Arabic Chars not getting stored correctly in Oracle 9i db

Hi,
I am currently working on an Oracle 9i db that is used for storing data in a CMS. Oracle is running on a Linux box. I wish to be able to store Arabic along with English and a few other European languages. Below is output from nls_parameters
SQL> select * from nls_database_parameters;

When I enter in Arabic it gets stored in the database as the following and similar:

Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thx in advance.

Well, come on and share some more details then...

What os and character set do you have on the client side? (CMS host, if that acts as the client)
Setting of NLS_LANG?
How do you enter in Arabic?
When I enter in Arabic it gets stored in the database
as the following and similar:
A'G3 G3 G4B4D'G$How and were do you get that?

  • Arabic data not getting printed correctly

    Dear Freinds,
               I have developed a smartform where in i have to print the English Name and Arabic name one below the other .
    So to ge the ARabic letters to be get printerd i have used the Device type ARSWIN,
    i can see now the data  being displayed correctly for Arabic name in PRINT PREVIEW ,however when i take printout of the same in the printer which is assigned to my system i can see that the data is getting jumbled on the printed stationery and i can very cleary see that data which is there on Print preview is different to that printed matter , so i have checked with my Arabic collegue and he said  after reading the print preview that it is getting displayed correctly but the data in the printed output paper is not correct  .
    So  I really not able to figure out why it is displaying correctly in Print Preview and not getting this printed  on the printed stationery .  Could any one please help me out what i should do in gettign the data also correctly in the Printed data on the Stationary paper.

    Hi,
    Now i understood your problem.
    I think you are using Text Elements to print Arabic Text.
    Use Include Text instead of Text Elements.
    By using So10 you can create Standard Texts.
    Note: Create these standard texts under language key "AR".
    Hope it solve your problem.

  • We are getting ¿ stored into our Oracle 10g database  (Microsoft fault)

    We are getting ¿ stored into our Oracle 10g database that is using WE8ISO8859P1 character set.
    Problem is caused by the following:
    Microsoft released software (in particularly MS Word) before considering any ANSI or ISO standard (although they claimed so).
    At that time of pioneering graphical interface - they were the standard. Since then things changed. Microsoft initially targeted US marked, however very soon they wanted to expanded to Europe. For that they needed to get standardized character set instead of one initially being in use. Microsoft re-mapped character set in newer applications using Windows-1252 character set which is compatible with ISO-8851-1 (we are using in our Java Web applications). That cleared obstacles to forward on European market, where extended characters are necessary (like in French, Dutch, German languages...)
    What happened with the initial character codes before Microsoft agreed with ISO to standardize characters? Well - Nothing.
    So what are the consequences of that?
    If we are using Microsoft Word document in conjunction with one of the oldest character set (universe) the ice-age character mapping is still there. So when we "cut and paste" the content to another application, characters sets are not mapped anymore. Especially French language "is sensitive to this" The Microsoft character set in Word decimally coded 146 ( ' ) is very often used in French.
    Therefore if the text is generated in MS Word using old character mapping (universe) which we do, and using method of "cutting and paste" we are mismatching character set interpreted by other, newer applications.
    Initially in the MS words (apostrophe) ' had code 191; then later after implementing Windows 1252 character set being moved to code 146 in accordance to ISO. Well ISO threat character coded 191 as ¿. So if you are using MS Word universe character set, ' looks like ' but in newer applications or ISO compatible applications it looks like ¿.
    Can anyone provide me with periodically cleanup routines that replace garbled characters entered by Microsoft applications into Oracle database ?
    Thanks
    Brendon

  • Excel Charts do not get displayed correctly (colour) !urgent!

    Hi,
    believe me: I spent days in research to fix my problem but could not find a solution yet...
    I use a lot of Excel Web Parts on my SharePoint Site. Basically to display charts or tables. Everything worked fine for months but out of a sudden some of the web parts do not anymore. These Web Parts still get displayed but all in black or grey and
    because of that are partly unreadable. For example: a cell with a white font and a blue blackground just gets displayed as a black cell with black fontcolour. I thought it might depends on the settings of the server computer but other colourful charts/tables
    still work fine (but on the other hand, all new web parts do not get displayed correctly...)
    I tried to remove macros, conditional formatting, creating completely new subsites with content. But the result is always the same: black cells.
    Then I tried to just use 8bit-colours and tada: it worked (except of the colour white, that still does not work).. I do not have access to the server computer. And I am wondering because some other charts still work..
    Any ideas?
    I do not use SharePoint Designer, just the browser version of 2010.
    Thanks for your help!!!

    Here is the code:
    IANode QueryContractResultNode = wdContext.nodeA();
    IBNode ToolTipNode = wdContext.nodeToolTipNode();
    QueryContractResultNode.invalidate();
    for(int i=0; i<searchContractListSize; i++)
       IAElement newQueryContractResultEl =   QueryContractResultNode.createAElement();
    WDCopyService.copyCorresponding(getList.getOutput().getI_Detail().get(i),newQueryContractResultEl);
    IBElement newToolTipEl = ToolTipNode.createBElement();
    if(newQueryContractResultEl.getParentName().length() >= 5)
         newToolTipEl.setChildName  (newQueryContractResultEl.getParentName().substring(0,4) + "...");
    else
         newToolTipEl.setChildName (newQueryContractResultEl.getParentName());
    QueryContractResultNode.addElement(newQueryContractResultEl);
    ToolTipNode.addElement(newToolTipEl);
    Node A is bound to a model structure.  Therefore, the value of A.parentName is set after the RFC execution.

    Ravi,
    Have to check the Transport Protocol used by internal Mail Server. The parametes you pass to the mail adapter should be same to the internal mail sever where you are trying to send and also check with XIPAYLOAD option.
    If this helps to u. Allot the points please.

  • Help - french accents words not displaying/storing correctly in database

    Hello -
    I have 2 databases running in 2 different character sets.
    I am able to insert the following french accents in both databases and stored correctly also in db and displayed correctly in sql plus -
    à À Ä ä Â â é É È è Ë ë Ê ê î Î ï Ï ç Ç Û û ô æ ö « »
    But the following 2 charactes donot get displayed/stored correctly in any of the databases -
    1. For db running in UTF8 character set it stores/displays as follows -
    2. For db running in WE8ISO8859P1 character set it displays as 2 filled black squares. But when I do 'copy and paste'. It is pasteing correctly in the editor as follows -
    I have another one database running in same WE8ISO8859P1 character set , DBA out there sent me the results from sql plus for the above 2 characters and they are getting displayed as well as stored fine.
    I have the following questions -
    1. Besides database characterset what else parameters or environment variables I need to check the for these characters to be displayed/stored correctly ?
    2. Why would Databases with same characterset gives different results for the same characters ?
    3. UTF8 is superset of WE8ISO8859P1 characterset, then why in that UTF8 db is unable to store that characters
    which were able to be stored in WE8ISO8859P1 db.
    By these various results, I am very confused and not able to troubleshoot further.
    Any help would be very much appreciated...
    Thanks

    Right after DB creation using DBCA, I would expect to see the following initialization paramaters populated in /oracle/u01/app/oracle/admin/ora10g/pfile/init.ora file that match the values I specified in the template file, but it appears that some initialization parameters are either not populated or incorrectly populated.
    db_cache_size=1g
    (this parameter entry is missing, not getting popultated at all)
    sga_target=1600m
    (sga_target populated with 1211105280)
    pga_aggregate_target=1g
    (pga_aggregate_target populated with 403701760)
    shared_pool_size=128m
    (this parameter entry is missing, not getting popultated at all)
    large_pool_size=0
    (this parameter entry is missing, not getting popultated at all)
    java_pool_size=0
    (this parameter entry is missing, not getting popultated at all)
    log_buffer=64000000
    (this parameter is correctly populated)
    transactions=610
    (this parameter is correctly populated)
    recyclebin=OFF
    (this parameter entry is missing, not getting popultated at all)
    cursor_sharing=EXACT
    (this parameter is correctly populated)
    Does anyone know why some initialization parameters did not get populated or incorrectly populated into init.ora?
    Thanks in advance.
    Ken

    Likely dbca currently uses the spfile to store the parameters, as you should do too.
    Apart from that the pfile Oracle uses is located in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/init<sid>.ora
    It is possible this file is soft-linked to the file you mention.
    If it isn't the file you mention is not being used at all.

  • Could not execute stored procedure in oracle

    hello experts,
    Problem: I can not execute stored procedures stored in Oracle data base. Error Message: Portal request failed. Could not execute stored procedure.
    My steps:
    i connected my locally installed Oracle data base to the VC. I mapped the data base user to my VC user. I tested connection and it is fine. Further I see the db alias in Visual Composer and i can drop stored procedures to my story board. I can define parameters, but when I am executing procedures I get the error message.
    Further I installed MS SQL Server lokally and connected to the VC and it is working fine. I can do everything.
    Why it is not working for Oracle DB?
    DriverName: com.sap.portals.jdbc.oracle.OracleDriver
    Connect-URL: jdbc:sap:oracle://ip:port;sid=XE
    Any comment is highly appreciated.
    anton.

    Hi,
    Also you can follow this link which explains you the procedure to configure BI JDBC system for visual composer.

  • Euro symbol not displayed/stored correctly when Application Server on AIX

    Hi,
    Up till now we have an BC4J/ServiceFile/UIX application (generated with JHeadstart)running on Windows OS (Application Server and Database).
    The customer has decided to move the Application Server (10g) to an AIX machine.
    When testing the application we find:
    1) Euro symbol (€) is displayed en stored correctly when stored in varchar2 db-columns
    2) The Euro symbol is not stored correctly when stored within a CLOB db-column AND when the AS runs on an AIX.
    When the Application Server runs on a Windows-platform the euro symbol is displayed and stored correctly.
    Our first guess was some NLS_LANG configuration problems on the AIX-machine. We tried however to set the NLS-LANG to "DUTCH_THE NETHERLANDS.WE8MSWIN1252". This had no visible effect.
    Are there other (if any) NLS-settings which influence the way the CLOB-columns are dealt with?
    When connecting to the same database from a Windows-Application Server no problems occur, thus showing that the problem is AS/OS specific.....
    Our guess is that is related to BC4J and how BC4J communicates with the database.
    Is this problem a known bug/issue?
    Any ideas how to solve this problem?
    We are using JDeveloper 9.0.3.1 (build 1107), Business Components Version is 9.0.3.10.62
    Thanks,
    Anthonie

    Sorry, I'm having difficulty understanding what's happening here. Let me see if I get it.
    You have an application that stores the euro symbol in a CLOB. When the server that handles this application is on AIX, the euro is not properly displayed in the client. When the server is on Windows, it displays properly.
    Is that the issue? If so, it could be a number of things, but it's probably related to the character set differences between the two database servers.
    Have you been able to reproduce this without using Business Components?
