Appserver 8 and login/authentication from a standalone client

hello,
after searching for examples which show how to connect to the appserver 8 i came up with this code which doesn't fucntion... does someone have any idea how to get this code to work? i want to get the protected MEJB object an have to authenticate the client to the server, but this part fails.

The MEJB is configured to permit only users in the asadmin group to execute its methods. You must login as a user in the asadmin group before trying to use the MEJB. See: http://docs.sun.com/source/819-0079/dgsecure.html#wp22278
here is an code example:
// Authentication
ProgrammaticLogin pl = new ProgrammaticLogin();
Boolean success = pl.login("j2ee","j2ee");
// Use the MEJB

Nabil -
Your standalone client needs to obtain certain server-dependent properties. You can provide them in your code or grab them via a properties file.
For Orion - you need essentially the following setup, filling in your own information...
Define your standalone client class with "main" etc (this is orion specific - should work for 9i AS as well - perhaps there are some differences)
public class SomeClass {
try {
Properties p = new Properties();
p.setProperty("java.naming.factory.initial",
"com.evermind.server.ApplicationClientInitialContextFactory");
p.setProperty("java.naming.security.principal","server_admin_name");
p.setProperty("java.naming.security.credentials","server_password");
// THEN you can get your intitial context reference
InitialContext initial = new InitialContext (p);...........
Then go about your business.....
A good book to get is called "Professional Java Server Programming J2EE Edition" - there happens to be a reasonable amount of Orion/OCJ4 centric information since one of the authors is Karl Avedal - one of the principals behind Orion. Go out to java.sun.com and look at some of the J2EE tutorials - unfortunately a lot of it is hidden behind the J2EE Deployer, but you will get a good sense of what goes into outside-the-container standalone clients.

• How to lookup EJBs deployed in OC4J from a standalone client application

Hello all,
I am trying to lookup an EJB deployed in OC4J 10.1.3 from a standalone client application using the following code:
Hashtable env = new Hashtable();
env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "com.evermind.server.rmi.RMIInitialContextFactory");
env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "ormi://localhost:23791");
env.put(Context.SECURITY_PRINCIPAL, "jazn.com/test");
env.put(Context.SECURITY_CREDENTIALS, "test");
Context context = new InitialContext(env);
Object ref = context.lookup("ejb/Dispatch");
I get the following error:
javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: ejb/Dispatch not found
at com.evermind.server.rmi.RMIClientContext.lookup(RMIClientContext.java:51)
at javax.naming.InitialContext.lookup(InitialContext.java:347)
For the lookup string I've also tried:
"java:comp/env/ejb/Dispatch" and "Dispatch"
For the Context.PROVIDER_URL property I've also tried:
opmn:ormi://localhost:6003:instance
The result is always the same.
I appreciate if someone could help me with this?
Thanks,
Georgi

Georgi,
Your question has been discussed many times on this forum. Search the forum archives for "RMIInitialContextFactory".
The PROVIDER_URL needs to include the name of the deployed application that your EJB is part of, for example:
env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "ormi://localhost:23791/MyApp");The lookup name has to be the value of the "ejb-name" element in your "ejb-jar.xml" descriptor file.
Your SECURITY_PRINCIPAL value looks strange to me. Personally, I use "principals" (and not JAZN), so I modified the "application.xml" file (in the "j2ee/home/config" subdirectory) to use "principals". Look for the following comment in that file:
<!-- Comment out the jazn element to use principals.
When both jazn and principals are present jazn is used -->Good Luck,
Avi.

• IPSec Certificate Authentication from Linux Strongswan client to Windows Advanced Firewall (2012)

Hi,
Has anybody had any success in getting a Linux Strongswan client (or Openswan) to connect to a win2012 Advanced Firewall using certificates and IPSec? My Security Connection Rule requires authentication both inbound and outbound. The cert is
installed correctly on the Linux box.
I can get a connection using pre-shared keys, but haven't been able to establish a Quick Mode session when using certs. I've tried (literally) hundreds of different configs without success. Event log shows either 'No Policy Configured' or 'Unknown
Authentication'.
Windows clients can connect correctly with certs. I've deliberately excluded details as the Linux config can be setup in so many different ways, i'd rather start by looking at someone elses config that works (if that actually exists).
Thanks
Mick

• URGENT: Can't connect to a MDB from a standalone application

Hi, I hope somebody can help me. I'm trying to send messages to a MDB from a standalone client, but I have problems when looking up JMS queues and connection factories. The code is the following:
try {
Hashtable env = new Hashtable();
env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "com.evermind.server.rmi.RMIInitialContextFactory");
env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "ormi://192.168.64.173:3101/PruebaAS");
env.put(Context.SECURITY_PRINCIPAL,"admin");
env.put(Context.SECURITY_CREDENTIALS, "admin");
jndiContext = new InitialContext(env);
catch (NamingException e) {
System.out.println("Can't create JNDI API" +
"Context:" + e.toString());
System.exit(1);
* Look up connection factory and queue. If either does
not exist, exit.
try {
queue = (Queue)
jndiContext.lookup("java:comp/resource/ojms/Queues/queue2");
catch (NamingException e) {
System.out.println("JNDI API lookup failed." +
e.toString());
System.exit(1);
When program tries to look up the queue, I get the message: "JNDI API lookup failed.javax.naming.NamingException: Disconnected: Unknown command: 7"
What's the meaning of "unknown command:7?? I have deployed the MDB to an Oracle 9iAS 9.0.2 using enterprise manager, and create queues in an Oracle 9i 9.2.0 Server.
Please, I need some help. Thanks in advance.

I'm no expert, but I did get something like this working. One gotcha is that you need to have an instance of the database driver, since the Oracle queues use the database. Try something like this before you attempt the JNDI lookup:
Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver");
If necessary, replace "oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver" with the appropriate driver for your environment. Good luck.

• Is there a way for java plug-in to get the browser login authentication

I have an applet that is loaded from a password protected html page. I use java plug-in with the applet.
When I try to read this page I get the browser window asking for password and username. So far so good.
Then I log in successfully and starts using the applet.
If the applet wants to access pages on the same PW protected area, I have to give the plug-in PW and UN.
My question is then:
Is there a way that java plug-in can get hold of the login information that the browser has obtained? (So that I wont have to give the same information twice)
I thought the answer would be no, but then I started experimenting with https and found out that if I use the same scenario as above, except from that I give a certificate to the browser before the first login, then the plug-in will get certificate info from the browser, and it wont promt me for UN and PW either!
When it is possible for the plug-in to obtain certificate info and login info from the browser then it should be possible just to get the login info with ordinarily http?

• Access java:comp/env from standalone client

Hi,
I am using the j2ee applicationserver from Sun.
I want to access the java:comp/env namespace from a standalone client. When I try to do this I get the following excepton:
javax.naming.NamingException: java:comp/env namespace is only available from within a J2EE component
How do I get around this?
Is it possible?
Regards
/Stefan

Thanks a lot for giving me an answer Bart,
here is another question if you have the time.
Since it is not possible to access the the java:comp/env namesapce from a standalone client, how do I access for example a "TopicConnectionFactory" from within a J2EE application when the TopicConnectionFactory is NOT in the java:comp/env namesapce?
I have made this work but I get a warning like this:
Warning : Illegal connection factory access to TopicConnectionFactory. J2EE Components should access JMS Connection Factories through a resource-ref in java:comp/env
If this isn't possible either, then how should I use for example JMS with EJB to send messages to a standalone client?
Regards
Stefan

• Getting Sun ONE Initial Context from standalone client

Hi,
I'm having problems connecting to Sun One's JNDI from a standalone client ... I've seen other topics raised with similar problems but with no real answers.
I can connect to what i think is a different JNDI resource with:
Hashtable env = new Hashtable();
env.put(javax.naming.Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY,           "com.sun.jndi.cosnaming.CNCtxFactory");
env.put("java.naming.provider.url", "iiop://localhost:3700");

I've tried to look at the documentation but with no success.
Any ideas?

• Accessing JMS from stand-alone client

I'm currently attempting to access EJBs, JMS topics and JMS queues from a swing client running on a different machine to the application server (in this case, Sun App Server 9).
I have added the following jars to the classpath: appserv-rt.jar, javaee.jar and imqjmsra.jar, as well as generated EJB stubs. I have specified the two -D options on the command line:
-Dorg.omg.CORBA.ORBInitialHost=<server>
-Dorg.omg.CORBA.ORBInitialPort=3700
I have tried adding my own jndi.properties with:
java.naming.factory.initial=com.sun.jndi.cosnaming.CNCtxFactory
java.naming.provider.url=iiop://<server>:3700
I have also tried without including a jndi.properties file and using the one supplied by the appserv-rt.jar (this causes more errors than adding my own).
I am able to lookup an EJB using the global JNDI name and successfully invoke methods on the EJB. If I use the java:comp/env context then I receive the same error as I do with the JMS issues which I'm about to describe.
When I attempt to access the JMS factories, topics and queues using both the java:comp/env and the global JNDI name I receive the following error:
javax.naming.NameNotFoundException [Root exception is org.omg.CosNaming.NamingCo
ntextPackage.NotFound: IDL:omg.org/CosNaming/NamingContext/NotFound:1.0]
at com.sun.jndi.cosnaming.ExceptionMapper.mapException(ExceptionMapper.j

at com.sun.jndi.cosnaming.CNCtx.lookup(CNCtx.java:492)
at com.sun.jndi.cosnaming.CNCtx.lookup(CNCtx.java:470)
at javax.naming.InitialContext.lookup(InitialContext.java:351)
The global JNDI name for the topic factory (for example) is jms/TopicConnectionFactory - I have tried both lookups:
InitialContext context = new InitialContext();
context.lookup("jms/TopicConnectionFactory") //lookup 1
context.lookup("java:comp/env/jms/TopicConnectionFactory") //lookup 2The factory is clearly visible in JNDI under the jms/TopicConnectionFactory when I browse the JNDI from the Sun Admin Console.
I run the application on a separate machine via the standard java.exe -jar myclient.jar (the jar's manifest has the main class and the classpath described above set)
Does anybody see anything that I could be missing to get JMS lookups to work from a thick client. As mentioned I can lookup EJBs with no problems so I am definitely connecting to the app server correctly - I figure I'm missing another jar or something like that.
I have also tried adding application-client.xml and sun-application-client.xml descriptors to myclient.jar/META-INF but that doesn't seem to work either, and when I do I don't think the descriptors are being read because I am unable to lookup the EJB with the java:comp/env JNDI reference - I still need to use the global JNDI name. I would like to use the java:comp/env but I'm not certain how I get the application client jar to load these descriptors, or does something in the appserv-rt.jar do that when it is first accessed (a little unsure of this bit).
My main concern though, even with global JNDI lookups is that the JMS lookups fail and the EJB lookups succeed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I tried again with using the jndi.properties file in the appserv-rt.jar rather than setting anything on the InitialContext. After getting past all of the NoClassDefFound errors by adding more of the app server jars onto the client classpath I managed to get something working, however with the information that was spat out on the client console while performing the lookup I'm pretty certain this isn't exactly what I want - it does work however. My concern is that the messages that are being displayed makes me think I have created my own factory locally (or something weird like that). The messages I received were:

Hello,
I have gone through couple of posts regarding this issue but couldn't get the right solution. Could you please help what exactly we are missing here.
Details:
1) we have two SQL instances on one standalone machine (Default Instance (2008 SP3) + Named Instance (SQL 2012 SP1))
2) Both instances are configured to accept SQL+ Windows authentication.
3) when we give access to our users they are getting following exception if they connect with 'windows authentication'. (For both instances)
Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication.
Note: (Being a sys + windows admin I'm able to connect both the instances from same client machine without
any issues)
4) Also, we observed following error in windows application event log,
SSPI handshake failed with error code 0x8009030c, state 14 while establishing a connection with integrated security; the connection has been closed. Reason: AcceptSecurityContext failed. The Windows error code indicates the cause of failure.
The logon attempt failed [CLIENT: 192.168.xxx.xyx]
5) If we create SQL login it is working fine without any issues.
Could someone guide/help me identifying and fixing this issue.
Thank you

Hello,
Are those Windows Logins associated to domain Windows accounts? Windows Logins work for domain accounts and local Windows account created on the server where the SQL Server instance is installed (and used to login locally to the server).
Could you try to delete one of the Windows logins that fail to login , and try to recreate them?
The following resources may help:

• Error 18452 "Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication" on SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition 64-bit SP2 clustered instance

Hi there,
I have a Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise x64 SP2 cluster which has 2 SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition x64 SP2
instances.
A domain account "Domain\Login" is administrator on both physcial nodes and "sysadmin" on both SQL Server instances.
Currently both instances are running on same node.
While logging on to SQL Server instance 2 thru "Domain\Login" using "IP2,port2", I get error 18452 "Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication". This happened in the past
as well but issue resolved post insatllation of SQL Server 2008R2 SP2. This has re-occurred now. But it connects using 'SQLVirtual2\Instance2' without issue.
Same login with same rights is able to access Instance 1 on both 'SQLVirtual1\Instance1' and "IP1,port1" without any issue.
Please help resolve the issue.
Thanks,
AY

• "invalid password "on Iweb Test. and on SEO Tool, Login Failed Login Authentication Failed, ALL SETTING ARE CORRECT HELP

I have been updating my site over the last week, using Iweb SEO TOOL, but suddenly 2 days ago I can no longer update when i go to publish it says "invalid password "on Iweb Test. and on SEO Tool, Login Failed Login Authentication Failed, the password and all settings are correct.
I am 100% sure the all the setting are correct, as it has been working for the last 7 months and I have just been updating it, then suddenly it stopped, I have all the FTP settings wrote down, and even changed the passwords twice hoping that may work to no avail.

Try the following:
delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
Click to view full size
launch iWeb and try again.
If that doesn't help continue with:
move the domain file from your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
launch iWeb, create a new test site, save the new domain file and close iWeb.
go to the your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
launch iWeb and try again.

• Whats the difference between Authentication and Login check up ?

whats the difference between Authentication and Login check up ?

Authentification is a more generic term. It's generally applicable to any situation where you check that information comes from where it claims to come from.
Login is just one form of authentification.

• SQL server(PC1) --- PC2: Login failed. The login is from untrusted domain and cannot be used with windows authentification

Hey,
I'want to make connection from my laptop(xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx = A) to a fixed computer(SQL server xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx =B). My connection string = "Provider=SQLNCLI11; Data source:name-pc/SQLEXPRESS; Integrated circuit=SSPI;Intial Catalog=Database name for visual
studio C#.
Laptop -> PC1 : Eror
It works when i use localhost or 127.0.0.1 and i can read my database without any problems if i install SQL server on my laptop. Know i install it to PC1 and uninstall on my laptop. When i change the name-pc by an ip-adress i get this error: Login failed.
The login is from untrusted domain and cannot be used with windows authentification. I did some research on multiple forums where they say about Local security policy(secpol.exe) but i don't have this file.
PC2-> PC3: work fine but i want to work with my laptop and i don't understand why it isn't working with my Laptop.
Can someone help me?
Thx a lot and sry about my english(its a disaster)

Hello,
Yes, for the Windows Authentication to work you should be using the same Windows account and password.
Are you willing to create SQL logins inside SQL Server and allow your users to connect to SQL Server using SQL Authentication
instead of Windows Authentication? That could be a solution on a workgroup network.
Hope this helps.

• Help, I have my registration and login pages built but cannot get a + from Server Behaviors to connect to the phpmyAdmin databae using WAMP. Instructions are unclear.

I purchased my subscription for DW CC on the encouragement of the online salesperson because he assured me there would be support when it came to creating login process with authentication. I don't know code so build all of my pages in Design view. Not even sure that the form is correct because the terminology and references in the help directions don't match what I see in the program.
I have tried to go online and get help from YouTube but they skip too many steps for a novice to get anywhere in this case to make the connections between the database and the localhost. I was pulling weird errors but now have green checks for local host yet don't know how to verify or test the page to see if it is working.
Can anyone send me something that would be step by step detail? I need a true instructor not someone who thinks they know enough to be a teacher.

To follow up a bit more, the SB panels were removed from DW for a reason. The code is outdated and the MySql connections won't work on servers running PHP 5.5+. Learning to work with code is essential. Design View alone won't cut it.
