Applet thread problem

Hi,
I have an applet. That connecting to server by using ULRconnection. This applet has two thread that connect two server at different times. One off them send message to server periodicly (this message contains that Applet is open and working). My problem is :
if I go another page then turn back at same browser , my browser is frozen . I cant make anything. Whats the problem ? Have you any idea ?

Note that fetch and execute are observed classes and my applet class
is the observer.
The problem is that during the execution of fetch() and execute(),
inside these methods change some things and so they call notifyObservers(Object arg)
passing to the applet the argument and so the applet updates some text components.
But as you can immagine there is no time for the gui to update himself so i see nothing.
So, my question is which of the methods need to be in a separate thread so to ensure
visible results(component updating)?
Perhaps,the update method needs to be invokedLater with SwingUtilities?
Please give me an example code if possible.

One way could be to put the content of the action performed method into a new thread, then use invokeLater in your Observers that cause GUI updates:

Well,let me describe the new problem.
Here you cant see the method execute().
The problem is a synchronization problem.
Actually,what the two methods do is:fetch() updates the value of a long called instruction and execute() takes this value and do some things.Note also that the time the execute method needs to finish is not
always the same.By that, i mean that it depends on the value of the instruction updated by fetch().
By putting some System.outs before and after updating i realized that there are delays or sometimes
i noticed that fetch() executes 2 times before execute() takes control.
So,i created some synchronized private methods set and get to control access to these resources.
Better but still not correct...
What should i look?Where stays the answer?
How to synchronize these two methods on these resources?

I think that your fetch and execute has a "Producer-Consumer Relationship"
in such cases you can make the producer place the produced value in to a queue and consumer take the vlues from the queue
In the producer thread it sleeps for a while and try again if the Queue is full
In the Consumer thread it sleeps for a while if the Queue is empty and then try again
Or you can do as follows
In the Producer thread it waite() if the Queue is full
In the Consumer thread it waite() if the queue is empty
When ever Producer put a value in to the Queue it calls the notify on Consumer and when ever Consumer takes a value from Queue it calls the notify() on Producer
you can even use notify all
I think thiere is no built in Queue class in java so you will have to write one here is a example

Java 1.5_13 applet loading problem due to 'activate control' fix

I updated my JRE to Java 1.5 revision 13, and it seems to introduce a new problem. In order to fix the "click here to activate this control" problem in internet explorer, I iterate the document model and set the outerHTML of the applet tag to the same outerHTML. This removes the annoying rectangle in IE. This also causes the applet to load and break down the first time the page is displayed, because IE removes the old applet instance and creates a new one when replacing the outerHTML. When this happens on the new Java JRE release, an exception is thrown to the user saying:

Does anyone know how to fix this new issue? Or does anyone know of a better way to solve the 'activate control' problem in IE that does not cause the reloading of this applet?

If you are using struts2 or your applet is inside a internal frame, is possible that the above solution will not work.
So, the solution that i found was place the applet code in the main page, with width and heigh iguals "*0*" and style="float: left;" to hide the applet.
This way, the applet will be load before you call the right page.

Applet Flash problem

I have an applet and a flash in two frames in a HTML page. The applet and the falsh app communicate through the Javascript code with in the HTML pages. The flash app does not work as it is supposed to when the applet is present in the Parent HTML page. When I removed the applet, the flash app seems to work ok. But the applcation that I am working needs both of them together. Plz suggest me a solution if you know of any flash and applet related problems.

Sun Java System Web Server 6.1 SP3 service-j2ee threads problem

I'm an intermediate Java programmer and a newbie in
the Sun's web servers world.
I'm doing an evaluation of an web applicaction
written in Java Servlets that is
supposed to have a leaking threads problem. We use
SunOS 5.9 (... sun4u sparc SUNW,UltraAX-i2) and
JVM 1.5 Update 4 (the problem is presented too
in SunOS 5.8 and JVM 1.4.2_04).
We have seen, thanks to 'prstat' (PROCESS/NLWP) a
increasing thread's growing in one of the process
that correspond to our web server instance (I'm sure I'm
looking the right process). I have checkout the source
code and it seems like the app doesn't have threads
problems. I have used the Netbeans Profiler and I see a
high number of threads called service-j2ee-x that grows
in congestion moments and never disappear.
Anybody could help me with suggestions?

Thankyou, yes I am unfamiliar with debugging Java apps. I got the web server Java stack trace and I have passed this on to the developer.
The web server finally closes the socket connection after the total connections queued exceeds 4096.
There are several hundred entries like this... waiting for monitor entry.. could be a deadlock somewhere?

JNI & thread problem

Folks,
I am using JNI to access WIA (Windows Image Acquisition) functionality under MS Windows XP. WIA consists of a bunch of COM interfaces. I have several native functions in a single dll, with a limited number of static variables stored in the dll between calls. This all works fine as long as long as the calls occur from the same java thread, but not if a new thread is created for some of the calls. I.e., this works:

Here, initializeWIA() and transferJPGNative() are the native methods. What happens in the second case is that transferJPGNative fails in one of the COM methods (not the first COM method it calls). The COM method returns an HRESULT indicating an error (509) which I can't find using any of the usual MS error look-up mechanisms. (Admittedly I am not the world's greatest Windows programmer...)
Anyway, any suggestions would be much appreciated. I have found some issues regarding JNI and threads in this forum's archives, but none of them seem to apply to quite this situation.

As a guess this is just a windows threading problem.
And with COM you have to do things differently (I believe) if there is more than one thread. You might not even be allowed to do it with for that particular API.
It could also be that you are initializing things more than once. Or you need to initialize twice (two handles.)
At any rate you could always fix it by making the java code only allow calls for a single thread.

Thread problem in swings

I have made an application in swings i have stored the class files in a system and call that class files by a batfile shortcut in two diff. pcs .and i am tring to get an value of a Jtextarea in an event When I tried to run this application at the same time from 2 diff PCS,with diff string input in text area It is giving me the same vlaue.

Applet socket problem in client-server, urgent!

I have implemented a client server teamwork environment. I have managered to get the server running fine. The server is responsible for passing messages between clients and accessing Oracle database using JDBC. The client is a Java Applet. The code is like the following. The problem is when I try to register the client, the socket connection get java.security.AccessControlException: access denied(java.net.SocketPermission mugca.its.monash.edu.

Thanks for the help. But I don't have to configure the security policy. Instead, inspired by a message in this forum, I simply upload the applet to the HTTP server (mugca.its.monash.edu.au) where my won server is running. Then the applet is download from the server and running fine in my local machine.

Are you using JSWDK 1.0.1? If you are, then the implementation uses the Servlet Spec. 2.1. The set/getAttribute methods were added in 2.2.
Try using the now-deprecated method putValue like this in SaveName.jsp.

Thread problems with Samsung D500? Http or https troubles?

I've got some troubles with my application installed onto my D500, and I suspect that's maybe thread problem.
Does anyone know something about thread problems for this phone?
I want to know, is there any trouble for connecting application by using http or https?
I've found one problem for E720 - it escapes "backslash" character when it's used as http parameter.
It makes parsing troubles...
Did anyone have some similer troubles, and how have you solved this problem?

When I'm trying to connect to the net by using my application, I get two errors: "TCP open" and "interruptedIOException", and so I suspect that's some kind of thread problems.
On the other phones (Nokia, Sony Ericsson) this application works with no problems...

I have a PC running Iternet Explorer 6.0 running under Windows XP. I have developed an applet using JDK 1.3 which is running fine with applet viewer , but it is not running in ie. I have installed Netscape navigator and Opera 5. the applet is running fine in both of these browsers but somehow it is not running in IE.
Later on I upgraded my JDK to 1.4. It also displays use Java2 (V1.4.1) for <applet> (requires restart) tck marked in Advance section under Tools-Options menu of IE.
I have also tried and set various options in my Control Panel�s Java Plug-in but all in vain. I have searched the sites for this solution but no one answers specifically.
I know it�s a small problem due to discarded JVM in IE under Windows XP but give me solution for that.

I'm trying to use the method Response.sendRedirect to forward users to another website. The actual case is irrelevant so I've extracted the important part into a simple servlet example:

Go get tomcat ...I used to get this error lot's when I used the jswdk. There are just some things it doesn't like ...yet when structured in certain way's ...it would work. I never did track down any consistent explanation. I just moved on to tomcat. The jswdk is really cheesy ...it can't do post ...or sessions ...or any 2.0 functionality ... or ... or ... Go get tomcat.

Some two threaded image prepare and painting applet coordination problem

i'm sure this multithreaded gui is complex but anyway. a simple producer&consumer type applet. there is one seperate thread preparing an offscreen image, and the main guy draws it on applet. i can not coordinate them, what's wrong i don't know. simply, applet starts a thread, which paints something on an offscreen image, and then tells to applet repaint(). anyway, here is the code, this small png files are a lot, idea is making a view on them, just imagine a big big png file divided into matrices. afterall this is not the important part. what i see on the screen is, if you ask, nothing.

Hi.
The Graphics.drawImage method is asynchronyous, that may be the reason of the problem. Set an ImageObserver parameter in drawImage method, when drawing on an offscreen image. Count finished images and when all are done
draw the big image on the screen.
Alternatively you can call Toolkit.prepareImage method in a loop, after loadimages and wait until all images are loaded(true returned).

Applet - Thread - Vector problem.

Hi! I've an applet that loads some files in a Vector. Every time that I load the applet, I assign a random generated number to name the files in the vector. For example:
random = 7.1923E928
so the files will be
7.1923E928-1.txt
7.1923E928-2.txt
The method that creates the files and loads its routes in a vector, is a threaded method.
Then, I save all the files into a zip file. This is done perfectly the first time that I load the applet. When I load for a second time the applet, a new random number is generated ok, and the files are created with it. But, when I try to make the zip file, the vector has the past files, I mean, the vector has the routes of the previous applet. I don't know what is going on, don't know if maybe is some trouble with the Thread. Maybe it never finishes ... don't know.
I have other Threads in the applet (around 5 threads) for thoing other things, I belive they do not affect, but post it here just in case.

That's what first line support is for to get info out of "dumb" users who don't know better.
I suggested some code changes but you haven't re posted any code.
You think it might be the applet but I don't see any exception nor a trace from the applet.
To turn the full trace on (windows) you can start the java console, to be found here:
C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4...\bin\jpicpl32.exe
In the advanced tab you can fill in something for runtime parameters fill in this:
-Djavaplugin.trace=true -Djavaplugin.trace.option=basic|net|security|ext|liveconnect
if you cannot start the java console check here:
C:\Documents and Settings\userName\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\deployment.properties
I think for linux this is somewhere in youruserdir/java (hidden directory)

Need help with applet related problems

First of all hello to everyone. I'm new to this forum. I usually can solve my problems google-ing around, but this time I just ran out of ideas.
I'm trying to develop a jni applet that can run native code for performance. I used netbeans so far and the applet works great when run from within the ide. At some point a managed to make the applet run inside firefox and iexplore, however somehow i screwed something up and now i can't make it run anymore. I don't really know what i did but i think it may be related to these lines in the console since everything up until awt works fine in the applet:

I am sorry for bold, i came here to ask for help. I used bold to differentiate output from my questions since i couldn't find tags.
I already validated jnlp using JaNeLA and got only optimization suggestions.
As I said in first post, this works for a friend of mine, so it's possible a local issue with my java or something ...
Also i reinstalled jre/jdk 7.0, then uninstalled and installed latest jre/jdk 6.
Hope I didn't leave a bad impression, i just want help.
