Application level class paths AS2 vs AS3

Hi,
I've been messing around with my preferences trying to make some external classes available to any new FLA I make. At first I couldn't get it working, but then I realized I was using the wrong location. I was setting the path for my Actionscript class libraries under "Library path:" instead "Source path:".
Now that I've messed around in PREFERENCES > ACTIONSCRIPT > ACTIONSCRIPT 3.0 SETTINGS, I wondered if there's a default that should be listed before my external classes the same way AS was setup?
Normally my AS2 setttings looked like this..
$(LocalData)/Classes
/path/to/my/library
I have those in there for my AS3 'source path' settings, but I was just following the old AS2 info is that wrong?
Thanks,
Dave

Adobe didn't change the registry organization, Windows did.
I write the installers for my company, too, so I am pretty familiar with this.
On 64 bit Windows, the registry path you see when you get the keys in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/ADOBE are the 64 bit values if you're calling the registy API from a 64 bit process. They are the 32 bit values if you're calling the registry API from a 32 bit process.
So, you can either write seperate 32 and 64 bit installers, or you can become intimately familiar with the registry redirection that takes place on 64 bit windows. ( None of this is a concern on 32 bit-only installations of Windows )
To learn about registry redirection go here:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa384232(v=vs.85).aspx
This is a very important page for installer writers to read:

  • Managed path for host named site collection is farm level or web application level?

    Hi,
    I would like to get advice.
    I created a webapplication for host named site collections.
    these are my host named site collections (except http://sp2013) under my webapplication
    Root Site Collection: http://sp2013
    Site Collection: portal1.sg
    Site Collection: portal1.sg/research
    Site Collection: portal1.sg/intranet
    research and intranet managed paths are farm level
    all my host named site collection will be accessed by http and https except "intranet" site collection will be only accessed by https
    so I changed the Intranet zone for site collection using Set-SPSiteUrl
    Set-SPSiteUrl (Get-SPSite "http://portal1.sg") -Url "https://portal1.sg" -Zone Intranet
    Set-SPSiteUrl (Get-SPSite "http://portal1.sg/research") -Url "https://portal1.sg" -Zone Intranet
    Set-SPSiteUrl (Get-SPSite "http://portal1.sg/intranet") -Url "https://portal1.sg/intranet" -Zone Intranet
    Now I need to create "search" site collection for "Enterprice Search Center"
    My question is that for the "search" managed path ... should i use farm level or web application level?
    "search" site collection will be will be accessed with both http and https also.
    Thanks a lot!

    managed path for HNSC is farm level and u can have 20 managed path
    while managed path for path based is 20 per web application in your case if you are going to have a a separate web application for search then u will use web app

  • JBO:33001 bc4j.xcfg file not found in class path

    Hi,
    I am yet another victim of the age-old error JBO:33001 bc4j.xcfg file not found in class path, When i have my BC4JApp.jar in Tomcat Web-inf/lib directory. All the other jar files and class files in my webserver-application web-inf classes and lib directory works.
    But Tomcat server is not able to read this bc4j.xcfg file. I can see in my jar file that this bc4j.xcfg exists and in the specified package directory. still the problem persists. My BC4JApp.jar is perfectly working when i use JDeveloper. but not when i use tomcat4.0 and call a JSP using BC4JApp.jar from browser (My environment is Jdeveloper3.2, Tomcat4.0+IIS in middle tier and oracle 8i as DB, everything on windows2k)
    I have gone through almost all the threads possible that relates to this error in this form. None of them have a answer except to say "put the file in classpath". and last reply is "will fix in jDeveloper 9i. So what happens to us who are working in Jdeveloper 3.2?
    1. I have this file in my jar file.
    2. I also tried creating a seperate directory manually, with the same name as my package under web-inf/classes, web-inf/lib , just under web-inf directory and atlast under approot directory also. I tried having my package directory containing bc4j.xcfg in these folders one at a time and also tried having this directory in all these folders at the same time.
    Still no solution.
    Itz frustrating that neither proper documentation nor a right url page nor i am aware of available addressing this. page links given in above threads only gives me the wonderful page of ie's "Page cannot be displayed".
    Is there a answer to this error and my problem. If this doesn't work, then i have to all the way develop from scratch creating my jsp using JDBC calls and Stored packages etc.
    I don't want to give up on this Jdeveloper at this final moment because if this bc4j.xcfg file is found, my application will work perfectly. on these final moments, if this doesn't work, i am frightened to imagine to develop my application in standard way. Atlast, if thatz the option left,we have to do that bcos our production date is close by.
    Please can some one in this forum or Jdeveloper help me to solve this problem. I am desperate and very urgent.
    Waiting for a reply from Jdev team very much...
    ( I just posted in the other thread which is pretty old, dated backto May 2001, which was relevant to this error. Just to make sure it is noticed, I am posting it seperately too)
    Thanks
    Hari(2/3/02)

    Hi All,
    For those who are following this thread, I got a solution for this error with the help of Jdev Team.
    This solution may work, if you have deployed your application in Tomcat4.0.1. This is the environment in which I work and tested.
    As you may be aware, Tomcat ignores value in CLASSPATH variable.
    To see any files that are existing or newly deployed, it has it own way of detecting it.
    Addition information on Tomcat working, you can follow this link,
    http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/tomcat-4.0-doc/index.html
    Coming to point, Tomcat has got five classloaders and each classloader invoked, looks in their related directories for files in following order.
    1. /WEB-INF/classes of your web-application
    2. /WEB-INF/lib/*.jar of your web application
    3. BootStrap classes of your JVM (Tomcat's $JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/ext)
    4. System class loader classes($CATALINA_HOME/bin/bootstrap.jar,CATALINA_HOME/lib/tools.jar)
    5. $CATALINA_HOME/common/classes
    6. $CATALINA_HOME/common/lib/*.jar
    7. $CATALINA_HOME//classes
    8. $CATALINA_HOME/lib/*.jar
    So All your individual application related files should be deployed in your application's WEB-INF/classes or WEB-INF/lib directory accordingly.
    If your application files are unpacked, they should be deployed or copied under WEB-INF/classes directory
    if the files are within a jar, they should be under WEB-INF/lib directory.
    If your Jar-files contains bc4j components, then those jar files should be deployed under WEB-INF/lib directory. Also,do the next step to copy all relavant BC4J runtime libraries under lib directory.
    IMPORTANT: Please remember to copy and paste all the required BC4j runtime libraries in the Same WEB-INF/lib directory along with your application jar files. This is the real reason which can solve this JBO:33001 to disappear. It worked for me.
    To configure your directory for tag-lib uri's, use web.xml to set the taglib-uri attribute.
    Put your web.xml and DataTags.tld in the WEB-INF directory.
    Your simple web.xml may look like as follows.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
    <!DOCTYPE web-app
    PUBLIC "-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD Web Application 2.3//EN"
    "http://java.sun.com/dtd/web-app_2_3.dtd">
    <web-app>
         <taglib>
              <taglib-uri>
                   /webapp/DataTags.tld
              </taglib-uri>
              <taglib-location>
                   /WEB-INF/DataTags.tld
              </taglib-location>
         </taglib>
    </web-app>
    You may then modify this web.xml to suit further requirements of your application.
    Remember to stop and restart the Tomcat Server (service) by using shutdown and startup scripts after updating any jar files/class files/ JSP or source files deployed in Tomcat.
    Sometimes, only this helps even though your context's reloadable attribute is set to true in Tomcat Server's server.xml file.
    Hope this above information helps you to solve this error in Tomcat environment. My Sincere thanks once again to Juan and Jdev team for their help and efforts to solve this problem.
    Thanks
    Hari

  • How to keep an application level object running with SunIDM?

    We are working on intergrate a gmail project with SunIDM. We need an application level object running with SunIDM so it will maintain a token generated from Gmail side. In anther servlet project, I had this object saved in the attribute of the ServletContext, then other session level servlet could share this attribute anytime. Is there a way to store attribute in Servlet Context and have it shared by different user session in SunIDM? I have been reading documents and searched this forum, haven't find any topics related how to maintain an application level object live. Hopefully that I can get some hint here.
    Thank you so much.

    Paul, Thank you so much for the further explaination. I don't think it will work since the token generated from gmail will expire every 24 hours.
    We are using the gdata library published from by gmail people, and I create a new UserService object and have it run in the application level. The UserService object will generate a token and renew it every 24 hours behind the scene. Here is how I implement it in my Servlet project:
    //to have a UserService object running at the application level:
    public class GmailUserService extends HttpServlet {
    public void init(ServletConfig config) throws ServletException{
    super.init();
    userService = new UserService(myApplication);
    config.getServletContext().setAttribute("gmailUserService", userService);
    //to access this UserService object from other servlet in each user session:
    UserService userService = (UserService)servletContext.getAttribute("gmailUserService");
    Gmail will trigger an error if we create a new UserService object for each user. They recommend to have all the user to share one UserService object. I am looking for similar approach in SunIDM.
    Thank you again, Paul, for trying to help.

  • Java 5.0 does not recognize wrapped Class-Path in Manifest.MF of .jar file?

    Java: build 1.5.0_05-b05
    Ant: 1.6.2
    I use Ant <jar> task to create a standalone application in a .jar file. I have a very long "Class-Path" in the Manifest.MF file. The long Class-Path is wrapped at every 70th character by the <jar> task. I cannot run "java -jar <the jar file>", because Java runtime cannot find classes.
    I found the following Q&A from ANT's FAQ page,
    Q: Whenever I use the Ant jar or manifest related tasks, long lines in my manifest are wrapped at 70 characters and the resulting jar does not work in my application server. Why does Ant do this?
    A: Ant implements the Java Jar file specification. Please refer to the notes section where it discusses the maximum allowable length of a line and the concept of continuation characters.
    If a jar file produced by Ant does not work in your appserver, and that failure is due to the wrapped manifest, then you need to consult your appserver provider, as it is a bug in their appserver. Far more likely, however, is a problem in your specification of your classpath. It is not Ant's wrapping of your classpath that is the problem.
    Do not raise a bug about this issue until you have checked to ensure that the problem is not due to your classpath specification.
    Any idea?

    "will be searched ALSO."...
    From: http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/ext/basics/load.html
    Understanding Extension Class Loading
    The extension framework makes use of the new class-loading mechanism in the JavaTM 1.2 platform. When the runtime environment needs to load a new class for an application, it looks for the class in the following locations, in order:
    1. Bootstrap classes: the runtime classes in rt.jar and internationalization classes in i18n.jar.
    2. Installed extensions: classes in JAR files in the lib/ext directory of the JRE.
    3. The class path: classes, including classes in JAR files, on paths specified by the system property java.class.path. If a JAR file on the class path has a manifest with the Class-Path attribute, JAR files specified by the Class-Path attribute will be searched also.

    Hi,
    The problem you are referring above is definitely due to the java embedding you are using.
    This seems to be a simple Hello World example, and if you are looking for the same to work, you can simply use an assign activity to concat the input with the Hello world.
    If you are trying to use a java embedding activity which has some custom java coding in it, please refer to the following:
    Make sure all the dependent classes are explicitly mentioned with their packagename.ClassName.
    Also , make sure you make all the classes as jar and include it in sca-inf\lib directory of the code.
    a) See that your external / dependent Java applications dependent Jar files are copied in csa-inf/lib (e.g all jars like log4j, apache jars, wickets jar etc etc etc )
    b) also make sure u deploy the dependent java application as JAR using jdeveloper deploy wizard.... for example archive1.jar and then copy this jar as well in sca - inf / lib folder
    it will work ....
    Thanks,
    Deepak.

  • Domain/lib class path issues

    Hello,
    We are migrating one of our applications from Web Logic 8.1 to 10. The new instance is going to have 2 managed servers, under the web logic domain, hosting the server EAR as well as web WAR respectively. Now the application has certain jars that need to be available for the startup classes in both these modules. As Web Logic provides a feature to place the jars in the domain/lib so they are visible to both the applications, we have included the jars in the domain/lib directory. However, when the startup class loads, it is not able to access any of the classes that are part of the jars in the domain/lib folder! Instead, we are presented with a NoClassDefinitionFound error!!
    I am writing to see if any one has any insight on what could be causing this and if this is doable in the first place!
    Thanks,
    SG

    You are facing the problem of classloaders.
    What is inside the ejb classloader, cannot be accessed by a sibling classloader or a parent classloader.
    Thus, u need to package the home and remote interfaces inside the WAR.
    As regards the utilities used by ejb and servlets, place them at a common location: the servers classpath. Again, exercise some caution. If u place the utility classes in server's class path, then the ejb and servlets can access theese utility classes, but the utility classes cannot access the servlets/ejb classes (ie, utility will be in parent class loader and it cannot access the classes in its child classloaders)

  • How do I get external classes to work in AS3? Sample included.

    I'm trying to make this work, and something basic must be missing.  Its straight out of the Adobe help file example.
    CS4, Actionscript 3
    Here's what I'm doing:
    1.  create an .as file and name it "HelloWorldExample"
    2.  Put the script below in it and save it.
    3.create a new .fla file and save it to the same directory.
    4.in that .fla file, put "HelloWorldExample" in the Document properties Class field
    5. Save it and run the movie.
    I get a white screen.  Nothing.  I've tried a few other examples as well, but I haven't been able to get ANY external .as files to run. This is the simplest one.
    Do I need to import them or call them in some way other than step 4?
    Did I miss something?
    package
        import flash.text.engine.*;
        import flash.display.Sprite;
        public class HelloWorldExample extends Sprite
            public function HelloWorldExample()
                var str = "Hello World! This is Flash Text Engine!";
                var format:ElementFormat = new ElementFormat();
                var textElement:TextElement = new TextElement(str, format);

                addChild(textLine1);

    As long as you have your class paths set properly, it's better to have your .as files located in a different loc than your .fla. What if you want to use the same class in different .fla files? Are you going to copy it into every project folder? That sort of defeats the purpose of using classes then, because if you change it you have to change it in various places. Not good. Not OOD.
    So: Edit > Preferences > AS3 Settings - Add paths to the source path... or one path... something like c:\flashclasses\as3
    Then inside your as3 folder you set your package folders. If you use TweenLite you'd have:
    com
         greensock
              TweenLite classes
    or your own:
    com
         myDomain
              my classes
    then you'd import like:
    import com.greensock.TweenLite;
    import com.myDomain.myClass;
    Make sense?

  • How do I add the system classpath to Jar Manifest Class-Path

    My application is implemented on win2000 and need to be moved to unix as a executable jar file, the oracle jdbc classes (classes12.zip and classes111.zip) were included in MANIFEST.MF as the following:
    Class-Path: /Oracle/Ora81/jdbc/lib/classes12.zip /Oracle/Ora81/jdbc/lib/classese111.zip
    When I move the jar file to unix, the classpath will be changed, is there a way to make the jar file read the class-path from system CLASSPATH?
    Thank you.
    Y.

    I have the same problem for weeks now, and I can't seem to get it solved. If you found anything please inform me.
    thanks in advance

  • How to set the class path?-

    my forlder is :C:\Documents and Settings\india
    jdk is in:C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_11\bin
    can any body can help me to create a classpath for my folder?

    An alternative - as stated in reply 2 in your other thread on this topic: http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5170470 - is not to set the CLASSPATH environment variable at all. Use the -classpath switch instead.
    As the documentation linked to in that reply points out: "The class search path (more commonly known by the shorter name, "class path") can be set using either the -classpath option when calling a JDK tool (the preferred method) or by setting the CLASSPATH environment variable. The -classpath option is preferred because you can set it individually for each application without affecting other applications and without other applications modifying its value."
    As always, the documentation is worth reading; the available command line options worth using.

  • Convert AS2 To AS3

    So I made this basic game a few years ago which was in AS2 and Flash 6.  Now I want to convert this game from AS2 to AS3 but I have no idea where to start.  The code is approximalty 4k lines long and I don't know what to change to make it work in AS3.  What do you guys suggest?

    Are you using external .as files and classes or are you using frame scripts directly in the timeline? Are you used to any other object oriented programming languages? Knowing more about other languages you might know would help a lot.
    AS2 very informal and specialized to Flash. It relates to pretty much no other language out there, like JavaScript seldom relates. They're c-esque but only in a very distant 3rd cousin style.
    AS3 is much more OOP oriented and typed versus the less formal, error-prone loose dynamic nature of AS2. While your game would benefit greatly from the speed increases and error reduction, I think you're really swinging for the fence on this one. While some classes may resemble their AS2 counterpart and the core global functions work the same, everything else is different. Starting off trying to convert 4,000 lines of code is a little steep.
    As mentioned, the resources to learn AS3 are excessive and plentiful from video training to tutorials to the API reference itself. Google has it all.
    I think you really should lower your target and just try some really simple, basic things. Draw a shape, add a listener, do something basic when clicked, etc. You'll get a good idea of how different things are with the new display list rather than tearing your hair out converting your as2 game.

  • Classpath, weblogic.class.path, server's class path, javaclasspath, serverclasspath ?? confused

    When I type t3config , I see a couple of class paths and I'm confused which
    one is which and
    what are the diffrences between them, there is classpath, javaclasspath,
    serverclasspath, weblogic.class.path
    and JVM class path, Server's class path on the weblogic console window.
    any clearification is appreciated.
    thanks,
    CLASSPATH Prefix
    CLASSPATH
    JAVA_HOME
    WEBLOGIC_LICENSEDIR
    WEBLOGIC_HOME
    system properties
    weblogic.class.path
    INITIAL HEAP
    MAX HEAP
    SERVERCLASSPATH

    Why would you do that - same class in both class paths? Don't.
    Don't put any application classes in the system
    classpath (JAVACLASSPATH).

  • Weblogic.class.path

    I am using WL 5.1, SP12, on Solaris ...
              I am running jsp code that accesses a bean class specified in the weblogic.class.path in my startscript.
              I got a "ClassNotFound" error when I run the jsp code.
              Are all classes in weblogic.class.path of a given WL server visible to JSPs running in that server - regardless web-applications?
              I appreciate any help. Thanks

    Look at startWeblogic.{cmd/sh}.
    WLCLASSPATH should include the weblogic classes and any of your classes.
    JAVACLASSPATH include the JDK classes, the weblogic/classes/boot and DB
    access classes
    (Cloudscape.jar, JConnect classes, etc.) and NOTHING else.

    The documentation on setting up the environment mentions this property
    but doesn't give any information on where it should be set.
    How is this system property specified and what is it used for ?
    Should it be specified via wlconfig.exe or is included in
    weblogic.properties ?
    I'm currently using the latest beta for WLS.

  • Alternate drives in Jar file Class-Path attribute

    Hello, all. I am working on a project that I would like to package into a single jar file for simple execution. At my place of work classes from EJB are stored on a different drive from where I am doing the development. I am having trouble accessing those classes from the Jars I am creating. When I try the following manifest:
    Main-Class: MyPackage.MyClass
    Class-Path: U:\someFolder
    the application will not start, saying that MyPackage.MyClass cannot be found. This is despite MyPackage.MyClass being properly packaged into the Jar file, as verified by a jar t operation. When I leave off the drive letter in the Class-Path attribute:
    Main-Class: MyPackage.MyClass
    Class-Path: someFolder
    the application starts and executes properly right up until a class from someFolder is needed, at which point exceptions begin to be thrown.
    Any ideas will be much appreciated!
    John Todd

    I was eventually able to find the answer to my own question: Jars do not accept absolute paths at all, only relative paths. Thus, the alternate drive approach will not work. Fortunately I was able to find an alternate solution.
