Best Compression Settings

I have only 30 minutes Video, What is the best compression setting in compressor 2?
I selected 90 Minutes Best, that gives me these:
average Bit Rate 6.2 Mbps
maximum bit rate 7.7
2pass VBR Best which I can not use, because it gave me problems in the past. I heard that Compressor 3 fixed the problem.
With these setting I still can see pixalations in the fast motion.
Will increase Bit Rates (What is the max)improve the quality?
Thanks,

Hi
Will increase Bit Rates (What is the max) improve the quality?
You'll get playback problems in most stand alone players going over that numbers.
For a 30 min project you can try changing the standard 90 min preset from VBR to CBR:
Take a ahort part of your movie with fast movements/transitions and check if it gives you good results.
Remember encoding your audio to Dolby 2 (AC3).
Hope that helps !

  • Best Compression Settings for Internet - jagged lines

    Hi all,
interested in seeing what people think the best compression settings are from FCE HD to Quicktime. I have a 2 minute video to compress which needs to go on the web. Attempts so far have resulted in jagged edges/lines on any footage which is moving. Locked off shots look great though. I'm trying to keep file size to under 10MB which shouldn't be a problem.
Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

  • [Flash 8 video] Best compression settings

Was wondering if anyone has experience with creating FLV
movies with the best quality and filesize.
I have a few movies which are 464x368 pixels with sound and
the original is about 50 mb big.
I have tried it myself to compress it with the built in
encoder but i got about 15 mb.
Which is in my opinion still very large.
What are the best settings for my situation ? What can i try
to get the best quality/filesize ?
    Thanks !

I use the Flash 8 Video Encoder, and I set the Key frame
placement at auto. The more keyframes you add the larger your file
will be. Next I crop it a bit to remove the black bars that are
sometimes in the video on the sides. The data rate is at 400
kilobits a second, which is the default for medium quality. I
resize the videos to be 480x360, which is a decent size video
window. My resulting files are still pretty large. For every 5
minutes of video the fla file is about 20 megs. So that averages
about 4 megs per minute of video output to 480x360.
To get your files down to 5 megs you are going to have to
work some magic. My guess is that if you get the file down to 5
megs then the quality is going to be pretty bad. The only thing
that could change that is if the video's don't contain a ton of
    movement.
You could try dropping the sound from 96 kpbs stereo to 64
kbps mono. That will save a ton of space but the audio may sound
terrible. You could also try going to a low-medium quality video at
    250 kilobits a second.
    Good luck!

  • Best Compression Settings for Reduced File Sizes

I've been compressing MP4s and trying to improve the video file size but I'm surprised that Adobe Media Encoder is creating larger file sizes despite reducing the dimensions and audio quality. I've tried MP4 and FLV export settings. Does anyone have any recommendations?

  • ...best compression settings for a 12minute dvd

...other than 90 minute preset... and would it yield a better video? And what are the best settings for large screen television? The video is standard definition but anamorphic 720x480. Thanks

You can raise the average bit rate to 6.8 and max bit rate to 8. I use this setting a lot. Below is the bit budget worksheet I use. Though it tops out at 7.8 for max bit rate, it's ok to go to 8 in Compressor.

As far as the large screen question, I believe you are stuck at 720 x 480 because that is what standard def allows.

  • Best QuickTime Audio/Video Compression Settings?

    Hello there,
Before inserting an iMovie to an iDVD project, I must compress it in QuickTime as it won't fit if "shared" as full-quality.
What Audio and Video compression settings will provide, preserve, or enhance the audio/video content? I have the latest version of QuickTime Pro and am pretty savy with it.
Thank you very much for any feedback you may provide.

  • Best volume/compression settings for AUDIO for Rock concert DVD ???

I am putting the finishing touches to a 2 hour rock concert DVD.....
    I am converting the wav/and 5.1 to Dolby 5.1 and 2.0 files ....
They are sounding really quiet compared to the original waves...???
I can see that there are some dolalogue/audio compression settings and something set to -21db.....
How can I make them louder...and if I do will it mess up playing on normal DVD's ....
I know there are some DOLBY compresor settings in mac DVD player that make the sound pump if switched on...
Any thoughts or help would be appreciated???

    Hi
You must change some settings in the standard Dolby presets to keep the original level and mix:
    - Dialog Normalization: -31
    - Compression preset: none
This way your AC3 files will keep the level and mix from your original files.
    Hope that helps !

  • What are the best export settings to use...

    Operating system: Vista SP1
Camera: Canon HF100 (1900x1080 HD quality 29.97fps) -- uses AVCHD compression which is H.264 I believe.
I'm able to watch my camera video files in Vista nicely. However, I'm having trouble with the watching the results of my edited and exported videos. Assuming I want the same quality and playability as the source video, what settings should I use in the export?
In the export settings window... I select:
    Format: H.264
Preset: HDTV 1080p 29.97 High Quality
Source files have the extension: .m2ts
...I don't change the other values. Then I export. Now the result is an .mp4 file which does not play in Windows Media Player. It does play in Quicktime or iTunes however it plays jerkily... I would like to be able to play it as smoothly as the original source plays... And I'd like to be able to play it in windows media player just as the source can be played in media player. Media player seems to play the source more smoothly than does iTunes or Quicktime.
So what are the best export settings for me so that I can watch my edited HD video on my computer as easily as the source footage???
I've been able to edit and save the results of the edit using the crappy ImageMixer3 video editor that comes with the camera. The results are perfect and play in windows media fine. The files it exports the edited video as is the same as the soure... the file extension is .m2ts
So the problem is how to get Adobe to export the edited video to an .m2ts file or at least to a file type that plays as nicely in my system?

    See
Exporting to iPods, cell phones, PSPs and other mobile devices in the PPro Help for details.

  • What are the best export settings for a HD video in Premier Pro CS4?

    Hi!
I've been having so much trouble with this issue and it's something that continually frustrates my boss. I have a HD video the settings for it are
    FPS 23.98
    1920 x 1080, then a few lines down it says 1408 x 792
    16 bit,
    2 channels
    48000 Hz
What should the settings be when I make a new sequence?
When I look at it in the window in Premiere Pro I have to contantly 'shrink' the image to fit the window, is that something I should be doing or does it indicate the sequence settings are incorrect?
But more importantly what should the export settings be? I exported a 4 minute long video and the size was 1 GB, I know that's too big.
I need to export it without loosing any quality and export another one that meets the Youtube and Vimeo limits on size.
Vimeo is 500 MB per week, sometimes I upload 4 videos per week. I think Youtube you can only upload 500 MB at a time.
I need to get smaller sizes with loosing the least amount of quality possible AND the best export settings for quality, so I guess I have 3 separate questions-
What are the best sequence settings for HD video?
What are the best export settings for HD without loosing any quality?
What are the best export settings for the size to come out around 500 MB with loosing the least amount of quality possible?
    Thank You!

On the above thread I used the 5th anwer, and it's going to take about 7 hours to export a 4 minute video :/

    It Stands for "Coder Decoder."
Your format is like a container for your video file. Certain containers can hold certain codecs and not others. Other containers can hold other codecs. Sometimes different containers can hold the same codecs.
This might be a bad analogy but I'll give it a try.
A coffe cup (container) can hold pretty much any liquid you drink, where a red solo cup (container) won't hold scolding water. So, the coffe cup would be your container of choice most likely because it has the most options for liquids (codecs). But, you might want a red solo cup for just a single crappy beer at a party (a moderate quality streaming video on the web). In that case, you don't need all the optoins of another container.
In Premiere Pro CC H.264 is a Container and the Codec in one option. This has been streamlined for web distrobution of video to be played in browsers without things like Flash or special players.
Were as if you choose the QuickTime Container there are over 40 codec optoins (at least on my machine with additinal ones installed) but you may run into an issue where your browser doesn't support QuickTime playback.
I would say that your container is for compatability with players and your codec is taken into consideration when looking at the quality of the compression.
Yesteraday I wrote a blog entery on Exporting from Premiere Pro and found that the MPEG-4 codec inside of the QuickTime container gave me much richer colors than the H.264 container/codec option.

  • BEST COMPRESSION FOR DVD

    HI,
I want to find out the BEST compression setting for a FCP project that is 1hr and 41min. I'm burning it to a DVD that is 120min long.  It's NOT HD.  And it's going to be shown on a wall when it's finished.  What are the best settings for this?
    Thank you for your help.
    Andy

#42 - Quick and dirty way to author a DVD
Shane's Stock Answer #42 - David Roth Weiss' Secret Quick and Dirty Way to Author a DVD:
The absolute simplest way to make a DVD using FCP and DVDSP is as follows:
    1. Export a QT movie, either a reference file or self contained using current settings.
    2. Open DVDSP, select the "graphical" tab and you will see two little monitors, one blue, one green.
    3. Select the left blue one and hit delete.
    4. Now, select the green one, right click on it and select the top option "first play".
    5. Now drag your QT from the browser and drop it on top of the green monitor.
    6. Now, for a DVD from an HD source, look to the right side and select the "general tab" in the track editor, and see the Display Mode, and select "16:9 pan-scan."
    7. Hit the little black and yellow burn icon at the top of the page and put a a DVD in when prompted. DVDSP will encode and burn your new DVD.
    THATS ALL!!!
NOW...if you want a GOOD LOOKING DVD, instead of taking your REF movie into DVD SP, instead take it into Compressor and choose the BEST QUALITY ENCODE (2 pass VBR) that matches your show timing.  Then take THAT result into DVD SP and follow the rest of the steps.  Except you can choose "16:9 LETTERBOX" instead of PAN & SCAN if you want to see the entire image.

  • Best Streamclip settings for iPhone 4 Video - to edit in FCE

First, the problem: iPhone 4 records HD video in h.264. But Final Cut Express doesn't have sequence settings for editing h.264 or iPhone video clips.
The solution: I'm using Streamclip to convert all of my iPhone 4 videos to a format FCE lets me edit in.
Question: What are the optimal settings to insure that my final output retains quality almost equal to the original video shot on my iPhone? (More specifically, I plan on uploading to Youtube as a HD video).
I've read somewhere that I should convert to Quicktime Movie format, with Apple Intermediate Codec 720p 30fps. Is that the best compression type to convert to for editing iPhone 4 videos in FCE? If so, how should the other settings in streamclip be jiggered? For instance, does it make much difference if I set the Quality slider to 100% (As opposed to the default at 50%?) What about audio compression settings?
(P.S. I think it's very annoying that I can't directly edit a video from iPhone 4 on another consumer Apple product, the FCE. Does FCP let me directly edit h.264/iphone 4 videos?)

The slider makes no difference as AIC is variable bit rate within a specific range. No audio compression in FCE ever. Uncompressed stereo 48k, the video standard sample rate.
It would be truly miraculous if FCE worked with iPhone media as the current version predates it by three years, which in computer lifetimes is two generations, basically the equivalent of your grandfather having developed an app for a smartphone when he was a young man. FCP is a mere year old, well before the iPhone did video. Furthermore, if you'd read the forums, you'd see that H.264 is an acquisition and delivery forward. It is not used in production. The codec is not suitable for efficient production and really should never be used there. It's very unfortunate that camera manufacturers have taken the cheap way out and used this codec, rather than actually developing and using a suitable intraframe production codec.

  • Best export settings in iMovie for later import to iDVD

    Hello,
I've created a few iMovie projects that I've put on DVD using the Share To iDVD option.
I have a few different projects that I want to put on one DVD. What are the best export settings in iMovie to create files that I can later import using iDVD?
    Cheers

I would sugest using the Apple defaults - which you will get if you use SHARE/Export Movie.
It is possible to infinitely tweak the parameters by using SHARE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME, but in my experience, you are not likely to visibly improve quality. However, you might be able to get more compression(i.e. a smaller file size) at nearly the same quality.
However, there is no harm in experimenting if you like.
You should use Movie to QuickTime Movie. Click Options. Generally, set the video codec to h.264. If space is not an issue, you can use Apple Intermediate Codec instead, but only if you are going to edit the movie some more. For a final movie, use h.264.
For frame rate, use automatic or 24 frames, but you can use fewer and see if it imporves quality.
For bit rate, you can use up to 20 Mbps, but 16Mbps is the highest I have gone, and that results in a very large file. With h.264, you can get good results with 10 or even lower. (Note: 10 Mbps = 10,000 Kbps)
Here is the HELP section on this.

  • Best export settings for HD video playback on computer?

I have shot my video on 1080p witha DSLR and edited it in premiere pro. I exported the video in .mp4 format.
Now i imported the video in after effects and added loads of animation. I want to export it to the best quality for playback ON COMPUTER ONLY. Which is the best export settings for this purpose.
I rendered it in .avi and my 12 minute video had a size of 55GB after render and did not play smoothly in the computer.. PLEASE HELP WITH THE BEST SETTINGS for the above purpose.

You messed up. You should NOT have rendered MP4 out of Premiere to use in AE. You're adding compression and quality loss in between stages. BAD video person!
The easiest thing to do would be to import your Premiere project in AE. That way it can use the original footage too. If, for some reason, you can't do that, you should render a lossless file out of Premiere. Speaking of lossless files, that's what you rendered out of AE. This page explains your large AE file issue.
Anyway, take that large file you render out of AE into the Adobe Media Encoder and render out your final compressed file. Either H.264 or WMV should work well for playback.

  • Best Compression scheme...

This post is not a question - rather an attempt at a solution that I have read about on these boards for years.
Simply put - how do you get the best looking video from FCP onto a DVD.
A co-worker just stumbled on this protocol & I thought I'd pass it along.
We shoot pro-res 422 16:9 HD, and use FCP 7.
When we export our projects we use the QuickTime conversion
Under "options" we select our video settings > compression type as Apple Pro-Res 422
Under "size" we switch that to NTSC 720 X480 16:9 (this is a preset)
    And turn off internet streaming
    Send it wherever you want.
Then we take it into compressor,
Use DVD best quality 90 minutes
make sure you are on Mpeg-2 6.2 Mps 2-pass
Adjust your "quality" - Avg. bit rate & Max bit rate to the maximum setting.
Double check it is in progressive.
Submit it (and don't forget the audio).
We put these presentations side by side with blu-ray of the same thing and could barely tell a difference (especially on thin line text !) (the toughest)
I'm sure this isn't a solution for everyone, but using the QT conversion (and specifically resizing there) and compressor was something I had never tried before & the results were spectacular.
The reason I posted this is to try and generate productive posts on other solutions people might have had to this question --- what are best compressor settings?
    Take care
    ss

Sounds interesting, I'll have to give it a try at some point. One thing you want to be wary of, however, is the "Adjust your "quality" - Avg. bit rate & Max bit rate to the maximum setting." part-- most older DVD players won't play discs with too high a bitrate, so if you're going for maximum compatibility, a good rule of thumb is to stay below 7.5 Mbps.

  • What's the best compression setting for exporting video to DVD?

My QT self contained file from FCP is 13 GB (1:02 min long) when I use DV NTSC while exporting. When iDVD finished encoding it, it went down to 3.4 GB (that includes video files in my iDVD menus).
*Since the DVD media is 4.7 GB can I make better quality DVD by lessening compression while exporting from FCP?*
I don't think there is a way to tweak compression in iDVD. And my second question:
*Is "self contained" file better quality than just a reference file?*
*I would like to make the best possible quality DVD and am looking for some tips on what settings would help me achieve it.*

    Hi Joby,
    Compressor is what you need.
Import your file, choose DVD best quality 90 minutes from the settings tab (lower left window in Compressor). This will allow your movie to be converted as MPEG 2 and ac3 dolby stereo (best compression for DVD audio).
The inspector window (lower right window) will allow you to decide/arrange settings as you like.
If you are not sure about best bit rate choice use the [Bit Budget|http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/bitbudget.html]
As you can see the inspector window offers a range of customizable settings if you are not familiar with those the manual (main menu>help>user manual) will answer all your questions. Simply type a word or definition in the search area and most likely the manual will provide the info you seek.
Self contained means that you create a file with exact copies from your original frames and edit on the timeline, a self-contained file becomes independent from your timeline. A reference movie as the definition says totally refers to your FCP project and wouldn't work on a different machine without referenced media files.
There is no difference in quality between the two QTmovie options.
    Hope that helps
    G.
