Applet is null - security exception in servlet

I have searched this forum and others in trying to resolve this issue with no luck. I just upgraded my servlet app to use the 9.0.1.4 JDBC drivers (by downloading the classes12.zip) from a previous version in Websphere Application Developer 5.1. I used the same connection string as in the older Oracle JDBC drivers (which worked) and keep getting the messages "Applet is null, cannot report" and "Exception: java.lang.SecurityException: not allowed to connect to server". I think the applet error is that the error handling in the JDBC drivers is trying to launch an applet, but I am not sure why I am getting the security error. Has anyone experienced this?

You may need to make changes in your JDK's java.policy file. It is expecting 'checkPermission with the PropertyPermission("*", "read,write") permission.'
Try by adding,
permission java.util.PropertyPermission "*", "read,write";
to your java.policy file.

  • Null pointer exception and servlet

    I cant figure out why i am getting a null pointer exception. this works if i keep my form output in the same class as my driving servlet. All i did was break off the html display to a new form and i get a null pointer exception.

    anyway to write the system.err to an html screen with
    a servlet?Why would you ask that? Surely you should have asked "Any way to write a stack trace to an HTML screen from a servlet?"
    And in fact there is. I am sure you have not yet looked up the Exception class and the versions of its printStackTrace() method. But when you do, you will see that there are printStackTrace(PrintStream) and printStackTrace(PrintWriter). And you know how to write HTML (or text in general) to the servlet response so that it shows up in the client's browser, right? I will let you figure out how to put those things together.

  • Self signed Applet - still getting Security Exception...

    Hi everyone...
    I m new to Java Mail... Nd I m developing a Applet to send mail from my Gmail account, nd I used keytool, jarsigner to Self sign the applet. Nd I wrote a Html page and when calling my applet method using javascript, I m having Security Exception... And I m using Java 1.5 (i.e., J2SE 5)
    Here is the sample of my code...
    --------- MyMail.java -----------
    import javax.mail.*;
    import javax.mail.internet.InternetAddress;
    import javax.mail.internet.MimeMessage;
    And all neccessory packages are imported....

         String username;
         String password;
         String fromAddres="";
         String toAddres="";
         Other Variable declaration goes here........
    Session ses;
    Transport tr;
    MimeMessage msg;
         public void init() //For testing purpose
              doLogin("username","password"); //My account details
         public void doLogin(String user,String pass)
              username = user;
              password = pass;
              boolean success;
              fromAddres = user+"@gmail.com";
              toAddres = "[email protected]";
              subject = "TEst SubJect";
              body = "This is Test Mail";
              success = doAuthentication();
              if(success)
                   setHeaders(server,username,password,fromAddres,toAddres,cc,bcc,htmlFormat,subject,body);
                   sendMail(ses);
                   doLogout();
         public void doLogout()
              //Deals with the logout from my account
         public boolean doAuthentication()
              //Deals with the authentication of my account
              // Setting properties, creating a session, getting transport object...
              //and returns true if authentication is success, false if not.
         public void setHeaders(String server, String username, String password, String fromAddress, String toAddress, String cc, String bcc, boolean htmlFormat, String subject, String body)
              //Sets the headers fields for the message (recieved through arguments)
         public void sendMail(Session ses)
              //Deals with sending mail
    class MyPasswordAuthenticator extends Authenticator
         //Deals with the authentication of my account
    ---------- MyMail.html -----------
    <html>
    <head>

    archive=mail.jar,activation.jar,mailplus.jar width=0 height=0>
    </applet>
    </body>
    </html>
    And the applet is Self signed using the tools supplied from Java SDK...
    it got signed...
    And as the applet got loaded when i opend the MyMail.html, as i called the doLogin(..,..) in init() it is sending mail successfully...
    The problem is.... As I given the action for my button to send mail (by calling java method from java script i.e., calling doLogin() when the button clicked) I m getting Security Exception
    So...anyone plz tell me the solution....

    DoPrivileged would solve your problem but I've seen some cases where the
    threaded (link mentioned below second post) mothod is the only way it'll work.

  • Security Exception in servlet

    The code is very simple, just copy from the javamail examples. It runs very well in a standalone application. But when I put it into the servlet, it throws a securityexception, the correspondent message is
    " access denied(java.util.PropertyPermission * read,write". It seems to be connected with a security authentification. But How can I remedy it?
    What I am using is J2ee 1.3.1 server.
    String host = "smtp.yahoo.ca";
    String from = "[email protected]";
    String to = "[email protected]";
    // Get system properties
    Properties props = System.getProperties();// this is the code that sent securityexception
    // Setup mail server
    props.put("mail.smtp.host", host);
    // Get session
    Session session = Session.getDefaultInstance(props, null);
    // Define message
    MimeMessage message = new MimeMessage(session);
    // Set the from address
    message.setFrom(new InternetAddress(from));
    // Set the to address
    message.addRecipient(Message.RecipientType.TO,
    new InternetAddress(to));
    // Set the subject
    message.setSubject("Hello JavaMail");

  • Signed applet throws security exceptions

    Since nobody seems to be reading the Signe Applet forum, I decided to try here:
    Hi all
    I have problems with signed applet (self-made cert), and after reading this forum I see this is more or less common.
    The problem that I am having is, that I can not use doPrivilege() and similar tricks, because applet needs to be Java 1.1 compatible.
    So, signing will have to work.
    Applet is signed using 1.5.0_06 jarsigner. Jarsigner verifies it OK.
    It works on JVM 1.5.0_06 but not on 1.4.2_08.
    Please help me make if work under any JVM.
    The error I get is:

    FATAL: java.lang.NullPointerException: nullWhat is funny, is that I have two applets, and one works and the other one doesn't. It is like this:
    Applet A (signed) needs to connect to host1, fails and tries to connect through proxy using my proxy library (also signed - different JAR). Everything works.
    Applet B (signed) needs to connect to host1, fails and tries to connect through proxy using the same proxy library. It gets a security exception.
    All JARs are signed using the same key/certificate.
    Both applets try to connect to the same "host1".
    Both applets try to use the same proxy - which is different from "host1".
    The one thing that might make a difference, is that in the working applet, everything is within one thread, and in the broken applet, the proxy object is in the main applet thread, and this applet may open many windows, that all utilize the same proxy object - only they can't.
    When I tried to move the proxy object down to the child threads, I get the following exception:
    Exception in thread "Thread-1952" java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.lang.RuntimePermission accessClassInPackage.sun.misc)

         at net.propero.rdp.applet.RdpThread.run(RdpApplet.java:211)It seems that I can only create the proxy object in the Applet.init() method, to avoid this exception.
    So to, summarize: I would prefer just one object for all threads that I will create, but then my applet behaves like it is not signed (at least under JVM 1.4.2_08). Java 1.5.0_06 doesn't have any problems with this.

    Continue fix for BLZ-262: null pointer exception on redeploy of web app/servlet.
    Remove finally block in servlet init() as the call to destroy() in the catch block will clear ThreadLocals
    if there is an error. Move it to the end of try block instead since the init() thread doesn't need any
    thread locals set.
    Log the startup error before calling destroy() in init() catch clause.

    Hello!
    I had a similar problem under WebLogic 6.1 SP4 after deploying a war-file with
    a bug.
    After deploying the corrected file, it seemed that the old version was deployed
    again.
    Perhaps this behaviour will help you to load the new application/ejb:
    - undeploy
    - remove from targets
    - move to targets
    - deploy

    so, i fix the code, rebuild the ear and redeployed, and the same error

    i am sure i did not do any mistakees because i have put some system.err

    it looks like wls is caching teh ejb, because whenever i redeploy it

  • Should a signed applet ever throw a security exception?

    hi,
    I've had a few times when a signed applet seems to throw a security exception (at the moment am trying to figure out a SocketException being thrown).
    I thought if the applet was signed, and when the browser asks if you want to grant it permissions you press Yes (which I do), then there should not be any security issues?
    thanks,
    asjf

    A signed applet has to assert which permissions it wants. The client JVM then asks the user if they will give those permissions to the signer. If the applet tries to do something for which it hasn't been granted permission a security exception is thrown.

  • Security Exception executing a signed Applet

    Dear All,
    I get a security exception (file permission ) when i try to execute a signed applet using java plugin version 1.4.2._02, the same applet works good in java plugin version 1.3.1_04.
    Any ideas...???
    Thanks in advance
    KSRK123

    Although not a solution for us as we are tied to the 1.2.2 plugin for now, we did try out 1.3.1_10 and it worked fine without any modifications to cacerts.
    Please see our listings (below) and let us know if anything comes to mind. I'm fairly new to this but I thought the whole idea with 1.2.2 was that we shouldn't have to mess with the cacerts or policy files on a clients machine. Rather the Root Certificate of the browser was used for verification??

  • JRC (upg. to CR4E) - Report w Subreport - Oracle DB -  Null Pointer Excepti

    Hi
    We have a Crystal Designer/Developer Version 11.5.10.1263. We develop reports using this.
    Most of the reports have SQL Command mode design with JNDI/JDBC connection. It gets deployed with our Web application. And during runtime, when users access these reports from our web application, we typically use Java Reporting Component with Crystal Report Viewer SDK to open and display the report to the user.
    Besides other issues, current problem I am having is:
    I have a sub-report in my report. I am connecting to Oracle database. If this sub-report does not return any rows, I was getting a Null Pointer Exception. This seems to be a known bug. This happened to us when we had just the above mentioned components.
    We recently upgraded just the JAR libraries to the ones packaged in CR4E (Crystal Reports For Eclipse) - initially to get more exporting capability.This upgrade gets us past the Null Pointer Exception issue.
    Now, I am getting an error like "Unexpected database connector error". Please see the exception stack trace below if needed. Since we are a product and this display is specific to one out of about 100 different clients; with all the time we spent on making this report stuff work against this oracle DB client, we had finally ended up creating the display in JSP into our general product just for one of about 100 clients. Client must be the Lucky one...As a developer, I felt really frustrated.
    One note:- SQL Server DB works perfect.
    Other thing - Do we need to change any API calls after upgrading the JARS from standard JRC/Viewer to CR4E package?

    I have exactly the same problem. Had posted it on the forum last week, but haven't received any response yet. I just file a single support case ($195) with SAP.  If I hear anything useful back, will keep you posted. Please let me know if you are able to resolve the problem.
    In my case, I can get my report to work with a single subreport.  When I put multiple subreports, I get the same error as you are currently getting.
    Check if your report has any special section formatting (conditional suppression etc).  Try to remove those to see if it helps at all.

    Hi,
    Here two possibility
    1. This  is the case when we get something as return form the BAPI/RFC and want to display in our message area but return message itself is null like this statement
    wdComponentAPI.getMessageManager().reportException(wdContext.nodeOutput_Salesorder_Create().currentOutput_Salesorder_CreateElement().getSalesdocument());
    2.And this is when
      try
                   executableClazz.execute();
                   nodeToinvalidate.invalidate();
              } catch (WDDynamicRFCExecuteException ree)
                   wdComponentAPI.getMessageManager().reportException(ree);
                             or
    wdComponentAPI.getMessageManager().reportException(ree.getMessage);
    3. Message Area is simple UI element which ensure only the place where we have to so the message
    So Check your code again it might solve your problem
    Best Regards

  • Null pointer exception in native code

    Hi
    We are running JRockit 1.4.2 and we are having a lot of crashes recently. All of them have this error
    Error Message: Null pointer exception in native code
    Signal info : si_signo=11, si_code=1
    but the location of the crash differs. Our last one occured in java.util.Hashmap.get(). Another common element is that they appear to occur after deserialisation.
    Has anyone else had similar problems?
    Any help much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dave

  • Null Pointer Exception in SessionData removeAttribute

    Hi,
    I am getting a null pointer exception while calling removeAttribute on the HttpSession. This happens pretty consistently (it does not give a null pointer some times).
    All we are doing is removing a Struts Action Form from the session as it is a large one after going thru a wizard app. It has been frustrating as we have been facing this issue since 10 days and we have no clue what to do. The value objects with in the form are all serializable.
    The stack trace is pasted below.
    Any help will be greatly appreciated.
