Applet hangsup at startup
Hi All,
I am using Developer Server6.0 sand IIS and Jinitiator 1.1.17 .
when i run the HTML page, then the splash screen(blue scree of developer) is displayed and it hangsup.cursor style is normal.
previously i deployed forms successfully with the same configuration at another site.
But now it is getting hangsup at current site. do i need to set any classpath or etc..
i set FORMS60_OUTPUT,FORMS60MAPPING. i tried by putting my fmx,html page and all in the same diretory(d:\orant\forms60\java\).
when i gie wrong fmx name and run, then it is giving proper error.
It is very urgent to me. any ideas?
Thanks in adance

Do you mean, to start an applet with parameters ?
sure
html code:
<APPLET CODE = "MyApplet.class" WIDTH = "300" HEIGHT = "100">
<PARAM NAME = "param1" VALUE = "value1" />
</APPLET>
applet java code:
String param1 = getParameter("param1");

Applet hangs at startup [SOLVED]
Hi All,
I am facing problem with launching my forms application.
Version:
Oracle Application Server 10g Release2
Jinitiator: 1.3.1.22
IE7, IE6
When i launch my application after applet is initialized and splash screen is launched nothing happens. I can see a window Oracle Developer Forms runtime -Web with only 'window' as the only menu item.
I have tried various things like using Jinitiator 1.3.1.28, using Sun JPI instead of Jinitiator but nothing has worked so far.
I am able to access applications hosted on other servers but not this one.
I tried setting forms_timeout to 15 but no success.
I am having same problem with IE7 as well as IE6.
With IE7 i tried using
Jinit: 1.3.1.22, 1.3.1.28
Sun JPI: 1.6.0_05
With IE I tired using
Jinit: 1.3.1.22
Sun JPI: 1.4.2_05
Appreciate any help fixing this issue.
Also to add, I checked Java Console for any errors by enabling trace but no help from there either.

Now this path c:/ora10gas/forms/java/java/awt does not exist in my machine and there is only registry.dat file in c:/ora10gas/forms/java/oracle/forms/registry folder.
Still I am clueless what could be wrong.
Thanks and Regards

Need help in executing EEM applet only once
Do we have any sample script for EEM applet counter ? We want applet to execute once after reload after matching a string . We tried couple of solutions like “ server suspend “( customer does not like server suspend) and event counter ( this does not allow syslog string matching ). Please let me know if there are any options.
At the router reload, match the string , bring down the interface and run this applet only once . I have been trying multiple messages in Bootup log for this for bringing the interface down.
The issue we are facing is that most of the bootup log messages can be triggered when the router is up as well which will result in triggering of the applet which is what we want to avoid.
event manager applet Interface_down
event syslog pattern "SPA removed from subslot 0/0"
trigger delay 10
action 1.0 cli command "enable"
action 1.5 cli command "config t"
action 2.0 cli command "interface gi0/0/0"
action 2.5 cli command "shutdown"
action 3.0 cli command "end"
event manager applet Interface_up
event syslog pattern "Bulk Sync succeeded"
trigger delay 100
action 1.0 cli command "enable"
action 1.5 cli command "config t"
action 2.0 cli command "interface gi0/0/0"
action 2.5 cli command "no shutdown"
action 3.0 cli command "end"
endThis is a bit dirty but you can create an applet to run at startup that creates the event detection applet. Then at the end of the detection applet, have it remove itself from the running config. This means that the applet running at startup will always create the event detection applet but the event detection applet will only ever run once for that router boot period as it deletes itself after first run.
The problem is that when you want to have one applet create another applet, you have issues with the inverted commas being correctly configured for the second applet which will cause it to run once, but fail after that. The way you can get around this is to write the applet to a text file on the flash and then copy the contents of the text file to the running config at boot. This preserves the structure of the applet being created and ensures that it will function correctly.
The following example builds the event detection applet at system restart (BUILDAPPLET) by copying the file "eventapplet.txt" to running config. The event detection applet (EVENTDETECT) detects a syslog pattern, in this case exiting global config, and runs the applet sending a puts command and outputting HELLO. The event detection applet then removes itself from the running config.
!# configure the router
conf t
!# turn off file prompting to let the BUILDAPPLET run when copying
file prompt quiet
!# create the applet that runs at system restart and copies the flash applet to the running config
event manager applet BUILDAPPLET
event syslog pattern "%SYS-5-RESTART"
action 10 cli command "en"
action 11 cli command "copy flash:eventapplet.txt running-config"
!# exit
end
!######## Create the flash file containing your run once applet ########
! enter the tclsh so we can write our applet to a file - put your event detection applet in here between the {} that you want to run once
tclsh
puts [open "flash:eventapplet.txt" w+] {
event manager applet EVENTDETECT
event syslog pattern "%SYS-5-CONFIG_I"
action 1.0 puts "HELLO"
action 2.0 cli command "en"
action 3.0 cli command "conf t"

Disable PackageKit Update Applet
Dear all,
I have installed the latest version of oracle linux. The server is accessed by hundrends of students that do their lab exercises. However, I have a problem with the PackageKit Update Applet. Although I can go the System->Preferences->StartUp applications and disable it for my account, I do not know how to do it for all my users. The problem is that the Authentication dialog asking for the root password to update is continuously popping up while the user is logged in with the gnome environment. Is there a way to disable this feature for all accounts or to work around this issue?
Thank you,
NikosApparently PackageKit itself is a system activated daemon called packagekitd, which is managed by gpk-update-icon.
I seems you can disable it globally by setting System|Preferences|Software Updates to "never".
Another approach, which I have not tried though, might be following:
Disable the PackageKit update applet, using the Startup Applications.
This will create a file named "gpk-update-icon.desktop" containing "X-GNOME-Autostart-enabled=false".
Copy your "~/.config/autostart/gpk-update-icon.desktop" to the home directory of other users.
Or as a very last resort, to remove PackageKit from the system: sudo yum remove PackageKit.

Setting System|Preferences|Software only affects the current user logged in and does not disable auto-update system-wide. More info at: How to disable yum auto-update in OL6 -
Firefox freezes when clicking away during applet load
I have an applet that, upon startup, reads in a large amount of initial data. While this startup read usually only takes about 10 seconds, if a user clicks on a regular HTML link on the page during this initial loading of the java applet then Firefox will freeze.
I've tried adding some focus/component listeners to see if an event gets fired when the page is navigated away from and thus shut down all the data readers, but to no avail. I would assume that no such event occurs.
Is this just a Firefox bug or is there a workaround?
Many thanks

Is there a workaround?Can you not do micro-initialisation - launch another thread to do the donkey work for the next 10 seconds (or more) - but have all your listeners and stuff up and running, or will that not make a difference? -
ITunes Library stored on external hard drive
My iTunes Library is contained on an external hard drive which is in turn connected to an iMac, all of which connects to my airport network. I control the playback of the content on my Powerbook on the various airport express fed music systems in my apartment.
Is there anyway I can instruct the iTunes I use on my powerbook to always use this external drive? I currenly have to reset the library location each time I boot up (the Powerbook).
Also any music I download from iTunes store is saved to the hard drive on the powerbook (and then moved over to the hard drive manually). I'm looking for a way to sync the whole setup? I intend to change my airport extreme to the next generation and connect the hard drive to it so I'm guess this will help but is there a way around this break in the chain.
Also to keep both iTunes Library database files on both machines identical I currently copy from one to the other but this can at time cause problems in automatically recognising the location of a file, and then have to locate etc.
Any suggestion gratefully receieved.
Powerbook Mac OS X (10.4.1) iMac, Airport Extreme, Airport Express, LaCie Hard DriveI took a second look at my settings. I do find the Music Folder on the other drive set as the location. Possibly I forgot that I've changed that too.
So, maybe you could try to set this in the preferences with a little help help from the alias in the default home folder. :-D
I could suggest an AppleScript to automatically connect to your server by setting this script-applet as default startup in you user account settings.

set myUserName to "username" --enter your name here
set myPassword to "password" --enter your password here
set myServers to {¬

"afp://192.168.1.1/disk2", ¬
"afp://192.168.1.1/disk3"}
set myServerCount to the number of items of myServers
tell application "Finder"
repeat with i from 1 to myServerCount
set thisServer to item i of myServers
repeat 5 times --i repeat this a couple of time to prevent connection drop-out

mount volume thisServer as user name myUserName with password myPassword

Hi I have a simple question,
Is the startup screen of a Java Applet replacable by a custom image or somethimng like that?
I mean the screen you get when the Applet is busy loading. The one with the Java logo in the center with a 'gray-rotating' 18-pointed star behind it.
Kind regards,
KlaasAs part of the applet/object tag, no, I don't think you can.
You could use DHTML to place a different image over the loading applet, and have the applet call back to the webpage, informing it to remove the load image.
Or you can have the base loader very simple (just show image, and use a URLClassLoader to kick start the real applet).
i think you can already get premade versions of this off the net -
How to clear class cache upon applet startup?
Hi,
is there any HTML-tag to force the class loader cache being cleared upon applet startup?
When I have recompiled the applet code, I am forced to clear the cache in the java plugin console. Is there any way to automate this?
Thanx in advancei know what he's talking about, you have to restart the browser to get it to reload the class files. You may be able to set your browser cache to 1MB, but I think I did that and it didnt work, and I never found a solution. If you're trying to develop your application and you're testing it and this is becoming a problem, use appletviewer to test the applet. Once you have the finished product, make sure it works on IE and Netscape.

Howto improve applet startup (verification) time?
Hi there!
I wrote an mide-size applet which consits of about 400 classes (400kB shrinked) which works really fast and fine - after startup.
I already tested it on several JVMs, including Netscape-4.8, MSJVM-3167, Sun-1.5RC/1.4.2.
The problem I have is that there is a lot of time spent somewhere in the jvm and I dont know what I could do to improve startup-time.
The JVM starts up at normal speed, then downloads my applet via the local network, both takes not more than 10sec.
However after this procedure the applet-loading-screen (in 1.5) shows me that the applet has been fully loaded (red progress bar is full) and then the jvm does something which takes 2 minutes on my P266MMX/256MbRam.
The MSJVM needs for this task (same task) "only" about 1 minute whereas Netscape needs only 10secs to load and start the applet on this machine.
I know the P266MMX is quite old, however I have to test also against such old machines.
The problem I have is, that my application should be available soon after visiting the service. Plugin-loading-time is a pain (15secs!), however this is normal for this task.
But where are the 2mins spent, I think it could be the verification process but I am not sure. I know for sure that in this 2mins no code that I have written myself was ever executed...
Are there any ways to minimize this time (maybe tricks to help the verifier to be faster)?
Maybe the images are the cause I packed also into the jar-archive but why could images slow down the verification time? (about 60 1-2kB gifs).
Please help me to help to remove java's reputation to be slow!
Thanks a lot, lg ClemensI found out that most of this 2 minutes is spent loading classes - my code runs in background already till it comes to a place where it needs some till now not loaded classes.
Of course at startup class-loading happens very often, but why does it take so long, even when the applet is taken from applet_cache? (Java prints a message that the applet is taken from the applet_cache).
Any suggestions or ideas? Please help I really dont know what to do or why Netscape-4.6 is sooo much fast that java-1.5...

JButton text not displaing on applet startup
I'm having a problem with the text of a button not showing up when the applet starts up. It just has the button with the background and the text doesn't show up until you mouse over the button (not by design). It only happens on startup and it's not consistant. It seems to only happen in Internet Explorer, but not in Firefox. I'm using the java plugin Version 1.5.0 (build 1.5.0_02-b09) and internet explorer 6.0.2800.1106. Here's the java code for the button:
public class AdminViewApplet extends JApplet implements ActionListener {
private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L;
private static final String ADMIN_VIEW_URL = "/admin/view";
private static final String LOGIN_ID = "loginId";
private static final String TOKEN = "token";
private static final String EXCEPTION = "exception";
public void init() {
Color backgroundColor = new Color(204,204,204);
JButton adminViewButton = new JButton("Admin View");
adminViewButton.addActionListener(this);
adminViewButton.setFont(new Font("Helvetica", Font.PLAIN, 11));
adminViewButton.setMargin(new Insets(5, 5, 5, 5));
adminViewButton.setBackground(backgroundColor); adminViewButton.setBorder(BorderFactory.createEtchedBorder(EtchedBorder.LOWERED));
JPanel pane = new JPanel(new GridLayout(1,1,0,0));
pane.setBackground(backgroundColor);
pane.add(adminViewButton);
setContentPane(pane);
public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent event) { ... }
Here's the applet tag in the jsp:
<applet archive="admin-view-applet.jar" code="com.healthpartners.share.applet.AdminViewApplet" width="80" height="28">
<param name="effectiveAccountId" value="<%= accountData.getAccountId() %>"></param>
<param name="realAccountId" value="<%= HPEnvironmentFactory.getHPEnvironment().getAccount(request.getUserPrincipal()).getAccountId() %>"></param>
</applet>
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
TimTry compiling on 1.4.2. I've had to drop 1.5 as it was getting too buggy, when I was using different browsers and OSs.

How to run an applet(in a html file) in the server?
I am using the jpedal Viewer inmy code, I embedded the applet code
in a html file , it is running fine, but when I try to run the same Viewer applet in the Server it is throwing an error
"java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/jpedal/objects/acroforms/DefaultAcroRenderer

at pdfViewer.PdfApplet.init(PdfApplet.java:199)
at sun.applet.AppletPanel.run(Unknown Source)
at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)"
What is the problem ?
Please suggest solution for it?
Its urgentI am trying to run the Applet in Tomcat server,
Could you post the code where you invoke the Applet? It sounds like you're saying you're trying to run the Applet as part of your server-side code. The other interpretation is that you are simply accessing the Applet through the browser that happens to be on the machine being used as the server.
Like I say, post the code that shows how you're trying to use the Applet "on the server". -
How can I get my Windows Partition to be a startup disk?
I have Tiger 10.4.11, I had boot camp, Running Vista, Just fine for months.
I recently had a problem, within vista which caused a problem with the hard drive/master boot record which wouldn't allow Vista to boot anymore and actually reported "missing operating system".
Previously if I did nothing, after powering on my MacBook, it would default to the Windows partition and start it up (Vista).
Of course I could change this from the "startup disk" applet from within Tiger or I could use boot camp from within Vista.
I have since been able to fix my Vista related startup issue, however at present the MacBook is booting into Tiger by default.
I can HOLD the OPTION key and select either OS.
From the "startup disk" applet within Tiger, it no longer shows "Windows" as a startup option which seems to be an indicator of a problem with Tiger of how it sees the hard drive and/or partition.
I ran disk utility, no change.
How can I make Windows appear as an option in the "startup disk" applet within Tiger?
I can use Boot Camp within Vista, to select the "Windows" disk to restart from, and that works, but I would like to restore full functionality to Tiger.
Thank you and please advise,

the very first thing is the html console always look the one which you have posted here.it tells that server is started.
directory structure is also ok.
wi think the problem lies in the html file.After defining applet class you have to specify the jar file of your appletin the mannerarchive = "yourapplet.jar" have you any libraries with your applet? if yes then you have to include it in archive information
i would like to know when you run this application does internet explorer opens if yes then can you tell me the error it is giving -
