Assigning a URL link to button in a Flash Player

I've designed a player in Flash using Action Script 3. I've
built a rollover button into the player that users will click to
link to a new page. But where do I assign the URL for that button
to link to; there's no apparent field for this in the properties
inspector.
I was able to make it work by switching over to Action
Script 2 and assigning a "Go to Web Page" behavior to the button;
but I can only do this in Action Script 2 (where behaviors are
available), and I have to keep the page in Action Script 3 in order
to support other components (Slideshow Pro).
Surely there is a way to assign a simple URL link to a
button in Action Script 3. Thanks for the help,
Chris

yes, you need to write AS3 script in order to do so:
[code]
buttonInstanceName.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, navTo);
function navTo(e:MouseEvent) {
var url = new URLRequest('
http://www.theaddresshere.com);
navigateToURL(url);
[/code]
place this on the first frame where you button is
instantiated, in a layer you name 'actions' - with the frame
selected, open the Actions panel (F9) and enter the script there.
replace the "buttonInstanceName" with the instance name of the
button on the stage you're assigning this method to, and of course
replace the address in the URLRequest parameter.

    The way you had your code originally would be correct...
    var link_one:link1;
    link_one = new link1();
    addChild(link_one);
    The 1046 error is indicating it doesn't recognize the link1 class.  So the first thing you need to make sure of is that you have assigned the link1 class designation to whatever symbol that is in the library.

  • URl link in button in outgoing mail

    Hello Experts,
    I am sending the outgoing mail in HTML format.
    I have provided link in the body of the mail.
    As per the requirement, the same needs to be given as button.
    Can anyone tell me how to give a link as button in the outgoing mail.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards, Prasana

    Hi,
    I think this is a difficult one. Maybe you can add an image which looks like a button and place that in your mail.
    Insert in the body of the mail the html code <img border="0" src="button.gif" width="65" height="38">.
    Don't know if it works but give it a try.

    I have an iMac G5 (20 inch screen) i sight (no intel chip).Leopard OS 10.5.8. Recently I went on Facebook and tried to open a movie site someone had sent me on Facebook andwhen I tried to open the video on Facebook, I was told  I had to upgrade my Adobe Flash Player. i tried to do this, but turns out that Facebook is requiring folks to have an intel chip in order to view movies...this is outrageous!  Just think of all the folks in the world who have great running pre intel chip Apple computers. I called the Adobe Help line and was told that I really needed to buy a new computer....no thanks. How do I find a way to get a new version of Adobe for Facebook and youtube. I wish Apple could develop a way to have intel chips installed in the older computers. If you have any suggestions on this please let me know.
    Thanks, Sarah

    Either get a screen cleaning cloth, or carefully us a slightly damp lint-free cloth and dry off with a dry link-=free cloth.
    As to Flash Videos: I am in a similar same boat. I cannot watch flash videos on the BBC website or on BBC iPlayer, although all other flash videos (YouTube and FaceBook for example) are fine.
    For reasons that passeth all understanding, they work with the PPC version of Firefox, called TenFourFoxG5.app, once you have anabled plug-ins, as it does not natively support Flash.
    You can download TenFourFoxG5 from here:
    http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/
    Now for the intersting bit: TenFourFox, like Firefox, does not support most plug-ins. Unless you are prone to headaches (in which case don't) you can read about that here:
    http://code.google.com/p/tenfourfox/wiki/PluginsNoLongerSupported
    But there is a workaround!
    Open TenFourFox and type in the address bar: about:config (no spaces) and click return. This gives you a warning that it might harm the application. Ignore that and click on 'I'll be careful, I promise' and you get the config file that you can edit - with great care.
    Look/search (scroll down) for: tenfourfox.plugins.enabled
    Set it to true. (Double click it to toggle it)
    Now close TenFourFox, open it again, and Flash will now work, as it now uses the plug-ins that Safari has stored.
    I am using Flash 10.1.102.64 in TenFourFox and it works just fine.

  • Force linked .swf to open in flash player

    i have two files i'd like to play sequentially. both have a
    flash preloader appended to them. the captivate file is published,
    then externally linked to a flash 8 file with a preloader in it.
    the first movie opens in flash player, but when it jumps to the
    second (linked) file, it opens in firefox. the files are linked
    using captivate 2's option in the export preferences area. i've
    looked in the xp file type pane, and flash player 8 is specified as
    the default player for .swf files.
    thanks,
    john

    hopefully this isn't a total waste of everyone's time, i seem
    to have found the answer! though you can specify which file types
    are opened by which applications in xp, firefox seems to override
    those settings. if you change the file type preferences in firefox
    (in this case you need to switch flash movies to open with flash
    player and not the shockwave plugin), it will finally open in flash
    player.

  • Install Button for Adobe Flash Player 12 Does Nothing in FF26

    The only option now on the Adobe site to download FP 12 is to click on the 'Install' button. That is, there is no longer any option to just dl an exe file and then run it to install the player.
    The Adobe page correctly recognizes that I'm using FF and Win7 32-bit. But when I click on the 'Install' button, there is no install activity. Instead, I'm redirected to somewhere else on the Adobe site, some generic page listing various Adobe sw IIRC.

  • Url link to button

    how to set a button to get website with target blank.

    Linking is done in HTML, not CSS (with the exception of a link to a background picture)
    So, if your navigation is a list, you'd have the following in your HTML:
    <nav>
         <ul>
              <li><a href="index.html">Home</a></li>
              <li><a href="about.html">About</a></li>
              <li><a href="books.html">Books</a></li>
              <li><a href="http://www.myexternalwebsitelink.com/inboundfromotherwebsite.html">External Link</a></li>
              <li><a href="contact.php">Contact</a></li>
            </ul>
    </nav>
    Here, in the example above, I'm using the HTML5 <nav>, but that could be an HTML4 <div class="nav"> and you will see a link to an internal page on the same website server for Home, About, Books and Contact with "External Link" pointing to another website external to the one we're on.
    Make sense?

  • How do I link a button to another flash document?

    I am using action script 3 to make my website and all my files and done for now and complete however I have no idea how to make the buttons I created in flash link to another flash document.

    Is each page a different html file?  If so, then you would use code like...
    function linkFunction(evt:MouseEvent):void {
        var url:String = "awebpage.html";
        var req:URLRequest = new URLRequest(url);
        navigateToURL(req, "_self");
    btnName.addEventListener(Event.MouseEvent, linkFunction);
    where btnName is replaced by whatever instance name you assign to the button.  A condensed version of the function is...
    function linkFunction(evt:MouseEvent):void {
        navigateToURL(new URLRequest("awebpage.html"), "_self");
    If it is not linking to different html web pages, then you need to provide a clearer description of what your mean.

  • Link to open swf in Flash player

    I am pretty new at flash and I have been slowly learning the
    do's and don'ts of actionscript. I have a problem that I
    can’t seem to figure out. Basically I'm trying to open an SWF
    file inside my current flash presentation, so basically you click a
    button and this SWF file would open I have managed to get this far
    using this code:
    on(release) {
    loadMovie ("ff.swf", 1);;
    However it opens within the same window, so it makes the
    current flash document useless, basically I just want it so you
    click on the link and a new window will open separately so that you
    can view the swf file and click on X when you don't need it.
    Any Help would be much obliged.
    Nmak3000

    You want to open a new browser window. To do this, you want
    to publish the movie ff.swf to create its own html document. Then
    you want to open that html doc in its own window. To do that you
    would use getURL("ff.html", "_blank"); This will open an whole new
    browser window. If you want a custom window without all of the
    browser chrome, then you will have to use javascript to open that
    window. Do a search on window.open in this forum. You will find
    hundreds of examples.

  • Problems with opening links in outlook after installing Flash player 11

    I recently installed a flash plaer 11 active X update. I wasn't given the option of not installing google chrome and another program - Ask toolbar I think ( or I may have missed it ) but when I discovered the problem I uninstalled the google chrome and the other program.
    After doing this I discovered that when I went to open links in outlook I received the message:
    ``This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.``
    I am running Windows 7 64 bit and using IE 9.
    Any help would be appreciated to return my system to normal.
    I also noticed that chrome and the other program were installed without automatically creating a restore point.
    I am very disappointed in how Adobe pushes programs on people.

    vals1979 wrote:
    I wasn't given the option of not installing google chrome
    How did you install the update - via website?  If so, you can always uncheck any optional software
    Either way, Chrome behaves very badly - especially when uninstalled.  Try setting your usual browser as the default browser, and Outlook, Word, etc. should open links normally after that.
    P.S. I do not endorse Adobe's policy to push optional software with their free products, but there is nothing we can do about that.  However, Adobe would not go as far as pushing spyware (Ask toolbar); most likely it was the harmless Google toolbar.

  • Play button disappears in Flash player

    Hi,
        When I am playing flash videos on a website, the following problem occurs: The video buffers and starts...it then play smoothly. However, when I pull the slider in the control ahead to move ahead in the video, the 'Play' button disappears. The video buffers and the remaining video is being downloaded but I cannot play the view since the play button is missing. I've installed the latest Flash plugin and also enabled Javascript and ActiveX controls on my IE6 browser. However, still the problem persists. Same problem in Firefox...I've broadband connection. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled Flash plugin to no avail. Please help experts!

    I've narrowed down the problem to the following:
    - If a text label is on the Up state but on no other state,
    the button is fine.
    - If a text label is on either (or both) the Down or Over
    state, then the bug occurs. See the folowing:
    OVER
    http://www.tlcondemand.com/test/buttontest6.swf
    DOWN
    http://www.tlcondemand.com/test/buttontest7.swf
    This has got to be a Player bug... unfortunately I don't have
    anything but two Macs running 9.0.124.0 right now, can anyone else
    confirm or deny that they are getting this behavior?
