Archivelog recover scenario - keep prod test in sync

geeks and gurus...
I am testing this db sync scenario and wanted some suggestion on best way to keep prod-test in sync by applying archivelog and using catalog
db:11gr2
OS: linux
day-1:
1. expdp - impdp prod catalog into new testdb
2. Restore and recover (dbf, logfile, ctrlfile, archfile) connecting catalog on testdb
3. don't open testdb database
more archive logs generated on prod and it gets registered in ctrl file and prod catalog
day-2: task to restore - recover all generated archivelog on prod to testdb
1. expdp - impdp prod catalog again into testdb
2. restore - recover newly created arch files which are registered in day-2 catalog
Q.
1. now my confusion is how to restore & recover all new arch files created from day1-2... bkp and archivelog file location is registered in catalog
2. how to find what all arch files are required for recovery from catalog?
3. how to tell rman on testdb to recover database until max log sequence from new day-2 catalog?
I am thinking something like below to use till it gets last available log sequence;
run {
restore archivelog;
recover archivelog;
}or can I directly recover database until max logseq by connecting catalog?
rman catalog@testdb target /
RMAN> recover database until logseq 12345 thread 1;logseq to get from v$log_history...but not sure from prod or testdb I should get max(sequence#) ?
thanks

thank you hemant..
as usual your explanation is very helpful and always makes sense...so I changed my testing procedure little bit inorder to keep different version of catalog...
Now I am using catalog exp from prod and impdp into xyzdb and using that on day-1 and again expdp-impdp catalog-2 on day-2 into xyzdb
backup: level-0 backup runs everyday...
day-1:
1. expdp - impdp prod catalog as catalog-1 into xyzdb
2. Restore and recover files on testdb (dbf, logfile, ctrlfile, archfile) connecting catalog-1@xyzdb
3. don't open testdb database
more archive logs generated on prod and it gets registered in ctrl file and prod catalog
day-2: task to restore - recover all generated archivelog on prod to testdb
1. expdp - impdp prod catalog again into xyzdb as catalog-2
2. restore all arch files on testdb
      rman connect catalog-2@xyzdb target /
RMAN> restore archivelog until sequence 123456
     3. recover database
    rman connect catalog-??@xyzdb target /
    RECOVER DATABASE until sequence 123456
my confusion / question is:
1. on day-2 for archivelog recovery which catalog to use, is it catalog-1(original restore) or catalog-2 from day-2?
2. on day-2 if new dbf file was recreated after level-0 then will RMAN recovery manage new addition of dbf file or I have to manually create on testdb?
3. Will RMAN act differently creation of new dbf file on testdb if I connect via catalog-1 or catalog-2?
I'm basically trying to handle & understand new dbf file creation which I think will stop recovery on day-2 and have to manually add file in testdb....
I'm also testing in and let you know the result..
spell mistake..

  • Can't keep dialog track in sync when changing smpte start for bar 1.

I can't keep dialog track in sync when changing smpte start for bar 1. I have picture and dialog in sync starting at 00:59:58:00. My smpte counter matches the visual timecode in the picture. When I set  bar one to start at a particular TC number the dialog track moves with the bars. I want it to stay put, in sync with pic. I have locked the smpte position for the region but it still moves. please help!

This might be a long-shot, but check your Tempo window and see if any of the tempo events starts in the negative bar range.
Also, while you're at it, check your markers page as well.
Worst case scenario, you can insert measures in order to push all of your tracks so that they start at bar 1 again, but this is very important: if you do this, make sure that your tempo events (and markers, while you're at it) are also selected before you insert the measures. You can check this by simply opening the tempo and marker windows, and, if those events aren't selected, use CMD-A (standard command) to select them all. Then do your insert.
    Lemme know how it goes...

  • Can I keep my iPhoto library synced on 2 or more macs?

I have 3 macs that I want to keep my iPhoto libraries synced on. Two are the latest Mac minis running Maverick and one is a MBP C2D that is about 5 years old running OS 10.6 Snow Leopard. I carry the MBP when I travel. At home they are all on the same home network. My primary iPhoto library is currently around 60GB. So HDD space is not a problem. I am uncertain about the risk of doing this without causing myself problems.
Any help or recommendations would be appreciated.

Posting 2006 and 2008 threads that are very outdated is not a good idea
There is no way to "sync" iPhoto libraries
There is software that Old Toad has tested that will sync the photos which may or may not help you
You can easily manually move photos between libraries using iPhoto Library Manager with is probably the best solution

Is it possible to recover ical data lost in a sync?

Your only bet is to resotre from the Time Machine backup. However when you do this the sync process will promptly delete the calendars again, so you need to work through the slightly convoluted method detailed in this page:

All of my playlists made on my Ipod touch 3rd gen keep disappearing when I sync it to itunes. Drivng me crazy. All software up to date on both itunes and Ipod. Help please.
I tend to make my playlists right on my ipod. This did not happen for the last 2 years. Just started recently. Did get a new computer recently.

That is because you got a new computer. You can only sync all media from one syncing computer. You can sync from any computer to iPod using the manual method but that does not sync from iPod to computer.
To make this your syncing computer:

  • Keep your Firefox in Sync

    The page on this:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-set-up-firefox-sync?esab=a&s=Keep+your+Firefox+in+Sync&r=7&as=s
    is lame.
It does not state, let alone clarify, whether the sync is one way or two way.
In other words. Does this sync my primary firefox use, on my primary computer, with other devices, so that they see what I have done on my primary computer (what I want)
    OR
Does it sync what I do on either device with the other?
    OR
Can you choose which of these happens?
NOTHING of this is mentioned on the page.
AND there is no link to further information or settings.
I guess I will stick with XMarks (in which all this is clearly stated)
(To add to my disapointment here, there is no option to select to ensure being notified of responses!?)

Sorry, the Firefox Sync service isn't available for new signups for the Sync service on versions of Firefox prior to Firefox 29, the latest release. Sync is available to current users of Sync, who have older versions of Firefox for a few more months - but my guess is that by the time Firefox 33 is out and the new ESR version is completely released, that compatibility period will end. Also, all device have be using the "old" or new version of Sync; once a Firefox Account is updated to the new Sync version it won;t connect to devices still using the old Sync version.
As far as what Sync actually "synchronizes", the various types of data are user selectable per device - but overall the goal is to have all Firefox installations be a mirror of the other installations. Certain types of data sync ''(like tab and browsing history)'' is truncated on mobile devices, though.

It would appear that your archive location is full. If it is full, then try to get some more free space there by either deleting the old archives or specifying a different location.
I don't see any mention of a flash recovery area in the log message, but you may also want to confirm that you have reached your space allocated to the FRA.

  • BEx Query objects transported from Dev to Prod Test do not overwrite

    Hello,
I'm migrating BEx queries that were developed in a Dev instance and then packaged and imported into a prod test environment. The queries that already exist in qual are not overwritten with the changes, and the transport imports successfully. New queries import just fine and without issue. I'm not sure if this is a problem with how I am packaging the query for transport or some level of pre-work that is not being done in Prod test. Basis has confirmed that they are allowing re-writes when Importing.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.
    Matt

    Hi ,
Whenever we create a query in the System it generates reference ID's ( ELTUID,SELTUID,COMPUID etc) in backend.
For e.g.if you create a query in your quality system (Z_TEST) it will have a COMPUID generated for it (e.g ABCD).
Now when you create a query in Dev system (with the same technical name Z_TEST) a new COMPUID will get generated (e.g EFGH)
So when you transport Z_TEST to QUALTY ,it will create a new entry against COMPUID.thus having two instances of the same query. So best option would be to delete the old instance after transporting the new instance.
    This wil solve your problem.

Don't try to change the songs. Connect the iPod, click on the name of it, go to the Summary page and Restore it as a new device.

    Hi,
Sometimes the server is not available and you can get an error like this one. Usually it works if you try to sync later. If this doesn't work, take a look to [https://philikon.wordpress.com/2011/06/13/how-to-file-a-good-sync-bug/ this post] to learn how to report a bug.

Well, if you no longer sync contacts with iCloud, that means that anyone else using your Apple ID for iCloud will no longer have access to your contacts.

  • I have two homes and I would like to keep my iPad2 in sync with my desktops in each home. How do I do that?

I have two homes in two different staes and I spend time between the two. I would like to keep my iPad2 in sync with my desktops (PCs) in each of the homes as I travel between the two. When I try to sync with the second PC ( with my iTunes ID) it threatens to wipe out my iPad2. I just want to keep the two desktops and my iPad in sync. Please help.

Put a copy of the most current iTunes Media library onto a USB hard drive. Replace the older library with the newer one. Repeat the process when you return to the other home.
Or you can sync everything to iCloud where it is accessible anywhere you can connect via your Apple ID.
