Assigning variable to a column value

Hi,
I am creating a report wherein I use a formula in one of the columns to forecast data. The values obtained in this column (as a result of application of the formula) is to be used to calculate the values for the second column.And the third column value is dependent on the second and so on....
If I use the column formula directly,then many lines of coding are involved...Is it possible to store the value of a column in a variable and hence forth use it for manipulation in subsequent columns?

Helios,
I'm already having the same setup mentioned in the thread. And I'm doing exactly whats given there. But the issue seems to be something different. I'm assigning the value to the Global Variable in the Package through Apex. Here's the Package Code:
CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE Schema1.SPMS_SECURITY_PKG
AS
X_app_user_id NUMBER DEFAULT -1;
FUNCTION USER_ID RETURN NUMBER;
END SPMS_SECURITY_PKG;
CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE BODY Schema1.spms_security_pkg
AS
FUNCTION user_id
RETURN NUMBER
IS
BEGIN
-- RAISE_APPLICATION_ERROR(-20001,'USER ID'||'*'||X_app_user_id);
RETURN NVL (x_app_user_id, -1);
-- RETURN NVL (sys_context('USERENV', 'CURRENT_USER'), -1);
EXCEPTION
WHEN OTHERS
THEN
RETURN -1;
END;
And Here is the Trigger Code:
CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER Schema1."USER_DETAILS_TRIGGER"
BEFORE INSERT OR UPDATE
ON PMS_SICAL.SPMS_USER_DETAILS REFERENCING NEW AS NEW OLD AS OLD
FOR EACH ROW
BEGIN
IF INSERTING
THEN
:NEW.created_by := spms_security_pkg.user_id;
:NEW.created_date := SYSDATE;
:NEW.START_DATE := SYSDATE;
ELSIF UPDATING
THEN
:NEW.updated_by := SPMS_SECURITY_PKG.X_app_user_id;--spms_security_pkg.user_id;
:NEW.updated_date := SYSDATE;
END IF;
END;
But I always get -1 in the both in the table after the DMLs.

  • How To Capture A Column Value In A Report And Store It In A Variable?

    Portal Version: 3.0.6.6.5
    RDBMS Versjion: 8.1.7.0.0
    OS/Vers. Where Portal is Installed:: SunOS 5.8
    I have a Portal report where I added a checkbox for each row of data that is being displayed. The user can select checkbox for as many rows as he/she wants. The user can then click a button, which iteratively passes the value of a column as a parameter to a procedure.
    I am using the Portal field that ends with a ".FIELD#>" For example, if my report is based on the following SQL statement:
    SELECT EMP_UNID FROM EMPLOYEES WHERE STATUS = 'E'
    Then the field I am using to capture the value is <#EMP_UNID.FIELD#>
    So the <INPUT> looks like:
    <TD>
    <INPUT TYPE="checkbox" NAME="checkboxSelect" value="<#EMP_UNID.FIELD#>">
    </TD>
    And the Javascript code looks like:
    htp.p('<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript1.1">');
    htp.p('<!--');
    htp.p('function runAccept() {');
    htp.p('for (var i=0; i<20; i++)');
    htp.p('if (document.formSelect.checkboxSelect.checked == true)');
    htp.p('{');
    htp.p('myRegExp = /"/gi;');
    htp.p('parameter = document.formSelect.checkboxSelect[i].value.replace(myRegExp, "z");');
    htp.p('parameter = parameter.substring(parameter,parameter.indexOf(">")+1,parameter.lastIndexOf("<")-1)');
    htp.p('alert(parameter);');
    -- htp.p('CallableStatement cstmt = null;');
    -- htp.p('cstmt = conn.prepareCall("{call --runAcceptRecord(parameter)}")');
    -- htp.p('cstmt.execute ();');
    htp.p('}');
    htp.p('}');
    htp.p('//-->');
    htp.p('</SCRIPT>');
    The problem, however, is that Portal stores not only the actual value in <#EMP_UNID.FIELD#>, but also some HTML tags, most of which can be removed via the Display Options page. There are some tags that cannot be removed in this fashion, because Portal does not allow nulls in those. So we are stuck with an HTML tag (i.e. <FONT SIZE>) that is stuffed in that variable along with the value. The problem is further complicated by the existence of double quotes within that tag that undesirably terminates the VALUE assignment.
    So for instance, what you might get from Portal is this:
    <TD><INPUT TYPE="checkbox" NAME="checkboxSelect" value="<FONT SIZE="+0">219</FONT>"> </TD><TD ALIGN="RIGHT"><FONT SIZE="+0">219</FONT></TD>
    <TD ALIGN="LEFT"><FONT SIZE="+0">E</FONT></TD>
    It is in the value="<FONT SIZE="+0">219</FONT>" part of the code where the extra double quote is terminating the Javascript code. I have tried escape() and replace() to remove the extra double quotes, but have not got it to work. The problem is happening too early at this point, and what I have tried is after the fact.
    Obviously, the problem is that I shouldn't be using <#EMP_UNID.FIELD#> since the intent of this is to add html tags for display purposes. That is done by Portal, and I thus have no control over it unless I take drastic means and modify Portal's innerworkings, which I don't care to do.
    My question therefore is, what other variable can I use in Reports to capture just the value? I am hoping that there is a variable in Reports like the ones for Forms which has a prefix of A_. Or is there another method for doing this?
    Thanks in advance
    Fred

    I found htf.formcheckbox function which was what I needed. With that, my javascript code was cut down to just a few lines. Didn't need to strip away the html tags. This function will just return the value.

  • Dynamic value assignment to a particular column in a vertical ALV

    Hi Friends,
    In the present program ALV has 44 fields and output row is only one(with some field editable).
    My requirement is to change present output to vertical ALV and editable field should be available
    as editable.
    Now I have changed this to transposed ALV manually(not dynamically) with required fields editable.
    Now there is 44 rows and two column "FIELD and "VALUE'.Some values in the second column is editable.
    Previously output was like this:
    field1   field2  field3 ...
    val1     val2    val3   ...
    Now output is like:
    FIELD   VALUE
    field1  value1(type INT)
    field2  value2(type char5) Editable(need F4 help)
    field3  value3(type date)
    My present structure declaration is:
    types: begin of ty_itab,
            field type char 50,
            value type char70,
            celltab type lvc_t_styl,(for editing some values in VALUE column).
           end of ty_itab.
    data: itab type standard table of ty_itab.
    Now the second column i have declared as CHAR70 which contains only char
    values because to put all differt types of values to one single column named
    'VALUE'.
    But as field1 field2 field3... had differnt type of value like integer char date...I need to validate some values
    (specially those which are editable) before saving to custom DB table.
    So I need dynamic value assignment to VALUE column when preparing internal table for display.
    What I want to say is that VALUE column should be able to contain different type of values like INT, DATE, CHAR...etc
    Is the requirement is feasible?
    If yes then How should I declare the structure and populate different type of values within single column 'VALUE'.
    Also is it possible to have F4 helps in the second column (VALUE)???

    Hi Manab,
    I did something comparable: We have a very complex transaction with several subscreens with multiple fields to be filled with complex logic to create a very special contract. The requirement was to create a method to create a copy of this contract being able to apply some changes.
    I created a wizard (transaction SBPT_WIZARD_BUILDER - Wizard-Builder) to accomplish that. I grouped all the fields to just 3 logical groups and thius created 3 stesp where the user gets an ALV as you describe, but we have the rows like FIELD  with the new value editable. Additionally I have hidden fields with table name and field name so that I can determine the characteristics (datatype) at run time.
    The value fields are just strings (every ALV field is a text field on the surface).
    For editable fields, you have an event DATA_CHANGED. I used this method as a handler for the event:
    (I will leave out the wizard part here - maybe a good idea for a blog to explain that)
    METHOD handle_data_changed.

          EXPORTING

    I also created handlers for F1 and F4

    METHOD handle_f1.
        CALL FUNCTION 'HELP_OBJECT_SHOW_FOR_FIELD'
          EXPORTING

            sapscript_error  = 2
            OTHERS           = 3.
    Handler for CL_GUI_ALV_GRID->HANDLE_F4
    METHOD handle_f4.
      CALL FUNCTION 'F4IF_FIELD_VALUE_REQUEST'
        EXPORTING
          tabname    = lv_tabname
          fieldname  = lv_fieldname
        TABLES

        EXCEPTIONS
          OTHERS     = 5.
        er_event_data->m_event_handled = abap_true.
    * if er_event_data->m_event_handled is not set to abap_true, system will handle it.
    * In this context the message 'Keine Eingabehilfe verfügbar' will be displayed
    ENDMETHOD.
    This is just an excerpt from my project. It shows that you can do more in ALV as you knew.
    I tried to post a little more but the formatting break down, possibly a result of the character limit

  • How to copy a column value in to a variable in Dataflow task?

    Hi All,
    I want to copy a column value to a variable inside the data flow task. Which is the best way to achieve it in SSIS?
    Thanks,
    Sri

    Unless its a conditional based query which returns a single value it doesnt make sense to store result in a variable.
    If query resultset has multiple values then you cant store them in a variable unless its of type object. The easiest way to store values in that case to object variable is by using execute sql task and then setting resultset option as full resultset. Once
    stored you can use for each loop with ado enumerator or script task to iterate through values of resultset.
    Perhaps you could give us some idea on what you're trying to achieve

  • How to put a variable column value in a "vlookup"

    Hello there,
    I am trying to put a variably chosen column value in a "vlookup" function.
    Logically this should work, but it does not, and I cannot figger out why.:
    "=vloookup("a", B5:Z28, {=MATCH(4, B4:Z4, 0)})" (replaced brackets with {} for this post)
    I am trying to look up the letter "a" in whatever column matches the "match" criteria.
    The match is matching a specific value of 4 from row B. (This value varies based on other input)
    The vlookup is for finding the letter "a" the whole table in whatever column is returned by the MATCH formula.
    How can I do this?
    (Like I said the formula above is logically correct, but numbers returns a syntax error.)
    Thanks from Alaska

    John,
    Next get rid of the brackets you referred to; unnecessary. If that doesn't do it, calculate the column number in an auxiliary column and refer to that column in your expression.

  • Assigning External content type field column value using Client Object Model

    I have a problem assinging External column value to ListItem object with client object model-based application I'm developing. To be precise, I am able to retrieve data related to external content type by reading external list created from this content type
    but I don't know how to properly use it to assign value to this field. By doing some research on my own I concluded that BDC ID column from external list is the way to go since it uniquely defines selected row from external list but that doesn't
    tell me much since I don't know what to do with it. Currently I ended up with partial solution - to assign plain string value of picker column but that makes this value visible only in "View Properties" option on Sharepoint and not in "Edit Properties"
    which pritty much makes sence since it isn't properly related to rest of the data in specific row. Does someone have a better solution for this?
    Igor S.

    I think I understand your problem.
    In my example I have an external data column "Beneficiary Name", using a Beneficiary external content type (accessing a table of beneficiaries in a SQL table).
    I want to set the "Beneficiary Name" property using the client object model. I know the name of the beneficiary but not the ID value.
    It is a fairly simple solution. You just need to identify the name of the property SharePoint assigns to the ID field, in my case it is called "Beneficiary_ID". Then set the two properties as follows:
    thisItem["Beneficiary_Name"] = "Charitable Trust";
    thisItem["Beneficiary_ID"] = -1;
    thisItem.Update();
    Setting the ID property to -1 causes the server to do an automatic lookup for the ID from the value assigned to the item.

  • How to swap column values using variable in sql?

    Hi,
    I have a table and i want to swap two column values using variable
    please help me

    Hi,
    Let us assume that the DeptNAME and DeptNo columns are of type VARCHAR2. However, DeptNO column is VARCHAR2(10) and DeptNAMe is VARCHAR2(100).
    First of all DeptNo column needs to be modified to be 100.
    i) ALTER TABLE DEPT MODIFY DEPTNO VARCHAR2(100);
    Secondly, you will swap DEPTNAME and DEPTNO values using the SQL as follows:
    ii) update dept t1
    set deptname = (select deptno from dept2 t2 where t1.deptno = t2.deptno),
    deptno = (select deptname from dept2 t2 where t1.deptno = t2.deptno);
    Now, finally you want the deptname columns to be VARCHAR2(10)
    iii) ALTER TABLE DEPT MODIFY DEPTNAME VARCHAR2(10).
    If DEPTNO is a NUMBER column, you cannot alter the datatype unless the table is empty; in that case the whole swapping requirement would be moot.

  • How to tell if column value has changed for use in workflow actions

    Hello,
    I am using Sharepoint 2010 and for one of my Lists, I am using a general list workflow.  What I need to be able to do is determine if a column value has change (say an "Assigned To" field) because I only want to take some action if that particular
    value has changed.  I want to be able to have a workflow action that would be something like:
    If Current Item: Assigned To not equals [OLD VALUE]
    I have found some web searches that talk about creating a duplicate list or duplicate (but hidden) column but that doesn't seem to be the way to go.  I have document versioning set but don't if that can be used to help with this.  One possible
    thought (although I haven't tried it to see if it works) is to create local variables and have the values in the variables be the "old value".  Just not sure if there is a best practices for doing this.
    Thanks for any thoughts - Peter

    Helen,
    Not sure I fully understand your goal.  We don't use "tasks" at all but if you are looking to have your workflow check certain valus and be able to send email messages to people based on whatever, then you can certainly do that (as long as your Sharepoint
    has the email setup.  We do this for alot of workflow tasks.
    So, in the workflow you can have a blanket statement like what I previously listed:
    if Current Item:hiddenStatus  not equals Current Item:Status
        .... do something
    or you can do something like:
    if Current Item:hiddenStatus equals "In-Progress"
        .... do something
    Else if Current Item:hiddenStatus  equals "Completed"
        .... do something
    or combine the two and do nested "if" statements.  Then you add an email statement wherever you need it like:
    if Current Item:hiddenStatus  equals "Completed"
       then email "these users"
    To add the email part, just type in "email" on the line where you want to add a statment.  There is only one option to choose from.  That will display the line "then email these users".   The "these users" will be a link.  When you
    click it you will get a popup to add the email info.  We typically will send the email to a user (or users) that are already listed in one of the PeoplePicker fields.  On the email form, you can type in your own text, designate that a value is based
    on a column value (like our PeoplePicker), designate that a value is based on a workflow variable, add a link to the current item, etc.  To get to these options you will click the button to the right of the fields or use the "Add or Change Lookup" button
    in the bottom-left for the text area.  There is alot you can set in the mail.
    Does this help answer your question?

  • Retrieving old column values from a after delete trigger dynamically

    I have a single audit table for deletions
    and the table structure has the following columns
    1: table_name
    2: column_name
    3: column_value
    I am writing a trigger on tables for which i want to have delete audits and i am dynamicaly

    I tried to use the following statement but doesn't return the column value
    sql_stmt:= 'select :1 from dual';
    execute immediate sql_stmt into col_value using
    ':old.'| |v_col_name;
    where v_col_name is the name of the column which i retrieve dynamically using the
    dbms_sql.describe_columns procedure.
    Is their any way if i can retrieve the old column values in the trigger dynamically if i already
    have the column names in variables..
    Thanks in advance.

    I don't know if Kevin's tip Help Mr. Sameer, but it did help me gain access to pre-deleted row column values.
    I did discover, however, that if the columns from the about-to-be-deleted row are used as inserts into another table, Oracle serves up a nasty-gram informing the user that values from the about-to-be-deleted table are unreliable.
    I was able to circumvent this constraint by assigning the about-to-be-deleted column values to local PL/SQL varables, then perform the insert using the variable values.

  • How to get the Text variables in the Columns Headings

    Hi,
         My requirement is I need to get data for weekly wise and for the last 10 weeks also. For this purpose I used the restricted KF based on the variables (customer exit) and offset. Also used the text variable for displaying from and to days in the column headings. I am getting the right text for the first column only. But the text offset is not considering.
    Ex 07/04/2007 to 07/10/2007      06/27/2007 to 07/03/2007 like that.
    I used the two text variables one for from data and other for to date using the customer exit. I am getting the same text as of the first column for the subsequent columns also. Please help me for getting the right text in the columns.
    Thanks,
    visu

    Hello ,
               The quite simple way is to create a text variable with replacement path , as it replaces the value of customer exit used in the report.
    create two text variables
    First variable:
    1 Replace variable with -
    external characteristic key value
    For interval use ---from value
    2.Secod text variable
    Replace variable with -
    external characteristic key value
    For interval use ---To value
    offset start -0000 offset length0000
    use these variables in the column headings.
    hope it is clear,

  • Change Column Value based on Characteristic in Rows

    I am not sure it is possible.
    We have product prices at different levels of customer hierarchy.
    Channel > Division > Region > Market
    One Region can have multiple Markets.  Each market can have different Rates.  But the Region will have a different Rate which many not be the average rate of all market (assigned as part of master data)
    I have a column for Product Price.  So when a Report is run at Market Level it should use Market Rate.  If Market is Removed and Region is dragged into the report it should use Region Rate for Product Price.
    Product Price is Restricted by Rate Type value to determine which Rate is used.
    Is there a way to dynamically determine the define the column value based on the characteristic value in the ROWS.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    For every CHAR like Market/Region there will be some key. For example Maket1 = 11 and Market2 = 22. If that key is a number then you may create replacement path variable on that and convert the same in numbers then you may create various CKF (for various rate type) and put "If" condtion and check for those replacement path CKF and use the apprpriate one.
    You need to write some tricky formula at CKF levels. This is one of the way to achieve that.
    I hope it will help.
