Application Server 10.3.1Deployment Question

Hi All,
I am fairly new to Oracle Development and Depoyments and need some direction on how to deploy properly.
Here is my environment - I have 6 Application Servers all configured exactly the same where I will deploy my App. Two load balanced servers for each location
Server A (West Coast)
Server B (West Coast)
Server C (East Coast)
Server D (East Coast)
Server E (UK)
Server F (UK)
Currently, I have one properties file in my application that holds all my configuration, connection string, so on and so on. This is where my first problem starts
In my properties files I am having to do this kind of thing
#A & B
SQLConnectionString=jdbc:jtds:sqlserver://fcsql01:1433;user=generalread;password=5general6;databasename=general;SelectMethod=Cursor
SQLDriver=net.sourceforge.jtds.jdbc.Driver
#C & D
#SQLConnectionString=jdbc:jtds:sqlserver://DRGNETDB01:1433;user=generalread;password=5general6;databasename=general;SelectMethod=Cursor
#SQLDriver=net.sourceforge.jtds.jdbc.Driver
When I deploy to A & B I have to comment out the details for C & D, deploy then change the properties file and then deploy to C & D....
As you can imagine this gets very annoying trying to keep track of all these details in the same file.
So after all that, here is my question. Is there a way that I can have seperate files that deploy to a specific server without having to constantly change the flie?
Also regarding deployment, how can I script my deployment to deploy to all servers without having to individually deploy each?
Any help would be appreciated, please let me know if there are any details about my app that will help answer this question?
Thanks

salsipius,
Nothing really to do with Oracle at all. Why not use data sources instead of a JDBC url? That way, you can have servers A+B with the datasource pointing to one database and servers A+B pointing to the different one. Your Java code would just get the data source instead of hard-coding a JDBC connection like that.

    Hi,
    I am using SAS 8 EE. I have two stand alone server instances and I am trying to make a call from a message bean in one instance to a message bean in the other instance. When I do this I get an exception in the node agent of the message bean instance. It is:

    Thanks for you help

    I'm getting something very similar... but in my case, I don't want/expect a corba connection.
    I'm trying to use the SunAppserver 8 that is packaged with creator to create a web application that talks to a WebLogic server. The code for communicating with the weblogic server is throwing a similar error.
    The stack trace starts with a line by line print of the contents of the properties used to get the initial context... here:
    System.out.println("===========> HEY <=============");
    for (Iterator it=env.keySet().iterator(); it.hasNext();) {
    String key = (String) it.next();
    String value = (String) env.get(key);
    System.out.println("key = " + key + " value = " + value);
    Context ctx = new InitialContext(env);
    ejbHome = (EJBHome)PortableRemoteObject.narrow(ctx.lookup(jndiName), EJBHome.class);
    ctx.close();

    hi naresh
    i think there is some miscommunication in case of my question,my requirement is to add a logo in excel sheet from application server,i mean when the user clicks to download the excel sheet the logo should immediately appear in the excel sheet,and it is not a fixed logo it can be anything which appears in applicaton server(on that program).
    as far as excel sheet stanalone is concerned i know to do it and as well as to get the logo  in the application server standalone ,but i cant download the logo in excel sheet from the application server.now does my question make sense ?

  • Deploying forms to the Application Server

    We are about to use SCM to store our forms and reports.
    We also run application server AS10g.
    My question is:
    Is it possible to deploy forms through scm to the application server with out using the file system?

    i've done this with :
    f90genm.sh module=myform.fmb userid=username/passwd@tns_connect_string;
    if you know some unix commands you can make a script to compile all fmb's modified in the last DAY/HOUR/MINUTE!!!! i can say that im not a bash expert :)))
    you may take attention that working with Forms IDE under windows will make that specific language CHARS like portuguese G or C or I, or spanish Q, and russian chars for instance... will be showed has ? after compiled in Linux/Unix plataform! For instance BRAGANGA would be wrote as BRAGAN?A!

  • How to pull all the txt files from an application server to oracle server

    hi
    i got some 30 txt files on java application server. i have two questions
    1) can java guys will be able to move those files to some oracle directory that will be used by create external table command.
    2) can oracle do that using a stored procedure ..but then for it i think i have to create ftppkg and ftpbdy and call and connect each time...
    which one is better and why?
    regards
    raj

    Hi,
    You can create procedure to move file from application server to oracle server.
    Code for list all files in directory
    ops$tkyte@8i> GRANT JAVAUSERPRIV to ops$tkyte
      2  /
    Grant succeeded.
    That grant must be given to the owner of the procedure..  Allows them to read
    directories.
    ops$tkyte@8i> create global temporary table DIR_LIST
      2  ( filename varchar2(255) )
      3  on commit delete rows
      4  /
    Table created.
    ops$tkyte@8i> create or replace
      2     and compile java source named "DirList"
      3  as
      4  import java.io.*;
      5  import java.sql.*;
      6
      7  public class DirList
      8  {
      9  public static void getList(String directory)
    10                     throws SQLException
    11  {
    12      File path = new File( directory );
    13      String[] list = path.list();
    14      String element;
    15
    16      for(int i = 0; i < list.length; i++)
    17      {
    18          element = list;
    19 #sql { INSERT INTO DIR_LIST (FILENAME)
    20 VALUES (:element) };
    21 }
    22 }
    23
    24 }
    25 /
    Java created.
    ops$tkyte@8i>
    ops$tkyte@8i> create or replace
    2 procedure get_dir_list( p_directory in varchar2 )
    3 as language java
    4 name 'DirList.getList( java.lang.String )';
    5 /
    Procedure created.
    ops$tkyte@8i>
    ops$tkyte@8i> exec get_dir_list( '/tmp' );
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    ops$tkyte@8i> select * from dir_list where rownum < 5;

  • Is Oracle10g Application Server EE5 compliant?

    Is Oracle 10g Application server EE5 compliant?

    Jap:
    Yes, as Avi said, oc4j standalone does not include a jdk. In contrast, the oracle application server of various versions I installed include a jdk; although it is probably true for all types of oracle application server installation, I prefer not to swear it. I Just in case it is not very obvious to you, oc4j and oracle Application Server are not the same thing. The reason why I did not suggest you that you should go to the forum "application server -general" for your question is that the compatibilities of application server to j2se or j2ee versions are largely determined by the case with oc4j.
    For more information on certification matrix of oracle application server, google "site:oracle.com application server certification".
    By the way, it seems that 10.1.2.0.2 of oc4j standalone are compatible with jdk 1.5 as mentioned by Avi. However, I do not konw if it is supported.

  • Oracle Application Server Release 2 (10.1.2) Deployment Notes question

    Hi!
    I'm following the Oracle Application Server Release 2 (10.1.2) Deployment Notes (http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/html/B25947_01/deployment_topics006.htm) for deploying an application, built in Jdeveloper 10.1.3 to AS 10.1.2. I have a question about Configuring JDeveloper to Generate Configuration Files That Are J2EE 1.3-Compliant. Do I need all the files in table 34-3? (http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/html/B25947_01/deployment_topics006.htm#CIHHBJAI)
    I already have some of these files. Can I change the version of existing files or do I need new ones? How can I change the version of existing files?
    Here are the headers of some of these files:
    web.xml: (Here I probably just change version="2.4" to version="2.3")
    <?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'windows-1250'?>
    <web-app xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
             xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee/web-app_2_4.xsd"
             version="2.4" xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee">
    orion-application.xml: (Is version="10.0" the version I need to change to "1.2"?)
    <?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'windows-1252'?>
    <orion-application xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
                       xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.oracle.com/technology/oracleas/schema http://xmlns.oracle.com/oracleas/schema/orion-application-10_0.xsd"
                       version="10.0"
                       xmlns="http://www.oracle.com/technology/oracleas/schema">
    data-sources.xml.xml: (This file has only XML version, I don't believe this is the version I need to change)
    <?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'windows-1250'?>I only have these three files from the table in my application. Do I need application.xml and oc4j-connectors.xml too?
    Thank you in advance!

  • Question about the choice of containers of the J2EE application server

    Hello,
    I need to be clarified about the J2EE technology. After read some documentation about J2EE, I saw that it is possible to use different kind of containers in order to develop a J2EE application.
    Actually I use an application server (JONAS) with tomcat embbeded so I develop my application that is composed by EJB and servlet. So when I build and deploy my application at the end I have got a .ear, and everything works well.
    But my questions are:
    1- If I installe a J2EE server where a web server (Tomcat or another) is already installed can I use this web server as my web container.
    2- If it is possible how can I indicate to my J2EE server that I want to use this web server as a web container?
    3- And for my application does the .ear will work or do I have to split my entire application in .jar for the EJB and .WAR for the servlet.
    4- My last question, how my .war and .jar will know that they have to work together, in fact do I have to precise a link between them if yes how?
    Thank you very much for any information

    1. Every J2EE server must have a web container, so one will always be installed. As long as you write a compliant .war that is deployed either stand-alone or as part of an .ear, you can be guaranteed it will deploy and run.
    2. The fact that you are deploying a .war or an .ear that contains 1 or more .wars is enough for the J2EE product to know you need to run the web-application on the web container. Many people uses the terms
    web server and web container interchangeably. Often people are more likely to use the term web server if it runs as a separate process. If it helps, you can think of the J2EE web container as being an implementation of a servlet and jsp container that runs on top of a regular HTTP engine, but J2EE vendors don't necessarily have to have separate products for each.
    3. You can either deploy a standalone .war or embed 1 or more .wars within an .ear.
    4. The fact that you have a .war and an ejb-jar within the same .ear tells the application
    server that they're part of the same application. If you need to talk between your web application
    and the ejb, there are number of ways to express that dependency. E.g., if you want to invoke on
    an ejb through its Remote client view, you would define an ejb-ref in the environment of the web-application.

  • Questions about application server architecture

    Hello guys,
    I have few questions about application server architecture
    I have a task to build a server application which will do the following: Clients (special java clients) will connect to it and send some data for further processing on server side. Chunks of data will be relatively small but they will take a lot of time for processing (it is ok that it will be quite slow).
    Also server will run some sort of database where all clients working data will be stored. So, in case a client loses its data he/she is always able to download it from the server.
    For me it seems, like server will consist of the following components:
    1. Reception. This part will be responsible for all client-communication procedures.
    2. Data storage. This part will simply store all clients data and provide some API interface for clients through reception to manage it (add/get/delete and so on).
    3. Processor. Some sort of dummy-sophisticated module. It will take some input data from data storage when it receives order for this and process it. Processor will have two states: busy which means processor processing some data and available which means processor ready to process new data.
    4. Manager. This part will always check data storage for new data and processor for availability. When processor and new data are available manager will make an order for processor to take new data from data storage and process it.
    So, my question is the following: Which technology and approaches I should use to realize my plan?
    I think that I can make reception as a Session Bean, but I dont know yet, what are the best for the rest, for example manager and processor. I was thinking about writing my own application server (and I can do it), but I would like to learn j2ee technologies, so I think it is a perfect chance for me (I read a lot about j2ee before I wrote this post, but all examples have only account-bill-money transfer I think it is quite far away from reality or I am doing something wrong ;-)!
    p.s. I am thinking about using JBoss as an Application Server. I tested it and wrote some tests. They work and run fast enough, so I like it. Moreover it has module architecture.
    Please, give me some advises and tips!
    Thank you in advance!

    1. Reception. This part will be responsible for all
    client-communication procedures.Session bean with remote interface.
    2. Data storage. This part will simply store all
    clients data and provide some API interface for
    clients through reception to manage it
    (add/get/delete and so on).Session bean that will use entity beans or hibernate to work with persistant data.
    3. Processor. Some sort of dummy-sophisticated
    module.Use a message driven bean. Make Reception to enqueue a message when new data is available for processing. Processor will process the data and store the resut in database using Data Storage session bean.
    4. Manager. This part will always check data
    storage for new data and processor for
    availability. When processor and new data are
    available manager will make an order for
    processor to take new data from data storage and
    process it.It's redundand component, because application server will manage messages and processors.

  • Performance questions in Oracle Forms/Reports of Application Server 10g

    Hello.
    I have a dual Xeon 2.6 computer with 3 GB of memory and 6 GB of cache, running RedHat EL 3 with Oracle AS 10g (9.0.4.0.0).
    Application Server is used to run some applications created with forms, and it generates several reports, but the forms are also used as a front end to another Oracle Database (Oracle 7.0, runing in Sun Solaris 5.6).
    I've notested (and also my users) the application is getting very slow (is running in a dual Xeon, with 2 Gbit nics, in a 3 Gb backbone).
    The speed (or lack of it) is most noted when the forms are generating the reports (it used to be fast - 2 seconds) and now it can take up to 5 minutes.
    The AS 10g, when generating the reports, almost all of the querys go to the other server (in Solaris) and the results return to the server, and then the report is generated. The network has no problems (at least, that i know of), and the network performance is not an issue - both the servers are connected to a Gbit switch.
    Can someone may have an ideia of it can be?
    even in the clients, when running the forms application, the transition of the several menus is slow, and it used to be more fast.
    the 10g is using Java Jinitiator 1.3.18. Can it be from that ? i'm not certain, but i could say this things start happen when we upgraded the jinitiator from 1.3.13 to 1.3.18...
    My users are really getting on my nervers and i cant do nothing, because they have reason...
    any help would be appreciated !
    Cheers
    Bruno Santos

    Bruno, did you solve the performance problem? I'm experiencing the same lack of speed.

  • Application Server 10g Resilancy Question

    I am new to Oracle Application Server and have been reading up on 10g Application server.
    I have to servers that I intend to install Oracle Application Server 10g on, for HTTP and Oracle Forms.
    For High availability, I would like to cluster (not hardware clustering) these to allow both the servers to be active/active resilancy. With this in mind is it possible to join both seperate instances of Application Server to a farm and those cluster those for forms and HTTP use, without the use of a load balancer or web cache?
    I realise I could use web cache in front of the middle tier Application Servers, but I would then need two further pieces of hardware to provide web cache resilancy.
    I would appreciate and welcome advice and anyones own expiercence on this.

    You can run the webcache on the same server as the application server. Loadbalancing in webcache is very easy, and it does not use a lot of resources on your machine.

  • [Question:] Performance issue while deploying on Application Server

    Oracle Application server 10G release 3 is used on which Jheadstart built application need to be deployed. but when its deployed it get very slow.
    What are the things i need to check so that it can speed up . like disabling any Debugging messages, log, or other particular messages which can increase performance.

    If you are getting "running_without_metadata"  this means the Agentry server did not load any application on start up.
    1) In your Agentry.ini in the [Configuration] section what is developmentServer set to?
    2) Depending on the value is where the Agentry Server looks for the application logic in the following locations:
    Set to" True"
    C:\SAP\MobilePlatform\Servers\UnwiredServer\Repository\Agentry\default\com.sap.agentry.wm53\Application\Development\
    Set to false:
    C:\SAP\MobilePlatform\Servers\UnwiredServer\Repository\Agentry\default\com.sap.agentry.wm53\Application\Production
    In the above folder does it contain your application logic?
