Back from AS3 code into manual adjustment of properties

Halo.
Assuming that I change some properties of an DisplayObject on Stage via AS3 code (for example with the use of Tweener).
In that situation the DisplayObject won't respond any more to manual changes made via Properties Panel and keyframes on Timeline.
So, is there any way to make the Display Object again vulnerable for keyframes?
PS: MyDisplayObject = null; unfortunately is not a solution in this case.
Regards

Not that I know of. Actionscript trumps the timeline. Once you have changed a property, either by changing that property at a keyframe or by Actionscript, that property is changed and will not revert to some earlier state.

• How to use .as files from AS3 project into Flex project

I'm new.
I created a ActionScript 3 project
I created 2 .as files, which put up a Sprite which moved around. It worked fine.
Now, I want to put that onto my web-site.
So I created a Flex Builder 3 project.
I moved those 2 .as files into it.
I added code to access and display the moving Sprite.
But, each attempt gave me an empty screen.
My main confusion is the following:
I have class BaseClass in file 1
and SubBaseClass extends BaseClass in file 2.
Within the Flex project .mxml file, how do I reference the SubBaseClass so that the object will appear?
I tried things like:
<mx:Application ... completionComplete="init()" >
<mx:Script>
<![CDATA[
public function init():void
var myclass:SubBaseClass = new SubBaseClass();
addChild(myclass);
etc (ending stuff)
What do I need to do to make this work
Thanks

• HT201302 Moving photos back from 4S to a computer?

I synced photos from my computer to my 4S. Since then I have moved the photos in the computer to different files. Now I have upgraded to a 5S. Is there any way to take the photos back from the 4S into the computer and then sync them to the 5S?
This would also be relevant if your computer crashed and the only copies were on an iPhone.

The photos sync from iTunes on your computer is a one way process each time you sync. It uses the current settings in iTunes for what pictures you want to sync and makes the phone match that setting. It will delete any previously synced pictures from the phone if they are not on the computer or not included in the current iTune setting of what pictures to sync.
It is definitely not a good way to back up the pictures on your computer.
The following quote from http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4236 does give one way to get pictures back when the only copy is one that was previously synced:
You can't reimport pictures synced from your computer to your device back to your computer. You can only import pictures in the Camera Roll or Saved Photos from your device to your computer. If you need to retrieve synced photos from your device:
Email them from the device to yourself.
Copy them from the emails to your computer.
From your description, it might be easier to change the iTunes settings to include the current locations of the pictures on the computer and/or rearrange them on the computer to make syncing them easier. If using a Mac with iPhoto, Albums in iPhoto is a convenient way to organize what you want to sync without moving the photos from their original Events or locations. If using a Windows PC and you have an organization structure of folders that doesn't make selecting just some to sync, you may want to make copies and move the copies to another folder structure that is more organizied to facilitate syncing.

• Dummy Guide needed for converting AS2 code into AS3

I have to convert my existing AS2 code into AS3, but I might as well be reading chinese. I never even began to learn AS3, it was still fairly new at the time and the class ended before we had an opportunity to even touch on it. My major was not web design, it was the print side of design. I took an additional class, after I graduated, to learn web design and our teacher told us, basically, that we were designers, not coders so we won't be getting much into actionscripting, beyond the basics. At the time I was relieved, but looking back, I really wish we would have gotten more into it. Bottom line, I need to learn now.
Is there ANYONE that can help me out? I will list my code below, buy I am way beyond lost any help that can be provided, I would be so grateful!!!!
On the main timeline I have the basic..
stop(); -- I found the AS3 version, but I don't know what I'm looking at. I get "not_yet_set.stop()" and there are are 8 options I can choose from. I just want the timeline to stop until I tell it where to go next. And what is "not_yet_set"
Then I have my buttons, which are, basically...
on (release) {
gotoAndStop("Home");
Or "gotoAndPlay("Whatever");"
I also have buttons for scrolling...
on (press) {
play();
on (release) {
stop();
AND
on (press) {
_root.AboutMe_Controller.gotoAndPlay(…
on (release) {
_root.AboutMe_Controller.gotoAndStop(…
For the on(release) command, this is what I found as the AS3 version: not_set_yet.dispatchEvent()

because that's really as1 code, you have steeper learning curve than going from as2 to as3.
first, remove all code from objects, assign instance names to your buttons and you can then start on as3:
// so, if you name your home button, home_btn:
home_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,homeF);
function homeF(e:MouseEvent):void{
gotoAndStop("Home");
p.s. the not_yet_set stuff is there because you tried to use script assist or some other actionscript shortcut.

• How do I manually enter code into an iweb page??

iweb blogging is not bad; but there are times when I want to enter html code by hand; maybe a form script or CSS code.
I tried inputting the code into the blog.html page, but it will vanish every time I update iweb.
So; how can I manually add code to an iweb page? Surely this is possible?
thanks

Of course it's possible. Lots of us do that on our pages already. Two things to keep in mind...1. No way to do this via iWeb directly, so it involves editing the published html files, and 2. Because iWeb republishes the html files whenever you update the your webpage, you will lose your changes and have to redo them to add your HTML back.
The general directions are as follows (using banner code as an example)...
1. Decide where you want your banner and know exactly what dimensions you need.
2. Insert a text box onto your page and adjust its size to exactly your dimensions.
3. Type in some uniquely identifiable text like, "BANNERCODEHERE" without changing the font or anything else...just type it in.
4. Publish your page with iWeb.
5. Find the html file associated with your published page (either on your iDisk or in a folder depending on how you published) and open it in any text editor (like Microsoft Word, or Textedit, or anything).
6. Scroll through the html file and locate your placeholder text, e.g. "BANNERCODEHERE".
7. Replace the placeholder text with your html code and publish your page.
That's it. You should see your html coded element show up where you placed the text box.
If any of this information is useful to you, please do me a favor and mark my reply as "solved" or "helpful" using the little buttons that you see in the title bar of this reply. I would appreciate it immensely. Thank you.

• How do I get the music back on my iPhone after manually deleting it from the device (to get space for photos/videos)?

How do I get the music back on my iPhone after manually deleting it from the device (to get space for photos/videos)? I can sync with iTunes but it doesn't copy these songs back, even though they still appear in my iTunes library. I can click on the Music link under 'On My Device' in iTunes and the missing songs all appear to still be on the device, but they are not. I normally delete using iTunes and do not have this issue. This time I was out and needed more space to shoot photos and videos so I removed a lot of music from my phone through the Music App.

The songs I'm trying to reload on my phone are on my PC. These we had loaded into iTunes. I can remove them all from the library and then add them all back one by one I imagine. The problem I'm having is that I removed them manually from the phone, they still appear in iTunes music library yet they won't sync. I don't want to take the time to compare the phone to my library, remove from the library what's missing on the phone and then add them all back again. 64GB (mostly music) will take a while.

• Calling from an EJB into a JSF Backing Bean

Hello all,
I'm looking for some help in making calls from an EJB into a Backing Bean (the converse is fairly straightforward). My basic question is: what is regarded as the best way to do this?
However, for anybody who's interested, I'll describe what I've been trying...
Here's my situation (I'm working with OC4J 10.1.3.2). I have a simple application-scoped backing bean:
public class BackingBean implements SimpleInterface, Serializable {
private String greeting = "Hello, World";
private SessionEJBRemote blBeanRemote = null;
public BackingBean() {
// get hold of EJB
// [ ... code to obtain EJB's remote interface snipped ... ]
// set the callback with the EJB
try {
blBeanRemote.setCallback(this);
} catch (Exception ex) {
ex.printStackTrace();
// methods to manipulate the greeting string
public String getGreeting() {
return greeting;
public void setGreeting(String greeting) {
this.greeting = greeting;
}SimpleInterface, which my Backing Bean implements is, well, a simple interface:
public interface SimpleInterface {
public void setGreeting(String greeting);
}And my EJB is also pretty straightforward:
@Stateful(name="SessionEJB")
public class SessionEJBBean implements SessionEJBRemote, SessionEJBLocal {
private SimpleInterface callback = null;
public void setCallback(SimpleInterface callback) {
this.callback = callback;
callback.setGreeting("Goodbye, World");
}Now, by using SimpleInterface, my intention was to ensure a one-way dependency: i.e. the JSF-level code would depend on the EJB-level code, but not vice versa.
However, my experimentation has shown that when I make the call to blBeanRemote.setCallback, the parameter appears to be passed by value rather than by reference. This means firstly that, at runtime, by EJB needs to have access to my backing bean class and secondly, that the call to callback.setGreeting has no effect.
Can anybody suggest how to work around this? Is it possible to pass the backing bean by reference? Is there a better way to achieve this callback? I appreciate that these questions might be more general Java/AppServer queries rather than JSF-specific ones - but hopefully this is something that all you JSF experts have encountered before.
(Incidentally, I realise that what I'm doing in this example is pointless - what I'm building towards is using the ICEFaces framework to have the EJBs prod a backing bean which will in turn cause a user's browser to rerender.)
Many thanks - any help very much appreciated!
Alistair.

Hi Raymond - yes, you've pretty much got that spot on: an event occurs (say receipt of a JMS message - which is spontaneous, as far as the users are concerned). As a result of that event, the client's view (in their browser) needs to be re-rendered.
ICEFaces uses the AJAX technique to allow server-pushes, and rather than refreshing the whole page it uses "Direct-to-DOM" rendering to maninpulate the page components. If you've not come across it, and you're interested, then there are some pretty interesting demos here: http://www.icefaces.org/main/demos/ - the "chat" feature of the Auction Monitor demo (if you open it up in two browsers) is the nearest to the effect I'm looking for.
The Auction Monitor demo uses a number of session-scoped beans, each implementing the ICEFaces "Renderable" interface, and each of which registers itself with an application-scoped bean. The application-scoped bean can thus iterate through each of the session-scoped beans and cause the corresponding browser to refresh.
Unfortunately, in the Auction Monitor demo, the entry point is always from a browser - albeit the result is then mirrored across all connected browsers. I haven't found any examples of this processing being driven by an external event, hence my experimentation in this area!

• IWeb routing back from html snippet code

I have created my site in my local folder (sites/site). In the site I use a HTML snippet in which I pasted HTML code from JotForm in order to have a contact form. This worked fine. Then I published to web.me.com... and now every time I hit the submit button (HTML code) the routine runs perfect and an email is submitted to me but I don't come back to the site but get an error code: The requested URL /users/maartenlamers/sites/site/startpage.html was not found on this server. It seems that the routing pointer is set wrong... and I found no way of correcting this... Any suggestions are welcome...

I believe that JotForm allows you to get your visitors to return to a page of your site do they not? If so, then to correct this you need to go back to JotForm and alter the settings there. You created the form there, so you need to make alterations there. It's not an iWeb issue - all you did was enter the code into an html snippet.
Also, your url is not a correct url so of course it won't be found. Any url needs to start with http://web.me.com/users/maartenlamers/sites/site/startpage.html. If you leave out the web.me.com, then it won't find anything that is published because you have in fact missed out where the site is published, being web.me.com.
Go back to JotForm and alter it there and then re-enter the code into an html snippet and you should find that it will work.

• TS2530 When I put a burned cd from one Mac into another Mac, song titles do not show up! I have to enter them manually! My CD player reads the titles that i on the cd; how can I get my Mac to do so?

When I put a burned cd from one Mac into another Mac, song titles do not show up! I have to enter them manually! My CD player reads the titles that i on the cd; how can I get my Mac to do so?

The problem is that I burned these CD's myself from music that I added from my personal collection to iTunes. The INFO is ON the CD's (it appears perfectly when I put the CD in my Numark mixer...so I know the info is on the CD), but for some reason, my MAC PRO will NOT read the info on the burned CD when I place the CD into the MAC PRO. The CD was burned on a MAC that I no longer own. But there HAS to be a way to transfer songs from a burned CD with the INFO that is on the CD burned with iTunes.
PLEASE HELP!

Hi All, We are in to Release 11.5.10.2.There is a specific requirement to Prevent users from creating Manual Sales Orders in Oracle and yet users should be able to book the Sales Orders Imported from CRM system into Orcale.Please advise.

Thanks for your advise.
However, I missed to mention that we have two set of users One is for Finished Goods and another for Spares.
Only Spares users need to be prevented from creating Direct/Manual Sales Orders in Oracle.
As you suggested, if this will be done at Form level, that may Disallow FG users also to create Manula Sales Orders which should not be the case.
Further, I tried to test one scenario through Processing Constraints but it did not work.

• I got a new computer and some of my music apparently wasn't backed up to the external hard drive. I have some of the music that didn't save on an iphone. How do I move the music from the iPhone into my iTunes library on the computer?

I got a new computer and somehow have lost some of my more recently purchased and or imported music. I have some of that music on an iphone and some on an ipad. How do I get the music from those devices into my itunes library without losing everything else?

Some of the information below has subsequently appeared in a document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):
- Expod (free) - http://www.headlightsoft.com/expod/ - Mac, universal for 104.+ (newer machines try de-Tune)

Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141 - dates from 2008 and some outdated information now.
Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide - http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/copying-music-from-ipod-to-co mputer/ - Information about use in disk mode pertains only to older model iPods.

• How do you convert this code from AS3 to AS2?

Hi,
I created some AS3 code that is working perfectly for us.
However now we need to convert it to AS2 so that it can be Flash
Player 8 compatible. If it could also be compatible for Flash
Player 7 that would be ideal but not a requirement.
Thanks in advance.

Are you wanting someone to do the conversion for you, or are
you asking for general tips for doing the conversion yourself?
i can give you tips:
have a look at the
ActionScript
2.0 Migration page.
In this you'll find the property conversions eg(going from
AS3 to AS2). y becomes _y, height becomes _height, scaleX becomes
_xscale, void becomes Void etc.
you'll find that events need to be converted, eg.
particle.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,
animateParticle);
becomes:
particle.onEnterFrame=animateParticle;
the onEnterFrame class doesn't pass an Event parameter to the
event listener. Instead, the event listener is automatically in the
scope of the event dispatcher, so instead of 'event.target' you
will be able to just target 'this'.
You'll need to use setInterval() instead of the Timer class.
You'll need to use attachMovie() instead of
addChild().
