Batch resizing images, etc. not as an export

What I'd like to do is take all the images in a catalog, resize them into tiny thumbnails, place those thumbnails in some directory, and then FTP them to a web server.  Some of this is covered under the SDK's "export" functionality, but what I'm proposing isn't something I want to handle as an export (I don't want to do it from Lightroom's export menu).  I've looked into addDevelopPresetForPlugin and strangely I'm not seeing a provision in there for resizing an image, so clearly that system wasn't intended for resizing.  How might I proceed, what pitfalls do I face, and am I even asking the right questions?

Unless it needs to be a publish service, you may find it simpler to use an LrExportSession - pass photos and export settings and away ya go...

Indeed, this function is not reliable if user is in develop module. If I remember correctly, it just won't work on a photo selected for develop. I think I discovered later that it will work on other photos in filmstrip, if not most-selected (in develop module I mean). And of course one has to wait for a fresh preview, so could take as long as an export. I wish Adobe would have made more than a half-baked implementation for this function. There are some other issues too with this function - it hangs forever if Lr needs to get in there and create the same preview before function is finished, or something like that.
Option #3: use reverse-engineered access to preview subsystem - it works regardless of module, and is easy to get immediate preview - hard to assure a fresh one. Biggest problem is handling orientation and icc-profile and metadata if desired. See PreviewExporter for example:

There will be a set of Landscapes that that have a narrower aspect ratio the 1960:1103 that would also need the top and bottom cropped like all Portraits would could be.  You need to realize that center cropping Landscape image that have aspect ratios near 1960:1103 will usually produce acceptable compositions.  However Cropping wide panoramas and portraits will only produce acceptable landscape  1960:1103 composition occasionally.
Here you will see what happens when image have aspect ratio the do not fit the desired aspect ratio.  Where Landscape  are forced to portrait and portrait forced to Landscape.  Here are two Collage I populated with a mixture of image  with different  aspect ratios.   One collage has all 3:2 Landscape places and the other 2:3 Portrait places.
I create a 1 image 1960x1103 collage 72dpi and create those too. Note the landscape boy foot is cropped off 3:2 is narrow compared to 1960:1103

  • Resizing Image and Not Keep Aspect Ratio

Is there a free program to resize images and not keep the original aspect ratio?
I need to resize loads of images to 100x100 pixels and have tried Image well and IResize yet they do not seem to have an option to not keep the original aspect ratio.

Hi, Downsize does not seem all that great according to reviews. Why not see if you can buy PS E' 3 mac -- maybe ebay/amazon (if I remember I only paid about $70 for PS E3) As PS E4 just came out I'm sure someone has PS E3 for sale. You will then have no problems completing your image resizing.
2 other questions for you..are you using the Mac side of your intel or Windows?
if your using the Windows side I can let you have PS 6 (PC) ..freegratus.

  • Problem trying to batch resize images from bridge.

I am trying to batch resize images from bridge. I am on windows 7 desktop and using CC, I select the images in bridge, tool bar>tools>photoshop>image processor. After doing this, photoshop CC opens but no images open.

open photoshop, open actions pallette, click new action (windows > actions (or Alt+f9)), click record, open your image, resize it, click stop action.
then use file> automate > batch
the action you just recorded will be ready to use, select the folder with all your photos (wise to work on a duplicated folder incase you mess up)
run the action.  wait while photoshop opens and resizes the images one by one.
check in folder if the images resized how you expected.

A process can be automated in Photoshop in different ways using one of Photoshop batching feature ther are more then one and it  can be done by other image processing programs. However in all cases  your image files will need to to opened decoded into an image processed to produce the images files you want and output files saved.
It not possible to give you a step by step for you left out much needed infomation. Like will all files being process have the same aspect ratio and if its the same aspect ratio as your desired passport images. Passport images should not be distorted. If Aspect ratios differ will a centered crop be OK. etc

  • IPhoto '08 resizing images (but not all)

I have recently run into a problem which I assume is iphoto related. I never use iphoto because quite frankly I don't like it and I never have, which is why I stuck with '08 and didn't bother upgrading and this issue hasn't helped any.
I decided to do a photo book for my girlfriend for Xmas, however with some pictures from my iphone 4s I was getting the low res error message. These were all photos taken in June and they all appear to be 360 x 270. Eveything before that is the same. However anything taken from September onwards is fine and is at full 8mp resolution. Nothing I've searched for suggests there's an issue with the phone so I'm assuming something happened when importing to iphoto and no message regarding resizing showed up at the time.
I only really use iphoto to get the pictures off my phone. I use a card reader for my digital camera. Once the photos are off the phone I copy them to a folder I make in the pictures folder in Finder then I go into the iphoto library and delete the several copies of the pictures it, for some reason, deems necessary to make. I use it for nothing else, except the occasional slide show and photo book. I don't suppose there's any way to get them back now but has anybody had this problem before? I'd really like to know how this happened. It's really screwed me up because I took some great pictures and now I can't use any of them. Also, is there an alternative to iphoto to get pictures off my phone because the less I need to use iphoto the better.
    Thanks
    RB

    Wrong, wrong.
You never access the photos via the File Structure, there is no need to  - oh, and by the way, there are no duplicates.
With iPhoto you work only in the iPhoto Window. In the Library (Events or Photos view) select an image and drag it to the iPhoto Trash. Empty it. Empty the System trash. Image gone.
To get a image out of iPhoto: File -> Export...

  • Photoshop will not open/create new files, cannot resize images etc

    Hi to all.
So I'll start with the basics; I am using Photoshop 7 (And yes, I am using it for a specific reason, I'm not interested in migrating to this new $1000 Creative Cloud rubbish), us Australians are getting ripped a new one and I'm happy with the $50 I paid for my copy years ago. (Please do not tell me the answer to my problems is to simply upgrade and go bankrupt. Again, I've been using 7 for a very long time without issue).
I've been using 7 for almost a decade without issue. I stick with it because so far, it's done everything I need, has been reliable up to this point, and my plugins do not work properly with newer versions. I'm also running an older-spec system (Windows XP, 3gb ram etc) as I do a lot of work with older game engines, Source Engine etc.
The issue I'm having doesn't appear to be Photoshop-7 specific however, there are many threads on this that have gone unanswered, and happen in CS3 etc and modern copies as well. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it to no avail. Basically, I cannot open files reliably with it.
If I right click any image file in explorer and click "open with -> Photoshop", photoshop will launch, however it does not open the file. I double checked to ensure the file was not just opening offscreen, however it is definitely not opening at all (as the "close" option does not become available).
If I launch photoshop manually, and click file -> open -> It will open that file, HOWEVER it will not open any more files after that.
It also is very very fickle with simple commands, such as if I hit CTRL + T to go into transform mode and then try to rescale an image, I have to click and drag the corners at least 5-6 times before it will recognize that I am doing so, and it will also ignore the resize that I perform and snap back to normal. Sometimes I have to click things more than once to get them to register. This is not occurring with any other piece of software etc, so I've ruled out that it's an issue with my mouse.
This has only been happening a day, and I cannot think of any particular system changes likely to result in this (ie no abnormal plugins installed recently, no major hardware or software changes). Unless my keyboard has a stuck key or something strange, I'm absolutely at a loss
Is there anyone who can help me, or has heard of this issue?

    I am an idiot.
I guess the scratch disk was full or something else. A simple reboot appears to have solved the problem. (I often have my system running for up to 48-64 hours at a time without reboots) as my workdays are around 36 hours at a time, so it could just be a memory constraint from XP.
Hopefully this solves the issue for anyone else who encounters it. Reboot your pc once in a while, give it a clean slate of memory to work with.

  • Best way to batch resize images in nested folder hierarchy?

    Hello,
I'm looking for help on [what is probably] a classic problem related to content sites.
I'm launching a content site that has numerous articles, and attached to each article is a number of images.  The raw site assets are currently set up in a folder hierarchy like this:
    Overall site assets folder
    Category One folder
    Article One folder
    Unmodified images folder
    Resized, production-ready images folder
    Article Two folder
    Unmodified images folder
    Resized, production-ready images folder
    Etc..., etc....
There are hundreds of articles in this hierarchy.
I'm looking for a script that will take every image in each "Unmodified" folder and save a resized copy to the "Resized" folder, preferably with different settings for vertical and horizontal images (though I'll be OK with just fixing the width if need be).
I realize that I can do this manually and locally within each folder with a droplet, but between droplets / actions / plug-ins or third-party tools, is there an easy way to accomplish this across a large nested hierarchy with many folders as long as the Unmodified and Resized folders are nested together?  And what about horizontal vs. vertical images?
    THANKS!!!!!!
    Scott

Ahhh, I understand what you're saying.  I'm downloading and installing this CS6 script, which might be along the lines of what I'm looking for:
Dr. Brown Services - Image Processor Pro
    http://www.e-zest.net/blog/photoshop-cs6-save-for-web-images-batch-processing-keeping-nest ed-folder-structure-intact/
Photoshop supports recording the actions and the facility to run that action for batch processing. But it also has a couple of limitations up to Photoshop cs6 as mentioned below –
Photoshop does not maintain the source, hereditary/nested folder structure for the output (destination) images. Save for web only saves all the files to the folder specified when you record the action.
In case of some file handling issues, Photoshop action throws an error & pauses/stops working, wherein we need to skip these errors manually.
I I tried to Google it to find answers and also tried couple of JavaScript solutions such as the – SFW Batch Processor, SFWCS4-5, Picture Processor etc., but unfortunately all of them didn’t work for me. Either it gave up or stopped working or even threw errors for PhotoshopCS6 and CS2.
Thanks to Russell Brown for providing new CS6 Extension script to resolve the ‘save for web’ batch processing issue like maintaining the images nesting folder structure.
Not sure if it does exactly what I need, but checking....
    Best,
    Scott

  • Setting for whether to resize images or not in exportContext.propertyTable?

I have a plugin that creates multiple renditions of various sizes.  For the sizes I require, the image sizes are set with the two properties LR_size_resizeType and LR_size_maxHeight.
The issue I am facing is that the rendering process only reduces the sizes if the "Resize to Fit" checkbox is checked in Export settings.  If left unchecked, all renditions are set at the same size of the original image.  I've attempted to find out which property this checkbox may effect, but don't see any difference in the keys/values of exportContext.propertyTable between having the checkbox set or not set.
I hope somebody can help advise on the following:
    * Is there a property I can set to force LR to resize renditions, whether in exportContext.propertyTable or elsewhere?
    * If not, is there a property in my plugin's preset values that can set this checkbox to 'on' when the plugin is installed?
    * Any other approaches to force LR to resize renderings without having the user check the 'Resize to Fit' checkbox?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks for the advice Rob.  The magic setting seems to be LR_size_doConstrain.  When set to true, the images are now resizing correctly, whether Resize to Fit is checked or not.

  • Image Settings not working when exporting in Lightroom v1.3.1

When I try to export Images in Lightroom v1.3.1 to jpeg the image settings do not work. Example: Color space - SRGB, resize to fit checked, long edge set to 10in and resolution set to 250 gives me a image of 24in X 34in @ 72ppi. If I do nothing but save as a tiff I get 8in X 10in @ 250ppi. It works fine for everything except JPEG. Help please!

If you care about the resolution tag, do not check "minimize metadata". Otherwise your 24x36@72 ppi is EXACTLY the same image as a 10" long dimension image @250 ppi, because they are both 2500 pixels in the long dimension. Lightroom scaled your image correctly in other words, it just neglected to write the silly resolution metadata tag to your file, which it only writes to jpegs when you do not check the minimize metadata checkbox. The only thing that matters is the number of pixels. P.S. if you really want a 4x5 ratio image, you'll first need to crop it in Develop. The 24x36 implies it is still at a 2x3 ratio.

  • Images will not display on Export to PDF

I have a BOXi Web Intelligence Document that displays two images that are 7kb each.
The Text for one of the objects is set to:
    http://cpolrhp.belvoir.army.mil/eur/images/CHRA_Logo.gif
That object is set to read the text as:
    Image URL
The images display on the report in web intelligence but they do not export to PDF when I select save to my computer as PDF.
Any help on this would be a great help!!

    Hi Christopher,
The behavior experienced by you is quite strange.
When we save the document with image as Excel, the image goes missing and this is a known limitation but we can save it successfully to PDF.
Suggest you to check for the Adobe version.
You can also follow these steps:
follow these steps to correctly redefine the object so that it appears on each page:
    1. Open the report.
    2. In the report, right-click on the image and go to Format Cell > "Alignment" tab.
    3. Check the option "Repeat On Every Page" and then click "Ok".
    4. Click on the dotted line representing the position of the header is and drag it down slightly.
    5. Go to Insert > Cell, insert a cell in the header of the report, and enter text in the cell.
    6. Right-click on the cell and go to Format Cell > "Appearance" tab and check the option "Hide Cell".
    7. Drag the header back into its original position.
    Regards,
    Ekta Srivastava
    8. Save the report and export it to the repository. The image will now be displayed on every page when the report is opened in PDF viewing mode.

  • Resized images are not anti-aliased

I'm creating an app with html + js + css + air, and I'm doing
    something like this:
    <img src="
    http://somedomain.com/image.jpg"
    />
I find that if I set the image height/width in css that when
the image loads it displays in very poor quality, mainly it looks
like it's not anti-aliased. The images look fine when I don't set a
height or width, so the images look fine by themselves, and when
rendered at their original size. It's only when I try to resize it
    that it looks bad.
Any help is greatly appreciated - many thanks.

Thanks for the suggestion zorglub76. Perhaps I could find a
solution resizing the image in actionscript, but then I'm stuck
with another problem, which is how to take an image I've
manipulated in AS3 and render it in the html img tag? I'm
dynamically pulling images from amazon, so I can't resize them
    ahead of time.
As far as the css goes, I don't believe that's the problem.
When I take the same html + css and render it in chrome, firefox,
or safari the smaller image looks great. It's only a problem in
adobe air, and I believe it has to do with it not being
    anti-aliased.

  • How can I batch resize images to a file size of 1 meg?

I'm not the most technically literate mac user and would gratefully receive any help please.
I have been asked to reduce lots of images of various large file sizes and dimensions to 1 meg. I am using Photoshop CS4 and am aware of the 'Image Processor' function under 'scripts' unfortunately it only allows me to adjust the image dimensions, but I need to reduce the file size so that every image is 1 meg and at 300 dpi, it doesn't matter about the image dimensions.
    Thanks so much!
    Jess

You omitted to name the file format you want to use.
If you use any compression the task is far less trivial than you might think.
Trying to predict the effect of the compression (even if it were non-destructive) is not always sensible so the viable approach may be to save, check file size, if above intended one change dimensions, save, check file size etc.
I think I have come across thread/s on this in the Scripting Forum but I can’t remember anyone ever posting a finalised Script for this.
