Arrangement of photos

i realised, firstly the photos are stored according to dates and not my albume name. is there a way to change tis ? and also i set up several albumes, does it mean i can delete them from the library ?

Hi Mandy,
There is no way to change the organization of the iPhoto Library folder without dire consequences.
Two Apple kbs for you to read
Don't tamper with files in the iPhoto library folder
About the iPhoto Library folder
The albums you made within iPhoto do not really contain a duplicate of the image in the library. The info for albums is contained in a data file.
So, if you delete the images from the library, they are deleted from the library and all albums that they are in.

I actually am illiterate on the use of the finder to to view photos in folders.  I guess I will go to a class at the local Apple store for a lesson on the uses of finder .
My method of viewing my photos are through events in I photo.
1. Download  from camera or scan  in from old photos.
2  I organize photos into events by occasion, or happenings in a certain year, or a group of photos with memorabilia of a certain person from childhood and on. etc.
3.  Because Iphoto does not allow rearranging as I was able to do in my old PC with Corell,  I drag all of the photos to an " album" on the left side of sceen.
4.  I arrange photos in "order" after which I number each photo in sequence. I do this for a few of reasons.
              - if a photo is accidentally deleted I know it.  I can usually remedy this by checking my trash or
rescanning.
              - I can sort by title without complications and this holds in "album"
5.  The pictures will re arrange automatially to match the album in I photo.
6.  This worked great in I-photo 09 but now in mountain lion the pictures in events go back to "
sort by date" and will not hold "sort to Title"each time I photo is closed down.  What a nuicance it is to have to go  to view and click "title"  again and again every time Iphoto is opened.
7. Can I go back to Photo 09? .

• HT4221 I arranged my photos in order on my PC and when I synced them to my ipad they appeared in a completely different order. How can I get my folders to transfer exactly how they are on my PC?

I arranged my photos in order and in folders on my PC. When I synced them to my IPad they were in the correct folders but completely out of order. How can I get them to sync in the order they appear on my PC?.

On iOS 5 (if viewing individual photo albums on the iPad) the photo sorting order should be by filename, on iOS 4 it's date taken (from here) :
iOS 4 sorts photos by the Date Taken tag of the photos. Specifically, your device uses the pictures' EXIF tags to determine the Date Taken information. Your device will look for the following EXIF tags within your pictures:
Capture Date
Date Time Digitized
Date Time Original
Last Modified
So you will need to change their names or their dates

• How do I re-arrange the photo albums on my ipad?

how do I re-arrange the photo albums on my ipad?

The photos in an album can be arranged in iPhoto or Aperture on a Mac and when synced to the iPad. The photos should retain their order.
It is a different case for albums synced from a PC, the photos are arranged usually in alphabetical order based on the meta data embedded in the photo. To change the order you would need to alter the meta data.

Hello bendercm, try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
* On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshooting extensions and themes article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.
Thank you.

• Where does Iphoto store ratings, arrangement of photos, events, libraries?

Hi, I currently have Leopard, I was planning on doing a clean install with Snow Leopard soon. Afterwards I plan on restoring Iphoto back to the way it was. I have a 70 gb library and importing my photos, rearranging the events, photos, and libraries would take ages if I had to start from scratch. I have my whole computer backed up using Carbon Copy Cloner. My question is where does Iphoto store the ratings, manual arrangement of photos, events, libraries, etc? Thanks

iPhoto is a relational database program and everything is stored in the iPhoto library - it must be treated as a single entity - it is not possible to isolate components in it - simply drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the clone back to the pictures folder of the main computer
To test prior to doing an erase and install (the Mac does not have a "clean install") you can depress the option key and launch iPhoto and select the backup copy and test it - be sure to do an option launch and paint back to the main library afterwards

• How do I arrange my photos in the order that I want on my Ipad?

How do I arrange my photos in the order that I want on my Ipad?

Sadly, it's not possible within the iPad itself. You have to arrange the photos in iPhoto albums -- which of course assumes you're syncing it to a Mac and not a PC -- then sync to see any changes.
And worst of all, images that are only in the iPad's own "Camera Roll" album can't be rearranged at all. If you'd like to see such functionality in future versions of iOS, you should leave feedback for them at:
http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html
I know I have!

• Why is iPhoto re-arranging my photos

I spent hours arranging my photos in an album, then iPhoto re-arranges them. Why?

remember we can not see your compute and only know what you tell us
are these regular albums ro smart albums?
What connection do the albums you are sorting have with iCloud?
The sort photo menu item controls the sort in event or photo view - albums are seperate and you can sort them manually or you can right click in the album area and sort alphebeticly (there is no undo to this)

• Naming, arranging linked photos with Excel document info

Hello!
I am attempting to make a newspaper layout consisting for graduates from our local high schools. I have been provided a disc with literally hundreds of pictures. The photos in the layout need to be arranged in alphabetical order, but the file names are non-sequential numbers that are not in order. However, I have been given an Excel document that has the file name with the name of the student in the cell next to it.
Is it possible to somehow use this data in the Excel document to properly arrange the images like I need them in the layout? If it has to be done manually, that's fine, but I thought it would be worth a shot to ask. We have InDesign CS3 and CS4.
Thank you!

It's probably easier to solve this outside of InDesign.
Construct a spreadsheet with string contatenation that produces commands to rename the files. Under Windows:
RENAME 1234.JPG F4332.JPG
or under Mac OS X:
mv 1234.jpg f4332.jpg
And then save the results to a .BAT file (Windows) or a .sh file (OSX) and then execute it (filename.bat or "sh file.sh").
Then all your files are renamed and you should be able to autoplace them in InDesign.
Or you could use Data Merge.

• Change the arrangement of photos in a folder

I have a folder in which I have placed numerous jpgs to be printed and bound as a book. In one view mode I can arrange the thumbnails in the order I need them, in another view they don't show up in the same arrangement. Please explain how to secure them in place. I don't want to take the thumb drive to the printer and have them not in the correct order.
Thanks

How did you insert the photos into the pages?

• Cannot arrange Event Photos Manually??!

Hi, I cannot manage to arrange photos manually in my Events.
I can sort them by date, name... etc, but not manually. That option is in grey.
Is this a software bug or is there any reason behind this?
Many  thanks

There's a reason:
Events are organisation for those who can't really be bothered. They are automatic - based entirely on Date and Time the camera records the photos as taken.
You can move photos between Events, you can Merge Events, you can Rename them and sort them in various ways except one: You cannot manually sort in an Event as Events are all automated.
If you want to manually sort in an Event then you've outgrown Events as an organising tool. Now it's time to look at albums (Where you can manually sort) which are much more flexible than Events as an organising tool.

• How can I arrange 6 photos onto one 6x4 print in iPhoto?

I am trying to arrange 6 cropped square photos onto one 6x4 size photo so that I can print them.  I am using iPhoto 11 but I can't figure out if I can do this.  Any suggestions are appreciated.

Select the 6 photos you want to print and type Command+P.  In the print window select paper size as 4x6 borderless and click on the Custom print size.  Start with a custom print size of 1.5 x 1.5. That will give you this:
You can up the custom size a little bit at a time till you get the largest 6 photos on that one page.

• Why won't iPhoto let me arrange my photos?

I like to organise my iPhoto events in a certain way - events with family, events with various holidays, events with other interests, and these events grouped alphabetically together (eg brother, parents, sister,).  But lately iPhoto has taken to telling me that there is a problem and "fixes" it ... and the problem seems to be that it wants to arrange these event folders somewhat chronologically.  I can move them back into my organisation easily enough ... but why should I?  How can I keep it to that arrangement?
I am using OSX Yosemite
Version 10.10.2
iMac
iPhoto Version 9.6   910.29

You can sort Events manually:
If that doesn't work for you as a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import a number of photos separately to create several Events and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?

• I am making a slideshow for my nieces graduation and I would like my photos to go in order of her life but I cant arrange the photos in the order I want them to be! HELP PLEASE! i need by this friday!

I cnat find out how to arrange them manually and them play throughtout the slideshow in that order! PLEASE!

I'm sure there are various ways to do this, but here's what I would do:
. Using whatever recording software you have e.g. MediaSource, you would need to connect a microphone to the soundcard and record the text you want to add to the CD.
2. If you want, edit the text so that it contains all that you need. This depends on the final quality of the file and whether it's got mistakes in it etc. The soundcard you have might have some editing software with it, but if it doesn't you can download and install the excellent freeware http://audacity.sourceforge.net/.
3. Then you need to compile the tracks on the CD for writing, so you would add each track to whatever CD software you use and add the text you've recorded as tracks before the relevant song.
I appreciate this is a bit general, but being specific is hard without knowing what software you have.

• Arrangement of photos in Photos for Mac

Downloading my library to the new Photos for Mac resulted in the oldest photos (by date) coming out at the top and the newest at the bottom. In iPhoto it was possible, using "View>Sort Events" to organise the library by date order. Does anyone know please how to re-organise the library in Photos for Mac so that the newest photos come up at the top?

I also have a problem which I just noticed with iTunes 12.1.0.50 which I took a screen snapshot of and if I could get an email address and a reference # to track it, the problem is immediately apparent. Its not urgent so if you could send me an email back:
I am listing my songs by Album by Artist and in between
* one album (August & Everything After) by one artist (Counting Crows) and
* another album (Recovering The Satellites) by the same artist (Counting Crows),
I find a track from an entirely different album (Coral Fang) by another entirely different artist (The Distillers).
What's going on?
