Apps that became iOS 4-only are deleting previous app copies from phone

I've noticed that newer versions of apps that became iOS-4-only have been causing the previous iOS 3.1.x compatible version of the app to be deleted from the iPhone when syncing. I assume this is because the newer version of the app is not backwards compatible with iOS 3.1.x, so iTunes tries to replace the app on the phone with nothing, thereby deleting it.
Is there a way to prevent this? An example of this behavior is iPassword Pro 3.1.1 to 3.5 on an iPhone with OS 3.1.2.

got my apps back!! while my ipad was plugged into itunes i clicked on my device, selected the Apps tab. It listed the 5 pages of apps I should have on my ipad. I moved the last app i actually had currently on the ipad to the bottom of the last page of what I should have had on the ipad. I applied it, it went thru a Sync and they are all back on now hope it helps you!

I'm not sure if deletions are synched as are new messages - I don't use iCloud for mail myself - but it might. Someone else here might know for sure, or you can ask in the iCloud forum.
For other email providers, it's always been the case the if your email account is IMAP or Exchange, mail deletions appear on all devices since they're all just looking at the same database of messages on the email server.

If photos are deleted after 30 days from icloud, why doesn't my available storage increase if I have had "backup device" turned off for more than 30 days.

That refers to photo stream photos, which don't count against your iCloud storage. They also aren't contained in the iCloud backup; only camera roll photos are, which are not deleted after 30 days. They stay on your device until you delete them.

The album downloaded except one song. It says purchased rather than play and there is no option to try and download the one song that had an error. I deleted the song name from our library, but it still won't let me download. Any advice?

I have lost my photos, safari and camera. My grandson somehow delete camera and safari from phone and when I restored the photo's disappeared. Can anyone help me?

My grandson deleted Safari and camera from my iphone. When trying to restore the icons it deleted all my photos from phone. On top of this the computer I always used crashed and unable to recover them from there. I think I might have saved the them on the icloud but have no clue how to restore from there. Please some one help me!

You can't delete Safari and Camera - the most you can do is to move the icons to a differents screen.
If you have a backup of your iPhone, you can do a Restore from Backup. If you didn't have a backup, I'm afraid they're gone.
For the future:
Alway always always keep a backup, on iTunes (my prefernce) or in iCloud (more convenient for some). There is always a risk to anything that's only on the ihone

iPhoto has an option to import only new photos from an iPhone, and then an option to delete all previously imported photos from a connected iPhone after an import session. In this way, I could avoid having duplicate photos in iPhoto, and also remove all photos from my iPhone photo roll, including any that had come into iPhoto via Photo Stream.
This functionality seems to be gone in Photos, which in my opinion is a huge step back.

I believe the architecture behind Photos and the iCloud photo library is that you'll have a unified photo library across all your devices, and that you can manage your library from any device linked to iCloud. So the answer is, you cannot import images to iCloud and then delete them from your camera roll, doing so would delete them from the iCloud photo library.
In the iCloud Settings on your iPhone, you can set up iCloud to optimize storage for your iPhone. That is, you'll have smaller sized images stored on your device to view. If you wish to edit an image, the full-sized image will be downloaded from iCloud. I believe Favorites are stored as full-sized images at all times.
If this isn't the behavior you desire, you'll have to disable iCloud photos and use an alternative cloud storage setup such as Dropbox. I wouldn't link the Camera app to Dropbox, instead I'd use Image Capture to import the images from your phone to the Dropbox photos folder, then delete the images from the iPhone if that's your wish. It may be possible to do something similar with Flickr. They have a Mac app that will automatically upload new images from a source you select. So again you'd use Image Capture to import your photos from you iPhone to a folder you designate on your Mac. Once in the Flickr cloud, they're not linked to anything on your Mac. If you delete them from your Mac, they remain in Flickr.

I use IMAP e-mail, so all none deleted e-mails stay on the server and are accessable from anywhere.
I have realised that I can't delete e-mail headers from the phone (I only want the last 7 days or so) . The delete options are: delete from Server and Phone, delete from phone - header remains.
This means that I am building a huge list of headers and will be useing memory.
Anyone found a way around this?

Nokia email client is not supported for my device (7610).
Also, it seems, there is no way to delete the headers selectively. Normally, when you want to handle the emails through your mobile device, you want to keep only important ones and delete the rest. So, possibly, Nokia can consider this for the future updates of the software, where user can delete the headers selectively to keep the inbox uncluttered and only as per the requirement.

On the support pages, there's only instructions to permanently remove songs from the ICloud or Itunes, and it says once you do it, they can't be recovered. I would like to so precisely that with some hideous purchases that keep showing up on my phone as downloadable from the Icloud even when I "hid" those purchases, and it annoyes me since I don't want to listen to those songs ever again in my life. Can somebody help me please? Let's remember the main issue here is that I'm not subscribed to Itunes match, and I don't want to subscribe to it. Is there any way to permanently delete those songs from my account without having to subscribe to Itunes match? Thank you.

Apps disappearing from phone???

HI,
We were getting ready to go to dinner and I wanted to check a Groupon on my Groupon app when i noticed it missing from my phone.
I then noticed 3 or 4 other apps were missing. I went to itunes and they were all there, even showing on my phone. I tried for an hour to get them to work. They were showing downloaded and on my phone... but they were missing? Groupons, Pandora, Target, Walgreens... maybe more but those are the apps I remember. Any ideas? Thanks... Bama

if you are talking about folders on my phone, no... I don't have any folders on the screen? could they be hiding someplace else.
I can't find them when I'm doing a spotlight search...

My computer's hard drive crashed and now that its fixed (my computer) I want to download previously purchased songs from Itunes. When I'm signed into Itunes and attempt to download from the cloud a text box pops up saying "I need to authorize the computer before I can download previous purchases". I'm using the same computer that I purchased all previous songs. So how do I authorize my computer?

and from the Menu Bar select Store...
From the Store menu, choose Authorize This Computer.
(In earlier versions of iTunes, access this option from the Advanced menu).
When prompted, enter your Apple ID and password, then click Authorize.

You should download all of your photos to your MAC/PC. The copies on your ipad are probably the ones in photo stream and they are not the full resolution originals. They will also gradually be replaced as photo stream only keeps last 1000 photos taken.
Download the photos, then erase them from your phone. And while you're at it, make a full backup of your phone in iTunes before doing your update. And then do the update through iTunes.

Software update deleted close to EVRYTHING from phone?

I installed the recent update on Sunday, and when my phone rebooted i noticed my lock screen was different. Upon unlocking my phone i saw that all of my screens were blank - no clock, no widgets, no apps...nothing. I immediately go to my messages inbox and see the same...nothing. Close to panic mode, i check my contacts...nothing. I ran the backup assistant to retrieve contacts, but even then not all came through for me. I had several VERY important "locked" messages that were also deleted and cannot be restored. Even my saved voicemails are gone. The even stranger part is that the majority of my downloaded aps. survived, but have been acting funny ever since. All of my settings are gone too, and I am having to start at square one for just about everything!
I know that this info is gone and never coming back, but what caused this to happen? Im fearful of relying on my phone to do what it is SUPPOSED to do in case this happens again. Several hours have been wasted already trying to gather the info needed from my messages & voicemails from people, i can not afford to keep a phone that doesnt work the way it was promised and the reason why i purchased in the first place, nor can i sit around crossing my fingers that this doesnt happen again. Any ideas or input to how this happened and how I can prevent it from happening again?

I also recently lost ALL my contacts and ALL of my messages!!! I have ran back up assistant numerous time and it downloaded only half of the T's, V's, W's and Z contacts I had. I go to the Backup Assistant website and it show I have 329 contacts and that they all have been synced to my phone. I spent 25 minutes on the phone with Tech support only for him to put me on hold ALOT and tell me he has no idea what to do to fix it!!! I am so frustrated!!!!!! Any and ALL help will be tried and appreciated!!! Soon.......
