Application file system deleted R12.1.3

Hi,
In one of our development R12.1.3 instance(db 11.2.0.3) application file system got deleted accidentally. Please help us in getting the EBS instance up.
1. We have a backup taken on 27th Oct.(Both database and application )
2. We applied 8/10 patches during this period and couple of rounds of testing.
3. Application file system got deleted accidentally on 4th Nov. No issues on Database node .
I want to continue using the same database and old application file system.
Is it possible !!!!! (as we have applied patches within this period)
Please share your thoughts if it can be done ! ! !
Regards,
Djay

Hi Djay,
You may restore the application binary files from your backup, and re-apply the patch. So the necessary application level binaries will be re-generated while the necessary coding at the DB level will also be re-applied.
Note: When re-applying an already existing patch it prompts you that the patch has been already applied and do you wish to re-apply. Just say yes and proceed
Also let us know, what file did you really delete so that we may better assist you.
Thanks &
Best Regards,

• Shared and non-shared application file system in R12

Hi,
We have a oracle apps 11.5.10.2 on mutli node architecture with node 1 hosting DB,CCM and admin while node 2 hosting Form and web servers on Windows 2003.
Some of our Products are in Shared status(Installation) like AD,AU etc and I found that R12 currently does not support the shared file system infrastructure on application tier server nodes running on Windows platforms
Metalink note:384248.1
what will be the impact of this if we plan for R12 upgrade?
Thanks!
Shekhar

Hi Shekar,

I'm slightly confused by your question. Shared application tier file system isn't supported on Windows platforms in 11i, either. From Note 233428.1:

The shared file system infrastructure is not supported on application tier server nodes running Windows platforms or using Oracle9iAS releases earlier than 1.0.2.2.2. Application tier nodes must be running on the same operating system to implement a shared file system.

Are you perhaps referring to the licensing status of your Applications products (i.e. either Installed, Shared, or Not Installed) from the Installed Products report in OAM? If yes, then this should have no impact on your upgrade to R12...those statuses should remain the same when you upgrade. "Shared" in this case relates only to the licensing status of the product, implying that the product is not explicitly licensed (i.e. Installed status), but its functionality is required for used with other Installed products.

• Shared Application File System.

After moving to shared application tier in production
In $IAS_ORACLE_HOME/Apache/Apache/conf I see the security.conf file has version security_ux_ias1022.conf 115.25 2009/04/23 10:04:40 mmanku ship $
but in $CONFIG_TOP/Apache/Apache/conf the sercurity.conf file has the following version security_ux_ias1022.conf 115.29 2009/12/21 05:56:02 sbandla ship $
Which top does oracle use ?
why is the shared IAS Home have a lower version of than the CONFIG_TOP
why does not the one which is not used gets deleted?

• Backup of application file system is also required ?

Hi,
Basic question.
Suppose database is creashed and we have restored it with cold backup taken 2 days back.
How do Oracle Application file system will be in sync with database?
We need to backup the application file system also ?
Thanks,
Kishore

Hi,
It's also worth mentioning that your concurrent logs in the application file system will be out of sync with the records in the database.
If you restore the database from a backup taken a couple of days ago then the records in FND_CONCURRENT_REQUESTS will be a couple of days old, but the users will have been running requests since the backup was made and creating files in $APPLCSF/log/<context>. The danger is that when you restart the environment the users start to run concurrent requests and the output of the request will be appended to the end of the existing logfile.
So best to find the maximum request number in the table and remove any output files newer than that to avoid confusion.

• Shared Application Tier File System in Oracle Applications R12

Hi
Recently I came to an environment, here we are having 3 nodes with Shared Application Tier File System - One is Admin & DB and the other two are Applications Nodes(Apache and Forms) with load balancing. Its a Shared Application Tier File system so APPS_TOP is NFS mounted on two Applications Nodes. But i see ADMIN Node INST_TOP is also mounted on these two Applications Nodes...Could you please let me know what for this is????? or for what reasons we can keep like this?????

my question is Admin node and two Application Nodes are having INST_TOPS locally on those nodes it self, the best practice is to have $INST_TOP directory located on a each server local mount directory.
Re: Shared Application File System on Linux
other than that Why ADMIN Node INST_TOP is mounted on these two Application Nodes.you have to check with your admins who implemented initially.but best practice is to have $INST_TOP directory located on a server local mount point.

• Separating file system

Hi,
We are using 12.0.6, and in our environment we have both application file system and database+RDBMS file system under same mount point (/u01)
cd /u01
applprod oraprod
applprod contanis apps and inst directories
oraprod contains db directory
Now we have created two more file system on the server (sanapp and sandb)
we want to move applprod from /u01 to sanapp and oraprod to /sandb
Please suggest how to do it
Regards

Hi;
I belive easy way is
1. Run preclone on db and apps tier
2. Start postclone
3. Give new path during clone process

• File system notification if file is open by external application

Hello!
I have an application in which a certain temporary file is generated. This file is then loaded by an external web browser. When the browser finished loading the file, I want my application to delete the temporary file. Unfortunately my app is not notified correctly by the browser when loading is complete. I guess this is because the temporary file is not interpreted by the browser itself but by a browser plugin.
So my plan to delete the file when the browser completes loading can't work. Thus I wonder if there is any way to get a file system notification when the file is opened by the browser plugin and when it is closed again.
The whole thing should work for Windows XP. I've searched the whole day but couldn't find an appropriate solution. I search for something like the FileSystemWatcher in .NET. But I even don't know if Windows fires these events when files are opened or closed.
It would be great if someone could help me although it seems to be very tricky.
Thanks in advance,
Robert

• CS3 Uninstaller Did Not Delete All Application Files

A few months ago, I purchased a new MacBook Pro. When I did that, I used Apple's migration assistant to move my programs from my old MacBook to my new MacBook. The Adobe CS 3.3 applications were migated. I recently purchased the upgrade to CS 5.5 Web Premium. I wanted to uninstall CS 3.3 before installing CS 5.5 to save hard drive space. So, I ran the Adobe Uninstaller (Applications > Utilities > Adobe Uninstallers). The Adobe Uninstaller could not find any Abode Products on my MacBook, although they were clearly installed and working. So, I reinstalled CS 3.3 and then tried the Adobe Uninstaller again. This time, the Uninstaller found all of the product and said that it uninstalled all of them. However, it did not delete the application files from my MacBook. I then attempted to run the Adobe CS Cleaner and that also did not delete the application files.
How do I go about deleting the application files?
Is it safe to simply drag the folder for each CS application to the trash at this point?
How can I remove Version Cue CS3 from my System Preferences?
Thanks!

You should find the uninstaller for Acrobat 9 within the Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro folder. Once removed then remove any other Adobe application folders you have listed from the Applications folder. Beyond that you can also find files for the Adobe applications listed in the following locations:
/Library/Application Support/Adobe
/Users/<UserName>/Application Support/Adobe
/Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers/
/Applications/Utilities/Adobe Utilities/
You may need to reinstall Flash player and Shockwave after this procedure but it should remove the files used by CS3. You can then try the CS5.5 installation at that point. I would still caution that if you run into problems with the installation or even run into a problem removing Acrobat 9 that it will still be more efficient to step back and restore the Mac OS and run the Migration Assistant again as previously advised.

• Shared file system between Int and ext server(DMZ) in R12.1.3 for iRec

Dear Friends,
we are using R12.1.3 and we planned to use iRec module.
so we decided to go with External web tier and it will be placed in DMZ for external users.
Is it possible to have shared file system between internal and external web server when external server is in DMZ?
Is it safe to go with shared application Tier file system between internal and external server (or) to have seperate file system in externel web tier?
Regards,
DB

Take a look at Note 380490.1 DMZ Deployment for R12.
Also For Specific Load balancer 727171.1 Up to 12.x but alot of the information is still usefull based on hardware loadbalancer
Also Note 1309013.1 has some good information on SSO/OAM Intergration with E-Business Suite
