Backslash problem in property file

I have to read and update a value of a key in the property file.The value that the key holds is a url.or that i have used load and store method of property class.
But the problem is each time it writes back to property file a backslash is placed before (:) and the url becomes useless.
scp.dir=[email protected]:/opt/oracle/productbecomes
scp.dir=[email protected]\:/opt/oracle/productso i want to know is there any way to solve this problem.Do i want to read and write property file in any other way to avoid this problem

If you use the Properties class for writing, then it will write in a format that the Properties class understands.
So there's no problem if you read & write using the Properties class.
If you write using the Properties class and read using any other way, then you'll have to handle the escaping (as it's required by the Properties format specification).
How do you read the file and why is that backslash a problem?

  • Problem reading custom property file from custom event handler.

    Hi,
    My custom event handler needs some bits of information that I have set up in a property file. However, when the event handler runs it throws a FileNotFound exception - actually its because permission was denied.
    I have added the code System.getProperty("user.name") to find out the actual user that the event handler is running as. It reports that "oracle" is the user.
    That's great. However, the permissions on the file will allow oracle to read/write the file. If I log onto the server where OCDB runs (as oracle), I can vi the file.
    The file is owned by another user, but the "oracle" is a member of the group that has read/write (we're running on a unix box). The file is not 777.
    The event handler is actually calling a static utility method that returns the Properties. This utility is used elsewhere in other custom apps in conjunction with OCDB (on the same server). It works there, so the utility is functioning correctly.
    Is there something going on that I'm missing? Like somehow the event handler is acually runn as somebody else?
    Here is the node log.

    Matt,
    Sorry to have wasted your time. It was a server reboot issue. The ocdb server hasn't been restarted since early July. We added the users and groups late last week. Although we tested on line, the server wasn't quite up to speed with the new changes.
    We bounced the server and all is well.

  • Problem set parameters of PS (queries stored on a property file)

    I am wrinting a small jsp application and storing the queries that it will use in a property file. Some fields on the main form are optional. How I can "build" the query correctly (leaving out the conditions that weren't filled in the form)?
    I know it is trivial when you have the query on the page or class, but I can't think of a solution to keep storing the "dynamic" queries on a property file.
    Any ideais?

    I wanted to store all queries on the same file.
    I don't need to retrive the query, I already have it but based on the user decisions it will change. Consider a form with 3 fields: name, id and number, all of them are optional. If the user fills all fields the query will be:
    "SELECT id, nm, number
    FROM a_table
    WHERE id = 10
    AND nm = 'foo'
    AND num = '843'
    ORDER BY nm
    If the user fills only the "name" field the query will be:
    "SELECT id, nm, number
    FROM a_table
    AND nm = 'foo
    ORDER BY nm
    As I said in my first post, it is trivial to this when storing the query on a jsp page or class file, but is it possible to with a property file?
    thank you.

  • Error Reading Property File in Portal Component

    Hello,
    I have created a portal component that calls an api that is located in a jar file.  The documentation on the Portal Component Structure specifies putting the jar file in the PORTAL-INF/lib directory, which I have done.  The problem is, my jar file reads a property file using ResourceBundle, but it doesn't find the property file.  I have placed the property file in the jar file, and throughout the portal component structure, but it just can't find it.  Has anyone else done something similar?  If so, where did you put your property file(s) for external jars that are used in the portal component.

    Hi,

  • Open module for managing property file and environment variables

    Looking for an open module for managing property files and environment variables (like CLASSPATH) set in a shell script. For handeling properties (preserving comments, supporting includes, appending new entries, and more) I have looked at SuperProperties from openadaptor but find certain functionality lacking. As for interfacing with common shell scripts/files containing setting for CLASSPATH, JAVA_HOME, other system/application variables another type of object editor is needed. Maybe JFIG?
    Any ideas are greatly welcomed.

    You seem wright, you hit a brick wall here with Air to find the location
    of the command console on windows...
    So in fact I never build an exe tool, but this little problem was a nice
    case to test it and I tried it.:
    I downloaded monodevelop
    -GTK# for .NET 2.12.10*
    -MonoDevelop 2.4.2*
       from http://monodevelop.com/Download
    created a console project and had an exe in 5 minutes !
    You can download the findconsole tool and the projectfiles here:

    findconsole.exe will reveal the path/location of cmd.exe on a windows system.

  • How can you change property files of a EJB at Runtime?

    Hi,
    I have got an ejb and want to change my variables which I stored in property file at Runtime.
    But the property file isn´t in the jar-file of my ejb...
    How can I add it.
    Or How can I change the property file without new compilation.
    Thanks
    Uli

    Hi Uli,
    the previous post is generally correct, but without taking any part in the sensibility of this (there are valid reasons why you would not store the values in a DB) it would be necessary for you to be a bit more specific.
    Is your problem that you can not see the file from your EJB or that you don't know how to change a property file entry in general?

  • Character '\' is lost when reading a String from a property file.

    Hi all,
    I have encrypted information inside a property file, but when loading properties in my program, the String object used to store the value is changed by the lost of all \ characters
    # EIS password saved in the property file
    password=WPLqQE0DlVF8Sg\=\=
    #Value loaded in my String object
    WPLqQE0DlVF8Sg==
    Why is this happening? I use java.util.Properties java class to store and load my properties, and it is supposed to do it with the same encoding (ISO 8859-1).
    Please, can someone explain me why this happened and how to solve it?
    Best regards.

          public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException {
               OutputStream props = new FileOutputStream("test.properties");
               Properties p = new Properties();
               p.put("password", "pass=word#is!dumb");
               p.put("user", "    I am a Dummy");
               p.store(props, "Java forum demo props file");
               props.close();
               /* Properties file after store
                * user=\    I am a Dummy
                * password=pass\=word\#is\!dumb
               Properties post = new Properties();
               post.load(new FileInputStream("test.properties"));
               for(Iterator it = post.entrySet().iterator(); it.hasNext();)
                System.out.println(it.next());
                * After load from test.properties
                * user=    I am a Dummy
                * password=pass=word#is!dumb
          }Notice that the special chars are only in the file, not actually in the props. If you think otherwise, I don't know what to say. The \ is a special character that is used to escape other special chars, including itself. You can't create a string in java containing only one backslash, as java assumes the next char is being escaped. when you create a string in Java with one backslash, you have to have 2 backslashes. If you are storing data in the property file using something other than store, than you need to ensure that you are escaping all special charachters that the store method does

  • Error while reading a property file from a war.

    Hi,
    I am trying to read a property file which is available in the properties folder.
    The piece of code that does this read is as follows.
    InputStream is = ClassLoader.getSystemResourceAsStream("codemap.properties");
    System.out.println("Reading file:"+is);
    properties.load(is);
    The "codemap.properties" file is available in the properties folder.
    Following is my directory structure in the war file
    sample.war
    |
    |
    WEB-INF
    |
    |
    classes
    |
    |
    properties
    |
    |______ codemap.properties
    Inside the war file I have WEB-INF and properties folder.
    Inside WEB-INF i have the classes folder which has the classes
    Inside the properties folder I have the codemap.properties file.
    I am using Jboss. In the class path I have ./properties
    I have also added this classpath in the manifest file.
    Problem: The piece of code that I have written to read the property file is not able to locate the file and this it returns null.
    I am not sure what i am missing here.
    If anyone there have any solutions please let me know.
    Thanks in Advance
    Balaji.

    I think you've to change this line
    InputStream is = ClassLoader.getSystemResourceAsStream("codemap.properties");with this.
    InputStream is = ClassLoader.getSystemResourceAsStream("properties/codemap.properties");it is unable to find the path you specified. by default it'll check the WEB-INF directory. so you've to give the relative path to it.

  • Problems with properties files and war files in weblogic 5.1

              I work with WebLogic 5.1 and I'm trying to deploy a web application which gets
              a properties file. If I deploy it as an expanded directory hierarchy (with the

    This issue comes up repeatably. It's a real bug.
              I believe this problem was fixed in a 5.1 service pack, but I'm trying to
              find out the exact disposition of the issue. Noone seems to be complaining
              about this under 6.x, so a fix seems to have been made, the only question is
              whether or not it got back-ported to a 5.1 service pack.

  • Read from a property file which is in a zip

    I have the problem, that I cant read a property file in a zip. A class which I ca get in the same zip needs this property to init.
    I call this in a batchfile.
    The message is like:

    Path of the zip Path of the Property in zip
    Syntax or name or path are not correct.
    Where is the problem?
    Thanks in advance

    hm, am not sure I follow but
    it is not possible to instantiate the class. I only use this class. >Java will find the class in the same zip and path, but the property->File will not be loaded while a FileInputStream wonts to open it.FileInputStream can't be used to open a zipped file, you can get an InputStream from the ressources variable by using URL.openStream method and feed this into Properties.load
    if you post some code here that you are able to change, then people might be able to help more :)

  • Read a property file and store it in a hashmap

    Hi,
    I have tried to read a property file and store it in a hashmap. The property-names should be stored in keys and the property-values (after = symbol) in values of the hashmap. any ideas? Is it possible to do this?

    mandy2001ir wrote:
    yes, but I need the hashmap for another reason. Actually I'm trying to use the properties file to have a dynamic hachmap. I don't want to change the code anytime I want to put a value in the hashmap. therefor I write the "keys" and "values" in a property file and change the property file. That's the reasn why we have property files, isn't it?What's a "dynamic hashmap"? There's no other kind! Whenever someone starts bandying around the word "dynamic" in contexts like this, it usually means there's a simple solution to their problem, that they haven't yet considered, or mistakenly don't believe is applicable to them, because of this "unique" need for something "dynamic". Trust me, you just need to load the file using a Properties object, and you're done. Properties extends Hashtable, which is virtually the same thing as a HashMap. Properties does exactly what you want it to. it's the very reason the class exists
    Have you even looked at the javadoc for java.util.Properties yet? I'm betting not, because if you had, you'd know exactly what I meant. And since you haven't, I'm at a bit of a loss as to how you can so easily dismiss the class as useless, despite existing to do exactly what you need
