Audio Commentary  aka  alternate audio file for movie.. How?

Hi folks,
I love this discussion group btw... awesome...
So, I've got my feature film done, we did a 1 week run at the theatre now, we are almost ready for our DVD release but want to do one of those really cool Director Actor commentary / alternate audio files for the movie. Is this done in FCE or iDVD? and any tips?
Best Regards,
Mark

... I think there is a workaround with FCE + iDVD.
You could duplicate the original sequence in FCE, then add your alternate audio to the timeline of the new sequence. (Record your commentary and add as a 2d audio track (say, a3/a4)). Raise & drop the audio levels appropriately across the length of your regular and alternate audio tracks. Export the resulting video to QT Movie and import it into iDVD along with your original Movie.
You will now have 2 versions of your Movie & can put them both in a single iDVD project (of course, subject to the limitations of the total length you can put on a DVD (~2 hours for a single layer DVD, ~4 hours on a dual-layer DVD.) Or just put them on separate DVDs if your Movie is too long to fit both on a single disc.

It would be up to your carrier if they provide this option.  I don't believe AT&T does. If they did, I'd be all over that.

  • Best way to break up audio files for Captivate?

Hi guys, I have a dilemma here. I am getting ready to record the audio clilps for Captivate and I'm wondering how I should break up the audio.  For example, the first slide has
    First textbox with title "Introduction"
Second textbox with title "Learning Objectives"
Third textbox with "In this lesson you will learn: a) how to do something b) how to define something"
Fourth textbox with "It will take you 5 minutes to complete this lesson"
So, how does Captivate play the audio? Do I record only one audio file for all the text on screen and add the audio to the slide? Or, do I record smaller chunks (for each textbox) and add the audio file to each of the textbox?  In which order will Captivate play the audio? I'm assuming if all the textboxes have separate pieces of audio, Captivate would play those at the same time.
    Thanks

Hi.  My recommendation would be to create one audio file for the slide, then use the timeline if necessary to time the text captions (and other objects) to appear/disappear to match the slide audio.  If you record audio for each text caption, the audio will begin to play as soon as the text caption becomes visable on the slide.  If you have more than one text caption appearing at the same time, both will play their audio at the same time.
    Hope this helps.
    Mister C.

It seems that you do not understand the problem at hand. I can listen on a m3u list using iTunes, VLC and other players, but I wish to listen on m3u lists as streaming music when I am on sites such as eMusic. For instance, I cannot listen on sample music at eMusic, but must download it first. Thus, it is not possible to listen on streaming music with Firefox. On the other hand, Opera and Safari handle m3u streaming music very well.
Can you listen streaming music or samples at eMusic using Firefox without downloading m3u-list on your local disk?

  • 5.1 audio files and movies no sound!!!

I did a test already. The 5.1 audio still play through ATV 1 but do not play on ATV 2. anyone else have these problems. These are 5.1 Dts audio files. They have always worked on the ATV 1. Also, certain movies that have Dolby digital have no sound on ATV 2 but they play fine on ATV 1. I have turned the audio setting on ATV 2 to Dolby digital "on" it's not set to auto. Anyone have any fixes?

Well on my yamaha receiver it says DTS when playing these audio files. I know it's not officially supported but DTS does work...these are 5.1 audio DVD files I believe. I got them from a friend. But anyway they still work on old apple tv but not new one. I have no idea why that is. They must have changed something in that little black box. Thanks for the response hope we can figure this out....

  • Importing .wpl audio files for slide show in Elements 4.0

Once again I have to prevail on my fellow Photoshop users' expertise. Help! I am trying to import music files from a playlist in Media Player (Microsoft Home XP) into a slide show in Photoshop 4.0. I get error message "Cannot open file because it is the wrong type of file." (The files turns out to have .wpl extension. Have tried to move the files from Media Player first to "My Documents," then open them in Organizer or Editor, but get the same error message. (Have moved similar files successfully into SONY Vegas video editor all along.) Is there any way to convert the audio files to the format suitable for Photoshop (.wav or .wma)?

I think that sunny_afternoons.mp3 is one of the MP3s that comes with Photoshop Elements. In order to see that audio file within the PSE Organizer, you may need to change the View menu settings for media so you see the Audio files. (You can temporarily set it to display only Audio files to make them easier to locate. However, it is important that you then set it back to your normal options to display Photos etc - otherwise next time you use PSE you will wonder - What Happened to my photos?)
Once you find that mp3 file, right click on it in the Organizer and see if the Organizer can play it. If the Organizer can't play it then generally the slide show can not either. However, playing in the Organizer does help analyze problems but it is not a guarantee that the slide show will be OK. You might also check what is the default player software on your system for mp3's.
Other than that - I don't think I have any additional ideas. Since you are attempting to run in an environment for which Adobe offered no support and no statement that it would work, you might just have to try to debug your system on your own.

  • Audio files from movies

    Folks
I have a full movie I wanted to edit the audio in. Movie is 1'30'' long. When I do the extract in Logic I get an audio file that plays the entire audio, but it is 1 tick long and pointer indicates a file w/o lenght. I am unable to edit this. I tried extract audio from movie and extract to arrange. Both give me the same file lenght. File is an MP4 file. Is there a way to edit the audio? This is my 1st video attempt.
    Thanks

  • Text to audio files for iPod replay

    Does this:
    [http://etc.usf.edu/techease/4all/learning/how-do-i-use-the-speech-service-in-ma c-os-x-to-record-text-into-an-audio-file>
feature still work? I would like to take text found in a TextEdit document and not only have it "spoken" to me but I would like to have an audio file of it made that I can put on my iPod.
I find interesting stuff online that I would like to read but I don't have the time or it may be difficult to comprehend and so may require listening to multiple times. I would like to therefore listen to the "spoken word" file several times while engaged in doing other activities. But how can I get a written document onto my iPod as an audio file? Thanks.

Hi. Thanks for trying to help.
The "Apple menu" doesn't seem to have anything called "Services" to select.
But each application's menu seems to have "Services" to select.
For instance "Firefox" or "Safari" or "TextEdit" have "Services" tabs.
(The "Finder" also has a "Services tab.")
Nevertheless I'm unable to "Add to iTunes as a spoken track."
I am "selecting text" before before clicking "Add to iTunes as a Spoken Track."
I am doing this after going to "Services Preferences" and checking the box for "Add to iTunes as a Spoken Track."
I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

  • Pinnacle has L & R audio files... how to convert to 1 Stereo for use in Premiere

When I import my video captured by pinnacle into a premiere sequence, I need to bring in 2 seperate audio files as pinnacle records L/R on seperate files, These files are then brought into a sequence, and dont go to the main Stereo track for the sequence, and instead go to 2 new audio tracks.   Is there anyway around this?   Can I import 2 tracks as one stereo track or something?  Or does anyone have a workaround to this?  I plan on using On Location for capture purposes going forward... but I have TONS of footage to edit first that was captured by Pinnacle.

My decision about what to do would depend on the length of the current clips, the total length of all the clips, and the type of editing.  By type of editing, I mean whether I am going to have a lot of minimally edited coverage of whole games versus short bits of highlights or both.  Also, I see this is high def footage, so I'm going to worry about what problems I may find in recapturing.  I lean toward recapturing, but that is a nightmare.  Then again, your situation is a nightmare.
In any event, another option, similar to Colin's, but not creating as many sequences:
I don't know if it was mentioned: you can create a modified preset (and then use it as a preset) with 2 mono tracks and a stereo master.  This avoids the extra tracks and you don't have to manually modify each sequence.
Your clips are not just random audio that have to be synced: they belong with video they were captured with.  Sync should not be an issue, unless the Pinnacle capture went wrong.  So you can simply select a continuous (from the captures) group of video clips, lay them down on V1, then the same for the left wavs to A1 (mono), then right wavs to A2 (mono).
I don't edit m2v yet, so I don't know if a bunch of m2v clips with wavs for audio creates any problems or not.
To the extent that you are doing clean up of a long sequence, you just cut in this sequence.  to the extent that you are doing highlights etc, you can go through this and cut and copy to another sequence, or use markers and nest etc.

  • Multiple audio files for one flash video

My company is developing a presentation software program that
is flashed-based. We are developing a series of videos that will be
converted to flash video. We will also be recording multiple audio
tracks for different languages that we want to swap out and sync to
the video (like the different audio language tracks on a DVD). Does
anyone know if you can encode the video and audio to seperate
tracks and then swap out the audio with another and still synch it
    to the video?
We want to try and avoid encoding video for all the language
tracks to save space. If we could have one video file and then
multiple audio files that can be synched with the video file,
rather than having to encode video and audio for each language,
this would save a lot of room. Can anyone think of a way we could
accomplish this using flash and flash video?

nope, Keynote doesn't have "triggers" though I figure this has to be on Apple's radar as it's been brought up every time a new version comes out.
I suppose one work around would be to make a slide for each sound, and have the sound play when you go to that slide. Then make your table a series of buttons that go to each "sound slide" (you can make link buttons, just not triggers). It would give you the effect of clicking to play the sound, it's just that instead, Keynote would be jumping to a slide and playing a sound. All the slides would LOOK the same, and you wouldn't use transitions between them. The effect would get you what you want, it just takes longer to build.

  • See full audio file in movie

Ok this is for people who know their way around iMovie '11 fairly well. I work with FInal Cut Pro X at school and when you insert an audio file (in most cases a song) it will display the whole song. That allows for you to have a certain part of the song at a certain part of a video. Like if theres a big "bang" in the song, you can have it at a certain part of the film. But on iMovie '11, the portion of the song displayed will only be as long the duration of the video. So if the video is 30 seconds long, it'll only display 30 seconds of audio. I want it so that if there's 30 seconds of video, I can still see the full song. Is there a setting? Because I have looked and looked. Hopefully theres someone out there that both understood my question and has an answer for me. Thanks

Good question. There is a way to do what you are talking about.
First, drag the song into an empty project.
Then open the Clip Trimmer by clicking the small gear icon in the music track.
Now, add your beat markers to the track by pressing M where you want to place a marker.
You can either add on beats, like the video below, or you could add beat markers at your big bang.
Here is a good Tutorial from Ken Stone on Markers. You can scroll down to the beat marker section.
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/imovie_09_stone.html#markers
Here is a sample of using beat markers for a slideshow, but video clips work much the same way.

  • Audio file for transcription

I am trying to create a .wav, .aif, .aiff, .mp4, .m4a or .m4v audio file of an hour long interview using my macbook pro, blue microphone on garageband which was a podcast using female narration ( which I thought would be better than quicktime) and then will be transcribed using macspeech scribe.
Help!!!! and thank you... if you have other suggestions let me know as I am new to this

I think you're asking how to export an uncompressed audio file from a Garageband project, yes?
First, make sure you don't have any tracks muted or soloed, or else some of the tracks will be missing from your final audio file.
Then simply go to the menu bar along the top of Garageband and select Share --> Export song to disk.  There should be a check mark next to Compress...uncheck this box so that Garageband will make a .aif file instead of an MP3 file.  Then click Export.  In the menu that pops up, choose a name for the song and where you want to save it, and then click Save.
    All done!

  • Working with Groups, Region Data Somehow Misaligned Locations in Audio Files.. How to Realign?

    Hello All,
I'm a nonexpert, so please excuse in advance any lack of knowledge that I probably should have. I've been heavily editing a recording of several days of jams for a long time, basically by cutting and aligning very disparate parts to form something new. I had been working with my drummer's audio tracks in group, so each would be aligned as I cut, pasted and stretched regions. Now to my dismay, the all of the kick drum regions have become unaligned with the other drum tracks. This isn't something I can simply nudge, because it has shifted the location of the audio data of all of the kickdrum regions back 5 or 6 seconds. Therefore, the proper start of the region is not even loaded. If you look at the screenshot below, there are two audio files, one drum overhead (0022 AIRE 2) and the kickdrum (0023 BOMBO). The regions 0022 AIRE 2.89, 107, 108, etc. should correspond in sample location with 0023 BOMBO.89, 107, 108, etc. But, as you can see, the BOMBO samples have been shifted leftwards, all of them.  All of the other drum tracks have the correct alignment for each region.  My question is: Is there a way I can copy the region mapping information between 0022 AIRE 2 and 0023 BOMBO? Or are there any other ways to tell 0023 BOMBO regions 89, 107, etc. to pull audio data from the same location as 0022 AIRE 89, 107, etc.? I really hope so, because if not I'm helpless. Thanks to anyone and all who might have some advice. JS

Jeez, now it has happened to my other tracks as well.. If someone could please help, I would be grateful. Put too much work into it to have this ruin everything.. Here is another picture, how can I get these samples to realign? Remember, they are supposed to be part of a group and thus aligned. For some reason, the samples for the track 040 BOMBO have been all shifted leftwards in time from where they take the sample from the audio track. How can I fix this? Thank you anyone who can help..

  • Why doesn't Lightroom 4 create xmp files for mov files?

This would be useful for moving files to other applications and databases. As far as I can tell Adobe doesn't share any metadata for .mov files between any of it's CS6 programs either, Bridge, Prelude, Premiere, etc. As a still photographer who is now shooting DSLR video I want to get metadata entered as soon as possible for my still and video files. It would be best to do both stills and video at the same time. Camera Bits Photo Mechanic is the only program I've found so far that does this. Canto Cumulus is able to read Photo Mechanic's xmp files. I don't really need Photo Mechanic in my workflow except for this issue.
