Archivelogs aren't  deleted

My archivelogs are filling my disk!
BACKUP ARCHIVELOG ALL;
had just told me it was complete.
DELETE ARCHIVELOG UNTIL TIME 'SYSDATE - 7';
tells me "specification does not match any archive log in the recovery catalog".
It keeps killing my database. I compress the files and move them off the disk. What should I do?
P.S. I think I know the cause of the problem started because I needed NOPROMPT in the DELETE command of my script. Instead, the script died without a YES reply? My SA compressed/moved the files as a quick fix. Now, how do I recover? I tried the "crosscheck copy" command. This allowed me to run backup. But, the archivelogs just keep building.

You could use BACKUP ARCHIVELOG ALL DELETE INPUT; to automatically remove archivelogs after the backup.
CROSSCHECK only verifies the existence of backups and updates the repository. See

  • Apllied archivelogs are not deleted by RMAN

    Hi there
Perhaps someone of you had such issue before.
We have a DG enviroment where we change a size of redo (both primary and standby). After that rman stopped to delete aplllied archivelogs on standby.
Everything works fine, archivelogs on primary are backed up and deleted but they are not deleted on standby. Execution of Rman delete appplied shows that there is nothing to delete.
Crosschek goes smoothly and without error.
There is no error in alert log.
    Databases: 11gR2, 11.2.0.3.0 64 bits
Can anyone help me with it?
    Best regards

    Hi,
On primary RMAN can't delete archived logs from standby database.
You  must call delete command on  standby side.
Deletion of standby archived log is not depend deletion on primary.
Why you think, delete archivelog on priamry must be delete standby archivelog?

  • "Listened to" podcasts aren't deleting automatically

I subscribe to a couple of podcasts. I have it set up that it deletes podcasts (not the subscription) that have been listened to. It's not working. When I decided to delete individual podcasts manually, for instance the episode from Jan. 10, 2006, I noticed in iTunes that the individual postcasts aren't listed. Only the subscription. Can anyone help?

You may want to check out your Smart Playlists. I took a look at mine only to discover that the podcasts in question were in a Smart Playlist called "90's Music" which had been present as a default on my iTunes. It didn't matter that the podcasts were not within the criteria of the list. For that matter, it also appeared that my entire music library had been put on that playlist, regardless of release date. So, not so much a "Smart" playlist as a stupid one. Ultimately, I had to delete the entire playlist. (Not a big sacrifice, as this wasnt' a personal favorite playlist, nor was it a difficult one to replicate, if I choose to do so later) Now that I have removed it, the podcasts are AutoDeleting as they should.
Still no clue as to why this particular SmartPlaylist went so wonky.

  • Trash makes delete sound, no error messages, but files aren't deleted

    Hi,
After solving my Trash problem with an undeletable file, I've now got another one.
When I go to empty Trash I get the small pop-up window asking if I'm sure I want to remove all the files. I click [OK] and the Mac makes the crunchy delete noise. BUT the Trash icon doesn't go back to the empty state, and, if I open the Trash window, the files are still there.
The same happens if I use Secure Delete.
I CAN delete files if I use a program like Trash It! or go back to the Terminal and use sudo to rm the files.
I've checked file permissions on the Trash and on the whole disk - nothing is amiss. I've verified the disk - it's okay. I've also used Tech Tool to scan the disk - no problems.
I created a second account and tried to use Trash there, it seems to work properly. So I'm guessing there is something wrong with one of the settings on my own user account, but I've no idea which one.
Has anyone else seen this problem before, and, is there a solution?
    Many thanks,
    Mike.

    Hi mj
Thanks for the response. The problem's still there. Here's what happened:
    mike$ sudo rm -rf ~/.Trash
    Password:
    rm: /Users/mike/.Trash: Directory not empty
Which is odd, from my UNIX days long ago it should have just demolished those files.
I used Trash It! to empty Trash (worked fine), then went back to the Terminal.
    sudo rm -rf ~/.Trash
    rm: /Users/mike/.Trash: Directory not empty
Which is odd - it didn't prompt me for a password the second time round. Should it?
    mike$ cd .Trash
    mike$ ls -al
    total 0
    drwx------ 3 mike mike 102 Mar 26 21:30 .
    drwxrwxrwx 23 mike mike 884 Mar 26 19:35 ..
So ls thinks the directory is empty.
    I'm now VERY confused.

  • My hotmail messages aren't deleting on my mobile apple devices

I can't get my iPhone 5c or my iPad Mini to sync with my hotmail account. I can send and receive mail just fine but when I delete mail on my mobile devices it does not delete from my regular hotmail account. I checked my email the other day on the computer and had about 2 weeks worth of emails still marked as unread and had to delete over 600 off of my account. My personalized mail folders also don't show on my iPhone. Please help!!

I have Solved this issue with ios 7. All you have to do is delete your account in your iphone and ipad and then re add the account through outlook option in your iphone/ipad. this will automatically delete any emails from any where. for example, if you delete from the iphone it will delete from the main server and the ipad, and if you do it in the server it will also update your iphone and ipad.
    I hope this helps.

  • Any way to seperate duplicates so both aren't deleted

I have loaded a lot of duplicates and when you display them how can you delete just one
of the duplicate so you still have one left? ie two of the same song if you highlight or delete all
you don't have a copy left. It is further complicated by the fact that I have 16000+ dupes.

I've written a script called DeDuper which can help remove unwanted duplicates. See this  thread for background.

  • Why can't I find clips that have been disconnected? I know they aren't deleted, but have been moved. Searching the HD doesn't find them.

I opened a FCE doc that I had worked in within the last week, and found half the clips in the projects were mysteriously disconnected. I assumed I had inadvertantly moved a folder, or renamed it, so I did a search on my HD for one of the disconnect clips to locate the file. No luck! Searched another. Nothing. I KNOW the files weren't deleted. Why don't they show up in a standard finder search? Help!

I have always struggled with FCE's automatic generation of folder for certain files. I learned editing on Adobe Premiere and like the new file set up procedure better there. You choose your codec, your scratch discs, and all details associated with the project and decide where they all reside. Then (and here's the best part) it sticks with the project. You open a project from two years ago and it still remembers where captures go, renders, all of it. With FCE, you have to remember to go into System Settings and reset the scratch disks for the project, or it will use whatever was the last project's settings. Right?
Anyway, related to this annoyance, I recently found the autosaves for this project randomly sitting in another project folder. I think I just deleted it, thinking they weren't important since I still had the original, and would be doing more work on it. Could this be at the root of my problem?

  • Hey I just got a Mac book pro and have an I-phone how do you sync the mail on the computer with the mail in the phone?? I ask because once I delete the messages on the computer try aren't deleting on the phone and vice versa so I wind up reading 2x

    Any help?

You may already have one.  E-mail servers provide support for POP or IMAP, and sometimes both.  How you access the account depends on how you set it up on your device.  You'll need to check with your e-mail provider and see if they support accessing your account via IMAP.  If they do, you'll need to re-create the account on both the Mac and the iPhone to use the IMAP settings instead of the POP settings.  (Note that when you delete a POP account, all e-mail in the In box will be deleted.  Move any e-mail you don't want to lose into an "On My Mac" mailbox on the Mac beforehand.)
Also, if you have set the iPhone to sync e-mail messages in iTunes, turn that off.  You won't need that with IMAP.

  • Emails aren't deleting

I just bought an iPad2 a week ago.  I'm having problems while in email.  I will delete an email or several emails and then when I scroll back up the emails will still be there.  Also, in the middle of using email it will abruptly leave email and jump back to the home screen.  Has anyone seen this issue and what is the fix for it?  I'm using it in an weak WiFi spot.  Is that the problem?

  • Facebook messages aren't deleting!

This morning, every single Facebook message I've sent or received since 2007 "came back" and they won't delete. Initially, they do delete and then once I leave Facebook and come back, there they are again. HELP (please)!

    Do the followings in order:
Try removing the app from options>applications
Do a battery pull out, reinsert the battery after 30 secs
After a few hours install facebook (RIM) app again
    Hope this solves the issue

  • IMovie isn't autosaving my events/movies and won't let me export the file. How can I ensure my projects aren't deleted if I can't manually save?

I created a movie w/ no theme and added my raw footage to it. I edited and was ready to export but wouldn't let me share the file. When I tried to export to a file, in the "Theater" view the progress bar stayed empty and there were no files created in the target folder.
I closed iMovie (since it should auto-save my work) to try again and when I re-opened iMovie (took a couple tries, as it froze the first time I opened it) there was no movie. No trace of any of the work I had done, other than the raw imported footage.
    Two questions:
    1) Why isn't iMovie autosaving the movie?
    2) Why wasn't I able to export it?

What exactly is the error you get?
How are you attempting this copy?
There's almost certainly a way to accomplish what you want to do (probably best from the terminal possibly copying the entire user dir and fixing up permissions, etc.) but I'm not sure you will end up with the results you want.  There are plists in the preferences dir that you probably don't want to copy over (e.g., many of the com.apple.* prefererences).  And many apps also create more than just plists.  There may be stuff in Application Support, LaunchAgents, Internet Plug-Ins, etc.).  And this would be stuff you do want to copy.  Bottom line is it is not a trivial exercise which is probably why the system is slapping your hands for even attempting it

  • Retention policy vs. Archivelog deletion policy

    Environment:
Oracle EE 11.2.0.3 on Solaris 10.5
    Which policy takes precedence?
My Retention Policy is set to 'Recovery window of 8 days' and my Archivelog deletion policy is set to 'backed up 2 times to disk'.
My DAILY full backup happens at 03:00am and uses the following commands:
    backup incremental level 0 cumulative database tag 'full_daily' plus archivelog tag 'full_daily';
DELETE NOPROMPT OBSOLETE;I also have an archivelog backup that runs every 4 hours at 02:00, 06:00, 10:00, 14:00, 18:00 and 22:00 and looks like this:
    backup archivelog all tag '&1';
delete noprompt ARCHIVELOG UNTIL TIME 'SYSDATE-8';With the archivelog backup running every 4 hours the logs are getting backed up to disk the required 2 times very quickly. Much sooner than 8 days! :-)
I have a problem where the archivelog backup that runs immediately AFTER the full database backup fails due to not being able to find some older archivelog files.
In looking at V$ARCHIVED_LOG the files were dated (COMPLETION_DATE) just outside the 8 day retention window but they had a status of 'A' (Archived) instead of the 'D' (Deleted) I was expecting. When I ran a 'Crosscheck archivelog all' it changed the statuses to 'D' and the next archivelog backup ran successfully.
    What am I missing?
Should I change the archivelog deletion policy to something else? If so, what and why (just trying to understand!) ?
I am not using an FRA and have controlfile autobackup turned on.
Please let me know if you need more information. I have been scouring the docs and the 11g RMAN Oracle Press book but haven't found the trick yet!
    Thanks for any assistance!

Since you have 2 copies of ArchiveLogs in the backups and these are retained for 8 days, a "delete noprompt ARCHIVELOG UNTIL TIME 'SYSDATE-8';" is overkill. Why retain 8 days of archivelogs on disk if there are 2 copies already backed up ?
Does your full backup that begins at 3am complete before 6am ? If it goes beyond 6am, it will be deleting some files after 6am but the "backup archivelog all" at 6am will expect some archivelogs (8 days old) to be present.

  • Archivelog deletion policy  for GG

    Hi All,
We have GG on one of the database.
The archivelog is getting deleted before it is applied to GG. The archivelog needs to be restored manually to proceed GG to work properly.
This is very frequent. Now every time the archivelog needs to be restored manually.
As far is i know there is archivelog deletion policy is there for standby. which will not delete the archivelog until it is applied to standby.
Is there any policy for GG so that archivelog which is required by GG should not delete by RMAN until it is applied to GG.
    Kindly suggest.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
To ensure that RMAN retains all archive logs required by Oracle Golden Gate, when you add or register an Extract group in GGSCI with ADD EXTRACT (TRANLOG option) or REGISTER EXTRACT.
You can configure Extract to retain enough logs through RMAN for a normal recovery by using the TRANLOGOPTIONS parameter with the LOGRETENTION option set to SR.
You can read more about this feature in detail in the OGG Installation Guide on Oracle database, pages 58 & 59.

  • Delete archivelogs using RMAN

    Hi,
I usually delete archivelogs with RMAN with command as "DELETE ARCHIVELOG ALL COMPLETED BEFORE 'SYSDATE -1' if i have to clear the archivelogs to freeup space from the FRA.
My question is if i delete the archivelogs-does this deletes the records from the catalog also(I think so) if backed up to tape.In that case the catalog doesn't have info for these archives even if they are on tapes, correct?
So in case of recovery how can i restore them?
    Thanks

The RESYNC CATALOG that may be part of your backup script or implicitly executed by a Backup would synchronise from the control file to the catalog schema (repository).
I don't think that you can selectively decide what to not resync.
You can query RC_ARCHIVEDLOG (the STATUS column) in the repository and in V$ARCHIVED_LOG (which is against the controlfile)
    i) before the DELETE executed by RMAN and
ii) again after the next BACKUP which does a RESYNC to see if changes are reflected.

i have backed up all my archivelogs using the above command, but after the backup archivelogs are not deleted from its default location .ie my default archive location is '/oracle/archive' . After executing the above command, I can see all the archivelogs still available in that location. why is it so

My control_file_record_keep_time is 7 days. My understanding is that when we specify the below command,
    Rman>backup archivelog all delete all input;
rman will backup all the archive logs(one copy of each log sequece) from the archive location and then delete all the archive logs from the archive location. is it not correct?
    >
That is generally right. But that assumes that RMAN knows about these archivelogfiles. It knows about them because of entries in the controlfile. If they are nolonger present - RMAN will not know them and not Backup & delete them.
