Autonumber and text in separate frames affects PDF bookmarks

Since making a forced return in an autonumber specification does not work, I tried the solution of making the chapter heading span two text frames. The first frame is very small to handle only the one or two digits of the chapter number and a space, while the second frame is the normal text column where the chapter title is displayed. This setup allowed me to make the chapter number and heading right-adjusted on the page so that users scanning through pages can more easily find the beginning of a chapter at the outer right edge. I connected the two text frames so that they are part of the same Flow A. The autonumbering for the chapter heading was unchanged. I used the specification:
H:<$chapnum>\sn
Basically, this is a heading series with the <$chapnum> followed by an en space, which, after testing, provided the proper spacing after the number to force the chapter title to the next frame.
The solution looks good in the document, in references to the chapter title, and in the TOC. The only problem is that when I print the book to PostScript and use Distiller to generate the PDF file, the PDF bookmarks have a doubled chapter number, as in:
1 1 Introduction
2 2 Getting Started
3 3 Using the Interface
I can delete the duplicated numbers manually, but I would like a way to prevent them from appearing. I don't understand why Acrobat is adding the extra chapter number when it appears nowhere duplicated within the FrameMaker process.
Any solutions?

  • Images and text blacked out upon joining pdfs and saving

    Hola all,
Let me preface this by saying I'm a complete noob to Acrobat, so sorry if this will be a stupid question.
Currently I'm attempting to join two pdfs together for a product on a few of my websites, upon doing so certain sections of the PDF are blacked out and the images are scrambled... I didn't have this issue with the Acrobat Pro 8 that was on my old system, but the most recent release (11.0.07) is causing issues.  Am I missing a setting somewhere?  It was pretty random doing this prior to today, now it seems to do it every time.  The blacked out areas are fine prior to saving, but as soon as I save, close, reopen it does this.
Original on the right, final product on the left...
    Thanks in advance

    Tools -> insert from file
But it doesn't matter, actually I can just save the larger of the 2 files and it creates the same issue, worked with support yesterday and they had me print to PDF the PDF causing an issue and it was fine after that.
No answer on why exactly.  Just an extra step I guess I'll have to take...

  • The signatures and text in my digitally signed pdf are garbled

How do I convert this type of document to word using the adobe converter without it coming out garbled. The signatures show as weird text.

You can't expect digital signatures to convert into anything useful in Word. That's the point of them really.

  • I'd like to have the tabs left-aligned, as they used to be, and in a separate toolbar from my bookmarks. Right now they're combined, and the tabs are off to the right. Can't find a way to change it.

Trying to figure out how to have the bookmarks in a separate toolbar above any open tabs, and get the tabs back over to the left side of the screen, where (I think) they belong! I'm on Windows XP/SP3 and Firefox 6.0.1.

Open the Firefox SafeMode and select '''Reset Toolbars and Conrols''' - ('''''only''''') and then hit the '''''"Make Changes and Restart"''''' button

  • How can I avoid having "XE index" entries in the pdf bookmarks frame?

    Hi,
I try to use RH9 to create a pdf file, but the contents (= bookmarks) frame looks like this:
    1 Heading 1
    2 XE "Index word 1" /* MERGEFORMAT Heading 2
3 XE "Index word 2" /* MERGEFORMAT XE "Index word 3" /* MERGEFORMAT XE "Index word 4" /* MERGEFORMAT Heading 3
    4 XE "Index word 5" /* MERGEFORMAT Heading 5
Apart from the apalling look, these bookmarks jump somewhere, but not to the given topic.
I know I could create a Word document instead and fix the headings there, but I am trying to delete this step from my workflow, because it is to time-consuming.
    Thank you for any suggestions!
    Irina

On second look, no:  The same .dot - now hiding all formatting and special characters - results in a pdf-bookmarks (=TOC) frame
    a) without index entries, if the ssl hasn't checked the option "Keep HTML Heading levels" and
    b) with index entries, if the ssl has checked the option "Keep HTML Heading levels"
      a)  b)
    1) Any ideas, why setting this option results in a frame showing things which are hidden in the .dot file?
    2) Would an update to RH9 help? (I am very much hesitating this step since I've tried RH9 and found it corrupts all my conditional tags.)
    Thanx in advance,
    Irina

  • Name Exported PDFs with text from a frame on each page

Does anyone have an idea how to do the following
I plan on creating a document of say 100 pages. On each page will be a photo of a product and some text frames. In one of the frames will be the product's SKU code - which we will enter manually.
What I want is that we can then export each page as a separate PDF and the filename of each PDF will be taken from the SKU code present in the text frame with .pdf appended.
Has anyone done something like this?
    Thanks

  • PDF to InDesign and text threads

I have only a PDF of a 300+ page book. I tried using the PDF2ID plug-in to transfer to InDesign CS3, and it looks clean. However, each page comes in as a separate, unthreaded text block. Is there some way to thread all the pages at once?
The book is pretty much straight text.
Alternatively, are there other plug-ins that would do the job?
    Thanks,
    Gail

PDF to InDesign and text threads
    Hi Sandee,
Thanks for your quick answer. I tried the trial version and couldn't get the text frames to link so I wrote to recosoft and got the very puzzling answer below. So I'm wondering how this works. Would you know or would you know the direct contact of the gentleman who spoke at the InDesign meeting in SF in January?
    Thanks,
    Gail

    > linked.
Text Frame linking is only performed within a page and that also PDF2ID has
to perform responsible Text Frame linking otherwise frames that shouldn't be
    linked will.
A PDF file doesn't contain any kind of text frame linking information.
PDF2ID makes this on its own.

  • Appleworks: word count, footnotes and text frames.

    Hi there!
Does anybody know if footnotes and text boxes are automatically included in a word processing document word count? If they are, is there a way of excluding these from the word count? Am writing a 12,000 word dissertation, and footnotes and illustration references (which I have put in separate text frames)don't count towards this figure, but some of mine are huge so I'm worried about them distorting the word count.
    Thanks
    ibook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

AppleWorks offers an option to Count Selection in the Word Count dialogue. Click in the main body of the text, then press command-A to select all. Then go Edit > Writing tools... > Word count... In the dialogue, click the Count Selection checkbox, and you'll notice the count goes down.
Unfortunately, this eliminates only the words contained in Text frames, which, as objects, aren't selected along with the text. Footnotes are included in the text selection, and are included in the count.
To eliminate footnotes (and text in frames) from the count do this:
•Click in the body text and Select All (command-A)\
    •Copy (command-C)
•Open a new (temporary) word processor document
    •Paste (command-V)
    •Find/Change (command-F)
--in Find, enter "\f" (without the quotes) (\f is the marker for a footnote)
    --leave Change empty
--Click Change All, then OK the warning and the alert telling you how many changes were made.
    •Go Edit > Writing tools...> Word Count.
•Close the temporary document without saving.
The process copies the main text and footnotes to a new document, then removes all of the footnotes before you do the word count.

    Barry

  • Saving report as PDF and text file

Currently, I saved my report as PDF. It opens in Acrobat reader automatically when the report is executed. Is there a way for me to save it as PDF and as a text file at the same time? (without having to open the file in Acrobat reader and saving it)

You can add your PDF and TEXT file formats to a distribution list (Instead of GENERATE REPORT TO A FILE). To do this:
    1. Go to your Object Navigator and highlight your report.
    2. Right click on your report. Select Property Palette.
    3. Select Distribution
    4. You can add of of the formats that you want to print or save to the report to.
    5. You will have to add Distribution Id (any number starting with 1) where you want the file to be saved (c:\my_reports\inventory.pdf), the type of file: PDF and how many copies you want: 2
    6. Click OK after finishing...
To make it work ... You would highlight your report from your Object Navigator and then choose FILE-DISTRIBUTE and this will save it to all the files your specified and/or printer.

  • Report Title and Text Area issue when exported to pdf using Viewer

    Hi there,
We are using OracleBI Discoverer Version 10.1.2.55.26
We have reports that displays Report title containing the following
    - Report Title
    - Runt Date and Time
    - Page No
And text area which displays 'Last Page'
Following properties are set at the worksheet level using page setup
Report Title --> 'Print on every Page'
Text Area --> 'Print on last page'
The report when exported to PDF using Discoverer plus works fine and displays report title and text area as defeined.
But when we try to export the same report to pdf from Discoverer viewer, it displays
    - Report title on first page only.
    - text area on all pages
All our users accesses report using discoverer viewer so we cannot open discoverer plus to them.
Is there a solution which will enable us to export the report in pdf using discoverer viewer and displays the same output as discoverer plus.
Please let me know... If you have any questions then please feel free to ask.
Thanks in advance for your help...

but when opened on other os x machines some text is colored differently than it should be
Well, if typographic objects are colour managed, the colour appearance is dependent on the source ICC profile that describes the colourants in the typographic objects and the destination ICC profile that describes the colours the display is able to form and the RBC colourant combinations that will form those colours.
In general, typographic objects should have special treatment, since the expectation is not that typographic objects should be colour managed, but that typographic objects should simple be set to the maximum density of dark. On a display, that is R=0 G=0 B=0 and on a seperations device (a lithographic press) that is C=0 M=0 Y=0 K=100.
If for some reason typographic objects are colour managed, and if the ICC profiles for the displays are off by half a mile or more in relation to the actual state of the display system, then the colours will not be the same. On the other hand, if those displays are calibrated and characterized, then the colourants will be converted to form the same colours on the displays.

  • Images in PDF file being converted into Word elements (e.g. tables and text boxes)

A friend of mine has recently signed up to ExportPDF so that he can convert PDF format wiring diagrams into Word format.  On trying this the other day, we found that the wiring diagrams in the PDF file were being converted into elements of Word such as tables and text boxes.
Is there any way to get the diagrams converted into pictures within the Word document so that they can be copied and pasted into other documents?  From looking at the limited settings panel to the right of the document in Reader I can't see it.

Perhaps an application dedicated to converting PDF's to Word documents may get better results.

Looking to create editable PDF forms with drop downs and text boxes for use on a Mac computer and iPad. Which product do I need to purchase? Do not need anything fancy

Basically you would need Acrobat. However, it is now also possible to create basic form fields using just the free Reader. In fact, I've been working on a tool that allows you to do it, so if you're interested in it please contact me privately.

  • How to create a plugin to stamp texts and not an image into a pdf document

How to create plugin to stamp texts and not an image.. i just want it to work like the stamper plugin found in sdk sample but here i need text to be stamped instead of an image.. Is it possible? kindly give me some ideas?how to go about it.. can this be done by modfying the stamper sample code?
    Thank you

This is possible, but it is a serious project, not something to be cut around from sample code. You will need to study the "graphics" and "text" chapters of the PDF specification in some detail to understand the PDF graphics model, including colour spaces, graphics state, and transformation matrixes; if working with annotations understand them and the requirement for appearance stream. There are various ways to add content to a PDF, but the PDFEdit API is probably the most accessible.
