AppletStub - How do I Display an Applet in JFrame

I've been researching on this and got some useful info about what I need like the AppletStub... What I am trying to do is make a JFrame with an Applet inside of it. Also, don't know if this is possible but I would like to run the applet from a remote url... This program will be run locally on the computer while the applet is on the server but the JFrame should simulate or like act as if it is being run from a URL on the server. I've heard from different pages on google that I will need an AppletStub for this? Am i correct or no? Also, I learn best by seeing it done aka examples so if you guys could please give me an example of a simple program viewing an applet inside it and the applet being from a URL on the internet that would be great.
Also, just for future reference later I want to be able to communicate with variables and functions within the applet from the JFrame, will that be like using an object or do I need to do something else to get that functionality?
Thank you so much if you can help me:)

don't know if this is possible Not really.
I would like to run the applet from a remote urlAlso a problem, applets are designed to run in the local computer's browser.
Also, I learn best by seeing it done aka examples so if you guys could please give me an example of a simple program viewing an applet inside it and the applet being from a URL on the internet that would be great.In other word, you want someone to write the program for you? Sorry.
Back up a few steps and consider what you are trying to do. Java does not run programs on one computer from another. You might want to create a standard "run-from-the-commandline" java program that creates a GUI using a JFrame, then using a program like PCAnyWhere to execute it.

    I can't get my beautifull new applet displayed in IE.
    I just get a grey box instead of my applet...
    Can someone send me the correct code for displaying an applet under IE ???
    Thanks in advance,
    Menno.

    You need the following code between <body></body> tag:The applet tag wont help unless the OP has NN 6.0 or better. The OP will need the OBJECT tag when using IE and EMBED tag when using NN -- evidently he has a JApplet that will need the java plug-in so that it can run. Conversion from a HTML file having the APPLET-tag is done must then be done with the HTMLConverter.
    If it is in "/java/my_applet" then in the CODE
    attribute you type "/java/my_applet.class" No; the value of the code attribute must be the fully qualified class name. If the applet class file is in "/java/my_applet" and the applet's class name is "my_applet", the value of the code attribute must be "my_applet". The value of the codebase attribute must be "/java/my_applet".

  • How to tell embedded jinitator applet is still running when window closed

    Hello, we are trying to accomplish the same thing that is mentioned in this post from Metalink. I've searched for a solution and hope someone here can help. Instead of restating the issue I think David Wilson does a good job of explaining what is needed. Can anyone please suggest a possible solution?

    How to tell embedded jinitator applet is still running when window closed
    Hi,
    We run an oracle 10g forms application through 9iAS over an intranet. All users are running windows 2000 professional.
    We run separate frame = true but I would like to switch to separate frame = false
    With separate frame = true if the user clicks the outer windows "X" close button (forms mdi window) the user is prompted to save changes before the application ends.
    BUT
    when using separate frame = false
    If the user clicks the upper window "X" button (no longer form mdi window but regular browser window) the window and application is abruptly closed.
    I'm interested in using a onbeforeunload function to confirm if the user wants to close the window. This would be placed in the basejini.htm file. This could always ask if the user wants to exit or not. If they click OK then the window closes but if they click "Cancel" you are returned to the forms application exactly where you left. something like event.returnvalue="do you really want to exit?";
    However if the user exited using the normal exit form method then the applet is already closed before the onbeforeunoad event fires and there is nothing to go back to and I want the window to close automatically. This is accomplished using close.html file in post forms trigger.
    So what I want and what I think many may also want is the check if the embedded applet is still running and if so prompt the user to return to the application or continue to close. Of course If the applet is no longer running then just close because there is no reason confirm closing anymore.
    Does anyone have a html/JavaScript solution that can be placed in the jinitiator.htm file? or similar?
    Thank you

    I don't know if this is exactly what you are after but you can add the following to the top of your basejini.htm file and it should prompt the user before exiting the IE window.
    <BODY %HTMLbodyAttrs%>
    %HTMLbeforeForm%
    <SCRIPT>
    <!--
    window.onbeforeunload = unloadApplet;
    function unloadApplet(){
    message = "Warning! Please exit the Java Applet prior to
    exiting the browser"
    return message;
    //-->
    </SCRIPT>

    Well I could not understand your complete requirement.
    Refer to Note.201481.1 How to Close the Browser Window When Closing Forms And How to Simulate SeparateFrame By Javascript

    Kind Regards,

    Subject: Re : How to tell embedded jinitator applet is still running when window closed
    Thank you for your reply and yes you did not understand my question fully.
    Sorry if this is a long reply
    I am able to close the browser window using information in notes 115905.1 and 201481.1, this is not the issue. We implemented this several years ago. It is workable for both separate frame = true or false.
    It is most important to not allow the user to end their forms application by closing the windows browser, they must close using normal form exit commands.
    What I want is to have separate frame = false, the big drawback to this option is the user can exit the application and bypass all forms code by pressing the windows "X" close button. This is why we need the code as just provided by Andrew Lenton above in this thread.
    BUT Andrew's code will always prompt the user before closing the window and I do not want that. I want the user to be prompted only under scenario 2 listed below.
    Here's the 2 case scenario for exiting the application.
    1. If the user closes properly and uses exit form which fires all normal form triggers including post_form with it's call to close.html file.
    All uncommitted changes are saved or rollback and the users session is ended normally both on the database and in the application server.
    All browser windows will close, great all is good. And without Andrew's code the window will close but with Andrew's code the user will be prompted to close or not, if they select Cancel the window will remain but the applet has already ended so why prompt? ...This is what I want to avoid.
    2. In the forms app. if the user clicks the windows "X" close button with uncommitted changes. The browser just closes the changes are rollback without prompting the user to save. The users sessions are now lost and still running in the database and application server until they are timed out.
    If I use Andrew's code then the user will be prompted to continue to close or go back, if they click Cancel to go back then focus returns to the forms application and the user can continue to work. If the user clicks OK then the window closes and unfortunately their sessions are still lost until timed out.
    So what I desire is to add to Andrew's code to check if the embedded applet is still running and prompt the user to close or not accordingly.
    Something like:
    Basejini.htm like
    </HEAD>
    <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">
    function maximizeWindow()
    window.moveTo(0,0);
    window.resizeTo(screen.availWidth,screen.availHeight);
    function confirm(){
    If(document.embeddedapplet.closed())
    Win.opener = self;
    win.close();
    Else if
    event.returnValue = "Closing Forms Application. OK to continue?";
    </SCRIPT>
    <BODY %HTMLbodyAttrs%, onload="maximizeWindow()", onbeforeunload="confirm()">
    %HTMLbeforeForm%
    I hope this explains my requirements.

    I'm sorry this is not helpful at all.
    Note 199928.1 is only an alert which does not stop the closing of the window and still displays as an alert if the user does close properly using exit form ... so why would you want to display the alert then?
    This is exaclty what I do not want and why I want to determine if the applet is still running before displaying any kind of message.

    Subject: Re : How to tell embedded jinitator applet is still running when window closed
    Closing thread.
    Thanks,

    Hello,
    I had the same issue last year - wanting to provide a warning on closing the browser, but only if the Forms session is still running. The approach I took is described below, see also the thread where I originally posted this at Closing brower window
    Hi there,I've had a similar requirement - or rather, the two conflicting requirements: to warn when the browser is being closed, but for the app to be able to close the browser without a warning being fired.
    To always provide a warning when someone (the user or the Forms app) tries to go to a different page (e.g. your close.htm), use Javascript like:
    function confirmExit(){
    if(appletRunning==true) {
    msg="Closing this window or navigating to another page will end your SomeGreatApp session.";
    window.event.returnValue=msg;
    And make a call to confirmExit() in the onBeforeUnload event of your main page.
    You'll notice I first check an 'appletRunning' variable before displaying the warning. This Javascript variable is set to true by my app when it starts up, using an embedded Javabean that calls out to Javascript. Once that variable is set to true, then the warning will be displayed if the user tries to shut the browser by clicking on the 'x' button, or to go to a different URL.
    When my app is shutting down, it uses the same Javabean to set appletRunning back to false. It then navigates to a close.htm - which will be done without a warning being displayed.
    See Re: How can a Javabean call Javascript function of the basejpi.html?? for example code on how to call Javascript from a bean embedded in your Forms app.
    Hope these ideas help you out, it's worked for me (so far, anyway!!)

  • Simple introduction/tutorial on how to make Cocoa-Applescript Applets?

    I'm looking for a simple tutorial on how to make Cocoa-Applescript Applets.  I'm pretty new to Applescript, but fairly good at it, and I was wondering how Cocoa-Applescript Applets worked.  I was curious as I've been wondering if it was possible to somehow display images in Applescript, and it apparently is the only/easiest way.  My problem is that I haven't been able to find any tutorials on using it, so I was wondering if you guys could point me in the right direction, that'd be great!
    thanks in advance

    The main difference is with how the Cocoa APIs are used - in addition to the AppleScript and AppleScriptObjC release notes, there are some examples and resources at Mac OS X Automation.  Note that in Yosemite, AppleScriptObjC is available to all scripts, not just applets and libraries.

  • Dont ask why! How do I call an applet that is in a jar file that is...

    Can someone tell me how I would call an applet that is inside of a jar file that is inside of a parent jar file?
    example call to an Applet
    <APPLET CODE="TimeApplet" ARCHIVE="time.jar" />what I want to do is something like
    <APPLET CODE="TimeApplet" ARCHIVE="parent.time.jar" />
    where parent is the top jar and time is the inner jar.any help or links to tutorials/articles would be most appreciated.
    if you ask why I wont answer.

    we are doing a signed applet and we only want the user to have to sign 1 time
    and we have lots of applets to display so we dont want to have them sign for
    each item.Sorry but that doesn't make much sense, niether does putting a jar file in a jar file.
    Do you want the "do you trust" question only one time? If so than you only have
    to sign all the jar files with the same key.
    You can load a jar file from your applet but it seems that these jar files will run
    in sanbox security no matter how you sign it:
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3582952
    Asking why does make sense, I coud be asking how to climb a building without
    telling my objective is to get on the 10th floor.
    You would tell me how to climb the building an I'd probably do it and find out
    later I could just as well have taken the elivator.

  • AHEEEE! How do I post my Applet at my website?

    AHEEEE! How do I post my Applet at my website?
    This is my first attempt at making an applet working from my web page..
    I got a simple Applet posted at one of my websites about a week ago. It just draws a button.
    I asked a friend of mine to see it and the following is her response:
    The program doesn't work at all for me . . . I get a gray square area displayed and on the bottom - browser message line get the error - load:class [sheep] not found. apparently it works for you cause you've got the java class defined on your pc, but for others viewing the page - nada. you need to find a way for the class to become viable/active on remote computers.
    This is the html file which I thought would load the required class file and start the applet:
    <HTML>
    <HEAD>
    <TITLE>Applet HTML Page</TITLE>
    </HEAD>
    <BODY>
    <H3><HR WIDTH="100%">Applet HTML Page<HR WIDTH="100%"></H3>
    <P>
    <APPLET code="Sheep.class" width=350 height=200></APPLET>
    </P>
    <HR WIDTH="100%"><FONT SIZE=-1><I>Generated by NetBeans IDE</I></FONT>
    </BODY>
    </HTML>
    I have "Sheep.class" file in the same directory at the same level as "Sheep.html" file.
    They are at:
    http://www.geocities.com/jule_davenport/Sheep.html
    http://www.geocities.com/jule_davenport/Sheep.class
    What's happening (OR not happening)? How can I correct the problem?
    Can somebody check the page at the first link?
    Thanks.

    I'm totally confused now. :D
    I uploaded a few applet starting on February 5 and had assumed they were all viewable because on my computer I could see them off my site. Then this morning I got an email from a friend of mine who said the following:
    "The program doesn't work at all for me . . . I get a gray square area displayed and on the bottom - browser message line get the error - load:class [sheep] not found. apparently it works for you cause you've got the java class defined on your pc, but for others viewing the page - nada. you need to find a way for the class to become viable/active on remote computers."
    Since I've noticed that sometimes browsers (IE 6.0) seemed to have gotten class files off my computer's cache instead of actually downloading from my site, I immediately assumed my applets have never been available online.
    That wahy I posted questions here.
    Then John reported that he noticed problems with my applet too:
    The applet is trying to do something that is not
    secure, so the client runtime is automatically
    terminating it.
    If it helps, your applet is generating a
    java.lang.RuntimeException of type
    java.net.SocketPermission from attempting to resolve
    some www address.At least two people can't view my applet. At that point, I assumed my applets wer non-functional.
    And for some mysterious reason, IE stopped working, so I started using AOL's version nine browser and tested my applets online. They didn't work.
    But you know what? They had been working with my IE 6.0 always. At least so it seemed. (What I'm not sure is whether they seem to have worked on my computer because IE on my computer was getting class files from my computer's cache (or hard disk?).
    Maybe I need to rest a little. I'm confused.

  • How can I display XSLT transformer errors on a web page ?

    Hi,
    I have some JSP pages that access DB, create an XML based on DB data and then transform it into HTML through an XSLT stylesheet. Developing the XSL code it's easy to make mistakes and generate errors on trasformation, but what I receive on the web page is only a "Could not compile stylesheet" TransformerConfigurationException, while the real cause of the error is displayed only on tomcat logs. This is the code for transformation:
    static public void applyXSLT(Document docXML, InputStream isXSL, PrintWriter pw) throws TransformerException, Exception {
            // instantiate the TransformerFactory.
            TransformerFactory tFactory = TransformerFactory.newInstance();
            // creates an error listener
            XslErrorListener xel = new XslErrorListener();
            // sets the error listener for the factory
            tFactory.setErrorListener(xel);
            // generate the transformer
            Transformer transformer = tFactory.newTransformer(new SAXSource(new InputSource(isXSL)));
            // transforms the XML Source and sends the output to the HTTP response
            transformer.transform(new DOMSource(docXML), new StreamResult(pw));
    }If an exception is thrown during the execution of this code, its error message is displayed on the web page.
    This is the listener class:
    public class XslErrorListener implements ErrorListener {
        public XslErrorListener() {
        public void warning(TransformerException ex) {
            // logs on error log
            System.err.println("\n\nWarning on XEL: " + ex.getMessage());
        public void error(TransformerException ex) throws TransformerException {
            // logs on error log
            System.err.println("\n\nError on XEL: " + ex.getMessage());
            // and throws it
            throw ex;
        public void fatalError(TransformerException ex) throws TransformerException {
            // logs on error log
            System.err.println("\n\nFatal Error on XEL: " + ex.getMessage());
            // and throws it
            throw ex;
    }When I have an error in the XSL stylesheet (for examples a missing closing tag), I can find on tomcat logs the real cause of the error:
    [Fatal Error] :59:10: The element type "table" must be terminated by the matching end-tag "</table>".
    Error on XEL: The element type "table" must be terminated by the matching end-tag "</table>".but on my web page is reported just the TransformerConfigurationException message that is:
    "Could not compile stylesheet".
    How can I display the real cause of the error directly on the web page?
    Thanks,
    Andrea

    This code is part of a bigger project that let developers edit XSL stylesheets through a file upload on the system and we can't impose the use of any tool for checking the xsl. So, I need to display the transformer error on the web page.I see. This code is part of an editorial/developmental tool for developers to create and edit XSL stylesheets.
    As part of the editorial process, XSL errors during editing can be considered a normal condition. In other words, it is normal to expect that the developers will generate XSL errors as they are developing stylesheets.
    In this light, handling the XSL transformation errors is a business requirement that you need to handle. Using the Java Exceptions mechanisms, e.g. try / catch are inappropriate to handle business requirements, in my opinion.
    I suggest that you look at how you handle the occurence of XSL errors differently than what you currently have. You need to:
    (1) capture the Transformation exception on the server;
    (2) extract the message from the exception and put it into a message that can be easily understood by the user;
    The current error message that you have going to the web browser is not useful.
    And you should not have the Transformation exception sent to the web browser either.
    What you are attempting to do with the exception is not appropriate.
    Handle the Transformation exception on the Business tier and use it to create a useful message that is then sent to the Presentation tier. In other words, do not send Java exceptions to web browser.

  • How can I display True/False in my dropdownlist as "Yes" and "No"?

    Hi All,
    I want to bind a dropdownlist to a boolean value (so it's either true or false).  I'm particularly interested in using two-way binding to when the user changes from "yes" to "no" the boolean value automatically changes from "true" to "false."  But, I want the user to see "yes" and "no" as the options, rather than "true" and "false".
    How can I display "yes" and "no" and still take advantage of binding?  Or can I not use binding in this circumstance?
      -Josh

    Solution 1:
    In order to display Yes/No for True/False, you may specify labelFunction for the dropdownList.
    In MXML:
    <s:DropDownList labelFunction="myLabelFunction" />
    In actionscript:
    private var arr:ArrayCollection = new ArrayCollection(["true","false"]);
                private function mylabelFunction(item:Object):String
                    if(item.toString() == "true")
                        return "yes";
                    else return "No";
    OR
    Solution2:
    may be u can try making an array collection like
    private var arr:ArrayCollection = new ArrayCollection([{label:"yes",value:"true"},{label:"no",value:"false"}]);
    and specify labelField for the dropdownList like
    <s:DropDownList labelField="label" dataProvider="{arr}" />

    I have companies in my CRM. I have a customers/contacts in the CRM I have tied as a relationship with each companies. How can I display all the records/contacts associated with a company? I have a already created a secure zone, so the company user would have logged in. Is this possible? If not, any workaround?
    The only workaround I thought of is to use webapp to import the company data and create another web app containing the employees data. Then link both tables/webapp using datasource. But the way the client's data is structured could create a lot of problems going forward.
    Any suggestion, help will be appreciated

    The relationship feature and how companies work currently in BC is really limited. It is an association and not true relationships at the moment. You cant output a company and show all its relationships at the moment.

  • How can I display & split the audio & video from the same digitized clip?

    I digitized a scene into iMovie that I edited on a professional system which I don't have access to anymore. The whole scene is 1 clip. Now I see a few tweaks that I want to make, so I was hoping to do them in iMovie.
    I want to "pull up" the audio in one section - meaning I want to take cut about 20 frames of audio from the end of a shot, and then move all the other audio up to fill the hole. To compensate for the missing 20 frames, I'll cut video off the head of the next shot. Some call this prelapping. Some call it an L-cut. Some call it asymmetrical trimming. Either way, I can't figure out how to do it in iMovie.
    My clip appears in the timeline as one track - a single track that contains the video and 2 audio tracks. How can I display the audio that's tied to the video on its own track? Then I think I could split audio & video wherever I wanted and trim things up - but I can't figure out how to do it.
    Am I asking too much of this software?
    BTW, I never see the option to "Split audio clip at playhead". I'm not displaying clip volume or waveforms. Choosing to display waveforms doesn't show me anything. Maybe iMovie thinks I'd only want to see waveforms of audio that isn't tied to my video-and-audio clips?
    Thanks in advance for any help...

    Jordon,
    "Am I asking too much of this software?"
    No, you're not.
    You first want to select your clip(s) and choose Advanced>Extract Audio.
    This will copy the audio from the video clip and place it on one of the two separate audio tracks while lowering the audio level to zero in the original video track.
    You can now edit and move the audio independently of the video.
    With the audio clip selected, you'll find you now have access to Edit>Split Selected Audio Clip at Playhead.

    via request.setAttribute().
    I then forward to a jsp page that looks like this:
         <html>
         <head>
         <title>Learn Fast or Perish</title>
         </head>
         <body>
         <center>
         <hr>
         </center>
         <h1>Hello World.</h1>
         <jsp:include page="/display" flush="true"/>
         </body>
         </html>.../display maps to another servlet. The doGet portion of the servlet looks like this:
                //response and request are the HTTPServletResponse/Request doGet parameters
                //ImageByteInformation is my bean holding image info in byte [] format
                ImageByteInformation imageByteInfo = (ImageByteInformation) request.getAttribute("imageByteInformation");
                ImageIcon imageIcon = new ImageIcon(imageByteInfo.getByteData());
                Image image = imageIcon.getImage();
                //create a BufferedImage from the image
                BufferedImage bufferedImage = new BufferedImageCreator().createBufferedImage(image);
                System.out.println("BufferedImage length: " + bufferedImage.getHeight() + "BufferedImage width: " + bufferedImage.getWidth());//400 by 600
                System.out.println("BufferedImage string: " + bufferedImage.toString());
                //prints out: BufferedImage@93afae: type = 2 DirectColorModel: rmask=ff0000 gmask=ff00 bmask=ff amask=ff000000 IntegerInterleavedRaster: width=600 yada yada
                response.setContentType("/image/gif");
                OutputStream stream = response.getOutputStream();
                ImageIO.write(bufferedImage, "gif", stream);
                stream.close();... i found the code above on line and this is supposed to display a GIF to a web page.
    For a while the code was actually prompting if I wanted to download a file of type "/image/gif"?!?
    I did download and save it as temp.gif and the image was there when I opened it on my desktop.
    Something is in the byte array but I cannot get it to display on the page. So what am I doing wrong.
    So my question is this...
    How can I display the gif info stored as a byte [] (byte array) in a bean with a jsp page. I thought including a servlet that
    writes the bytes to the reponse would but no such luck. Is what I am trying possible? This newbie would greatly appreciate
    any advice :)

    First of all the following line is a little off:
    response.setContentType("/image/gif");should be
    response.setContentType("image/gif");What you should do is rather than do an include, try something like the following:
    <img src="/display" />If you're telling me that /display is mapped to the servlet that has the doGet you reference, this would be the proper way to do it.
    HTH.
