Automatic create Index of an existing index-list

I need to create an index for a book (200 pages);
the list that I have received from the author, includes about 500 words.
Is there a ability the index-list I’ve got from the author use to create automaticly the index?
Manually is too tedious for this number of words, on the other hand, it may also be that the index list more changes ...

  • How to automatically create hyperlink destinations based on numbered list?

I am very new to InDesign and am creating a template for an academic journal. Each article contains a list of references at the end and the references are cited in the main text (like what you see in Wikipedia if you are not familiar with scientfic journal articles). In exported HTML, the citation in the main text should be hyperlinked to the coressponding reference in the reference list. I have two questions:
    1) It is possible to ask paragraphy style to assign each numbered item a hyperlink destination? If this is possible, I can then manually inserted hyperlinks in the main text.
    2) one step further, is there any way (e.g. script) which can then insert hyperlink to those destinations based on pattern match? For example, in main text, the citation to reference #1 appear in the text as [1] which should be hyperlinked to reference #1.
One more question, is there anyone who knows how academic journals handle the flow from InDesign to html? Certainly, the exported html cannot go directly online without further editing.
    Thank you.

    Hi Eric,
I posted the script here. But it should be adjusted to your particular document. (Anyone with basic scripting knowledge can do this). I am sure it won’t work as it is. I assume that “comments” and “references” are in two different stories.
Can I have the scripts from you (for a fee or free)?
    I don't sell my scripts: they're free.
    Can the scripts handle the pattens like these [3], [1-5], [3,4], [6, 8, 11-13]?
This script can't, but another handles both single page numbers and page ranges like so:
I can post it as well.
Now I’d like to make one thing clear:
I made a set of scripts for creating hyperlinks in InDesign documents for further exporting them to ePub/HTML. I can’t make a script that would work for everyone because all books are very different. I simply adjusted scripts for every book I had to work with (mainly changing GREP expressions and names of styles) and I have numerous variations of scripts. I can post them if someone is interested but you should be aware that they have to be reworked.

  • How can I create index(uniqie index) for a existed table?

    Hi guys,
I want to create a index for a existed table, it should be unique index. I did it using se11, "indexes," and select the radio button "unqiue index", of course the fields as well. But when I activate it, I get a waring and therefore can not create this index. But if I select radio button "non-uniqe index", it works.
However I have to reate a unqiue index.
    How can I do it?
    Thanks in advance
    Regards,
    Liying

    HI Wang
You can create your index via SE11, enter the table name, click change, choose Go To, Indexes. Here create your index with the key fields that you want. To use the index, your select statement WHERE clause, you must have the key fields of the index in the order that they appear in the index. The "optimizer" will choose the index depending on your fields of the WHERE clause.
One thing to remember is that when you create indexes for tables, the update or insert of these tables may have a slower response then before, I for one have never seen a big problem as of yet.

  • Crystal 8 link options index list does not exists in Crystal XI Release 2

    Crystal 8.0
Database -- Visual Linking Expert -- Highlight a link line from File A to File B -- right mouse click -- Optionsu2026..you will see multiple indexes listed
I was then able to select the index
This does not exist in Crystal XI Release 2
Database : Pervasive Btrieve native driver using DDFs
Is there a setting somewhere to turn this on or is it no longer available

    Hi Clair,
As of Cr 9 we completely re-wrote the database drivers so that option is no longer available. I believe a way to get around this is to is to copy in the index.ddf into the same folder as the data files, as well as the other ddf's. If you want to use a different index.ddf then delete the file and copy in the one you want to use.
It's been a while since I've tried this.
You may also want to look at adding all of your indexing into one file.
    Thank you

  • I want information in practical sceario  how to create indexes?

    hi,
i want complete information about indexes? how create indexes in real time?

    " Secondary Database
First it must be stated that table design is a more logical work while index design is rather technical. In table design it might make sense to place certain fields (client, company code, ...) in the beginning. In index design, this is not advisable.  Very important for an index is that it contains very selective fields in the beginning. Those are fields like object numbers. Not selective are client, company code, ...
Indexes should be small (few fields).  The Database optimizer can combine two or more indexes to execute a query.
Indexes of one table should be disjoint (have few common fields), in order not to confuse the optimizer which index to use.
Note that each index slows the inserts into the table down. Updates are only slowed down if indexed fields are updated. In general, heavy inserted tables should have only few indexes while heavy selected tables might have more.
    " Creating Secondary Indexes
    Procedure
1.In the maintenance screen of the table, choose Indexes.
If indexes already exist on the table, a list of these indexes is displayed. Choose .
2.In the next dialog box, enter the index ID and choose
The maintenance screen for indexes appears.
3.Enter an explanatory text in the field Short text.
You can then use the short text to find the index at a later time, for example with the R/3 Repository Information System.
4.Select the table fields to be included in the index using the input help for the Field name column.
The order of the fields in the index is very important. See What to Keep in Mind for Secondary Indexes.
5.If the values in the index fields already uniquely identify each record of the table, select Unique index.
A unique index is always created in the database at activation because it also has a functional meaning (prevents double entries of the index fields).
6.If it is not a unique index, leave Non-unique index selected.
In this case you can use the radio buttons to define whether the index should be created for all database systems, for selected database systems or not at all in the database.
7.Select for selected database systems if the index should only be created for selected database systems.
Click on the arrow behind the radio buttons. A dialog box appears in which you can define up to 4 database systems with the input help. Select Selection list if the index should only be created on the given database systems. Select Exclusion list if the index should not be created on the given database systems. Choose .
    8.Choose  activate.
    " Result
The secondary index is automatically created in the database during activation if the corresponding table was already created there and index creation was not excluded for the database system.
You can find information about the activation flow in the activation log, which you can call with Utilities ® Activation log. If errors occurred when activating the index, the activation log is automatically displayed.
" How to Check if an Index is Used
    Procedure
1.Open a second session and choose System -> Utilities ->Performance trace.
    The Trace Requests screen appears.
    2.Select Trace on.
The SQL trace is activated for your user, that is all the database operations under your user are recorded.
3.In the first window, perform the action in which the index should be used.
If your database system uses a cost-based optimizer, you should perform this action with as representative data as possible. A cost-based optimizer tries to determine the best index based on the statistics.
4.In the second session, choose Trace off and then Trace list.
    Result
The format of the generated output depends on the database system used. You can determine the index that the database used for your action with the EXPLAIN function for the critical statements (PREPARE, OPEN, REPOPEN).
" What to Keep in Mind for Secondary Indexes
How well an existing index supports data selection from a table largely depends on whether the data selected with the index represents the data that will ultimately be selected. This can best be shown using an example.
    ' Example  :
An index is defined on fields FIELD1, FIELD2, FIELD3 and FIELD4 of table BSPTAB in this order. This table is accessed with the SELECT statement:
    SELECT * FROM BSPTAB WHERE FIELD1 = X1 AND FIELD2 = X2 AND FIELD4= X4.
Since FIELD3 is not specified more exactly, only the index sorting up to FIELD2 is of any use. If the database system accesses the data using this index, it will quickly find all the records for which FIELD1 = X1 and FIELD2 = X2. You then have to select all the records for which FIELD4 = X4 from this set.
The order of the fields in the index is very important for the accessing speed. The first fields should be those which have constant values for a large number of selections. During selection, an index is only of use up to the first unspecified field.
Only those fields that significantly restrict the set of results in a selection make sense for an index.
Reward  points if it is usefull.....

0004 Document to delete/update was not found The document that was prepared for deindexing or an incorrect document ID or document name. You must check whether there is a document in the index or on the harddisk (as URL) with the corresponding ID. For non Portal scenarios this error means: "document can not be found". If you use Content Server please check this document for consistency.
0008 index is corrupted. Must be deleted/repaired by hand An error occurred when the system tried to delete the index. The corresponding entry was deleted from bartho.ini, but the index still exists. Solution: 1. Stop the TREXServices. 2. Delete the index directory and the entries in bartho.ini, TREXIndexServer.ini and TREXTcpipClient.ini manually. 3. Start the TREXServices 4. if necessary delete index in R/3 system (for non Portal scenarios) and clean tables.
0010 not enough space available for index creation There is no disk space available for creating a new index. You must chose another disk for the index. (The trace files might be occupying to much diskspace. If so, they have to be deleted.)
0011 specified language is unknown or not supported You must check whether the chosen language is supported by TREX and whether the language ID has been entered correctly. You must check also if these languages have been chosen correctly during the TREX installation.
0012 directory creation failed An index with the same name has already been created, and an error occurred when the index with the same ID was created again. The old index was not correct deleted :empty index directory still exists. Solution: 1. Stop the TREX Services. 2. Delete the index directory manually. 3. Start TREX Services again.
0013 directory removal failed The index directory could not be deleted correctly. This may be because there is a file missing from the index directory, or the index might be locked by another process. Solution: 1. Stop the TREX Services. 2. 0016 an operation has failed on a file (create, delete, copy, move...) This error occurs when the system tries to delete an index that is locked by another process. Solution: 1. Stop the TREX Services. 2. Delete the index directory and the entry in bartho.ini,TREXIndexServer.ini and in TREXTcpipClient.ini manually. 3. Start the TREX Services
0018 a received argument has an invalid value This problem can be occurred for example if Search Request is not correct.
0020 unspecified win32/unix system error The error occurs when the system tries to index an index that has already been partially deleted. Solution: 1. Stop the TREX Services. 2. Delete the index directory and the entry in bartho.ini,TREXIndexServer.ini and in TREXTcpipClient.ini manually. 3. Start the TREX Services
0022 automatic index optimization failed This error can occur when another document is indexed by a URL in an index for an existing document. Afterwards the index is no longer available. Solution: 1. Stop the TREX Services. 2. Delete the index directory and the entry in bartho.ini,TREXIndexServer.ini and in TREXTcpipClient.ini manually. 3. Start the TREX Services

  • IDES system copy ..error during IMPORT_ABAP..unable to create indexes

    Hi all,
I am doing a IDES system copy. I ran the report SMIGR_CREATE_DLL , the export activities have been completed successfully as well on the source system. Now on the target system, during the import, I am getting the following error in the log file SAPDFACT.log.

The owner for this table is SAPSR3. Some oracle forums suggested to drop the index before recreating it. But when i do "drop index SAPSR3."/BI0/E0RSTT_C06~P..it says.."the specified index does not exist". But when I go to recreate this index, it doesn get created successfully. After that when I re-run the import, it again fails. Suprisingly..now if i go to check if this index is present thru a sql querry:
select owner, object_name, object_type from dba_objects where object_name='SAPSR3."/BI0/E0RSTT_C06~P"', it tells "no rows selected". This is happening everytime, I create an index, where it gets created successfully, and the import again fails with the same error in SAPDFACT.log.
I found an SAP note 885441 named..common errors during migration..although mine isnt a migration..my both source and destination are Red hat 64 bit platform.
The note 1st asks to download the latest R3load..which I did and extracted in the kernel directory of the source..then it also asked to edit the .TSK file..in my case..SAPDFACT.TSK..where the lines:
    I /BIC/E<Cubename>~<index> C err
    to  I /BIC/E<Cubename>~<index> C ign..
I did that..this time..the import again fails..but in the SAPDFACT.log..it complains about some other index..n the same gets generated in the .TSK file as well..the earlier index error is not again generated.
I am not sure..what is going wrong..my export went through successfully.i have done the prep steps for export as well..before that i ran the SMIGR_CREATE_DLL report as well..
    Any inputs are highly appreciated..
    Thanks,

  • How to create index file for pdf.

    Hello,
I need to create a plugin which will read a list of pdf files and then create a full text index with catalog. I searched on net and came to know about the catalog plugin which does this work.In AV layer there is a catalog object but I am unable to find any example on net which uses the catalog object to create the pdx file and a support folder(contains idx files).
I also read the java script documentation but there was no example for creating index. We can build index but for that we need to retrieve the index object first.
    Can somebody please giude me.
    Thanks!

    Hi Irosenth,
Is it possible to use DOM/IAC to create index files. The example given in SDK(SearchPdfVB) allows us to add, remove, enable and disable index files. But there is no method given in example to create an index file.
I want to create index file and the supporting folder which contains .idx files automatically ie through code. Is it possible to do so??
I also looked into the AVCommands but couldn't understand how to create the index files using AVCommands.
    Can you please guide me.

    4. in the dialog displayed select the icon create.
    5. specify the name for the index to be created ( should start with Z)
    6. screen for specify the index fields will appear, specify the details based on your requirement.
    Note:
1.creating an index will created a sorted  copy of the DB table with data  with limited fields
    2. Try using already created indexes , only if necessary create new index

  • Creating index for standard SAP tables

    Hi!
What are the advantages and disadvantages of creating addtional indexes for tables with massive amount of data (BSEG, BKPF, COEP, etc...).
If I create a new index it supposed to make the table access faster, for the cost of hard disk space.
    Am I right?
    Thank you
    Tamá

    Hi,
    Primary and secondary indexes
Index: Technical key of a database table.
Primary index: The primary index contains the key fields of the table and a pointer to the non-key fields of the table. The primary index is created automatically when the table is created in the database.
Secondary index: Additional indexes could be created considering the most frequently accessed dimensions of the table.
    Structure of an Index
An index can be used to speed up the selection of data records from a table.
An index can be considered to be a copy of a database table reduced to certain fields. The data is stored in sorted form in this copy. This sorting permits fast access to the records of the table (for example using a binary search). Not all of the fields of the table are contained in the index. The index also contains a pointer from the index entry to the corresponding table entry to permit all the field contents to be read.
When creating indexes, please note that:
An index can only be used up to the last specified field in the selection! The fields which are specified in the WHERE clause for a large number of selections should be in the first position.
Only those fields whose values significantly restrict the amount of data are meaningful in an index.
When you change a data record of a table, you must adjust the index sorting. Tables whose contents are frequently changed therefore should not have too many indexes.
Make sure that the indexes on a table are as disjunctive as possible.
(That is they should contain as few fields in common as possible. If two indexes on a table have a large number of common fields, this could make it more difficult for the optimizer to choose the most selective index.)
    Accessing tables using Indexes
The database optimizer decides which index on the table should be used by the database to access data records.
You must distinguish between the primary index and secondary indexes of a table. The primary index contains the key fields of the table. The primary index is automatically created in the database when the table is activated. If a large table is frequently accessed such that it is not possible to apply primary index sorting, you should create secondary indexes for the table.
The indexes on a table have a three-character index ID. '0' is reserved for the primary index. Customers can create their own indexes on SAP tables; their IDs must begin with Y or Z.
If the index fields have key function, i.e. they already uniquely identify each record of the table, an index can be called a unique index. This ensures that there are no duplicate index fields in the database.
When you define a secondary index in the ABAP Dictionary, you can specify whether it should be created on the database when it is activated. Some indexes only result in a gain in performance for certain database systems. You can therefore specify a list of database systems when you define an index. The index is then only created on the specified database systems when activated

  • Create Index Workflow

We are just finished designing a book for a client, the text og layout is apporoved and just the index is missing.
What i'm looking for is some tips on how to go on with the indexing. Of course an editor that really knows the content must decide what to index, and where in the book the different topics should refer to. So what is the easiest way for me to get the list of topics and page references?
The client now has an PDF with the book, is there anywhere in Acrobat they could place like index markers or something?
Or would you suggest that they print the book, and make markers on paper about where the index marker should go, and what the topic should be called? Or is there an easier more automatic way of doing this?
Any suggestions here would be appriciated :)

    Hi,
What I mean is that within a task, you can find detail steps. There is not only ETL process but alos index drop and creation processes.
    Ex)
    drop index xxxx1
    drop index xxxx2
    drop index xxxx3
    SDE_ORA_SalesProductDimensoin
    create index xxx1
    create index xxx2
    create index xxx3
But if I create an Execution Plan on my own with the same ETL tasks.
I don't see index drop creation process within the task but only ETL process itself.

  • Create Index to use Like Clause

    Hi All,
I want one of my query to use a index which runs with a LIKE Clause. I have not done that before but i have heard and seen through forums that its possible to create indexes for a column with Like Clause using function based index.
    Function
Request the forum users to achieve my objective. Let me list down what i have done.
    Function
CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION RND_LIKE(P_NO IN VARCHAR2)
    RETURN VARCHAR2 IS
    RESULT VARCHAR2(240);
    BEGIN
    RETURN P_NO||'%';
    END RND_LIKE;
SELECT ENAME FROM EMP WHERE ENAME LIKE RND_LIKE('A')
Here based on this function i want to create a function based index and force the same to my query. Request the forum users to help me out in this.
    Thanks

In the case you had there , Oracle would use an index on ename in a query if you were to type A% in the ename item on a Form. You wouldn't need a function index for that.
Here's the link to the documentation to create a function based index http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28310/indexes003.htm#i1006674

  • How to create index not unique at the time of the CREATE TABLE

    Hi,
I am trying to find out how in Oracle create secondary indexes that can accept duplicated into the CREATE TABLE statement, without have to execute a CREATE INDEX separately.
As far I can see the only syntax accepted by Oracle 9i to create more than one index at the time of the table creation is:
    CREATE TABLE test_tab (x INTEGER, y INTEGER, z INTEGER PRIMARY KEY(x,y), UNIQUE(z))
But, in my case I need to have the unicity only for the primary key, but not for the second index, that I would like to have not unique.
How to do that inside of the CREATE TABLE statement?
    Any help?
    Thanks a lot in advance.

To create an index automatically (not constraint related) , you will need to have an 'event' trigger on the schema that will (IE: detecting a table create/drop matching ARCHIVE_%) , generate the appropriate SQL required (create index sql) and pass THAT to a DBMS_JOB.
Make sure you have job queue's enabled.
This was the ONLY way that I could re-create a view automatically as new tables were created that matched a criteria IE ARCHIVE_JAN06, ARCHIVE_FEB06 etc.
The application's "archiving" method created and was thus aware of these tables and permitted searching within 'archived' data, but 3rd party reporting applications needed to see a view encompassing all data, regardless of the tables involved. The view automatically created was a 'union_all' of all tables concerned.
