Authorizing on replacement PC

My computer crashed and I'm setting up a new one. ADE won't let me authorize my new PC because my ID has been previously used (on the computer that crashed.) I don't want to establish a new ID ... prefer to keep using my primary ID. How do I get ADE to recognize me on my new PC. Thanks.

The message I get is “You can only authorize this computer with an Adobe ID that hasn’t been previously used to authorize any other computer or mobile device.”
The “other computer” is dead and gone. And info on site says up to 6 computers can be authorized, so I don’t see why that could be the issue anyway.
There is no authorization to remove from new PC because none of my attempts to authorize it have succeeded. Should I try Ctrl-shift-D anyway?
I guess, as you say, my installation of ADE (on the new computer) did trigger this problem. But what alternative was there to doing that?
ADE did allow me (from the new computer) to change my password, but won’t accept my ID to authorize that same computer. That seems weird to me.
Thanks. I appreciate your help.

  • Creating new Certificate Authority to replace old

Bare with me as I am no expert on certificates)
How would you go about fixing an issue where the CA appears to have been decommissioned (prior to my employment) and thus I can't renew a certificate as it can't find the template.
Oddly the event viewer is only just throwing up "certificate is about to or already has expired" events despite the certificate saying it expired over a year ago.
The Server that issued the certificate is long gone.
When I run certutil, the 2 CAs it claims are up appear, to be 1. a server that's also gone and 2. a server appears to be a server that does exist but that is now named differently.  The second I also can't see any CA roles setup on.
It claims this expired certificate is for "client authentification, Server Authentification" but it would seem it hasn't caused any network issues if it's been expired for over a year.  none the less, i'd want to try and resolve this issue.

    Hi Crummett,
When a root CA's certificate reaches the end of its validity period, all certificates it has issued will also expire, you cannot renew a certificate that has already expiredif your root CA certificate expired, you must issue a new certificate.

  • How to find/replace existing certificates before decommissioning certificate authority?

We plan to decommission a multi-use server that also contains our internal certificate authority and replace it with new dedicated CA servers in a more secure design (offline root CA etc.).
Before we decommission our existing CA servers, how do we find a list of all the issued certificates that are still valid?
We would need replace all those old certificates with new certificates from our new CA so the applications that use them don't break when the old certificates are removed/revoked and before we remove the GPO setting that makes our current CA a trusted root
    CA for our domain computers.

on CA server you can filter issued certificates by "Certificate Expiration Date" column. In the Certification Authority MMC snap-in, select Issued Certificates folder, then click View -> Filter. Add a filter that would filter certificates
where "Certificate Expiration Date" is greater than current date.

  • Apple Care replaced my dead, out-out-of-warranty Airport Express

Today, I became one of the hundreds (thousands??) of Airport Express users whose AE died just a few months out of warranty. I faithfully purchase Apple Care (3-year extended warranty) from Apple for every Mac I buy.
A few years ago, my graphite Airport died, and the Apple Care rep gladly replaced it due to my active Apple Care contract at that time. Today, I thought I would receive the same courtesy, thanks again to my TWO active Apple Care contracts that were in place well before I purchased the AE.
My initial Apple Care rep denied my request for a replacement AE, because, he argued, the AE was not purchased at the same time with a Mac. I explained to him the graphite Airport story above, and he dug his heels in deeper. I insisted that he send me up the food chain to a superviser, and after 4-5 min on the phone, the supervisor came on, apologized for his tech's mis-interpretation of policy, and authorized the replacement on the spot. He told me that his techs would have this clearly explained to them for future Apple Care contract holders who call up with a dead AE.
Extra info...I live near an Apple Store, and asked if I may go there and pick up the replacement. He said the decision would be up to the store management--if they had stock, etc. I said I wanted to take my chances and go up there, so he instantly made me an appointment with the genius bar within the hour. This Apple Care supervisor was a real pro. He made it clear that Apple Care covers an AE even if the AE is not purchased with a Mac. He also told me he would make a special request within my case report to the store for a stock unit. Bam! I walked in and got hooked up! Apple does take care of its customer (who might need to be a bit more persistant than need be at times) after all.
Good luck should you find yourself in the same boat I was in...By the way, I am posting this via my replacement AE on the same day, and I would swear it produces faster internet speed than the fried one!

    Hi, Steve
that's one of the good points of the forum here: having a lot of trouble the past few weeks with my iMac, and now also with a brandnew minimac, I get back full with hope by reading your post here.
no, i'm not sarcastic. I think you tell us that we can get treated correctly if we insist to be treated correctly. and that is a a helpful advice.

  • Replacement MacBook?

I have a MacBook here that has died on me...I believe it is the logic board again that isn't working. I would like to know if I am eligible for a replacement MacBook because I've gone for one (1) repair to have the logic board replaced and one (1) in-store repair for some other minor thing [can't recall]. So, instead of going for another time-consuming repair, could I just call Apple Customer Relations, explain what the issue is, and possibly they'd replace my MacBook instead of sending it for repair? What do you guys think?
    Cheers.

It will probably depend on who you talk to and how you present your case. After sending mine off for repair twice, I then developed battery/screen blackout/power issues. I had seen posts here from others indicating that they'd been able to get replacements, and I had been told previously that after a third repair this was not uncommon. So I called the local Apple Store and asked to speak with the manager. I explained that I'd already had two repairs and was now having problems again, and asked how many repairs would be needed before getting a replacement. He told me to bring it in and then ask for him once the Genius Bar had looked it. I did, and he authorized a replacement.
My replacement was a new Core2Duo, and others here have reported the same. For my black MacBook, that also meant a larger hard drive, standard 1 gb RAM (they gave me the extra RAM I'd purchased initially back), and the dual-layer SuperDrive. And no re-stocking fee.
Of course, it is within Apple's (or the particular store manager's) discretion as to what to do. They could choose to do another repair. But you never know if you don't ask.

  • Replacing "hardware defect iPad"

my parents bought an ipad in singapore where my family were on vacation less than a month ago to assist me in my studies (I currently live in the philippines)... unfortunately for some unknown reason my screen showed this some kind of snowy, grainy TV effect on the screen, my ipad has not experienced any drops whatsoever... anyway, chat support concluded that it is a hardware defect after restoring via itunes and ended up authorizing a replacement... my inquiry is that, since the ipad was bought in singapore, will they send in a replacement from singapore? and if they do, will they charge me taxes for it (as in enters philippine territory)? do i have to pay for the replacement process? because that would be really disappointing... i would really feel rip-off-ed (is there such word?)... I wanted my iPad replaced with a direct shipment from singapore, but as the chat support instructed, i have to contact philippine apple support for the replacement... thanks in advance!

Apple will not ship a replacement from Singapore. If you are in the Philippines, you'll get your replacement from the Philippines. If the iPad is still under warranty, you will not be charged.
    Regards.

  • TM restoration of replaced harddrive, stalled

So I recently had a hard drive failure on my iMac (intel, 24", 2007) & had authorized service replace the original 500gb drive with 1TB drive. I've formatted the drive, installed Leopard and then was restoring from TM which is on a WD external drive. I chose to not restore all of the users b/c it turns out I'm the only one using this computer. When I clicked to start the restore, I get the "Transferring Information" screen but the progress bar is empty & not changing and I hear no activity in the iMac or the WD external drive. Looks stalled. What should I do to restart the process?

    michael969 wrote:
What I mean is that all my history of TM backups is visible in the sidebar and I can navigate to one of them and select but 'Applications' for any of those dates is greyed out and therefore not selectable.
There is/was probably something wrong with one or more of the apps, likely caused by the drive failure before your last backup, so the corruption was transferred to the backup. Then Migration Assistant couldn't deal with it, and TM isn't real happy with it, either.
Do you mean the Timeline on the right of the TM interface?
Start with a Finder window in List mode, then select +Enter Time Machine.+ Navigate to a recent backup, then to its Applications folder, then click it's disclosure triangle. That should give you a list of the apps, and you should be able to select and restore the ones you don't have, one at a time, (except for any that are corrupted).
It is somewhat of a moot point now since I have just gone about redownloading Firefox, VLC, Photoshop etc. My only questions would be how to avoid this in the future? Why wouldn't the installation software permit restoration of the 'Applications' file from TM? (or why did it never finish 'Calculating' the applications folder?) How large should the TM folder on the external media be relative to the disk you are backing up? (ie: 100%, 50%, or other?)
The TM disk/partition should be 2-3 times as large as the data it's backing-up. This varies greatly, of course, depending on how you use your Mac. If you're talking about the Backups.backupd folder, it will be the total size of all the included backups. As the first is a full backup, and the others are incremental, it should keep growing until TM starts deleting the oldest backups to make room for the new ones.
In the end, TM has worked OK but not as well as I would have expected or hoped. At least I haven't lost photos or video. I did lose iMovie HD which isn't available for download anymore which is a pain. Anyone know where I could get iMovie HD?
It appears the problem was not with TM, but with one or more items that were corrupted by your disk failure. I suspect any backup app would have done about the same.

  • Is there a dark-red pixel in the middle of my ipad 2 screen, Apple Staff ignored it with rude manner.

Is there a dark-red pixel in the middle of my ipad 2 screen, I 've just it for 6 days. After that I went the store (Thailand) to turn it, they told me that it's a dead pixel and Apple won't replace it to the new one - there must be more than 3 to claim.  How can I do?
The store guy told me I should go Apple Service Center. The Center's staff kept my ipad and told that replacement depends on Regional office at Singapore.
She also blame me that "Why don't you look for dead pixel before you brought?"
What !!! Dead Pixel is the fault of Apple Factory, but she said like I'm so stupid to brought a dead-pixel ipad.
"If you want me to do something on your case call to Singapore by yourself" she said.
After I called to Singapore, I found myself the staff there treated me so bad and confuse.
    1. The first guy at Singapore said  "Because you 've just brought it for 6 week you can choose between replacement or refund, but leave me your numbers we will call you back."
    2. Shortly, a rude guy called me - said to me about Bright and Dead Pixel - then said "It's not our authority to replace ipad for you, you paid your money for our dealer (Store in Thailand), so you must ask for resposibility from them. "
What !!!!! He treated me like I'm not a customer. Store and Care Center in Thailand told me it ups to Singapore, but Singapore told me not.
Who lied? However, I'm still Apple Customer. Whatever country I brought it, I paid for Apple product. Where are thier responsibilities?
I hope, Apple U.S. is my last resort.
    Yuttasak Konboon (Thailand)

Given that you can return/exchange it for any reason within the 14-day window after you bought it, you shouldn't have any problems.
Do you live near an Apple retail store? That may be your best bet. It certainly worked for me: I ordered mine online and when I noticed an air bubble embedded in the glass, I brought it to my local Apple Store and 15 minutes later walked out with a replacement. No fuss whatsoever.

  • Headphone Jack No Longer Working

About 2 weeks ago, my iPhone's headphone jack completely stopped working. I started to notice it a month ago (after installing the latest iOS builds, but I dont necessarily have any reason to believe that it's a software issue) when it wouldn't play music in the headphones when I'd plug them in but after trying a few more times it would finally work again. Obviously now it doesn't work at all.
I've read the few threads around the Internet on this issue and most people just had lint in the jack that had to be cleaned out. Mine did not but I tried cleaning it anyway with a q-tip and also light oiled it with electronic lube (with a q-tip, being mindful of the sensor at the base of the jack).
Has anyone else been able to fix this type of problem?

SOLUTION: Headphones no longer work on iPad
I had the same problem: suddenly my headphones didn't workon my iPad. All the headphones (3 pairs) worked on my iPhone, so I knew the problem wasn’t with the headphones. The sound worked fine from the iPad speakers, so when I unplugged the headphones, the sound returned. I called AppleCare Support and tried everything they suggested, including restoring it to the factory settings. Nothing worked, and they authorized a replacement iPad.
The new iPad arrived, but it had the same problem, so I knew something had changed in the iPad's programming. I went online and found that many others were having the same problem, but no one offered a solution. However, someone mentioned that the problem first occurred after installing the latestOS (4.3.3), which is when my iPad’s problem occurred. Next, someone else wanted to know if there was a mute switch that needed to be turned off. This started me thinking...
To make a long story as short as possible, I played around with the controls on my old iPad and discovered the following: Apparently, the latest OS has added a safety feature to protect our eardrums (that’s nice, but it would be even nicer to have been notified of this change .. even the support technicians were unaware of it). Previously, when you listened to the audio through the iPad’s speakers, the sound was so low that you had to turn the volume up as high as possible to hear it. Then when you plugged in the headphones, the sound blasted your eardrums as you frantically lowered thevolume.
    (PROBLEM:)
Now, however, WHEN YOU PLUG IN THE HEADPHONES, THE IPAD AUTOMATICALLY MUTES THE SOUND. When you unplug the headphones, the sound is automatically restored through the speakers, giving you the false impression that there is something wrong with the headphones or the headphone jack.
    (SOLUTION:)
So after plugging in the headphones, you have to use the volume button to bring the sound back up to the desired level. When you press the volume button, it will say “headphones” on the display to let you know that you are adjusting the sound for the headphones only. The speaker volume retains its previous setting (maximum volume).
So, the solution is quite simple… just turn up the volume after you attach the headphones.
    Cheers!

  • EDGE UP RETURNED MULTIPLE TIMES Don't know what to do now

    Hi ,
I have been a loyal Verizon customer with an account in good standing for as long as I've owned a cell phone... I am looking for resolution to an ongoing problem from my EDGE agreement.   I upgraded to Iphone 6 plus in November.  I initially lost my shipping label and had to request another to return my Samsung Galaxy s4 to the Edge Program.  I had to request a new one which took weeks to arrive.  Once I received it I put the phone in the mail immediately and tracked it to arrival at it's destination, thinking everything was good.  On the 45th and last day I had to return the phone it showed back up on my doorstep.  It was rejected with the explanation that it was not the phone on the original edge up program and was not an authorized Verizon replacement...that was correct information, however the end of June or beginning of July 2014 my phone was replaced under warranty as the service was never up to par...After numerous troubleshooting calls a technician decided to replace the phone.  At that time I returned the original phone. Evidently after hour long chats and phone rep conversations it was determined that my information was in fact the truth.  The phone rep never returned my call as promised, but the chat person got help from her supervisor to correct the ESN number in the system with that of the replacement phone, ship out a new return label, and put a note on the account that the warehouse should accept the return even though arrival would be past the 45 day cut off.  So a second time I sent back the phone.  Thinking everything was corrected.  I tracked the phone to the warehouse.  After another period of time the phone arrived back to me a second time.  I placed a call that day.  So stressed about the now 300.00 charge showing up on my account.  The customer service rep again had to verify the complete story of what had happened.  After another hour plus conversation and consultation with supervision, the plan was:  Go to Verizon and do the trade-in, as Verizon, " has to get the phone back"  Once the phone is received I will get a 100.00 credit, when the representative confirms the phone is received she will credit my account an additional 200.00.  The padded envelope I received to return the phone was pitiful.  most of the bubble wrap was popped to begin with.  I have photos of the phone the day I shipped it.  I was also disappointed with no tracking number I could utilize....so I paid and extra fee to add it at the post office.  I have a receipt that I shipped the phone on 1/27/15 and that it should have arrived at destination on 1/30/15, but the phone has not been scanned again since leaving my local post office, so that is as far as I can track it.  I don't know what the answer is....but the ESN not being changed was obviously the root of the problem and not something I could control.  Now I am holding my breath that the phone arrives and is found to be at the 100 value and that the customer service rep holds up what she says she would do.....  I am looking for help and some type of resolution....I have sent the phone back and now have launched an inquiry with the post office since I can't track it any further.  Please give me some idea of how to rectify this situation.  I do not want to be bitter with Verizon, but this has truly been a night mare, and I have spent valuable time rehashing this story with multiple representatives to no avail.  What can I do?

  • Full Restore from Time Capsule after hard drive failure

Authorized agent replaced hard drive after it failed. Installed 10.5.5 and currently attempting to do a full restore from Time Capsule - progress is slow and in question after 22 hours. The backup size approx. 100 gb.
Screen reads "Transferring Information" at the top, progress bar is moving, and bottom of the screen reads "Looking for applications and documents to transfer" and hasn't changed for 22 hours.
Is this normal? how long should 100 gb take to restore?

think about the speed of wifi here
speed at 802.11n = a theoretical 540Mbps (less in real world scenarios)
Mbps = Mega bits per second
MBps - Mega bytes per second
    8 bits = 1 byte
    8 mega bits = 1 mega byte
How long would it take you to download a 1 gig file from the internet wired into your modem? About 10-20 min? And that is taking into account that the info is being uploaded hardwire. Now imagine that same file over wireless in your home being upload by the Airport card in your computer. People over look upload speed when considering these things. The wireless upload speed of your Airport card is what is limiting this. Just a limitation of the technology, not a fault of Apple just stating the numbers here.

  • Apple Hardware Test problems

Hi All. I have a very weird problem here, as I can't get the Apple Hardware Test to start on my late 2008, 2.66 MBP15 inch model# MC026LL/A (released early 2009 as a quiet upgrade from 2.53). Here's the story:
I opened up my machine as usual one morning, and the optical drive made a very weird noise I never heard before. So I decided to run the Apple Hardware Test (AHT) to see if anything was amiss. Well, I inserted the second install disk, held down the "d" key, and restarted the machine. It began to boot into the hardware test, but just after the AHT screen appears the computer just shut down. This happens every time I try to run the AHT.
I went to an Apple Store while I was on holiday in Brisbane (they don't have one here in Adelaide), and the genius said it was likely a bad optical drive. Well, I returned to Adelaide last week and had the local Apple Authorized store replace the optical drive. Tried to run AHT once again, and the same problem persists. So the original problem wasn't with the optical drive.
I thought maybe I accidentally used the startup disks for my wife's late 2008 15inch, 2.4, MBP (the one actually released in late 2008). I've looked around for the other sets of disks and can't find them. So here's what I'm asking help for: can someone who owns a 15inch MBP 2.66 15-inch (released in early 2009, model# MC026LL/A ) please tell me what the part # is for their set of install disks? It is written on the plastic sleeves of the install disks. And, could this person please tell which version of AHT is written on the disk itself? The set I have (which I think might be my wife's) has AHT version 3A158.
Might this be the problem, or should my computer still be able to run the hardware test using my wife's disks? I know they are both technically late-2008 15inch unibody MBPs, but I think my 2.66 (again, quietly updated and released in early 2009) might require a different AHT version, which would explain my inability to run the test. If not, what might be causing my computer to not run the AHT? I tried reinstalling OS X to no avail.
Thanks for all of your help!

I think I share your skepticism--if your Mac was shipped with the later version of the OS, you should not have been able to do a clean install with discs of an earlier version. It looks like some machines originally shipped with OS X v. 10.5.5 and others with OS X v. 10.5.6. I don't remember just when 10.5.6 came out.
Your two machines are likely very similar in build, and maybe similar enough for the OS to install. It may be that the AHT is specifically designed for the hardware in each machine, and that would be a bit different.
As someone else said in another thread, there ought to be a tutorial on how to keep track of the original install discs since they are always getting lost. Maybe a secure note in the keychain or something like that.
Out of curiosity, does the AHT work on your wife's machine? If not, there could be a problem with the install disc itself, and if so, you might be able to get a free replacement under warranty.
    Good luck!

  • Use of camera on 8900 locks up the Blackberry

The Blackberry 8900( t-mobile) will erratically lock up all functions on activation of the camera. Whether the icon is selected or the activation switch is pushed, the camera will lock up the phone. I have informed tech support at RIM and they are authorizing the replacing of the Blackberry that was originally purchased from T-Mobile in March, 2009. According to their research, they can duplicate this problem and there is currently no fix. In order to recover other functions, I have had to remove the battery, replace it, and reboot. Download of current upgraded software did not fix the problem and a new phone is currently the only fix available.I have forwarded a log of the events to RIM for their continuing effort to fix the problem.

What do you call the "activation switch"? Are you referring to the right or left convenience key on the side of the 8900?
Have you tried switching the Convenience from the right to the left (Options > Screen/Keyboard > Right or Left Convenience key.
Set the current one that is to CAMERA to NONE, and set the other one to CAMERA and see if that continues to lock up the BlackBerry.

  • Close the lid very weak internet speed Open the lid great internet speed

I have my 13.3" MBP connected to a external display (23" ACD) using BT mouse/KB. With the lid cracked open I have GREAT internet speed, if I close the lid internet speed slows to a CRAW.
I have never had this problem before.
    Here's what I tried:
    Time Capsule (TC) reset (unplug)
    TC changed several channels
TC Changed network to Mixed, and N (2.4GHz), N (5GHz)
    TC checked Internet Robust
    Reset Cable Modem (re-provisioned)
Checked with application iStumbler no problems with interference
BTW, I have 2 laptops and both do the same thing if connected to the 23" ACD in a room about 22 feet away from the TC. I also have a 24" ACD LED in another room that's about 5 feet away from the TC and do NOT have any of the problems described above with either MBP connected.
Internet Speedtest lid closed = 0.32 mbps download
Internet Speedtest lid open = 28.89 mbps download

This is not just a flby. I've been testing and setting now for 2 hours with NO change.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Close the lid and prop the machine up on edge, so the display is in about the same position it would be in if it were open. Any difference?
    None, no difference.
Applecare geniuses said it was the TC after 2 hrs of trouble shooting with him, he authorized a replacement. So Im on my way to the Apple store for a replacement, hopefully they will give me the 1,000GB one for the 500GB one I have. We'll see.
