Application Startup

Does anybody have an example to startup a deployed application
automatically? For example when your backup is completed at night and want the
application to be ready for use. I know that it starts up automatically when
the first user
tries to use the applications but it can take up to 5 minutes because we have 6
partitions across 2 servers.
thanks

kaThere are a couple of ways you can do this Kamran:
1) Run escript daily from a cron or schedular and source in a script file.
( using the -i option )
In your script file should look something like this:
CommentOn
WaitForEnvMgr
ExitIfNoEnvMgr
FindSubAgent xxx
Startup
Exit
The CommentOn command will log your script commands as they are executed
to stdout.
The WaitForEnvMgr will not start executing escript commands till the
environmanager is up and ExitIfNoEnvMgr will terminate your script
if there is an error communicating with the environment manager. This
will allow your calling shell to recognize an error.
2) The other way is to run ftexec daily from a cron or scheduler to start up
the server partitions:
ftexec -fi <image repository> -ftsrv 0
The <image repository> is the C-tree server *.idx and *.dat files
found under the $FORTE_ROOT/userapp tree. The "-ftsrv 0" will run
the server mutli-threaded only.
Hope This Helps

    Well, looks like a bug in Yosemite. You might wanan read the pertinent announcements, anyway. At this point Adobe apps are not compatible with OSX 10.10.

  • Execute logic at application startup

    Hi, I was previously using a servlet init method to write a JMS message to a queue. Since then, I've found that the FacesServlet is final and can't be extended. I know I have an application scope managed bean. Where is the recommended place to put application startup logic in a java server faces web application? I have an MDB reading the queue.
    The logic should be executed at deploy/startup to the app server, before any user has accessed the web app.

    What I am looking for is how to call a method in my application scope bean, after all the setters have been called.
    I have the faces context initializing the beans variables (using the xml file as you indicate). I need a way after all this is done to call an init method or something in my bean to have it do some work before the faces application context makes it available for/to my pages.
    I cannot use the constructor because the setters have not been called yet. I cannot do it in a setter because the order of the setter calls is unknown. I need all the setters to be called based on the values I specify in the faces-config.xml and when that completes be able to call a method in the bean to say go set yourself up and get ready for faces to begin calling into your methods.
    The spring framework (just one I looked at) has the concept of an xml entry that allows you to specify a method name to call after all the setters have been called and perform any pre startup code you need. I would also like to be able to have a destroy type call in to method prior to the application going away.
    I do not know how to do this using the servlet context or if there is some other way to perform this function.
    Thanks,
    Tony

  • Slow system and application startup times

    Hi,
    I've got a 17" Macook Pro (Early 2011) 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 - ever since I bought it I feel like it runs a little slow.
    I've been a long-time mac used but I feel a little disappointed with this machine.
    e.g.: Startup time takes around 4 minutes.
    Applications take around 10 seconds to start.
    Chrome sometimes takes 5-10 seconds to start, about the same to quit.
    My Xbench scores fluctuate wildly - best I've ever got is 220, worst is 18. 160 is about the average.

    It runs well most of the time but frustratingly slow sometimes and there doesn't seem to be any anomalous activity in activity monitor. I feel that it could be the hard disk, but don't know (I always have 250-350gb free).

  • System/Application startup causes error -2147220712 (and others)

    I have a developed a .NET logging application (in C#) using DAQmx and an NI USB-6210 board all running under XP Pro. All works fine when the application is launched after the host PC system has been running for some time.
    I have now put a shortcut to the application in the Startup folder so that it is launched as part of the system boot (The system is set to run the account containing the Startup folder immediately on boot). I now get the following error message.
    NationalInstruments.DAQmx.DaqException: (Hex 0x80040318) Internal error: The client has failed to connect to the configuration server, possibly because the server is too busy or has run into a communication error. Please note the steps you performed that led to this error and contact technical support.

       at NationalInstruments.DAQmx.DaqSystem.get_Devices()
    i.e. it fails at the first DAQ call in the application at the statement
                     string[] devices = Daqsystem.Local.Devices;
    that I'm using to determine if the hardware device I want to use exists on the system.
    My guess is what is happening is that my application is starting before the NI configuration server and the other underpinnings of the DAQmx interface have completed their startup activity.
    I also have to insert waits of several seconds  AFTER this call succeeds , i.e after the device I want appears in the return string from the call before I can execute calls like
                    myTask.AddGlobalChannel(cD.globalChannelName);
    to prevent 'resource not available' type errors from this call. Even after the device name is returned there are clearly other startup activites going on.
    I suppose I could catch each DAQmx call exception, wait and retry until I get success all the way though this configuration stage of my application, or put a big 'worst case' delay in at the start to allow the NI code to do what it has to do, but that's a kludge at best.
    Is there any other coding mechanism or call that I can use from my application that indicates that DAQmx and all its underpinning NI code is up and running and ready for use?
    Regards,
    Malcolm Sharp

    I am having a similar issue, however, waiting for 15 mintues before starting the program with a try/catch loop does not solve the problem. I am using four computers to test the issue with windows 7: a laptop running x64, laptop running x86, desktop running x64, desktop running x86. All computers are executing the exact same build of the application, and all have the most current version of Daqmx installed. Both of the desktops don't have the issue, but both of the laptops cannot find connected devices (I am only using a USB-6008), and the following exceptions are being thrown:

     Also, I have noticed that both National Instruments software, as well as the application I am building require internet access permission by my firewall in order to find the devices. I have tried both enabling access for all National Instruments software and my application, as well as disabling the firewall altogether, both to no avail. On top of the present exception issue, is there any way to prevent the daqmx driver from requiring internet access by a firewall in case a user disables access and cannot figure out the cause of the problem?
    Thank you,

  • Automating oracle applications startup and shutdown

    can some one share as to how we can start and stop oracle application automatically in linux

    Check the following thread:

  • Timeout during application startup

    Hi,
              I am using WebLogic Server 9.1. I have a web module (web2.4) deployed and there is some time-consuming initialization in ServletContextListener.contextInitialized(..) method.
              The code requires about 7-8 minutes to finish and meanwhile, the module startup times out which show up as a failure status in the table of deployments (in WL console) and the web module is not accessible.
              Is there a way how to workaround this, e.g. by setting a timeout for the application/module startup or moving the code to another place (but it must be executed prior users can access the application) ?
              Thank you for any ideas.

    Hi JanGLi,
    The ODI Agent is completely failing to start here from the error that you initially pasted so agent tests are not going to work wherever you try them. Port 6550 should have something listening on it as that's the port that the FDMEE managed server listens on so that would only prove that the FDMEE managed server is up. I can't see the connection closed error having anything to do with running out of connections in the connection pool either as it's simply a message saying that a connection was closed (not that the connection pool is exhausted).
    On the plus side though I have seen the 'Servlet: "AgentServlet" failed to preload on startup in Web application: "oraclediagent"' error in the past (I get a lot of the really nice issues coming my way). Which operating system are you using here? I've seen this happen on Windows when there are multiple network interfaces and an incorrect interface has been put to the top of the bind order (e.g. an interface that has fallen back to a link local address in the 169.254.0.0/16 range as DHCP has failed).

  • Optimizing application startup or why have the head of the need to mov

    Some stupid questions
    When i start konqueror or firefox, i often hear that my hd move its head.
    Why it has to do this. Is there a way to place the needed files which firefox
    or konqueror load at startup in a linear fashion so that the hd only reads linear?
    Like some disk optimizing process and maybe placing the files at the outer end of
    the hd to increase read speed.
    Question is if the appllication really read the same files at every startup or not.
    I know that this is mostly noexistend at flash storage but at harddsik level head movement
    should be avoided or i am wrong here. It als has the possible benefit of decreasing startup time.
    So has anybody more knowledge or thought about this before and had no success. That would be
    interesting to know.
    Thanks for your answers.

    @11010010110
    Yes you are right, i did not thought about the configs and their location.
    Yes i know about the ms tool and if i remember right there was also a 3rdparty application.
    @czar
    No not quite , my thoughts were more the following head movement not only the head
    movement from `is` to `should`.
    After thinking about the cache , i have some questions.
    When i use my computer i have most of the time the same applications i would start.
    So how can i load applications before, to get them into cache. Is there even a possibillity
    to write directly to the cache. Another interesting thing about this is: What is the cache? Is it
    protected memory (maybe kernel-memory) or is it user-memory. How does the cache know if
    i start the apllication again , that it is the same file in the cache (md5 :-) ). What is the rule of the
    cache ,how does it handle its memory if it is full, does it delete the first used application or does
    it look for the running programs which are unlikely to start again (because they are running now).
    What about the security? If a attacker could reach root and then use the cache to insert his code as a
    regulary started apllication like cron, he could has a very nondetectable change od the system which
    is gone after reboot. This thoughts gets me more interested in the cache.
    So how can i get the application into cache. Gnome, bash and .xinitrc have the ability to start programs.
    Maybe there is a parameter to load the applications stealth/quiet. But i really don`t want to have the
    applications start i want them only in cache, maybe some application starts with big harddisk or cpu usage,
    That would result in a less responsive system. I don`t like that. So i thought, what about loading the
    application and then directly afterwards kill it. Now it should be in the cache or i am wrong here.
    What do think about that and what can you tell me about the cache
    Oh i got something other to ask does anybody know what is the reading speed difference of
    the inner side of the hd plate and the outer side, with constant rotation speed?
    Thanks for your answers.

  • Can't disable application startup.  Not in sys prefs!

    Hi all, I've tried to find this but can't find it anywhere in the forums. I have an obscure mini-app (called Walk-and-talk) that auto starts upon login/startup. It DOES NOT appear in the startup menu in my sys prefs/user account. I use this app once every 2 months. I DO NOT want the thing in the menu bar (which is where it appears) or even sucking a remote amount of cpu/memory. Some of it's files appear in a few startup folders in my user account but it gets complicated (for me) and when I try to delete those files they seem to just reappear again. There are no preferences in the app that help me and no info about it in the user manuals. Any help for me on how to get this thing to only start when I click on the app??

    It depends. If there is an application/script within the application which is solely responsible for auto start up, say, you could disable that and still start the application. Otherwise, disabling the application will disable it altogether.
    What the commands above do is disable the "execute bit" for all users on "/Applications/SMART Board Software/SMARTBoard Service". I don't know what the equivalent would be for your application or what the effect of doing this would be. Essentially, though, having done this, "/Applications/SMART Board Software/SMARTBoard Service" cannot be launched. Whether that prevents "/Applications/SMART Board Software" from being launched depends on the details.
    You can always re-enable the "execute bit" but that would obviously require a similar operation in reverse every time you wanted to enable it and a repeat operation to disable it afterwards.

  • How can i make my application startup faster?

    Anyone can help me?
    I'm making a GUI application for my customers, this application must be run in many old machines, which install win98,128M memory.
    The first time application start cost 15sec(5 sec before start to load class),My customer say "can't stand for it ", because they use VC version beforetime. :-(
    The second time start, it cost 6.5sec(1sec before start to load class), My customer say "that's ok".
    To improve, i make a monitor tool, which use swing lib and some of my own libs, the monitor startup with the win98, and runing as a service. Now the application's first start only cost 6.5sec, just like the second time start.
    But new problem come: After i do many operation which cost many memory(start a msoffice word, many copy/paste, and close the word), my application start time cost 17 sec! 6 sec before load class!
    What can i do now?
    Thanks in advance,
    luochangtao

    (windows98 128M)
    the first time:
    total 15sec
    5sec before inter my first class, and about 6sec for first swing window, the other is for load my resources.
    the second time:
    total 6sec
    0sec before inter my first class, 2sec for first swing window. the other is for load my resources.
    I think i have do enough for my app, but if the first time after system startup, or user do many operation's which cost many memory before second time start, it cost 15sec, and about 5sec form click the batchfile to inter my first class.
    i think windows 's catch mechanism is important, but i don't know how to keep that catch.
    is it possible?

  • JProgressBar at application startup

    Hello all,
    I was wondering on what is the best approach for implementing/showing a progressbar during the startup of my application and after it finishes, my application displays on screen.
    Currently, I have a splash screen and because of the layers of panels, etc. I have... it takes a few seconds for it to render and appear on my monitor.
    So.. how or what should I do to inform the user that it is starting up but its just taking a bit of time to render first and that nothing is wrong with the program.
    Any ideas?
    Chris

    Hello tobysaville,
    Thank you for your feedback.
    My main concern is how do I figure out how to have my progressbar calculate the time it take for my application, windows, panels, etc. to load so that a user will know that its busy drawing it at the moment.
    I understand how to set the max/min amounts but how do I time it so that when the progressbar closes or is disposed, the application is displayed?
    thanks,
    Chris

  • Strange Long ParNewGC Pauses During Application Startup

    Recently we started seeing long ParNewGC pauses when starting up Kafka that were causing session timeouts:

    After much investigation I found that the trigger was the allocation of a 500M static object early in the startup code.  It of course makes no sense that a single large static object in Old memory would impact ParNew collections, but, it does seem to.  I have created a bug report, but, it is still under investigation.
    I have reproduced the problem with a simple application on several Linux platforms including an EC2 instance and the following JREs:
    OpenJDK: 6, 7, and 8
    Oracle: 7 and 8
    Oracle 6 does not seem to have an issue.  All the ParNewGC times are small.
    Here is the simple program that demonstrates the issue:
    import java.util.ArrayList;
    public class LongParNewPause {
       static byte[] bigStaticObject;
       public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
       int bigObjSize = args.length > 0 ? Integer.parseInt(args[0]) : 524288000;
       int littleObjSize = args.length > 1 ? Integer.parseInt(args[1]) : 100;
       int saveFraction  = args.length > 2 ? Integer.parseInt(args[2]) : 10;
       bigStaticObject = new byte[bigObjSize];
      ArrayList<byte[]> holder = new ArrayList<byte[]>();
       int i = 0;
       while (true) {
       byte[] local = new byte[littleObjSize];
       if (i++ % saveFraction == 0) {
      holder.add(local);
    I run it with the following options:
    -verbose:gc -XX:+PrintGCTimeStamps -XX:+PrintGCDetails -XX:+UseParNewGC -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -Xmx2G -Xms2G
    Note that I have not seen the issue with 1G heaps.  4G heaps exhibit the issue (as do heaps as small as 1.2G)
    Here is the output:

    Even stranger is the fact that the problem seems to be limited to objects in the range of about 480M to 512M.  Specifically:
    [503316465,536870384]
    Values outside this range appear to be OK.  Anyone have any thoughts?  Can you reproduce the issue on your machine?

    I have started a discussion on this issue on the hotspot-gc-dev list:
    Strange Long ParNew GC Pauses (Sample Code Included)
    One of the engineers on that list was able to reproduce the issue and there is some discussion there about what might be going on.  I am a GC novice, but, am of the opinion that there is a bug to be found in the ParNew GC code introduced in Java 7.
    Here is a more frightening example.  The ParNew GCs keeping getting longer and longer - it never stabilized like the previous example I sent did.  I killed the process once the ParNew GC times reached almost 1 minute each.
