BC4J Logging on deployed OC4J instance

Whilst developing, we've been using detailed logging by specifying the following Java options in JDeveloper:
-Djbo.logging.trace.threshold=9 -Djbo.logging.show.timing=true -Djbo.debugoutput=console
-Djbo.jdbc.trace=true -Djbo.logging.show.function=true
Could anyone tell me, whats the correct way to specify these equivalent options through the iAS console? (We don't have shell prompt access so can't modify any config files directly.)
Rgds
Ben

Depending on the iAS version select the OC4J container where your applications are deployed; on top top half you see an "Administration" link. After selection this go to "Server attributes". There you find "OC4J Options" and "Java Options" under command line options. This is the point to put your switches.
You should be careful to set jbo.debugoutput to console, because it's generation lots of messages. I would try 'file' instead.

  • Multiple BC4J apps deployed in single 9iAS OC4J instance

Deploying my BC4J/UIX applications in a single Oracle 9iAS 9.0.2 OC4J instance, causes some of my applications not to find their BC4J configurations. After restarting the OC4J instance some applications start to find the configurations, while some lose the ability arbitrarily. When I deploy each of them in a different OC4J instance, then everything works fine.
The problem appears also at my client's site. My client has all the latest patches applied to the 9iAS server and they can't afford upgrading to 10g or running every application in separate OC4J instance.
The BC4J/UIX applications are developed with JDev 9.0.3.4. and the BC4J and UIX libraries of the application server are updated to the versions of JDev 9.0.3.4. My development Oracle9iAS runs on Windows 2000 and my client has it on Sun Solaris.
The error trace I get from applications that can't find the configuration looks like this:

  • Deploy BC4J/JSP applications on OC4J

I am trying to deploy JDeveloper3.2 BC4J/JSP applications on OC4J. However, I have no lucky at all. My OC4J will hang when I tried to run my JSP applications.

  • How to create new OC4J instance in AS 10.1.3 with BC4J- and ADF-Libraries

    Hi
I have done all the steps mentioned in this thread:
How to create new OC4J instance in AS 10.1.3
However, the new created OC4J instance obviously misses some libraries. If I deploy my Application to this OC4J I get an internal error: Class not found: oracle.jbo.JboException.
The same Application runs well in the "home" Instance.
What is the trick, to create a new OC4J instance, which more or less behaves the same way as the "home" instances (and especially has all the same libraries)?
    Thanks for your help
    Frank Brandstetter

I encountered this last month. I definitely agree that it is a glaring omission to not have "Create Like" functionality when instantiating new containers. Here's my notes on the manual steps required after using createinstance to create the fresh container. Not too bad. I've been deploying ADF applications to the new container with no problems after this.
    ==============
The default (home) OC4J container is pre-configured for ADF 10.1.3 applications; however, when $ORACLE_HOME/bin/createinstance is used to create additional containers, these containers are not configured automatically to host ADF 10.1.3 applications.
    I followed these manual steps:
    1. $ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/home/config/server.xml defines three shared libraries that "install" the needed JARs for Oracle ADF applications in your application server instance (container). Note that "install" does not necessarily mean available to applications (see Step 2). Copy the three shared library element definitions to the <application-server> element of your new container (in server.xml).

    2. To make the necessary ADF and JSF support libraries available to your deployed ADF application, the default application (that your ADF application and the majority of applications should inherit from) should explicitly import the shared library in the <orion-application> element of $ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/<your container>/config/application.xml.

         <import-shared-library name="adf.oracle.domain"/>

A strange find that I came up with is, I have sixteen web services, when I try to deploy them, through JDeveloper 10.1.3.2 to OC4J instance. Deployment is getting failed. But when I am deploying it with 15 web services only, deployment is sucessful.
    Please help its urgent

  • Issues with deploying BC4J/JSP applications on OC4J

To everyone who's been having problems deploying BC4J/JSP applications to OC4J.
We are aware that you're having problems deploying to OC4J, and we're working on them. OC4J was not available in time for us to add support for OC4J deployment to the JDeveloper 3.2.3 release. In addition there are some bugs in the first release of OC4J that have an impact on BC4J applications. This note describes the issues, and how we plan to address them.
    Issue 1: Classpath problems
People have been getting "class not found" or "properties file not found" errors when they try to run their JSP. The answer is to make sure that all relevant archives and your JSP's .properties file are in the OC4J classpath - there's a note addressing the .properties file problem at http://technet.oracle.com:89/ubb/Forum99/HTML/000028.html. In general though, setting up the classpath can be tricky.
Issue 2: JSP TAG NOT RELEASED ON END TAG. SAME TAG IS REUSED.
This issue affects JSP pages whose behaviour relies on a tag instance being cleaned up as a result of release() being called.
Your tag will not be released, and subsequent instances of the tag will reuse the first instance, rather than instantiating a new
    one.
    Issue 3:JSP SCRIPTABLE VARIABLE NULL
A scriptable variable set in a tag cannot be accessed by a scriptlet. For example, this JSP code will throw a
NullPointerException, because the scriptlet cannot access the value of resultRow:
    <jbo:Row id="resultRow" action="CURRENT" datasource="customer_vo1" />
    <%
    session.putValue("FIRSTNAME", resultRow.getAttribute("Firstname").toString());
%>Workaround: Add a line of code at the beginning of the scriptlet to explicitly get the variable's value from the page context, for
    example:
    <jbo:Row id="resultRow" action="CURRENT" datasource="customer_vo1" />
    <%
    resultRow = (oracle.jbo.Row)pageContext.findAttribute("resultRow");
    session.putValue("FIRSTNAME", resultRow.getAttribute("Firstname").toString());
    %>
    What we plan to do
To address issue 1, we're currently testing a utility that installs the BC4J runtime libraries to OC4J, and provides a script to start OC4J with the correct classpath. We plan to post this by the end of this week, along with instructions for deploying a BC4J application to OC4J; deployment will be a lot simpler after running the utility.
To address issues 2 and 3, we're working on a second utility that installs BC4J runtime and provides a fix to the JSP compiler. We plan to post this second utility by the end of next week.
We do apologise for the problems you're having; please bear with us as we work on making it easier for you to deploy BC4J applications to OC4J.
    Thanks
    Blaise

Hi, I have been trying desparately to deploy
a simple example JDeveloper application for months and months.
I HAVE NEVER BEEN SUCCESSFUL IN DEPLOYING ANYTHING.
I don't know much about webservers and I am relying
on the instructions from JDeveloper help and this website.
I have already tried Apache, and WebLogic
because there are instructions in the JDev help.
    No luck.
Now I am trying to use OC4J on 9ias because there are instructions.
I have read the instructions about how to install a BC4J
app on OC4J about 25 times, but I can't get this thing to work.
It works fine inside of JDeveloper.
I create a BC4J project using the scott
schema (just the dept and emp tables).
Then I create an empty project for my JSP client.
I choose JSP Application from the web
objects and it connects to my BC4J project.
As I say, when I run it in JDeveloper, there is no problem.
In the instructions for installing BC4J
in OC4J, it first says install JDev 3.2.3 and OC4J.
This is done, and it tested fine.
Then it says to install the deployment software.
    No problem.
But when I deploy the app according to the instructions,
it just hangs (like Rick Wang's program did).
The main.jsp page loads and displays correctly,
but when I click on the links to the DeptView.jsp
    or EmpView.jsp it just hangs.
Here is the entire batch file I'm using
    to start OC4J: cd c:\oracle_9ias\j2ee\home

    pause
The file al_BC4J.jar contains my application.properties file
and my connections.properties file, as well as my business components.
All of the files referenced in my classpath are
    present in my c:\oracle_9ias\j2ee\home\lib directory.
I noticed that Raghu's classpath contains a file called jdev.jar
So does the classpath of another fellow who says
he was successful in deployment (his name is Jeffrey Jackson).
I searched my JDev_3.2.3 for this file and found it nowhere.
I also searched my OC4J home and my 9iAS for this file and
    found it nowhere.
It is nowhere on my C:\.
    Is this file necessary?
I will also try removing my application.properties file
and my connections.properties file from my BC4J .jar file
and put them in a separate .jar file at the root level (as Raghu did).
However, Jeffery Jackson did not do this and says he was
    successfull in deployment.

  • Unable to deploy a simple WAR / EAR file on Standalone OC4J instance

    All,
This issue is baffling me since yesterday and while I continue to look for options , would appreciate if anyone of you has run into something similar and give me some hints on how to proceed on this ..
I downloaded the Standalone OC4J ( 10.1.3 ) from otn.oracle.com and also downloaded JDK 1.5 Update 12 from the Sun Website and installed it on my local
Windows XP machine. Everything works well and the application gets deployed.
I then copied the 10.1.3 Standalone OC4J to the Solaris 5.9 box which already
has JDK 1.5 Update 12 installed. We extracted the OC4J to its own directory , set the Java_Home and the Oracle_Home environment variables and were able to
    startup the OC4J instance.
However when trying to deploy even a simple HelloWorld.jsp file packaged as an EAR or WAR , we get these errors..
[Aug 8, 2008 9:40:27 AM] Application Deployer for CISS STARTS.
[Aug 8, 2008 9:40:27 AM] Copy the archive to /home/aplperdev1/ssp_java/oc4j/j2ee/home/applications/CISS.ear

Using the above error messages , I certainly do not find the CISS.ear file getting copied to /home/aplperdev1/ssp_java/oc4j/j2ee/home/applications/CISS.ear
which explains the rest of the messages.
I have tried placing the EAR file both remote and local on the Application Server box but the results remain the same. Assuming it might be a permissions issue , we have opened up all the permissions on this OC4J home ( recursively )
    to everyone ..
Is there a specific version of tar / unzip / jar required to deploy EARs / WARs on Solaris 5.9 running JDK 1.5 Update 12.
We had some issues when extracting OC4J to its directory but there were no errors displayed on the screen ... Only when we tried starting up the OC4J instance , it started complaining about missing XML files .. This was resolved by manually extracting the XML's from the corresponding jars and placing them in the proper directories ..
Also looked at Bug:6330834 but am not very sure if this applies to our case because all these drives are local to the Sun box.
Other than attempting a reinstall and opening an Service Request with Oracle , I am running out of ideas at this time ..
So any ideas / hints would be gladly accepted :)
    Vishwa

    When you say:
I then copied the 10.1.3 Standalone OC4J to the Solaris 5.9 box which already has JDK 1.5 Update 12 installed. We extracted the OC4J to its own directory , set the Java_Home and the Oracle_Home environment variables and were able to
    startup the OC4J instance.
We had some issues when extracting OC4J to its directory but there were no errors displayed on the screen ... Only when we tried starting up the OC4J instance , it started complaining about missing XML files .. This was resolved by manually extracting the XML's from the corresponding jars and placing them in the proper directories ..
It sounds like you have some funky issues there with those missing XML files -- that is not expected or normal.
Do you mean you copied the same oc4j_extended.zip to the server and unzipped it, or you zipped up the directories you were using on the Windows box, copied that over, and unzipped it?
I don't know of any problems with Solaris, JDK5, U12.
What about if you do this to remove any issues with the remote copy aspect of the deployment.
    1. Stop OC4J.
    2. Manually copy CISS.ear to /home/aplperdev1/ssp_java/oc4j/j2ee/home/applications/
    3. Edit the j2ee/home/config/server.xml file and add the entry to deploy the application
    4. Edit the j2ee/home/config/default-web-site.xml and bind any web-modules you need.
    5. Start the server and see what happens -- the application should be deployed.
Also, what happens if you use the $JAVA_HOME/bin/jar to try and view the contents of the CISS.ear file?

  • How to deploy oracle forms + J2EE application in single OC4J instance

We have ORACLE forms application, which is deployed in OC4J Instance in application server.
There are some modules, which are developed in Java/J2EE, which are invoked from Oracle forms application. Currently this java application is
    deployed in separate OC4J instance.
Could you please help us how to combine this forms +J2ee application in single ear file,
And this ear file has to be deployed in one OC4J instance.

  • New OC4J Instance : Deployed EAR File : Page not Found !

    Hi,
I have installed the Oracle Apps Middle Tier on one of my systems.
I created a new OC4J instance named OC4J_Custom and deployed an ear file with a couple of Test Servlets. Now, when I enter the URL for the Middle Tier OC4J :
    http://middletier:7778/my_app/HomeServlet
I only see a " The page cannot be displayed " error !.
I even checked in the mod_oc4j.conf file - the settings seem to be correct :
    Oc4jMount /my_app OC4J_Custom
    Oc4jMount /my_app/* OC4J_Custom
Do I need to do any other settings ?
    Regards,
    Sandeep

Is there a servlet mapped to HomeServlet in the web.xml file so it can be accessed like that?
Can you access any other resources -- ie a .html or .jsp page in that deployed app?
If you are using Internet Exploder, then one thing to try is turn off the "Show Friendly Error Pages" option in the custom settings. By default IE hides the error details, which might give you some more information here.
    cheers

in different threads the problem of deployment of BC4J UIX components to OC4J 1.2.2.x is addressed (see http://forums.oracle.com/forums/message.jsp?id=679060 for example). contrary to the sayings of different members of the jdev-team i face the same problem with OC4J 2.0 (java lang nullpointer exception).

Yes, I can create a new as3 file, but I can't "fill it with
sensible content". Neither my As3-codes are recognized nor simple
components are displayed to me in a proper way when testing the
    movieclip.
Now, I have just reinstalled my CS4 on another computer and
there it works with AS3. Really strange. Does CS4 need to
communicate with some internet services while executing a simple
    fla-file or something like that?

  • Deploy one Application per OC4J instance or multiple

    Hello,
I have the following questions on deploying applications on OC4J:
    1. What is the best practice for deploying applications on OC4J?
    2. Should I deploy only One application per OC4J Instance or multiple applications per OC4J Instance.
    3. If I decide to deploy more then one application on one OC4J Instance, for this OC4J Instance, should I increase default_island property to add the number of processes within an OC4J Instance
    Thanks,
    Manish

You really should read the 9iAS Performance and Tuning Guide. There is no specific recommendation. It is
highly dependent on your specific applications.
You can deploy more than one application per OC4J instance and if you have a high performance machine you will probably want to run more than one JVM per OC4J
instance. If you are running applications which create sessions and replicate state across JVM's then
you may want to create multiple islands to limit the scope of replication.

  • Error deploying BC4J JSP-application to OC4J

I am trying to deploy a typical default generated jsp - application based on default generated BC4J components (against a simple table in an oracle 8.1.7 database) to an external oc4j - service.

Re: How to use the classes of ott generated in Visual c++
Also, locate the C:\Jdev9i\BC4J\bin\bc4j2oc4j.bat file, make the necessary changes for the OC4J_HOME, JDEV_HOME, and JDK_HOME and run. This file should setup the BC4J libraries in your OC4J installation. Be sure your OC4J_HOME\j2ee\home\admin.jar is version compatible with the JDEV_HOME\j2ee\home\admin.jar.
