Batch/ Droplet processing images into separate folders.

Hi Guys,
I'm after some guidance with batch processing some images. I've recently finished a catalog with 700+ images and I'd like to create an index for future use.
I would like to have an action which allows me to save a general purpose size image for e-mailing to customers as well as a thumbnail size image for photo invoices. This I could do normally by making two seperate actions for the two, but there is an issue with the categories of image types.
Within the catalog the images are of products, and thus are related to a brand. I would like to index the images into a brand based folder, and then into seperate folders for thumbnails and general use.
So essentially, the workflow would be something along the lines of
Create New Folder for Brand/ Category
     Open Image
     Resize for General Use
Save Image As... in Brand > General Use
     Resize for Thumbnail
Save Image As... in Brand > Thumbnails
     Close
Repeat for all images in category.
Create New Folder for new Brand Category
     Open Image
.... Etc etc.
Also, is there a way to select a resizing of an image by it's longest/ shortest edge within an action/ droplet? I know Image Processor has this capability but it seems strange there is no ability within an action.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, suggestions for work arounds etc etc...

Actions have no conditionals, so you may want to look into Scripting which could also handle saving copies to the various target Forlders.

  • Automator droplet to filter movies and pictures into separate folders?

Hey everyone, I'm a frustrated photographer and I've got a camera that gives me a SD card that looks like this:
I want to create a droplet that after importing into my computer, I can organize the .rw2, .JPG and .MOV files into their own respective folders so the end product looks like this:
I know I can sort by filetype and create a folder based on that, but I just want to highlight everything, throw it on the droplet, and end up with folders.
I came pretty close with this:
but it only copies the jpegs into a new folder, leaving the old ones.  I want to MOVE the pictures to the new folder I created.  I have to do this for a lot of "example folders" so the "Same Folder as Input" feature is what I need to utilize.  Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks so much.

Awesome, thank you so much! That's exactly what I was looking for.  To take it one step further, it would be great to make it universal not for just my camera, but for all cameras.  I have a Panasonic (.RW2), but I went ahead and added Canon (.CR2) Nikon (.NEF) and a bunch of other RAW photo types and other video types as well:
    jpg_folder="JPEG"
    raw_folder="RAW"
    mov_folder="VIDEO"
for f in "$@" ### loop, for each dropped folder
    do
        if [ -d "$f" ]; then ## this item is a directory
           cd "$f"
           /bin/mkdir -p {"$jpg_folder","$raw_folder","$mov_folder"} ### create sub-folders, if not already exists
/bin/mv -n *.JPG "$jpg_folder" ### move .JPG files (important: matching case ".JPG" does not equal ".jpg" )
           /bin/mv -n *.RW2 "$raw_folder" ### move .RW2 files
           /bin/mv -n *.CR2 "$raw_folder" ### move .CR2 files
           /bin/mv -n *.NEF "$raw_folder" ### move .NEF files
           /bin/mv -n *.ARW "$raw_folder" ### move .ARW files
           /bin/mv -n *.ORF "$raw_folder" ### move .ORF files
           /bin/mv -n *.RAF "$raw_folder" ### move .RAF files
           /bin/mv -n *.DNG "$raw_folder" ### move .DNG files
           /bin/mv -n *.MOV "$mov_folder" ### move .MOV files
           /bin/mv -n *.MP4 "$mov_folder" ### move .MP4 files
           /bin/mv -n *.AVI "$mov_folder" ### move .AVI files
           /bin/mv -n *.MTS "$mov_folder" ### move .MTS files
       fi
    done
It functions great, but for some reason gives me this error message every time:
Any ideas as to why?  I can live with clicking OK every time, but I'm not sure if I'm missing something easily fixable.
The other thing I was wondering how to add was a move to trash function.  Canon cameras create a .THM reference file that's useless once transferred to a computer:
How would you add a function to automatically move the THM files to the trash?  Your brilliance is greatly appreciated on behalf of all photo geeks like myself.

  • How To Place/Open Multiple Images Into Separate Layers For ONE Document?

I've been searching for the answer for a long time so I figured that someone here has to know.  I have PS Elements 9.
So I would like to make GIFs and I know how to do so, the problem is placing in those tens of files in layers (it's tedious).  Is there a way to select multiple image files to place into a single document?  And for them to be place into its own layer?  I've tried dragging and selecting from the Open/Place menus (won't allow), SHIFT + Direction Key from the Open/Place menus (won't allow), tried opening them to drag on the Organizer and to drag from the Project Bin (again won't allow), and I've read tutorials where they say to use scripts and actions but I'm not sure what to download them in order for them to work and the links are broken anyway.
An example of what I'd like to do:
Open and place in 15+ screenshots into layers but in just one document.
Each screenshot would be one layer in said document.
    ...rest of GIF process...
I feel like there's an easier way to get this without placing in each one at a time.  I remember being able to do this on a old PS (though not Elements).  Thanks for any help.

The quickest method is probably opening all images together from Full Edit:
    File >> Open
Then navigate to the folder and use shift+click to select a block of files.
The images will appear in the photo bin. Drag and drop each one into the main editing window and a separate layer will be created for each.

  • Importing a 2010 process image into LR5

I've just exported as catalog 2 images from an older catalog ( process version 2010 into LR5. there was no way to automatically convert them to 2012 process.
I had to turn on the calibration panel in Develop mode and then set it to 2012 and then copy the 2012 calibration to the other image.
As a check, I checked this by exporting 1 image that was process version 2010 into LR5 and it automatically made it 2013,
Then I checked it again, imported a catalog from LR 4.3 which had only process version 2010 images in. The import upgraded and disgarded the temp library used in the upgrade process, and again, there was no option to automatically convert the images to PV2013.
    See graphic below
Which has to be a dropbox link as the add image is not working in Chrome this morning,

The icon to indicate a previous process version image has been changed and relocated. See the "Thunderbolt" icon underneath the Histogram. Clicking on that will give you the update option.

  • Batch converting psd images into jpegs in pse 10 or 11?

I want to batch convert the above. I know i can convert one image at a time. If not can one recommend a batch conversion program which is safe to use and free from viri  and malaware.  Thanks!!

And when you are in the process multiple files menu what do you select from their to do the batch processing of the psd images to the jpeg images.   I need a step by step here.  Thanks!!

  • Having a problem isolating RAW files from Jpegs into separate folders.

I have understood it to be that all file (photo) organization in Elements should be done in the Organizer.  However, I took over 500 shots in RAW + Jpeg, so now I want to place the RAW files in a separate folder so I can make thumbnails from the Jpegs to allow the subjects to select which photos they want copies of.  I will then work on those RAW files.  However, Organizer lists the files in filename order, so manually selecting the CR2 files would be a pain in the butt.  Is there a way in Organizer to sort by size or sort by file extension ... anything other than filename?  Can files be directed to individual folders when first downloaded?  If I sort the files in Windows Explorer and move them, does that mess up the cataloging in Organizer?

    Big-Al-Photoman wrote:
A --- "Find > by Filename" ?  That is the default, and already shows in this sequence.  Filename creates a sequence of CR2, Jpeg, XMP, CR2, Jpeg, XMP, CR2, Jpeg, XPM, etc. etc.
Clearly, you haven't understood properly. It is not a default. I am referring to a menu option. You go to the Find menu in the PSE organizer, then select "by Filename" and then type in CR2 and press ENTER.
B --- again, not sure if Adobe just didn't understand the question or I am too dense to understand the answer.  I am going to reduce the size of the Jpeg files so I can upload them to an online gallery so the clients can view the shots taken.  I am obviously not going to upload the RAW files or the XPM (I assume the thumbnail created to allow the RAW file to be displayed in the viewfinder or on screen.)  I don't want to reduce the size of the originals (obviously), so I can use the "Process Multiple Files" in Elements to copy the Jpegs and make smaller copies for upload.  I DO NOT want to have to hold the CTRL key down while I select 250 individual Jpeg files manually since that is the ONLY option in the sort sequence they appear in currently.  If Adobe provided the ability to sort the files in a folder "by size" or "by extension", then I could easily deal with only the Jpegs, but in their infinite wisdom, Adobe neglected to include the ability to handle files by this logical method.  So my only option appears to be to create a new folder and put the CR2 (and XPM) files in the new folder until I am ready to post-process the files chosen by my client.
Obviously, you didn't understand. If you want to reduce the size of your JPGs and then upload, you select the JPGs by Find > by Filename, so then yout have all the JPGs found; and then Ctrl-A to select them all, and then create the reduced size photos via File->Export->As New File. (Of course, you can also do this to the RAWs as well, resulting in a reduced size JPG -- and then you don't even need the original JPGs)
The point of my inquiry was to find out if Adobe DID provide a way to dealing with a large number of files in a logical and efficient manner, and the response above doesn't really tell me that they did. My assumption from the above response is that Adobe did NOT provide an efficient method of isolating files by type or size.
The efficient way of doing this has been explained, and does exist in PSE.
Or am I just too dense to understand an easy, quick solution to dealing with ONLY the Jpegs, resizing them for quick and view-only upload to a gallery, and retaining the integrity of the Elements organizer.???????

  • Batch importing Word files into separate InDesign files

    Hi,
I have what I though would be a fairly common question, but I can't seem to find any information about it in this forum or on the web.
I have a folder of Word files (over 100, which is why I don't want to do this manually) and one InDesign CS4 file that I'd like to use as a template (basically it's just a couple of pages with some threaded text boxes and a few images). I would like to write a script that will go through the Word files, one by one, and pull each into the text box in the InDesign file before saving it as a new copy (ideally with the same name as the Word file). So, if I have 100 Word files and one InDesign file in a folder, I'd like to be able to run a script and end up with 100 new InDesign files.
I think I can deal with importing and placing the text, and saving the file again. It's mostly the question of using javascript to go through a folder to find all of the filenames so that I can pass the name to the import file command that is confusing me.
Oh, I'm on a Mac with OS 10.6 and using InDesign CS4.
    Thanks!

Before reinstalling (which is most often unneeded) it would be useful to test the way the app behave when it is used in an other User Account.
If it behave flawlessly, no need to reinstall it.
If it doesn't, it *_may be useful_* to reinstall it but it's not sure.
Nothing prove that the problem is really linked to the installed application's files.
It may be linked to a file built on the fly like preferences or fonts cache…

  • When I import a cd the files are written into separate folders. I want all the tunes in one folder. How do I do that?

How do I get all the files on a cd into a single folder when I import them in iTunes? It seems to be a wild horse, splitting a cd up into files with one, two, three, or accasionally all of the tunes in one files.

No, that doesn't do it. I just tried to import an opera aria album, all tracks by the same tenor, and he is listed on each. iTunes split it into four albums. On earlier versions I could join tracks, but I don't see any way of doing that in the latest version of iTunes. The help section says to mark all the tracks and then click on the options button and a menu allowing join tracks will appear. It doesn't.
Here's another problem: iTunes consistently truncates the first two tracks, i.e. it eliminates them altogether. Help.

  • How do I import multiple images into single individual cells?

    Hi folks,
I'm new to the Mac (yeah!) and imagine there just has to be a way to import a bunch of images into separate cells in Mac "Numbers" ... am I right?
Essentially what I'd like to do is a file folder with 600 images in it, and import those directly into Mac Numbers with one picture being assigned to it's own cell. So if below were a spreadsheet it would look like this:

I'm trying to work with inventory items, and this is the only way I can think of doing it. Suggestions!?!?

    D,
I guess you're taking another shot at getting a response. You risk getting parallel discussions going with the same content.
What you are contemplating seems logical enough, but I think you will find that it is impractical in Numbers. Given the size of photograph files these days, you will choke Numbers in short order. You will have to be careful that you embed only photos large enough to be of use/viewable, and keep your full-sized copies elsewhere. You might find that an Apple Script can do the import for you, but otherwise it's drag and drop from the Media Browser.

  • HT1386 I deleted all my photos in the Camera Roll folder,I created separate folders containing all my pisctures. When I sync my iPhone it shows that all the pictures are loaded. But nothing displays on my phone?

    Hey Guys,
I need some advice. I had about 9000 pitures and photos in my camera roll folder.
I wanted to manage all these pictures into separate folders for easier access.
I imported all the pictures onto my pc, and created and managed the pics.
I synced the phone and excluded the photos,as advised on the site.
The I disconnected the phone, connected again and included the pictures.
On the coclour tab it indicates that all the pictures are there, after syncing,
but on my phone, nothing appears.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there another way of importing my pictures
onto the phone and keeping the separate folders?
    Thanks,

If you don't find an iTunes backup as suggested above, another possibility is that the phone was setup to automatically back up to iCloud. You can go to Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > Manage Storage to see if your device name is listed there. If it is, the section titled "How do I restore an iCloud Backup if my device is already set up for use?" in the following link gives directions on how to resore it:  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4036
Also, I'm sorry to hear you lost 5 years of pictures. Having them in one place (as you unfortunately found out) is not a good idea as all kinds of things can happen including loss of the phone. If you have a computer it is a good idea to periodically import them to the computer where you can see that they have successfully transferred to a second location. Following is instructions on how to do that if you want to in the future: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4083

There is no macro feature in Numbers.
The only way to code what you wish would be to use AppleScript if Numbers '08 was scriptable.
As it's not, you must do the job by hand or switch to Numbers '09 which is scriptable.

  • Convert Jpg images into patterns (.pat)

Is it possible to Batch convert Jpg images into .pat files? I am familiar with the define pattern function but what I really need is to convert many jpg's.
    Thanks

Use edit Define pattern on the image to define a Photoshop pattern. Then use the preset manager to save the pattern as a *.pat file.....
To batch this you may need to use a Photoshop Script to name the patterns a action define pattern step would have a hard code pattern name. Changing that step to a script could retrieve the document name and set the pattern name the same as the jpeg name.  You could define many patterns that way then use the preset manager select all the defined patterns and save a single *.pat file with that set of patterns.

  • In Bridge CS6, the "Tools" tab is missing the "Photoshop" option to batch process image

    Hello!
Does anyone know why in Bridge cs6 under the "Tools" tab, my "Photoshop" option is missing?  That is how I have always batch processed images.  In Bridge, I choose the images to process, go to the "Tools" tab, down to the "Photoshop" option then to "Image Processor" and process.  Now when I go into my "Tools" tab it only has the options: Batch Rename, 4 kinds of Metadata related options and Cache.  Can someone tell me why this has happened and how to fix it?  Thank you!!!

This problem lasted for two days.  I tried many suggestions but nothing worked immediately.  Suddenly I turned my computer on last night and it was fixed...inexplicably.  Not sure what worked but something did.  I appreciate you taking the time to offer advice.

Songs in my Itunes show up as separate folders.  How do I combine them into one album?

Is this one of those CDs where the main artist asks their friend to sing a song with them?
Such as, Slash's new album. Track 1 is "Slash Feat. Ian Astbury", track 2 is "Slash Feat. Ozzy Osbourne" and so on.
To fix this, select all the tracks on that album, right-click > Get Info, and say YES to changing multiple items.
Put "Slash" in the *Album Artist* field (for this example, of course).
Make sure it is the *Album Artist* field, not the plain Artist field.
