Application Properties file

Hi,
I have a java DC which should be able to read some application properties like
mdm.servername
mdm.repositoryname
mdm.username
I have tried using the ApplicationConfigHandler class in which I created a EAR and Web Module DC and when I run this web module dc as standalone, the properties file "sap.application.global.properties" gets loaded successfully.
But when I call this webmodule Dc's method to load properties from a Java DC , all the properties are null.
Is there any other way that I can load properties in java DC which can be modified without having to redeploy the java dc.
Thanks
MLS

Hi
Use [configuration services |https://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/b8/aa343e32ff1033e10000000a114084/frameset.htm] in order to created application-specific properties that can be modified at run-time.
Good luck,
Ola

  • Application.Properties Loosing Content

    I am using Action.Properties to set error codes and display them as part of my validation.
    I am setting the Error in a Validate class using the following Syntax
    errors.add(ActionErrors.GLOBAL_ERROR,new ActionError("error.FirstField.invalid"));
    I am routing control back to homepage incase of an error and printing the same using
    <html:errors/>
    This Works Just FIne, Until i re-build the application.
    Once i re-Build, the content in application.Properties disappears. Just Gone!
    Have you guys had the same problem or do i have the patent this rare finding, LOL

    If you are loosing the complete application.Properties file, the reason may be that you are putting this file at wrong place. I think you are putting it in classes folder and when you re build the complete application, all the existing files are flushed by the newly genrated class files. If you are using any advanced editor like WSAD, you should put this file in a package in Java Source. So that when you rebuild the project, it will be copied as it is in the classes folder. And accordingly you need to change the path of this file into struts-config.xml.

  • Is it possible to reference environment variables in the .properties files?

    Here’s what I’d like to do…
    In the application.properties files, I tell OPA where the docgen server is via this setting:
    # Location of the Document Generation Server
    plugin.docgen.server.url=http://bipDev/document-generation-server/
    Note that this is the setting from my Dev environment.
    Because I have separate DocGen servers for each environment, I have to maintain separate copies of this file for each environment. For example, my Prod file contains this setting:
    # Location of the Document Generation Server
    plugin.docgen.server.url=http://bipPrd/document-generation-server/
    Notice that it’s a very slight changes. I’d like to use something like this instead:
    # Location of the Document Generation Server
    plugin.docgen.server.url=http://%BIP_SERVER%/document-generation-server/
    Obviously, I’d create an environment variable on each server to accommodate the setting. For example, on my Prod machine, I’d create this environment variable:
    BIP_SERVER = bipPrd

    Unfortunately environment variables cannot be used in the OPA .properties files. The only way to do this is to maintain separate properties for your different environments.

  • In a new Application, the ApplicationResources_en.properties file is not having the constraint messages created

    Hi Everyone:
              We are using JDev 11.1.2 and JHeadstart 11.1.2.  We have been having a multitude of problems when running applications through the migrator (and we have now been told by an Oracle consultant that the migrator is problematic), so we are trying to re-write things from scratch to bring them over from 11.1.1.4 to 11.1.2.
              I have been working on a simple application from scratch and discovered that the messages for constraints on the entities that I am using are not showing up in the ApplicationResources_en.properties.file.  We noticed a similar thing with converting an application using the migrator and that post is found here - java.lang.NullPointerException ADF_FACES-60097 message ***WITH SOLUTION*** -.
              However, I didn't get a single reply to that thread.
              I initially thought it was a migration issue, but this application is from scratch.  Whenever I tried to input an invalid value into a page column, the following exception would be received.
    "java.lang.NullPointerException  ADF_FACES-60097:For more information, please see the server's error log for an entry beginning with: ADF_FACES-60096:Server Exception during PPR, #"
               This Null Pointer turned out to be the missing message from the ApplicationResources_en.properties file.  In the new application I just wrote, I had to manually edit to add the following lines to the ApplicationResources_en.properties file and the application no longer gives me the error if I input an invalid value.

    Hi Everyone:
               I have done some further testing.  We are using a re-usable Business Components .jar file to access our entities.  We import the .jar file into the project and create the ViewObjects and ViewLinks from that .jar file.
                It APPEARS that a test case using the HRSchema and using the Entities & Associates generates the constraint error messages, but when I use the .jar file of re-usable business components imported into the project, those constraint error messages are not created in the ApplicationResources_en.properties file.  I have created two testcases as well as the re-usable .jar file that I can send to you to show what I mean.
                This behaviour seems to have shown up in 11.1.2 as there was no problem before this.
                 Please let me know where you'd like me to upload the testcases.
                 Thank you.

  • Deploying properties files outside of the web application in WebLogic 8.1

    Hi
              I am wondering if it is possible to deploy a web application and place configuration files (properties files, log4j xml files etc...) in a folder somewhere within WebLogic that is on the Server instance classpath. This would allow me to edit the config files and restart the server without having to hack into the web application .war file and then redeploy.
              I am really looking for an equivalent of the /applib folder in Oracle 10gAS (each OC4J server instance has an /applib folder which is on the classpath of the server).
              Is there an equivalent for a weblogic server instance?? (i.e. not just for the entire weblogic server but for individual sever instances).
              thanks
              Will

    WLS 9.2 includes pretty advanced features in this area. Both deployment plans and application libraries could be used. There's also a domain/lib directory where jar files can be placed and are visible throughout the server instance.
              Unfortunately 8.1 has none of these features. In 8.1, your choices are to either add these into the $CLASSPATH, or package them in the application.

  • Location of application-specific properties files

    I am using Tomcat 4.0.3 under WinXP Pro, and I am trying to get my
    application to "find" an application-specific properties file. I am having problems trying to determine which directory to put this file in.
    Here is the Java code I am using for this class:
    import java.util.Properties;
    import java.io.FileInputStream;
    public class ForumProperties extends Properties {
       private static final String DEFAULT_FILENAME = "/WEB-INF/classes/mystuff.properties";
       private static ForumProperties globalProps;
       private ForumProperties() {
       private ForumProperties(String fileName) throws Exception {
          this();
          load(new FileInputStream(fileName));
       public static ForumProperties getInstance() throws Exception {
          try {
             if (globalProps == null)
                globalProps = new ForumProperties(DEFAULT_FILENAME);
          } catch (Exception ex) {
             ex.printStackTrace(System.out);
             throw new Exception("Error loading properties file");
          return globalProps;
    }I have put the properties file in just about every directory I can think of to try and find out where it's supposed to be, but I can't get it to work. I can put the file into the "user.home" System property (which turns out to be C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator) and have it pick it up, but I would prefer to put the file into the path of the application.
    I have tried four different methods to load this file:
    1. load(new FileInputStream(fileName)); (same as above)
    2. load(Thread.currentThread().getContextClassLoader().getResourceAsStream(fileName));
    3. load(this.getClassLoader().getResourceAsStream(fileName));
    4. load(getServletContext().getResourceAsStream(fileName));
    All of them fail for not finding the file except #4, but that's not the
    optimal solution as it requires a servlet context, which for "genericness of code reasons", I DON'T want to do.
    As an aside, I pulled the "java.class.path" from the System properties to see where it's pointing, and all it has in it is
    "<CATALINA_HOME>\bin\bootstrap.jar" with no other paths included.
    Is there an attribute or something in the server.xml or web.xml file I am forgetting to set, or another approach I should be taking?
    Bob

    See if this code fragment helps.
              String MAIN_FILE_PATH = "./BlueGnome/demos/Properties/DemoPropertiesFile.properties";
              java.net.URL url = ClassLoader.getSystemClassLoader().getResource(MAIN_FILE_PATH);
              System.out.println("PATH: resolved name = " + url);
              // Get the file.
              // We could just use FileInputStream here.  Then we would have
              // to provide a path that was meaningful to the system like
              //     c:\java\BlueGnome\demos\Properties\DemoPropertiesFile.properties
              // Doing it this way allows us to use generic directory
              // seperators and allows for it to search for the file using
              // the CLASSPATH.  That also allows for it to be in a jar file.
              java.io.InputStream is;
              is = ClassLoader.getSystemClassLoader().getResourceAsStream(MAIN_FILE_PATH);
              if (is == null)
                   throw new Exception("Resource File "
                        + MAIN_FILE_PATH + " not found.");
              aProperties.load(is);

  • How to read JBoss server 'app.properties' file in the deployed Flex application?

    Hi, my current Flex project is using LCDS server to make call (Remote object call and Data managements services' call) to the backend Java services and consume data to render. I have defined the AMF and RTMP channels in the services-config.xml file and destinations for the Java services' in the remoting-config.xml and data-management-config.xml files.
         <channel-definition id="my-amf" class="mx.messaging.channels.AMFChannel">
                <endpoint url="http://localhost:8080/eqcFlex/messagebroker/amf" class="flex.messaging.endpoints.AMFEndpoint"/>
                <properties>
                    <polling-enabled>false</polling-enabled>
                </properties>
         </channel-definition>
    As of now both the Flex application WAR file and Java services EAR files are depolyed on the JBoss server on my machine, therefore I can hardcode the endpoint URL as http://localhost:8080 in the services-config file and hit the Java services.
    But the requirement is that the Flex application WAR file needs to be deployed on JBoss servers deployed on different machines and hence the endpoint URL cann't be hardcoded in the services-config.xml file. Is there a way we can pick up the endpoint URL from the JBoss server's app.properties file so that we can dynamically create channels in Actionscript code and make call to the backend services with dynamic endpoint URL?

    But in Command prompt I found out that My properties file by name
    'cedrelay.properties' is not recognised by web.xml.My web.xml structure is
    How does web.xml "recognize" anything?
    You specify the properties file as an init parameter. Do you read it in the init method of the servlet? If so, what does the code look like for reading the properties file?
    You'll have better luck if you put that properties file in WEB-INF/classes and load it as a resource input stream from the CLASSPATH.

  • How to handle multiply properties.files in combined applications

    I have some applications bundled into one jar for each application. The applications make all use of a properties.file in it's own /resources/ folder within the jarfile.
    To avoid running each application on the desktop with it's own JVM and as seperate programs, I wrote a menuprogram which can start the applications within a splitted pane. Left pand is a JTree menu, right side is the applicationspace. This way i have only one JVM active and all app's can be accessed from within a single window. This menu applications also has it's own properties.file.
    I noticed that the applications now all use the same properties.file which is actually not correct. The file used is the one which belongs to the menu application.
    So i have : menu.jar, app1.jar, app2.jar, appn.jar
    The menu.jar is started and from within this application i run the other applications (jInternalFrames). All apps seems to see only the properties.file within the menu.jar IMHO because i create the objects from app1, app2 and appn from within the menu.
    QUESTION:
    How can i change the code to force each app.object to use the propsfile delivered in his own jar-file?
    Here's a code snippet used in each application.
    setPropertiesFileName("/resources/application.properties");
    try {
    is_ = getClass().getResourceAsStream(propertiesFileName);
    props.load(is_);
    catch(Exception e){
    // Debug Props
    setDEBUG_LEVEL(props.getProperty("DEBUG_LEVEL"));
    setTRACE_ENABLED(props.getProperty("TRACE_ENABLED"));
    ...

    You can do this, but is it generally a bad idea which can turn into a nightmare to manage.
    Instead each application should use a different properties file. Is there a good reason every application proeprties must have the same name and path?

  • Accessing properties files in jspx page in ADF Generic application

    Hi All
    I have created an genric application .I have jdevloper 11.1.1.3.I need to add the .properties file in my application and access that properties file in my .jspx page.
    so i have created the Resources folder and added the properties file in that folder and now i am trying to access that contents of that properties file in my jspx page using below code
    <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?>
    <jsp:root xmlns:jsp="http://java.sun.com/JSP/Page" version="2.1"

                  <af:outputText value="#{props['sample.label.text1']} " />
                  <af:outputText value="#{pageFlowScope.UserId}" />
              </af:panelGroupLayout>
    </jsp:root>but iam not able to access the propert and blank page is only displayed
    so what more steps i need to do to access it?
    Note:-previously i created the application of type Fusion Web Application ,where it added the folder named view and we used to add the .property file in it and accessed the contents of the .property file using above code and tthe above code was running fine.

    Hi All
    I solved this issue
    by adding the following code in faces config.xml
    <application>
    <resource-bundle>
         <base-name>com.property.sampleproperty</base-name>
          <var>props</var>
        </resource-bundle>
    </application>note :The sampleproperty.properties should be present in java package com.property.sampleproperty

    log4j:WARN Please initialize the log4j system properly.
    One complication, my log4j.properties file is actually called "my.properties" (bizarre company reason). Is there somewhere in my faces-config.xml file or an equivalent where I can indicate what log4j properties file I'd like to use?Your company policy is to use non-standard names so that things must be configured manually? Interesting.
    In the past people created a servlet those sole purpose was to configure log4j in the initialization sequence and then do nothing.

  • Initializing Application Params (web.xml vs. Properties file)?

    Hi Friends,
    Basically a question where I do not have much experience...
    I think that I have the choice of initializing web application wide parameters either with:
    a) Properties file (text file as managed by the Properties framework) or,
    + Here it is easy to read, modify parameters, ...
    - I dislike the deployment (manual procedure of storing the file in a particular directory...)
    b) web.xml (deployment descriptor) and "context-param".
    - The problem here is that it does not seems "easy" to change the deployed values in a web.xml from a java program.
    + Very easy to deploy (war, ear files)
    I would like to implement a solution that is:
    * Easy for the end-user to change its values
    * Easy to deploy and configure
    From some testing, I think that the properties file (and framework) is a better solution, but not sure...Any more expert advice?
    Thanks in advance!

    A properties file is often used with parameters that vary depending on a particular Locale. Under these circumstances, I find it impractical to store the file in an archive because the user in a given Locale may want to use the original file as a template to create a new Locale-specific version.
    Whenever I need to initialize my application with parameters that are totally under my control (e.g., when the parameters do not vary by Locale but new ones may be added or old ones removed), I often use just a plain .txt file kept inside of an archive file like a jar and access it file with something like this:
    URL url=myDialog.class.getResource("Params/myParams.txt");
    That's just my 2-cents.

  • Application Module Configuration Properties file?

    Hi,
    Any body knows where could i find the Application Module Configuration Properties file on the disk.
    (This properties on wizard are appeared when we right click on application module and select configuration...)

    Curt,
    Thanks for your direction. That link is vary useful to be familiar with the AM configuration setting.
    Frankly, during last few months I was extremely busy to develop JSP pages. And didnt study much about AM But now that we are close to move the application to production I faced unacceptable problems. Recently I started to read your/and other folks treads to get more familiar with AM.
    Here is some of the problem i faced, which i think are AM related:
    1-The application speed goes down as soon as more than 2-3 browser(user) work with the same application(most probably I have memory leak).
    2-Some times I received following error when tried to load a JSP page in the application:
    Error Message: oracle.jbo.PCollException: JBO-28020: Passivation error on collection TXN, node id -1 void
    3-I faced following error when I tried to work with two applications in one or even two browsers:
    Error Message: JBO 30004: An application module that was not checked out was checked in...
    So, please let me know your idea on those and/or any point that I have to check.
    By the way, I am still on JDev9i-Beta and I accepted all default setting at the time I created AM . but the state of each page explicitly defined at the page level(mostly stateful, but on some of the pages i didn't mentioned the state which by default is stateless).
    Thanks.

  • Application specific properties file

    Hello
              Can any body help me how to build application specific properties file
              so that we can have independent application specific server with its own
              java class path environment.I read the procedure in beasys manuals but i
              could'nt understand clearly.
              Setting application-specific properties
              The weblogic.properties file is only accessible by WebLogic; that is,
              you can't add application-specific properties to the weblogic.properties
              file and expect that they will be read at startup time. However, you can
              set properties for your own application by creating a separate
              properties file. This file can be created and used in two ways:
              Put your application-specific properties file in the same directory as
              your weblogic.properties file. You can then use the following code to
              access the properties:
              Properties props = new Properties();
              String propertiesName = "myapp.properties";
              T3ServicesDef services =
              T3Services.getT3Services();
              String location =
              services.config().getProperty("weblogic.system.home") +
              java.io.File.separator + propertiesName;
              props =
              props.load(new DataInputStream(new FileInputStream(location)));

    Hi, Ravi.
              I think I am "WeiG".
              Basically, you can not put your own properties on weblogic.properties. Every
              property in weblogic.properties managed by WLAS is pre-registered in WLAS
              internally. WLAS will print "Fund undefined property ...." messages for the
              un-registered property in weblogic.properties files.
              To use your application-specific properties, the paragraph you read suggests
              you create your own file, put it in $WL_HOME, and use the example code to
              read your own file.
              Hope it helps.
              Cheers - Wei
