Backspace Key Clears Google Search Entry

I've noticed something very strange happening with my phone. For some reason when I come back to my Google Search field in Safari to edit a search and press the backspace key, it clears the entire entry. Sometimes I may just want to revise just one word and not the whole search, but pressing backspace just clears the whole field. Does anyone know whether this is a feature or just a bug in the OS?

I've seen this too. Maddening. Not consistent, but it happens often enough.
I usually press on the data entry field till the magnifying glass shows up and position the cursor that way, which seems to lessen the likelihood that the backspace (X) key will clobber everything.

  • How do you clear google search history

How do you clear google search history. I tried the clear history in settings and all the old searches are still there

In Safari, use the open book symbol to go to bookmarks. At the top of the list is "History", tap history and then tap the clear button on the bottom left of the screen.  That clears the search history as well.

  • Clear google search history

Well, i decided to create a new profile in Firefox 21, and using add ons compatibility reporter and check compatibility, i finally have the "clear search history" clearing when i click It, after searching, clears all searching history in the Google search bar and drop down. This may help others??

No question, i`m telling you how i solved the "clear Google search history" problem in the Google search bar and drop down, not "clear recent history"."'''Well, i decided to create a new profile in Firefox 21, and using add ons compatibility reporter and check compatibility, i finally have the "clear search history" clearing when i click It, after searching, clears all searching history in the Google search bar and drop down."''' see attachment again.

  • Google search entries change after entry, etc.

This may be hard to explain because there are so many things that happen when using the Google search engine page.
It is a recent problem, after upgrading to the most recent version (4.0). It did not happen before the upgrade.
    Here goes:
    * For example, I entered "singer private parties Maryland" in the search box. It changed the entry to "singer prince" which I did not enter.
    * Another example: I will return to a Google search page where I previously entered some search information but now want to search for something else. I erase the previous information and then begin to enter the new information. All of a sudden part or all o f the previous information I deleted reappear along with the new information intertwined.
Or, once I enter teh new information and do a search it gives me the search results of the previous (and now unwanted) search.

    http://www.google.com/advanced_search
works for me. I suggest you try clearing your browser cache and any cookies relating to that site.

  • Unable to clear Google search history in Safari

I am unable to clear old searches in Safari.  None of the following has any effect: using the clear recent searches button, totally resetting Safari, deleting all history and cache and trying to delete each individual search item manually, or by changing default search method.  These are old items, not recent searches, but they continue to show up in the recent search area.  It appears to be a bug.  Any ideas how to REALLY clear out the search cache?
    THANKS

Seem to have finally fixed it by deleting the safari plist entry.

  • SAFARI 6: how do I clear Google search history?

There used to be an option at the bottom of the scroll down search bar for CLEAR SEARCH.
Now that Safari 6 has adopted the single info bar, that option seems to have disappeared.
So how do I clear search history?
I don't want to clear all history (i.e. sites visited),
    just search history.

    Thank you,
but the point of my question was precisely that in 2012,
the way that Google is presented within Safari is different
(e.g., there is now just a single search bar),
so some of the info on the old threads is no longer relevant.
That is why I titled the qustion clearly "SAFARI 6".
However, I have discovered the answer myself.
I think I was being just too impatient.
The same option of CLEAR RECENT SEARCHES  does come up
if you click and hold on the magnifying glass icon to the left of what is now the single Google search bar.
This click and hold opens a roll-down menu, and near the bottom is the CLEAR RECENT SEARCHES option.

  • How to clear Google search history

    HI,
Ever since I updated to 2.1 it has been impossible to clear my Google search terms. Clearing the cache, cookies, etc in 'settings' has no effect.
Does anyone know how to clear them?

I'd try a reboot just to see if it fixes the issue.
    Try a reboot (described below).
Think of it this way, the iPhone is more of a computer than a phone. It suffers from being a new OS and nobody can deny there are not bugs and memory leaks. The longer left running, the more things start to fail or slow down (I have had the iPhone since day one of original phone and I am just speaking from my experience). Thus I equate it to like when Windows95 came out...not sure of your age or if you remember those days...but back then it was a running joke of how many days you can keep Windows 95 running before you had to reboot. I am sorry to say but the iPhone is the same way right now (but getting better with a few hiccups back during the 2.0 release). So for me, I reboot daily when I leave in the morning and take it off the charger. By doing so I rarely see any lag or problems.
    A reset/reboot is:
    Go to Home Screen
    Press and Hold Home Button
Keep holding and press and hold Lock Button
    Keep holding Both
You will see Slide to Turn Off (Don't let go to slide, just keep holding)
The phone will turn off (in time, but screen will look like it has some white lines)
    Keep Holding
When you see the Apple Logo, you can let go.
Turning off via the Slide to Turn off while good and fine to turn off, is more like the Sleep Mode on a computer. Thus any locked up issues in memory remain when you turn back on. A reboot as described is like doing a real Turn off and Turn On on a computer.
You may also wish to read this tread about reboots and odd application behavior.

  • Clear Google search history from Safari Toolbar (v.4.0.3 and up)

How to clear your search history. TEDIOUS but works.
*Delete Google results pages from the history*
In Safari 4.0.3 and up, you may now search your history. Search for the URL string www.google.com/search? and delete the records that match it.
*Clear the search strings from the toolbar*
Quit Safari then from the Terminal, run this command:
    defaults delete com.apple.safari RecentSearchStrings
When you start Safari again, the search history should be empty.
Somebody could probably build a shell script that searches the History.plist XML file and deletes the <dict> sections AND resets the Safari plist at the same time. I'm not that good with string manipulation, so I'm hoping somebody with experience could pick this up. Then that shell script could be made into an AppleScript or set up with Automator. Wishful thinking?

  • Clear Google Searches on the iPhone?

Hey I'm using the 1st gen iPhone with the newly updated v2.0 firmware. I am trying to figure out how to clear the search history on my google searches in the iPhone safari app. I know how to clear the browser history, but not the actual searches I have done. Does anyone know if this can be done?
    Thanks

    Here's how to do it:
    1. Tap settings (from home page)
    2. Tap safari, then clear the history, cookies, and cache using the buttons near the bottom of the page.
    3. Press the home button.
    4. Press and hold both the home and sleep/wake buttons for 10-12 seconds, until the screen flickers off. This will do a "soft reset" on your iphone, just like turning it on and off, but it also empties recently deleted items.
Note: You will NOT loose any of your prefs or data when doing a soft reset. Also, keep holding down even after you see the "Slide to Power off" screen, and then your iphone will reset a few seconds later.

  • Clearing Google Searchs!?

Hi, I left my MacBook with one of my friends at school while he was using it for a couple of minutes and he thought it would be hilarious if he searched for lots of 'inappropriate' content on google so it would all come up as a drop down when i search in google! (he's a funny guy!) Is there a way of clearing these searchs, I know you can clear the cache to remove them but this also clears all my passwords i have saved on my computer and getting the password for the school network is a real hassle so I don't want to so this... is there another way?
    thanks, matt

If he did this using the Google search box in the top right corner of the Safari window, you should be able to clear these searches by clicking on the tiny arrow next to the magnifying glass icon and choosing "Clear Recent Searches" from that menu.
If instead he was going to google.com, you can clear the searches that appear in that Google search box when you start typing by going to Safari->Preferences. Click on the "Autofill" tab, then the "Other Forms" button. There, scroll down until you find "google.com." Click on it to highlight it and click on the "Remove" button at the bottom of the Autofill window. The click "Done."
Clearing cache actually won't wipe out your passwords. Using the Safari->Empty Cache menu item wouldn't be a bad idea, actually. Even more, you might also want to clear the browsing history if he actually visited the sites he searched for, by using the History->Clear History menu option.

  • Clearing Google Search Results.

    Hello,
Does anyone know if it is possible to clear the results for previous searched google items when they automatically pop up in safari?
    Thanks!

I found this answer elsewhere in Discussions - It worked for me!
Clear it while in Safari by going to bookmarks, then "History," and then the "Clear" button in the bottom left.

  • How do I clear Google search history?

Using Safari 7.0.3 on MacBookPro. Recently upgraded to OSX 10.9.3
    Comined address and search bar.
It's annoying to see past search results as I'm secretly planning a trip with my husband and he's starting to notice my hotel queries...

From the Safari menu bar click Histroy > Clear History
Or, use Private Browsing. Back to the menu bar click Safari > Private Browsing

  • Google search bar in safari with SL

clear searches is now gone and google doesn't suggest any search terms as you type.

    HI,
Try resetting Safari and see if that help...
To reset Safari, choose Reset Safari from the Safari menu.
From here you can clear history, empty the cache, clear the downloads window, remove all cookies, remove all website icons, remove saved names and password, remove other AutoFill form text, clear Google searches, and close all Safari windows.
You can do these all at once, or one at a time to try to preserve items you want for convenience.

  • Google search history

    Hi,
My problem is, that I simply can't figure out how to clear Google search history from Google search field. I tried reinstalling Safari but records still seem to occour and obviously tend to be stored at some other place on my computer than Safari's deafalt folder (as they remain). Other help suggestion including that one with some com.apple.Safary.plist did not particularly work, I s'pose cause I have Vista not Mac
Does anybody have some smart hints?
    Please help! Thanx so much!

    Hi,
thank you very much. However, it did not work. But now I know, I should've been more accurate. Well, my problem is not with the google search field next the brosing field, but with my iGoogle engine. I know that Google has a private search history by account and I deleted all --- nothing happened. When trying to search something, I find keywords older than a month. Moreover, in fact, it is not just with Google but with any other sites where search is needed.
I simply don't know what to do! Any smart idea?

  • Reset Safari - clear google is missing

When I go to reset safari, the checkbox to clear google searches is missing.

That clears the recent searches, but does not restore the function.
There's something nagging in my memory that this problem happened on an earlier build of Safari. The solution then was a terminal command that restored the option.
could be wrong though. Can't find the old thread...
