Beginner looking for route to advanced web design

Hi.  I'm an IBM web programmer.  I am very well versed in html, css, and javascript.  I have been using those three to develop for the web for about two years now.  Currently, I'm looking to start designing web sites with flash.  I don't really care about banners and other things yet.  I just want to get to the point where I can create great looking flash websites.  I am starting a subscription to lynda.com today and will be watching as many tutorials as possible.
So far, I've figured out how to create an extremely basic website, but I want to go from that to things like BK design's website.  Will I need anything more than flash and photoshop for sites like this?  I currently have photoshop and flash CS3 versions.  How important is it that I upgrade to CS4?
I'm a lot more experienced with photoshop.  So, things in flash like layers have been pretty easy to get used to.  I've used motion tweens and actionscript (which so far is very similar to javascript).  What are methods and strategies that I need to educate myself on to get to the advanced level of website design?

Flex uses an XML based "language of convience" called mxml. Mxml translates to actionscript much like jscript translates to Java. A typically page consist of mxml with sections of actionscript.  Flex has no timeline and is more of a developers tool it's designed to integrate with well with middleware and has a larger set of components.  In some ways it's a lot like ASP.net.

Hello otechcomputing. is this how you want to setup your network?
If so, Guest Networks cannot be " extended" since it has Website Authentication encryption which the RE1000 does not support. Here are my suggestions:
    1. Main Network WiFi password should be WPA2 Personal (more secured)
    2. Enable Guest Access (password protected)
    3. Reconfigure the RE1000 to connect to the EA6500 (main network) and change the extender's network name and password (still WPA2 Personal). You can name it with "EXT" at the end to designate it as such.

  • [LDAP]Beginner look for Iplanet

    Good morning
Iam looking for a way to download Iplanet. I understand that now there are several Sun's softwares as Sun Directory Server, Sun'one web server etc...
But our client use Iplanet, and we need absolutly Iplanet, because in the .ldiff's files that they provide us, there are several iplanet objectclasses, when I tried to import them via Directory server's console, I saw several errors.
My first question, does it exist a tool that allow us a migration between Iplanet's ldiff, to Sun Directory server's ldiff ? As Iam new on ldap, I did not understand something. Could we download Iplanet ? In Solaris 10 DVD, there are several IPLT... like IPLTADMAN, IPLTADMIN, does it mean that we have Iplanet ?
As Iam a beginner on ldap, I bought ldap Oreilly's book, unfortunetly, I did not understand something.
Could you suggest me some basic tutorials about LDAP, iam true dunkey, when someone talk about ldap, and invoque components, like attribute, entry, shema, objectclass etc...
The Oreilly's book did not bring what I needed, I ask you now.
    Thank for any help
    Regards.

    Hi,
I hope this will help. Basically to establish an SSL connection you must obtain a cer file from IPLANET and install it into a keystore. Here are the steps I used to get my code working.
    1. Get cer file from ldap server
    2. Use keytool to install the cer file
    i.e. keytool -alias <name> -file <cerfile> -keystore <loc to cacerts file>
One error I received was that the cer file was corrupted or password was incorrect. I simply deleted cacerts file and regenerated it using the keytool command.

  • Looking for help-DVD with web/email links

    Hall writes...
"snip...DVD@ccess is actually quite limited and not entirely compatible with the range of DVD playback software/hardware available on a PC... you might be better off using eDVD from Sonic (which is PC software, making use of the Interactual Player, rather than @ccess)."
I've no experience with Sonic yet but there is a small project in Chicago that needs help immediately. I'm looking for leads to pass on.
    [email protected]
    Thanks

    Well, there's the rub.
If you use DVD@ccess then pretty much every Mac will run the software easily enough, but you have to install it on a PC and even then it doesn't work as it should in a lot of cases.
If you use eDVD then PCs will almost certainly already have the player installed (since it is a far more ubiquitous piece of software than @ccess, and is used by a high number of commercial discs already in circulation), but you'll need to install the Interactual player on the Mac...
There are probably going to be far less Mac users than PC users - which might indicate that you go for eDVD and a more PC friendly solution.
But don't be fooled - eDVD is not the saviour that we all hope it will be. There are still issues on some PCs with it, and as you have already found, some issues on a Mac as well. The thing to consider is whether the eDVD solution gives more compatibility overall with your target users than DVD@ccess will.
You could opt for a more simple solution and just place the documents that you want included into a ROM folder on the disc, then use a menu to explain what's there and how to get to it.
The strong advantage here is that you'd have to create that menu anyway for those who view the disc in a set top player, and you are also not trying to post edit your files (as eDVD requires) or use software that simply isn't good enough on PCs (as @ccess seems to be).
It may be a less elegant and less gimmicky option, but I'll bet hardly any of your users will know the difference anyway...

  • Looking for router that allows 'isolating' game console

My WRT54GL is starting to come to the end of it's life, and I'm trying to select it's successor.
In a perfect world, I'm looking for a product that will allow me to drive my kid's XBOX through one channel, leaving another channel for the computers in the house.
I realise that 'isolation' is not the right word for this, but does this exist?  In what product?  And what do you call this feature?
    Thanks -
      --Beric

OK, a bit more research done and what I need is 'simultaneous dual-band'. Something like the E3000.
So next question:  Let's say I don't assign separate SSID's to the individual bands.  Will both bands be available automagically?  Will individual systems grab the best band, i.e N's to the 5GHz and G's to the 2.4GHz?  Are will everything simply go to the 5GHz?
And if my N-based laptop is on the 5GHz band, will it see the G-based printer on the 2.4Ghz band (assuming no separate SSID's)?
    Thanks again -

  • Beginner looking for sample code

    Hello Mobile Developers,
Just got my Flash Builder 4.5 two days ago. I have some Flex and Objective-C experience. I am looking for some example code
showing me how to build a simple "ActionScript Mobile Project" for the iPad. Any links or snippets are welcome.
Is it possible or planned to be possible, to build a native Objective-C Project in XCode and include the ActionScript/AIR features as a Library or
Framework, so that one could mix native UIKit Views with others based on ActionScript ?
Or is it possible to implement ActionScript wrappers around native code ?
    Regards,
    Dirk

    Hi,
Just tried the sample with my Flash Builder 4.5 - without success. The project references a Flex SDK named "superhero". I changed that to Flex 4.5
which is the one that came with Flash Builder.
It seems that the project requires AIR 2.7. Which Flex SDK do I need to run this example ?
    Regards,
    Dirk

  • Looking for router/switch combo equivalent to RV325

    Hello:
I will be working with the RV325 router frequently.
I am hoping to setup a router/switch combo similar to RV325 at home to practice.
However, I do not want to spend $400+ just for that purpose.
I knew that RV320 has a similar GUI of RV325.
    Question:
Is there any other router/switch combo that shares similar GUI and function of RV325 but even cheaper than RV320?
    Thank you.

The snmp-server ifindex persist command only applies to ifIndex values as you have seen.  The indices of the cikePeerTable should be well-defined, but the internal index may change on a tunnel flap.  The MIB documentation doesn't say that it would, but it is certainly possible.  The index structure would look like:
    1."10.1.1.1".1."10.1.1.2".1006
Where 1 is the local type, "10.1.1.1" is the local end IP address, 1 is the remote type, "10.1.1.2" is the remote end IP address, and 1006 is the internal peer index.
The cikeTunnelTable on the other hand uses a unique monotonically increasing index each time a tunnel is created (cikeTunIndex).  You would need to walk the table and pull out the specific tunnel attributes to know if this was the tunnel you want to monitor.
The short answer is that you may need to script the collection of the table rows to dynamically regenerate your NMS configuration to continually monitor the interesting tunnels.

  • Looking for some help with package design (box)

I'm pretty good with Photoshop, but Illustrator is fairly new to me. I'm helping a friend do his product packages and I already have all of the graphics, I'm just having trouble figuring out how to put it all together in Illustrator.
We already have the box dimensions and just need to get a vector file that the factory can use to print. My main question is how do I create the actual layout of the box to work on? In the pdf that was sent to us I can pull out the box, but it just sits on a white background.
My next question is how do I fill the layout with a pattern. I have a carbon fiber look pattern in Photoshop, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to use it to fill in Illustrator.
Thanks ahead of time for any help.

    Jem,
Pardon me if I sound rude by suggesting that before you launch into an expensive printing job (which could result in disastrous consequences if you don't do it right) that you actually learn how to use the program first. You may also want to learn something about the offset printing process and how to prepare print jobs.
Even many Illustrator novices know that there is no such thing as a background in Illustrator, in the sense that there is in Photoshop. You will need to PLACE your Photoshop background as a high resolution CMYK tiff in the provided template. That's the answer to your second question. I don't really understand your first question. Maybe someone else will. Are you simply asking, "where do I begin?" If so, then you REALLY REALLY need to read a book on how to use Illustrator. The Adobe Illustrator Classroom in a Book might be the place to start.

I just installed Xcode, WebObjects and Dashcode ready to begin learning programming. I have previous experience and know very basic HTML.
Can anyone offer me some advice of what language to learn and how to go about it?

Widgets use the same language as the internet, meaning HTML, CSS, and Javascript. I do not have much experience with Javascript, HTML, or CSS, but you don't really have to when you're making a widget with Dashcode. It's a program that beginners and professionals can both use and create amazing widgets with. A couple of my Widgets i've made are at http://web.mac.com/tarasa/TarasSite/Widgets.html
