Arrow pointer in appleworks 6 paint changes to pencil. How do i get the arrow pointer back?

I have never really used the program before, but it was working fine, and I have no idea why it is not working properly.
All of the following have failed:
I tried double-clicking on the arrow in case there was some 'sticky' issue.
I opened and closed the program.
I opened a new paint file.
I rebooted the mac.  I ran 'cocktail' s/w with the daily maintenance script in case there was something stuck in the buffer.
All the other items work correctly: I can add text, add circles, use the eraser, etc.
This is a good usage example of the problem:
when i add text and then click on the arrow to move it, as soon as i click in the canvas area, the pointer immediately switches to the pencil!
I am both baffled and aggravated!

Hi Peter,
The Selection Tool (Arrow) really has no use in a 'pure' paint document. Its purpose is to select frames and other objects, and Paint does not create any of those.
A Paint document consists of a sheet of 'canvas' on which you can apply a selection of colours. There is no 'text' in a Paint document, except when you are entering it. While you are still typing, it is possible to add a letter by typing it or delete a letter by pressing the delete (backspace) key. As soon as you click the mouse, though, the 'text' becomes part of the painting, a pattern of coloured dots that your eyes and brain can interpret as 'text,' and ceases to exist as a collection of actual characters.
The Selection tool doesn't work, because there's nothing for it to 'select,' and AppleWorks automatically switches to the pencil, a tool what will work in the paint environment that you entered by clicking on the canvas.
Paint's selection tools are the Marquee (the dotted rectangle about half way down the Tools Palette) and the Lasso (beside the Marquee.

Barry

  • File is huge when combined or changed to PDF, how do I get the file to a normal size to print?

Files are to large to print once they are PDF, how do I get them to a normal 8x11 size to print?

So why is it when I send these PDF files to clients they are to large for clients to print?
If I send a combined PDF file that is 3817KB, which a client has said is to large for them to print.
I send it to our office manager, she will print it, scan it back to me as a PDF, it will come
back as 375KB, the client can then print the file.
My question is, was/is there something I need to change in the process of scanning, combining files
to PDF that would create a smaller size file when done?
    Sorry for all the confusion

Sorry, I'm lost.First I thought this was about page size. But you say it isn't. You say it's about file size.  You've combined files of 494 + 441 = 935 KB, and you get 944 KB. This seems fine and you say it is fine. So what is the problem? Are you now on still a third meaning of huge, about size on screen?

  • Connot get it to accept cookies; privacy settings are re-set each time after I change them. How can I get the privacy setting to stick and accept cookies?

I need to accept cookies to log into a technical site. I clear all cookies and the history and follow the instructions for setting privacy options to "Use custom settings for history" and to accept all cookies. When I go back to try logging into the site, it still tells me cookies aren't accepted. When I go back to Options-Privacy, the setting has been changed back to "Remember history" from "Use custom settings for history". I have done this about 5 times, trying various options, closing Firefox after making the change and starting it again - nothing works. How can I get the privacy settings to stay as I set them and accept cookies?

Blocking all cookies in Safari does not work. Deleted cookies will not stay deleted. There are numerous threads on this going back years, both in these forums and elsewhere. Many claim to have submitted the issue to Apple, but I have never seen anyone post a reply.
I have seen many suggested fixes that involve finding the cookies file, some including Terminal manipulations, and none seems to work universally. I can find noplace where Apple addresses this officially with an actual Apple-approved explanation or how-to.
Bottom line, your browser's security features should do what they claim: delete cookies. When they come back without ever even visiting another page, this is clearly not working in the way a reasonable user would expect.
Bottom line, Safari does not protect users' privacy in the way it pretends to and, after so many years of this issue, it appears that Apple wants it this way.
Having spent way too much time on this, I realize the choice is between Safari which is pretty well optimized; Firefox which is a lot pokier, at least for me; and Chrome, which I assume funnels personal information directly to Google.

  • My Mozilla updated or changed not too long ago, I had to reset and now it's gone back to 9 thumbnails. How to I get the other one back?

Okay so like I said above, my Mozilla suddenly changed one day to showing a search box, and two different "favorite" tabs when I opened a new tab. After I set it up with my favorites and deleted the ones I didn't used I liked it a lot better and it was easier for my kids to use to find the websites they like. I had to reset my Firefox because I had a problem with a new blank tab opening every time I started it, when I did that it set it back to showing the nine thumbnail page. How to I get it back to the new page set-up?

You can modify the <b>browser.newtab.url</b> pref on the <b>about:config</b> page and set its value to your preferred new tab page.
You can open the <b>about:config</b> page via the location bar and you can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

  • Changed my Apple ID and my iMessages have disappeared from my iPad. How do I get the same messages back again?

I have recently changed my Apple ID (wish I didn't as it's causing nothing else but issues so far) and my iMessages have disappeared from my iPad. I have signed out / signed in with the new account but it doesn't work. How do I get to see the same messages on my iPad again as the ones on my iPhone?

Hello, see if this might be it...
I think you accidentally hit CMD+Option+8, do it again, or open System Preferencess>Universal Access>Seeing & turn Zoom OFF.

  • I have Iphone3G - my email address was changed automatically to an old address after an software upload -- how can I get the correct email back?

When I first purchased my phone in January I had an email address of [email protected] but found that the phone and comline weren't talking to each other so I set up email [email protected] and everything worked perfectly   -- calendar, e-mail, etc. Last week a message appeared on my phone instructing me to upload new software. My [email protected] for icloud was replaced my the old email address. The account was locked so I went to iforgot.apple, etc and reset it. Then I took the option to change the email and on the computer all looks correct but my phone still has my old e-mail. I've turned it off and on hoping the new info would be loaded but no luck. Any ideas?

I kind of agree with Philly on this one.  If you get a new email address, there is no need to establish an entirely new account to use that address.  You just need to modify your account to show the new email address.  This way all your purchase history and rights to purchased apps stays in place.  Creating a new iTunes/Apple account each time your email address changes really doesn't make sense in my opinion.   I only point this out for future searchers who end up on this thread.

  • How can i get the downloads window back? i hate the add-on thing at the top right. can i change this?

I liked how FireFox used to have a downloads window when I would download. But, now its like som sort of add-on, it's at the top right and I dont like it very well. Can I get the window back somehow? Thanks, Lego893.

There is a way, but it may not be supported for ever... If you want the old download manager back, go to about:config, click the I'll be careful, I promise! button. Then search for "download", and set the browser.download.useToolkitUI preference to true (double-click it).

  • Had to change wireless network, how do i get the required wpa passphrase? 6510 photosmart

    See subject line

The WPA passphrase is set in the wireless router.  The printer itself does not have anything to do with the passphrase, but it does need it to connect to the router.  The passphrase should be the same you used to connect other wireless devices to this new router.
If you have a computer on the wireless network, you can try using the Print and Scan Doctor to retrieve your WPA passphrase.  The provided link has the steps included on how to do this using this tool.
What brand and model is the router?

  • Sorting in iTunes changed - How do I get the former method restored?

For a couple years I used iTunes for Windows with 2 music content folders - the normal iTunes folder(s) under my Windows profile in which I kept iTunes-purchases and iTunes CD-ripped songs, and one in c:\mp3 for unprotected ripped or purchased MP3 files. Until I made a change in iTunes, I had the following sort order properties when the corresponding header bar was clicked:
    Title
    =======
    'Wonderful
    "Dalla...
    "In Crowd...
    (I Love you) For...
    1,2,3
    101 Eastbound
    A Beautiful Morning
    Your Wildest Dreams.
The same sort of effect was seen when sorting by Artist or Album or whatever.
I decided I wanted ONE music folder. On advice from a magazine (Maximum PC) column, in preferences I chose to have iTunes organize my music (previously unchecked) and then in the advanced tab chose to iTunes Consolidate my music. It copied my music and everything initially looked fine. But, after looking more carefully, I saw the following new effect:
    Title
    =========
    Abilene
    Your Wildest Dreams
    1,2,3
    101 Eastbound
    99 Miles from L.A.
    and,
    Artist
    ======
    a-ha
    A3
    ZZ-Top
    10cc
    5th Dimension
It's as if the entire sort order algorthm is different as regards punctuation and numerals. So, I unchecked the option to have iTunes "organize" my music, but the order didn't change.
What am I missing here?? How do I get the former order back to column sorting?
I'd appreciate any help you could give me - this is pretty annoying.
    thanks.

    iTunes 7.3.0.54

Get info and change the sort field(s) for one song,
    then click Apply.
Right click the song and select Apply sort field and
    pick which you want.
Unfortunately this is not working as intended with iTunes 7.3 for Windows (Mac too?). The "Apply Sort Field ..." does apply the new Sort Artist, Sort Album, etc. to related songs, but iTunes refuses to recognize that the songs were updated. If you check the tags, sure enough their Sort Artist, etc. have been updated, but iTunes does not seem to make use of the change. The only way I've been able to make it work is to go back into Get Info for each song and just cycle through them one-by-one without changing anything. As you cycle through, then the songs move to their proper sort order based on the updated sorting option. This wasn't the case with 7.2, so this would be a new bug.

  • HT5622 I changed my Apple password and I get the information at the wrong email address.  The correct email shows in my Apple account.  Why is the mail going to the wrong email? How do I fix it?

Okay so I associate the e-mail address as the apple ID and that seems to be a wrong assumption.  I did go to my Apple ID and changes the e-mail address and the password but for the same and only Apple account I have ...
That is good.  In that case, your one and only account has not changed, just the login credentials you use for it.  All your previous purchases will remain associated with that account, and the new login.
In essence, an AppleID is an email, but it has two parts.  One is the login email address and password everyone traditionally thinks of as an AppleID.  But that in turn is linked to an account with Apple.  As long as you use the manage Apple ID portal to just change the email address and/or password for your exisiting AppleID, then the internal account tracks along with those changes as well.
However, on your iOS devices, you will need to log out and then log back in with the new login credentials:
settings -> iTunes & App Stores - tap your AppleID, and choose log out.  Then log back in with the new email address and new password.

If you don't have a backup then the only possible solution is to go back to the store and see if they can get your old phone and create a backup of that. I know very often that Apple employees will wipe the returned iPhones clean before shipping them back to wherever they ship them.
When you say your old phone was "broken" does this mean it is dead and won't turn on?
Do you have a Time Machine backup of your computer, or a clone that might have this info on it?
Other than that I hate to say you may be out of luck. Time Machine and/or a cloning program performed regularily will inevitably save your a** in situations like this.
    Good luck

  • I changed my Apple ID but now the old ID comes up when I try to buy an IBook.  How do I get the Apple ID to match my IBook ID?

My old email was hacked so I changed it and closed the old email.  I recently attempted to purchase a book in iBook where I found my iBook account blocked.  I changed my Apple ID and password and verified the new email I submitted.  I then tried to purchase the book using the new ID and password.  The old ID continues to come up when I am asked for my password.  (I don't remember the old password).  How do I get the ID to reflect my new one?  I can't download the book without fixing this problem.  Thanks

open iBooks, then go to the Store, down at the bottom there should be an Account button. click on that button, you should then be able to log out of the old account and then login on the new account.
