Autocomplete in APEX Report page

Hi,
i am new to apex.. my scenario is "there is a report page for a DB,in the report page a select list with 400 entries is to be there...so if i am going to type 'A' all the entries starting with A should be filtered out,then if i type 'R',all the words with 'AR' should be filtered....
pls give one solution for this....if it is possible without any javascript means it will be well and good...

We now have the same issue on production, is this just something specific to our instance?

  • Apex report

    Hi Could somebody clarify the difference between query column vs generic column in Apex reports page creation option.
    Thanks

    Hi unnamed,
    Query column: sql is analyzed immediately when you save the report.
    Generic; sql will be anlayzed if you run the report.
    The columns will be named col01, col02 and so on.
    You can try it yourself, by selecting one by one the choice.

  • Page breaks in (html) printed apex report

    I am having a strange problem that appears to be related to APEX page template.
    I have a report that is html generated by a PL/SQL function. I need to have page breaks in the printed report at specific locations. I am adding this style to the html output of the function:
    <STYLE>
    DIV.pageBreak { page-break-before: always; }
    </STYLE>
    and I insert this at the locations I need breaks:
    < D I V CLASS="pageBreak"/>
    (without the spaces in DIV)
    (found this technique here: http://www.unagibay.com/DesktopDefault.aspx?tabindex=1&tabid=100&itemid=1821 )
    This works perfect when I run the report in IE, but FireFox is "ignoring" the page breaks. However, if I take just the output of the PL/SQL function in an html doc, FireFox works fine (breaks at the proper places). This makes me believe something related to the "page wrapper" content generated by APEX causes FireFox to not handle the breaks.
    I have tried copying and editing the Popup and Printer Friendly page templates, but I either remove too much and the page doesn't render, or the page breaks don't work.
    My questions for the APEX gurus are:
    1. Is there an "approved" way to get page breaks in the printed version of an APEX report, or is there a better way to do what I need to do.
    2. What is the minimum contents for a page template (what can I safely remove).
    Thanks,
    Bill

    Hi Owen,
    the page breaks are inserted before/after the section.  Expand the report structure window and make sure that the properties window is open below.  Once you click on the section part, you will see where you can insert the page breaks - the check boxes will appear in the properties.
    yes on the second part - just insert the page break between the data providers and then repeat the header for the data provider on the pages (also check boxes on the properties tab)
    Good luck

  • Apex report performance is very poor with apex_item.checkbox row selector.

    Hi,
    I'm working on a report that includes some functionality to be able to select multiple records for further processing.
    The report is based on a view that contains a couple of hundred thousand records.
    When i make a selection from this view in sqlplus , the performance is acceptable but the apex report based on the same view performes very poorly.
    I've noticed that when i omit the apex_item.checkbox from my report query, performance is on par with sqlplus. (factor 10 or so quicker).
    Explain plan appears to be the same with or without checkbox function in the select.
    My query is:
    select apex_item.checkbox(1,tan_id) Select ,
    brt_id
    , tan_id
    , message_id
    , conversation_id
    , action
    , to_acn_code
    , information
    , brt_created
    , tan_created
    from (SELECT brt.id brt_id, -- view query
    MAX (TAN.id) tan_id,
    brt.message_id,
    brt.conversation_id,
    brt.action,
    TAN.to_acn_code,
    TAN.information,
    brt.created brt_created,
    TAN.created tan_created
    FROM (SELECT brt_id, id, to_acn_code, information, created
    FROM xxcjib_transactions
    WHERE tan_type = 'DELIVER' AND status = 'FINISHED') TAN,
    xxcjib_berichten brt
    WHERE brt.id = TAN.brt_id
    GROUP BY brt.id,
    brt.message_id,
    brt.conversation_id,
    brt.action,
    TAN.to_acn_code,
    TAN.information,
    brt.created,
    TAN.created)
    What could be the reason for the poor performance of the apex report?
    And is there another way to select multiple report records without the apex_item.checkbox function?
    I'm using apex 3.2 on oracle 10g database.
    Thanks,

    Thanks for your reply.
    Unfortunately changing the pagination doesnt make much of a difference in this case.
    Without the checkbox the query takes 2 seconds.
    With checkbox it takes well over 30 seconds.
    The second report region on this page based on another view seems to perform reasonably well with or without the checkbox.
    It has about the same number of records but with a different view query.
    There are also a couple of filter items in the where clause of the report queries (same for both reports) based on date and acn_code and both reports have a selectlist item displayed in their regions based on a simple lov. These filter items don't seem to be of influence on the performance.
    I have also recreated the report on a seperate page without any other page items or where clause and the same thing occurs.
    With the checkbox its very very slow (more like 20 times slower).
    Without it , the report performs well.
    And another thing, when i run the page with debug on i don't see the actual report query:
    0.08: show report
    0.08: determine column headings
    0.08: activate sort
    0.08: parse query as: APEX_CMA_ONT
    0.09: print column headings
    0.09: rows loop: 30 row(s)
    and then the region is displayed.
    I am using databaselinks in the views b.t.w

  • APEX Report to balance a column of data over 3 columns

    I have an sql report that outputs a code and description e.g.
    1  Ape
    2  Boar
    3  Cat
    4  Dog
    5  Elephant
    6  Goat
    7  Hare
    8  Ibis
    9  Jackel
    10 Kangaroo
    11 Lion
    12 Mouse
    13 Numbat
    I need the following output where the number of records can change but I always want the values to fit into 3 evenly balanced columns e.g. Sorry about trying to line the columns up
    1  Ape      6  Goat    11  Lion
    2  Boar      7  Hare    12  Mouse
    3  Cat      8  Ibis    13  Numbat
    4  Dog      9  Jackel
    5  Elephant      10  Kangaroo
    What is the best way to do this in one APEX report. I've tried using 3 separate reports in columns 1,2,3 side by side with "no template" but I can't seem to centre the 3 reports and spread out the values evenly across the page.
    thanks in advance

  • Populate report page based on results from stored procedure

    Is it possible to populate a report page in APEX based on the results from a stored procedure? If so, how do I do it? Do I write a stored procedure with a ref cursor as out parameter?

    I would use a stored procedure to return the values for a form but not for a report. For a
    report, I would use a pipelined function. See an example here:

  • Display image in report page but just a link if file is not an image

    Hello,
    I've been working on displaying an image in a report page but need to add some logic.
    I would like to be able to call the image using a Region Source of type SQL instead of the HTML Expression. The reason for this is because I need to use logic to determine if the file is an image or not and to determine wether to show a thumbnail or just a link. I did find a "GET_BLOB_FILE_SRC" Function on the internet that suggests that I could do this but I need some help in making it work in my application.
    Here it is as a Region Source of type SQL:
    SELECT ID,
    NAME,
    CASE WHEN NVL(dbms_lob.getlength(document),0) = 0
    THEN NULL
    ELSE CASE WHEN attach_mimetype like 'image%'
    THEN '<img
    src="'||apex_util.get_blob_file_src('P4_DOCUMENT',id)||'" />'
    ELSE '<a
    href="'||apex_util.get_blob_file_src('P4_DOCUMENT',id)||'">Download</a>'
    end
    END new_img
    FROM TEST_WITH_BLOB
    If anyone can help me with this that would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    John,
    The problem is that I do not know how to use the "GET_BLOB_FILE_SRC Function". I never got it to work but the HTML Expression did work for me. If you know how the GET_BLOB_FILE_SRC Function works then that would be helpful. I don't think it would be helpful if I posted my example on apex.oracle.com. But here is the information I have on the GET_BLOB_FILE_SRC Function.
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    GET_BLOB_FILE_SRC Function
    As an alternative to using the built-in methods of providing a download link, you can use the APEX_UTIL.GET_BLOB_FILE_SRC function. One advantage of this approach, is the ability to more specifically format the display of the image (with height and width tags). Please note that this approach is only valid if called from a valid Oracle Application Express session. Also, this method requires that the parameters that describe the BLOB to be listed as the format of a valid item within the application. That item is then referenced by the function.
    See Also:
    "About BLOB Support in Forms and Reports" in Oracle Application Express Application Builder User's Guide
    Syntax
    FUNCTION GET_BLOB_FILE_SRC (
        p_item_name           IN VARCHAR2 DEFAULT NULL,
        p_v1                  IN VARCHAR2 DEFAULT NULL,
        p_v2                  IN VARCHAR2 DEFAULT NULL,
        p_content_disposition IN VARCHAR2 DEFAULT NULL)
        RETURN VARCHAR2
    Parameters
    Table 1-28 describes the parameters available in GET_BLOB_FILE_SRC function.
    Table 1-28 GET_BLOB_FILE_SRC Parameters
    Parameter Description
    p_item_name
    Name of valid application page ITEM that with type FILE that contains the source type of DB column.
    p_v1
    Value of primary key column 1.
    p_v2
    Value of primary key column 2.
    p_content_disposition
    Specify inline or attachment, all other values ignored
    Example
    As a PLSQL Function Body:
    RETURN '<img src="'||APEX_UTIL.GET_BLOB_FILE_SRC('P2_ATTACHMENT',:P2_EMPNO)||'" />';
    As a Region Source of type SQL:
    SELECT ID,
           NAME,
           CASE WHEN NVL(dbms_lob.getlength(document),0) = 0
                THEN NULL
                ELSE CASE WHEN attach_mimetype like 'image%'
                          THEN '<img
    src="'||apex_util.get_blob_file_src('P4_DOCUMENT',id)||'" />'
                          ELSE '<a
    href="'||apex_util.get_blob_file_src('P4_DOCUMENT',id)||'">Download</a>'
                          end
            END new_img
       FROM TEST_WITH_BLOB
    The previous example illustrates how to display the BLOB within the report, if it can be displayed, and provide a download link, if it cannot be displayed.Thanks

  • Add a Print button to a Report Page

    I'm trying to add a Print button to a report page to render the page in printer-friendly mode and then give the user the option to send to a printer. I started with just trying to add a print button. I added a button to the region and added to the button request value javascript:window.print();. When I click on the print button, nothing happens. So I tried to add some html code:
    <form>
    <input type="BUTTON" value="Print" onClick="window.print()">
    <form>
    as a condition in Expression 1 when I selected "Current page is NOT in Printer Friendly mode". Nothing happens when I click on the print button. Can anyone offer some steps to create this functionality or point me to documentation on how to do this? I have tried the help documentation within APEX and isn't clear to me.
    Thanks

    The documentation wasn't very clear to me. I did try one suggestion to create a region on the report page and call it Print. The suggestion is then to add the following code to the Source Region section:
    <form>
    <input type='BUTTON' value="Print this page" onClick="window.print()">
    <form>
    The example however leaves out some significant information however. What is the region created as e.g. HTML, Report, Form, URL, etc?

  • Is there any way to sent apex reports in mail

    Hi All,
    I have a requirement to sent an apex report as a mail. Is it possible? Or will I have to write PLSQL procedure to collect the records and embed in html tags and then send the mail
    I tried to use &lt;iframe&gt; tag and embed the apex page which is public in to the mail, But it doesn't look good.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Vikas Krishna

    Vikas,
    As I understand it, this will be a feature of 4.0. However, for now you must still create them manually. Using public pages, as you've seen, can be tricky. Think about pagination and such.
    If an iframe would have "worked" then why not an email with a link back to the right page?

  • How to get to the last record of an APEX report automatically?

    In Oracle Forms there is a "lastrec" command which can be placed after a call to a multi-row form.  The records called have the last record at the bottom of the page.  For example, if there are 100 records and there are 10 rows on the form, record numbers 91 through 100 would be showing.  Can this be done in APEX?  I have a user who wants it this way.  I set the report page up to be ordered descending, which gives her last record at the top of the page, but this is not acceptable to her.  She wants to see the last record, but she wants it at the bottom of the page.

    Hi,
    Try this query, it should order your data as you want and the report pagination is not broken!
    The number of row displayed must be the same as the divide by value (ie. 10)
    select your_id
    from your_table
    order by trunc ((DENSE_RANK() OVER (  ORDER BY your_id desc) -1) /10)
        , DENSE_RANK() OVER (  ORDER BY your_id desc) desc;
    Page 1 displays 91 to 100
    Page 2 displays 81 to 90
    Also if your data set have 87 rows, Page 1 will display 78 to 87 (ie. the 10 last rows).
    If you want more details regarding the sorting you can have a look on this query:
    select your_id
         , trunc ((DENSE_RANK() OVER (  ORDER BY your_id desc) -1) /10)
         , DENSE_RANK() OVER (  ORDER BY your_id desc)
    from your_table
    order by 2, 3 desc;

  • BLOB content download link on apex report

    Hi Guys,
    I have a simple form where user can attach file and save the records. I iterate through wwv_flow_files and get the file and save it to a custom table which has BLOB column. On another report page i display uploaded file details. What i need is, there must be a column with download link when user clink the link appropriate file should be downloaded. How can i do this ?
    Really appreciate if someone can assist me on this.
    Thanks Guys.

    See About BLOB Support in Forms and Reports.
    There's an OBE tutorial that followed the introduction of declarative BLOB support in 3.1 as well. (An earlier version but it is still relevant to APEX 4.x.)
    (Please make an effort to consult the documentation and thoroughly search the forum for previous coverage of a topic. This is a much discussed question.)

  • How to export the Apex web page to PDF with click of a button?

    How to export the Apex web page to PDF with click of a button?
    Am looking at exporting the Form view on APEX to be exported to PDF.

    In order to get a PDF, you need to generate a Report....in PDF format.
    If you are using the APEX Listener, you can initiate the download of the PDF by calling APEX_UTILS.download_print_document()  (I normally place this in a Process)
    BUT -- You have to create the Report (under Shared Components) and a Template (also under Shared Components).
    The white paper in my first post gives you the HOWTO "[Create] Custom PDF Reports with Oracle Application Express and the APEX Listener".
    Start by creating a Report (in Shared Components, bottom right) that uses a simple SQL statement like:
    Select * from emp where empno = :P15_EMPNO
    You may need to hard code the parameter before you hit "Download XML" button.
    The XML that you get from clicking "Download XML" satisfies the "Step 1 - Create an XML Data Source" found on Page 11 of the document.
    The rest of the instructions is in that whitepaper.

  • Column Links in Apex Reports

    I am using version 4.0 of APEX.  My question concerns linking to other APEX pages from a report.  In APEX we link to another page, which may be a form or another report, by using a column in the report as a link column.  Any column may be used to transfer values from any other column.  This works fine, but the disadvantage is that whichever column is used as the link column has a heading which identifies the column's purpose but may not identify the purpose of the transition to another page.  In Oracle Forms, we could use buttons as a column of the multi-row screen (i.e. same as APEX report), and the button's label identified the purpose for the transition.
    Is there any way to create a column in an APEX report  to serve the same purpose as the button in Oracle Forms?

    Is there any way to create a column in an APEX report  to serve the same purpose as the button in Oracle Forms?
    When discussing "reports" it is essential to indicate whether this means a standard report or an interactive report in order to receive an appropriate response.
    It is possible to create a link column that is distinct from report data columns. In standard reports, this is done using the Add Column Link option from the Tasks menu in the right sidebar of the Report Attributes page. In interactive reports, define a Link Column on the Report Attributes page.
    To provide further information about links to users in both cases, specify an HTML title attribute for the link in the Link Attributes property of the link definition. This will be rendered as a tooltip when the cursor hovers over the link in visual browsers, and as an audio cue on navigation to the link when using a screen reader.
