Badges/What do those little icons mean

Is there a list someplace that will tell a person what all those little icons (badges) mean?

  • What do the little icons mean?!?!

    Hi,
A quick question, well 2 really!
I have a specially inquisitive client, who is always asking me difficult questions:
    1) In mail, what do the little icons mean that you sometimes get when opening an IMAP account. They look like little circles next to the inbox name - one has, like, 3 quarters filled in, the other has, maybe, 1/8th filled in... I can't find this information anywhere!
    2) Why does it take longer to show messages for IMAP accounts? I guess its because Mail is checking the synchronisation (or something else) between Mail and the IMAP server, but what's the official line?!?!
    Cheers!
    JS

    Hi James,
Since no-one else has replied I'll try to answer your question.
The circle you discribe is shown to the rightside of inbox when the Mail-app is connecting (retrieving) messages. Or when you click on another mail-box such as Trash or Junk. If it's not completing which it should then disappear, Apple suggests you go to DOT-MAC & read your mail there. This is because since the release of Tiger or mid 2005 Mail-app has difficulty reading unread mail from DOT-MAC! But I do find that if it's already open it can sort my in-coming Junk mail OK! And un-read messages. This answers your second question, I hope this helps.

What do the little icons in mail mean, is there a list of them somewhere?

If you mean the little icons next to the message like below.  It indicates you've replied to a message, an arrow going to the right means you've forwarded the message and a paper clip indicates an attachment.
Items on the toolbar can be identified by right clicking the toolbar and selecting icons with text.

  • What does this quicktime icon mean? Mysterious connection to audio preview in CS3

Can anybody tell me what this quicktime icon means in relation to imported .mov footage?
I'm using AfterEffects CS3, and working to solve an annoying mystery related to audio in RAM previews. I've got a workaround, but would love to get to the root of the matter.
In older projects, audio previews just fine. In recent projects, I can't get audio to work during RAM previews. I can hear scrubbed audio, and audio renders fine from the queue, but can't hear it during RAM previews. I'm working on an animation project.  Audio in RAM preview is crucial, dammit! YES, audio is enabled in the preview control preferences...
If I import an older AE project with working audio - PRESTO! Audio preview works fine again. WHY?
I've narrowed things down - the imported project will do the trick even if it contains noting but this (see icon) certain, earlier QT.mov file - which, ironically, has no audio of it's own.
I suspect the issue may be a Quicktime version or update version quirk. Probably solved if I updated my software to CS5, but can't afford that just now. ARGH.
    Any ideas? Thank you!

Audio is in AIFF format, and was created in the same time period and format as earlier projects, where it previewed just fine.
Photoshop files do not have the Quicktime icon, my workaround solution does.
I can get RAM audio preview working again -  IF I import an additional, older AE project from a time (June 2011) when audio preview was still working as expected. I experimented with those earlier AE projects, deleting various files until I narrowed it down to the following:
As long as the imported project includes a movie file with that goofy quicktime icon, audio RAM preview works. If not, no dice. The movie file in question is a tiny quicktime movie animation generated by AfterEffects (lossless, best settings) in the course of the previous project. It has no audio of its own.
So I have a workaround, but I'm curious. Why doesn't my audio RAM preview work in current projects, and what is it about this little, goofy-icon QT movie file that gets it working again?

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • What's this SUS icon mean?

In the Software Update service Updates list, I'm getting an exclamation mark in a blue circle in the "Restart required" column for those updates marked for copying.
I don't recall seeing this before. I see no errors in the log at present. There's no mention of this icon in the docs.
What's it mean? "Not copied (downloaded) yet"?
    ~ TG

    Hi
+"What's it mean? "Not copied (downloaded) yet?"+
Yes. You should also see a small gray circle by the side of it that will fill itself up (turn a light blue basically) when the exclamation mark disappears and the update has been downloaded.

  • What does this frame/icon mean?

I haven't been using InDesign for a few years, and have just started using it again. I am currently working on a document that someone else has worked on before me, and I am struggeling to figuere out what this one thing means.
At this one page, there is posted an image (.eps), as well as a picture from a pdf.file. These two are posted on top of eachother. The image has a purple (though i guess the colour is optional) frame around it, and an icon in the left of the upper line of the frame. The icon looks like two c's facing eachother, with a minus-sign in the middle.
Anyone know what this means, and the purpose of it?
Thanks in advance for any helpful answers.
    -G

The color of your frame depends on the layer, which hold your element. If you create a new document, the frame-color is probably blue, because layer 1 is blue.
The icon is new to CS6 and it is the linking icon. If your linked elements are missing or out of date, you get a alert there. If you want to relink something, you can simply click on this icon and do not need to find your picture in the links panel. So this icon is verry helpful. If you don’t like it, you can disable it under menue > View > Extras

  • What does the bulldozer icon mean?

    Hi,
I've noticed recently whilst my LV program is running the mouse pointer changes to a small bulldozer symbol.

What platform are you on? I have never seen the not-so-friendly bulldozer on Windows, but on LV2.2 for Macintosh it means/meant that you were running perilously short on RAM and LabVIEW is trying to reallocate memory. Usually, but not always, preceded a crash.

  • What do those exclamation marks mean?

Okay...I've had no trouble with iTunes until today. I went to play some songs and the exclamation icon came on with a message that "the song could not be used because the original file could not be found." I did an advanced search of my computer (search everywhere) and it can not be located. I checked the folder on my hard drive and it says the folder is empty? I had no problem before...did I do something wrong? Are those songs gone forever? Please help!

First, make sure of where your music is stored. Go to itunes Preferences & click on 'Advanced'. The default setting for storing music is on your hard-drive. Go to iTunes & click on the song. When the message comes up, click on 'Locate'. In the window that opens, click on your home icon, then 'Music', 'iTunes' (or wherever your music is stored), then (depending on which version of itunes you're running, click on 'Music' or 'iTunes Media'. Search through the artists until you find the one you're looking for, select the relevant album title and select the song. Is the song part of a compilation album? It might be stored in the 'Compilations' folder instead of under it's own artist. If it's not there, check the bin as a last resort. If it's not there I'm afraid it's gone...
