Authenticate to add to Macintosh HD

Macintosh HD
Yosemite now requires my to authenticate a file or folder when I want to add to /iMac/Macintosh HD/ while I am in my user account.
Authentication is not required for me to insert a newly created folder or file in the existing folders, such as /iMac/Macintosh HD/Webhead1990/
Is there a way to turn off the authentication requirement once I have logged in to my user account?
When my iMac is started, a password is required to get beyond the opening screen for my user account.
I have two user accounts, my account and guest.
Yosemite Help was no help.

Thanks, Eric. Your instructions were very explicit and easy to follow. Except one thing: "The process takes a few minutes".
I hit the "reset" button, it turns light gray with the word "done". I have waited for the "done" to turn dark black. The first time, I waited ten minutes. The second time I waited 15 minutes. Then I backed out of "Terminal", and reopened. I selected "System Administrator (Root)", and pressed "Reset". That was about 20 minutes ago.
I'm going to wait another 15 minutes, then I am going to back out and restart my iMac, and await your remarks.
I must be doing something wrong, or my iMac 3.06GHz is slow. But I don't think so. I think maybe(?) Yosemite has changed this process.

  • Networking PC & Macintosh with Linksys WRT54G

    I've spent the last 2 days looking at Macintosh, Windows and Linksys forums all over the Internet and no one seems to have this exact problem. So, I figured it was time I posted. Here is the deal.
    I have a Macintosh G4 running OS 10.3.9 and a PC running Windows 2000. The Windows machine is hard-wired into a Linksys WRT54G router (v6 1.00.9 firmware). The Macintosh is using a wireless card (MacWireless 11g PCI Card).
    Both systems can get onto the Internet just fine. I just can't get the Mac and the PC to share files. I have set up a shared folder on the PC. I turned on file sharing on the Macintosh. I even turned off both firewalls on each computer and all encryption and security on the router. (Yes, I know I should have security on. Once I get it to work, I'll go back and begin to lock things down.)
    If I go to the Windows command prompt, I can successfully ping the Macintosh IP address (192.168.1.101).
    If I use the Network Utility on the Macintosh, I can successfully ping the IP address of the Windows machine (192.168.1.100).
    So, the machines definitely SEE each other. They just won't connect to file sharing with each other.
    If I use the "Add Network Place Wizard" on the PC to add the Macintosh to the PC, I get the error: "The network location cannot be reached."
    When I use the "Connect to Server" on the Macintosh to add the Windows machine, I get the error: "The username or password are not correct." It never gives me a dialog requesting a username or password though!
    This is driving me batty. I have the feeling I'm VERY close to getting it working and I'm just missing some small configuration detail. Something is tripping things up and I have no idea what else to attempt.
    Any thoughts?

  • Mail no longer does Entire Message search

    I am no longer able to get Mail to do an "Entire Message" search. When I type a word in the Search box, the 'Entire Message' button appears "grayed out", and the only options available with All Mailboxes are From, To, and Subject. I did a Rebuild, I checked the settings in Preferences for searching Trash, Junk, Encrypted Messages (not that those should matter), I'm using a POP server, etc This seems to have just started since the 10.5.7 update.   • Publish RD Gateway and Web Access with One-Time Password (OTP) / Two-factor Authentication WITHOUT ISA/TMG server

    Hi everybody,
    I've been struggeling with this problem for a few weeks now and can't find a way to solve it.
    We have an RD farm (Server 2012) which consists of two Remote Desktop Servers with Connection Broker and Web Access.
    I've recently published a new server, containing RD Gateway and Web Access in our perimeter network.
    Now we've got restrictions that OTP/2FA must be used for the external deployment and we've decided to go for a solution from Gemalto.
    The "program" is called IDConfim and the server is called SA Server (Strong Authentication).
    Also it's important that NO ISA/TMG server is supposed to be used, the OTP/2FA is supposed to work seamless with the Web Access/Gateway.
    After hours discuss we came to a point were their NPS agent setup would be the only way to accomplish our goals.
    The setup is supposed to be like this:
    LAN:
    1 DC (2008 R2)
    RD Farm (2012)
    1 SA Server (2012)
    DMZ:
    RD Gateway/Web Access (2012)
    Were Gateway and Web Access should forward the authentications with NPS to the NPS agent on the SA server.
    When you print your AD account to authenticate you add the 6 digits of OTP which you recieve from you mobile app.
    Initially this seems to work, the Gateway forwards the request to the remote NPS server, BUT only if you write the correct AD password
    (without the OTP extension).
    If you write the correct AD password the authentication is forwarded to out SA Servern and it's beeing rejeced because the password doesn't
    contain the correct OTP extension.
    The problem comes here.
    When you write you AD password along with the OTP extension you get a Windows Security error in the eventlog (On thw Gateway server) like this:

    This event is generated when a logon request fails. It is generated on the computer where access was attempted.
    The Subject fields indicate the account on the local system which requested the logon. This is most commonly a service such as the Server service, or a local process such as Winlogon.exe or Services.exe.
    The Logon Type field indicates the kind of logon that was requested. The most common types are 2 (interactive) and 3 (network).
    The Process Information fields indicate which account and process on the system requested the logon.
    The Network Information fields indicate where a remote logon request originated. Workstation name is not always available and may be left blank in some cases.
    The authentication information fields provide detailed information about this specific logon request.
    - Transited services indicate which intermediate services have participated in this logon request.
    - Package name indicates which sub-protocol was used among the NTLM protocols.
    - Key length indicates the length of the generated session key. This will be 0 if no session key was requested.
    What i can see it's a NTLM error, but hey?! aren't we supposed to forward all authentication handeling to the remote NPS server?
    The problem is that no matter what i try the above problem stays there.
    Is it not possible to just forward ALL authentication handeling to a remote server?
    The only solution I've found to get it working someday in the future is this:
    "Remote Desktop Pluggable Authentication and Authorization", which is supposed to be introduced in 2012 R2.

    I have never seen a limit published. Matter of fact, I just created a similar event and found it using search.
    If you have confirmed existence of the event, I would surmise that your "Spotlight" search index is not being updated.
    You can go to System Preferences...>Spotlight>Privacy>...and add your Macintosh HD to the list. Then Quit/reopen System Preferences and remove your Macintosh HD from the list.
    Patiently wait until the Spotlight index is recreated, and test iCal. Depending upon the size of your HD, and the amount of data present, the re-indexing process will take awhile to recreate.

    i am working on moving a portal from a NW04 (java standalone) to a NW 7.0 EHP1 sp3 ABAP+JAVA.
    in the source system i have UME setup to authenticate against an LDAP MS AD. In the target system this option does not seem to be available due to the fact that when the xml file is changed to "dataSourceConfiguration_ads_readonly_db.xml" for the LDAP the system cannot find the users in ABAP. i understand that i will have to setup this connection through ABAP but i could only find sync instructions with AD Link: [http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/e6/0bfa3823e5d841e10000000a11402f/frameset.htm]
    i only require a one way authentication from my portal to AD.
    is there a way to get this working through ABAP or have the JAVA side UME be able to authenticate and add users from AD so they may gain access?

    Hi all!
    the issue is that i am ussing the dataSourceConfiguration_abap.xml. when this is picked in the configtool it will not give you the option to change dataSourceConfiguration to anything else and the LDAP tab is not displayed in portal.my end result would probably be a way to use mixed authentication where ABAP and LDAP will be used as authentications sources. in my current portal system i am ussing the ADS readonly dataSourceConfiguration which lets me read from the java DB users and LDAP.

    one thing you can try
    Open system prefs and go to spotlight, in the privacy section add your Macintosh HD and any other drives you back up.  Give it a few seconds then remove your Macintosh HD and any other drives you added.  Close system preferences.  Watch the spotlight symbol on the top menu bar "looks like a magnifying glass".  It should have a dot in it as in is indexing all your drives again.  When the indexing is over (it can take a long time of your drive is big) now try to create a new backup with time machine...."
    As usual, it's gonna take a couple days to see if it works.  I'll let y'all know...and y'all should try it also, and let us know.

  • Bridge CS6 keyword search isn't working.

    CS6 on an iMac. I can see that my files have their keywords, but searching produces no results.
    (Used to work fine, but it's been quite a while since I've needed to do a keyword search so I don't know when it stopped working.)

  • ICal problem. After installing 10.5.3, iCal search does not locate anything

    After installing 10.5.3, when I search for something in iCal's search field, nothing appears.
    When I search for an item that I can clearly see is in the calendar, or to-do list, nothing appears in the search window at the bottom of the screen.
    Anyone else having this problem?

  • Shouldn't Spotlight find this???

    I have about three folders on my HD (all in my user folder) with the name Kathy Ruth in the title. I type Kathy Ruth into the Spotlight search in the menu bar. OK, it finds two folders and one alias. But I KNOW there are at least three folders with that in the name. So I choose Show All from the Spotlight menubar. I click File Name in the Search window that comes up. Still only shows two folders and one alias. So I manually drill down in the Finder and sure enough, I find the third folder with Kathy Ruth in the title (called Kathy Ruth - copy). OK, if I COPY Kathy Ruth - copy from the folder and paste it into Spotlight, it STILL doesn't find the folder!!!
    This is not the first time this has happened to me. Why does Spotlight often fail to find some files?

    try re-indexing your computer.
    open system preferences > spotlight
    click on the privacy tab
    click on the + sign, and add your Macintosh HD
    now click on the - sign to remove it, and your system should start indexing.
    (the magnifying glass will animate when doing an initial index)

    When I use the search function to find a list of meetings, I only the current event and then events from 2008 in the list view. The events are on the calendar when I look day by day, but not in the list at the bottom of the screen. What is going on?

  • Lion iCal search broken

    My iCal Lion search is not working at all.  Nothing at all comes up in the search bar when I type. 
    I have dragged the com.apple.iCal.plist onto desktop.  All it did was reset my iCal settings. 
    Any ideas?
