Attching shapes to cells

I am trying to create a room booking system with room types and dates as headers and footers as a spreadsheet in numbers. I would like to use shapes to fill in areas for rooms that are booked. However, shapes are always floating above my frozen columns (and tables) when I really want to to pass under the columns (room titles) when I scroll through the dates. Is there any way to attach shapes to cells and tables?

EDIT: I re-read your original question to see if I had answered it and found that I had not. Your problem was with frozen headers and the shapes being on top of the headers when it scrolls. Not sure I can solve that one. Less than 100% opacity on the shapes will let you read through them but it is not a complete solution.
And here's what I had written, if anything here is of use:
I went to that website yesterday and saw the colored chart. The leading and trailing points on the shape did not seem necessary, though maybe preferable. But you probably also want the text in the boxes and that is leading you to merging of cells. Unfortunately this adds some steps to creating the colored areas and deleting the colored areas. So here is an idea:
Shapes can have text in them. The ones in the screenshot below were created with a double-ended fat arrow. It is modifiable into this shape and I made it the height of a row in my table. I went to the Text Inspector and set the inset margin for the text to zero. I selected 12 point text. I then made several copies of this shape and filled them with different colors. I locked the table so it can't be moved. I did not lock the four shapes (I'll say why later). Simply copy/paste a shape, relocate it to the table, stretch it horizontally to fit the cells you want to cover, and change the text. Delete it and it's gone. Move it or stretch it if the reservation changes.
I did not lock the shapes because you can't copy/paste them as easily. They paste as locked shapes which you then have to unlock to move. If you choose to write a "copy, paste, then unlock" script and assign a key to it, then I'd lock them.

  • Shape grid cell indexes

    Hello.
Could you tell me , please, how each cell shape (in default Visio grid shape) can knows (contain shapesheet user-defined cell with index value) about it's (row\column)index in grid.
In this article (http://visualsignals.typepad.co.uk/vislog/2012/02/modifying-the-visio-grid-shape.html) author using two user defined cells: RowIndex, ColumnIndex in "user-defined cells" section.
But, how to make these data(section) exist for any new(added) rows and columns (cells) with correct values of RowIndex and ColumnIndex?

  • Video quality in scope is really bad and dark

When I send my sequence from Final Cut Pro to Color, why does the video in the scope area come out so bad where I can barely see anything? Basically the video is nothing like the quality in final cut pro and the picture is very very dark.
When I see the tutorials online of the videos being sent to color from final cut, the quality is exactly the same and they don't do any adjustment.
Can someone please help me fix this? I work with AVCHD. Thanks!

    Thanks George.
Now the quality is not "really" bad anymore, it is bad. ;-)
The quality got better, but still there is a difference between drawing shapes and cell borders. And the difference is causing problems with customers, who are demanding professional quality.
Here is a .jpg of the original Excel table. The drawing shape is the outer one, the cell borders are the lines beneath the data. Both line types are very delicat. This is how it should be.
And this is how it looks after a pdf-print with setting "high quality print" (2400 dpi).
The outer drawing shape is ok. The thin horizontal lines are twice as thick than before.
I know, it is about details. But those details make the difference between a professional and an amateur performance.
Do you have another idea, how to improve the pdf quality?
Thanks for your help so far, I appreciate it.

  • Convertion from pdf is really bad

    Hi !
First, i m pretty ignorant in making pdf form...
I need to make an interractive form from a pdf file (25 pages) given by a friend.
he gave me 2 version of the file, a 'normal' pdf and one in form version (without any calcul or interractivity).
    (but it lacks 3 fonts)
I tried to make it with Acrobat :
with both version of the file,
i c'ant find all the events i need in 'Action' tab when i try to add some code on a textBox like 'change', 'docReady'...
But the way i can make the form is really good. In fact i only need to add textbox, radiobutton... i don't want to edit text.
With LiveCycle i create a new document from the pdf and i select interractive. i need to change tooltip, visibility of objects..., wich can t be done with non interractive form (if i understand correctly ?).
my problem is that the converted file is really bad, the convertion log contains a lot of errors.
and it will take me a lot of time to correct, adapt it, plus, images are pixelised ( why ??).
    My questons :
Can i make interractive form without converting the document ? like with Acrobat or non interractive forms ?
Is there a way to have a source file instead of the pdf ? wich contains images, fields... so there will be no convertion.
    Thanx for reading

    Thanks George.

  • Importing Microstation SE DGN files into Adobe Illustrator CS4

    Hello,
New to the forum and was hoping someone could help answer what is likely a very basic question: Can Adobe Illustrator CS4 import DGN files (containing point, line, text, shape, fills, cells and other complex elements) created in Microstation SE? If so, is it an easy process, and what if any data is lost during the conversion? Is the original projection and master units/sub units maintained? I am not familiar with any version of Illustrator, so please be kind (lol). Tks for any help!
    Stephen M

If you intend to zoom in or pan on your graphic, you might make it say, twice the size of your FCP sequence's pixel dimensions.
If it is static, paste it into the appropriate video template at the size you require.
Illustrator and Photoshop are far better at scaling when compared to Final Cut Pro.
The pixelization is probably because that section of the Timeline needs to be rendered.
This indicated by a colored bar at the top of the Timeline. A green bar indicates that you can view that area but it will not be at full quality until rendered.
Make sure all render options are checked on:
Consider also: your image is rendered to the pixel dimensions of the FCP sequence and the Canvas always shows a lower res proxy image to better enable real time playback. To view the output of Final Cut Pro as it really is, you need an external calibrated monitor or at the very least, an excellent TV.

You can check out a similar thread where the poster has opted to use imageicons instead of shapes. That thread is here.

As for creating different color shapes for different cells of the jtable, it is definitely possible once you have a custom renderer for your jtable. Just read up on how to create custom table cell renderer.

  • Image Processing Cells Manipulation

    Hi Guys,
I am working on cells manipulation. Due to the nature of image processing which scans from a top-down-left to right approach, i am unable to fix a index number on the specific cell which I required this information in order to manipulate the cells as my command. The image processing will be running throughout the programme. As attached is the picture of the Imaq count objects i am using.
On a side note, just want to ask a biology-related experiment if anyone encounter the same issue before, why is a cell easily stuck onto the surface as this action prevents the cells from being trapped once it get stuck on the surface of the cover slip.
    Thank you in advance,
    Scott

    Hello,
yes I understand your problem. But it seems to me that the scan direction has no effect on this... What if the scan direction was from bottom-up, left-to right and the cell flows in from the left bottom corner? You would have the same problem...
Or do new cells flow into FOV of the camera only from top-left corner? Could you count the number of objects and linearly increment the indexes of your cells? For example, the first cell that comes into the FOV of the camera has index 0, and when the next cell is introduced, the first cell will have an incremented index that equals 1. And so on...
But if the new cells come into the FOV of the camera randomly from left, right, bottom, top, etc... it would be more difficult. What you could do is calculate some parameters (check particle measurements in NI Vision Concepts)  for the cell you want to manipulate (at the time when you are sure this is the correct cell) and then compare these parameters with the cells on every subsequent frame. You can build a feature vector of these parameters and use classification tools. When you classify the cell, then you would have no problems manipulating it.
If your cell changes shape dynamically, then I do not see a way to do this.
    Best regards,
    K

  • Placing text beside image in a table cell?

I'm creating business cards (using a Printworks template), and I want to place text to the right of the inserted picture.
I've copied and pasted the jpg fine onto the left side of the cell, yet when I try to type text, the cursor only lets me begin typing at the bottom right side of the photo, not up at the top right side, where I want the info to start.
Further, when I try to insert a Text Box into the cell, it won't go inside.
So, my question: *How do I get image and text together inside a table cell?*

    I made an ultimate test.
I grouped a jpeg picture and a shape in which I inserted a piece of text. You may see it on the screenshot.
I inserting the group in the cell hoping that the group will be correctly displayed.
    Nada, only the picture appears.
If I select the object embedded in the cell, copy it, paste it in an other location, I may ungroup it but the now separated shape no longer contains the original text

I am using a table in Numbers to plot daily graph lines. Mood swings of how I am on the day, i"m a depressive.
If I fill a cell with a step box at say zero it plots the graph. I can't actually set the cell value until the actual day but the graph plots it at zero when I don't want it to plot anything. Is there a work around. so thatbgraph only plots on the day?

The answer is (sort of) in your subject, but edited out of the problem statement in the body of your message.
When you use a stepper or a slider, the value in the cell is always numeric, and is always placed on the chart if that cell is included in the range graphed by the chart.
But if you use a pop-up menu cell, you can specify numeric or text values in the list of choices for in the menu. Numeric values will be shown on the chart. Text values will not.
For the example, the values list for the pop-up menu was:
    5
    3
    1
    Choose
    -1
    -3
    -5
The first pop-up was set to display Choose, then the cell was filled down the rest of the column. Any text value (including a single space, if you want the cell to appear blank) may be used instead of Choose.
For charts with negative Y values, the X axis will not automatically appear at Y=0. If your value set will include negative values, I would suggest setting the Y axis maximum and minimum to the maximum and minimum values on your menu list, rather than letting Numbers decide what range to include on the chart. Place a line shape across the chart at the zero level, and choose to NOT show the X axis.

  • Shapes not printing properly!

I created a spreadsheet in Numbers recently that required the use of shapes (squares) in specific swatches of colour...but when I go to the print, the squares aren't staying in the spot I originally drew them in - instead they're moving down a couple of rows. The same is true even if I 'print' the sheet as a PDF. To add to that, I can't seem to get Numbers to recognize that I'm printing on Tabloid sized paper, so barely any cells are making it onto each page.
Any suggestions on either of these:
    - Why are my shapes moving when I go to print? How do I fix this?
    - How do I get Numbers to recognize I am printing on Tabloid paper and it can fit more cells per sheet?
Thanks! (I have iWork 08 if that helps)

    From Numbers Help:
    Setting a Spreadsheet’s Page Size
Before working with Print View, set the size of the pages to reflect the size of the paper you’ll be using.
    To set the page size:
Click Inspector in the toolbar, and then click the Document Inspector button.
Choose a page size from the Paper Size pop-up menu.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do I get rid of white space on one side of image in table cell?

I'm making a disjointed rollover and when ever I add images it creates too much white space to the right of the cell.  How can I make the picture fit, so space is not wasted?  See image sample with red arrows where I want to remove space.  I've removed the width size from my table, hoping it would "spring to shape" around the images, but no go.

  • Referencing multiple cells and removing duplicate values.

    Hello.
I have a very complicated question, to be honest I am not totally sure if numbers is capable of handling all of this but it's worth a shot.
I am working on a spreadsheet for organising a film. I've had the templates for years but I'm now using numbers to automate it as much as possible. Everything was going well until I hit the schedule/callsheet.
On other sheets I can tell it to "look up scene two" it will then look up the correct row and find everything I need. On the callsheet however I might say "we're filming scenes two, five and nine" and numbers gets confused with the multiple values, Is there anyway around this?
Also, if there is, I have a more complex question to ask. Is it possible for numbers to find and remove duplicate data? For example lets say scene two and five require Alice, but scene nine requires bob. If numbers just adds that info together it will display the result "Alice Alice Bob", is there a way to get it to parse the text, recognise the duplicate value and remove the unnecessary Alice?
I realise that numbers has limitations so it may not be able to do everything I want, however every bit I can automate saves me hours so even if I can only get half way there, totally worth it.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer, all the best.

    Ah excellent thank you.
I've modified it to there are now multiple (well only four for now until I get this in better shape) indexes for finding a scene. And assigning each block to a new row.
I only have one slight reservation about this. If I create 10 rows, it totally works, most of the time we'll only shoot three scenes a day so it's just blank space... However Murphy's law will inevitable raise its ugly head and put me in a situation where we are shooting 11 scenes in a day.
For countif, I think I get what you mean... Kinda. Basicially I would create a cell which combines the character strings from each scene into one long scene. Then I would have 100 extra cells (Lets say 100 so I'll never run out) each linked to the cast list, using the character name as a variable. These cells will each parse through the string to find their character name. If it appears then a true value comes up. This will remove duplicates as each cell will only respond once. So if Alice appears in every scene shooting that day, the cell will still only light up once. Is that it.
One other question. Whenever I combine filled cells with blank cells. I usually gets the data from the filled cells, with a 0 for each blank cell. Usually this isn't a problem, but if I want to keep this flexible then I'll have quite a few blanks. The actor example above could result in 98 zeroes. Is there anyway to have blanks just not show up at all.
I'll email the spreadsheet in a moment, a lot of it is still rough and under construction, but you should be able to see where it's all going hopefully.
Thanks again, you have been extraordinarily helpful.

  • Transparent gradient in table cell

When I try to fill a table cel with a feathered gradient that has transparent areas in it, the gradient turns opaque in the table cell. I've also tried anchoring a shape with a gradient into a table cell, and again the transparent areas turn opaque.
Is there a workaround to fill a table cell with a gradient that has transparent areas in the gradient?

    Corrigendum:
If one is aware that the gradient, even when applied to a cell, takes in reference the entire table, then yes, it is possible!
