is now missing (it all worked under the XP platform). For example, when creating a form, using a buttom with an 'Execute menu item' command is not possible - it's blank actually. As this is the most useful tool within Acrobat forms it's really annoying. I have upgraded to 9.4.1 which is supposed to be Window 7 compatible but no luck. I've unistalled and reinstalled and called Adobe support (4 hours!) and still no solution.
    Can anyone help me?

    After selecting this action you're supposed to go to the actual menus and
    select the menu item that should be executed. This is instead of choosing it
    from a list. Did you try that?

  • Unable to execute a command line command using Java

    I am trying to run a command to add a group name. It is executed in command prompt of Windows 2003/2000
    Say this is the command I want to execute:
    net localgroup LordSM /add
    Here LordSM is the group name.
    I wrote the following code but it does not seem to work. Please suggest.
    String ABC=Value1TextField.getText();
    Value2Label.setText("Value is now " + ABC);
    // Above is to get value from a JText Field
    // Below is the code to run command for adding a group name to a System.
    String ExecutedCmd = "net localgroup " + ABC + "/add";

    BufferedReader stdError = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(p.getErrorStream()));

    System.out.println("Here is the standard output of the command:\n");
    while ((s = stdInput.readLine()) != null)
    { System.out.println(s); }
    // read any errors from the attempted command
    System.out.println("Here is the standard error of the command (if any):\n");
    while ((s = stdError.readLine()) != null)
    { System.out.println(s); }

    I had even tried this:
    Runtime rt =Runtime.getRuntime();
    String[] cmd = new String[3];
    cmd[0] = "cmd.exe";
    cmd[1]="net localgroup";
    cmd[2] =ABC + "/add";
    rt.exec(cmd);
    but again, it does not give any error as such, but it does not create the group name either. Please suggest. We can see the group names that are added on right clicking My Computer Icon and click Manage and then go to User & Group section. On executing either of the code nothing happens.
    Thanks

  • Error when creating or updating command syntax in an ODI procedure

    Hi - I'm new to ODI and trying to create/update a procedure. It doesn't seem like it matters whether the sql statement is correct or not a generic message always seems to be displayed when the command syntax is modified. On a different machine, this is not a problem and procedures can be created or modified. I've compared the setup of the two machines and they appear to be the same. Outside of ODI, I can connecting or executing sql statements without any issues.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi Ben,
    The reports you are using are linked subreports or unlinked subreports?

  • "FlushLogFiles" menu command in Forte e-console affects method call performance

    Issue: When calling a Forte Wrapper Service Object of C Library on Unix, the execution of the call seems to be
    affected by executing the "FlushLogFiles" menu command on the service. Without the "flushing", the execution seems
    to take unreasonably long, even "hanging"; with the "flushing", the execution seems to reach expected performance.
    Env Details:
    Forte Verson: 5.0.3
    OS: Unix Solaris 8.0

    I would check the C Library code and make sure you are not writing anything to standard output. That is the only thing I can think about that would cause this problem.

  • Execute hadoop command inside a runbook

    How do I execute a hadoop command inside an automation runbook.  I want to be able to unzip files from blob after the cluster has been automatically created.  I tried using a custom script action after the cluster is up but it failed. it said that
    it downloaded the script but then failed to run the script.  Is there syntax i can use inside my runbook to execute a command? something like
    $output = Invoke-HDICmdScript -CmdToExecute "%HADOOP_HOME%\bin\hadoop fs -touchz /solr-installation";
    is the Invoke-HDICmdScript -CmdToExecute a valid command inside a runbook?
    thanks
    tg

    You can use the Add-AzureHDInsightScriptAction cmdlet to run custom scripts during your cluster deployment inside a Runbook. For example, to install Spark, you can use the following command:
    $config = Add-AzureHDInsightScriptAction -Config $config -Name "Install R" -ClusterRoleCollection HeadNode,DataNode -Uri
    https://hdiconfigactions.blob.core.windows.net/rconfigactionv02/r-installer-v02.ps1

  • DIAdem 2011: Error while executing "PicPDFExport" command

    I'm using DIAdem v 11.3.0f4563 on Win2003 (32bit).
    I'm unable to export reports to PDF (this has worked fine on previous DIAdem versions on the same HW/OS).
    The problem occurs every time I select "File -> PDF Export..." from the menu.
    First i get to select the file name, then a messagebox appears with the following text:
    Error while executing "PicPDFExport" command.
    Error type: UNKNOWN
    Error address: 0000AEF7
    Module name:kernel32.dll
    After clicking "OK" the menus and buttons no longer work (but I'm able to switch between the different tabs), so I have to restart DIAdem.
    I also have a script for exporting reports to DIAdem, this produces the same error message (but the rest of the application is still working after clicking OK, so no need to restart DIAdem).

    Hello salte,
