Best practice question for Bounded task flows

We are new to Jdeveloper/ADF and I was wondering if we should always try to use a bounded task flow for our applications... is this considered the best way to develop an app? even the small single page ones?

let me turn teh question around: How many tools do you have at home beside of a hammer ? In other words, its the problem you need to solve (and use cases are problems) that should determine the use of bounded task flows and its granularity. Note that for each use case the bounded task flow makes a good candidate for delivering it. Doesn't mean that every single page needs to go into its own task flow. well, if you want a menu that is owned by the bounded task flow, then you can use trains, as explained in this article

Where should backing bean for bounded-task-flow be declared?

I have a bounded-task-flow that is used inside a dynamic region.
I declared a managed bean to be used by activities (method/view) using the "backingBean" scope managed bean.
There are two possible places that I can register the managed bean:
1. adfc-config.xml
2. the bounded-task-flow-definition.xml
What are the differences between declaring the "backingBean" scope bean in "adfc-config.xml" and in the bounded-task-flow definition?
What is the best practice for registering "backingBean" scope bean?
If I understand correctly, registering the bean in adfc-config.xml is for one or more bounded-task-flow that use the same Bean class for instantiating their own backing bean. If the backing bean java class is only use by specific bounded-task-flow then it should make no difference to register the bean in either xml files.
Am I correct?

It should be registered within the bounded task flow for a couple reasons:
1) Help maintain the encapsulation of the bounded task flow for reuse
2) Managed bean definition metadata residing in adfc-config.xml or bootstrap configuration file will be preloaded when the ADF application is started. The actual managed beans will be instantiated the first time they are referenced. Therefore, to avoid the preload place them in the bounded task flow.

How to create a page-definition for bounded task-flow?

I should be able to create a page definition which declare all bindings required for a bounded task flow.
How do I do it in JDeveloper 11.1.1.2?

Right click on the "Default" activity (not a view activity) of the bounded task flow, select "Create Page Definition" from the context menu.

SAP Adapter Best Practice Question for Deployment to Clustered Environment

I have a best practices question on the iway Adapters around deployment into a clustered environment.
According to the documentation, you are supposed to run the installer on both nodes in the cluster but configure on just the first node. See below:
Install Oracle Application Adapters 11g Release 1 (11.1.1.3.0) on both machines.
Configure a J2CA configuration as a database repository on the first machine.
Perform the required changes to the ra.xml and weblogic-ra.xml files before deployment.
This makes sense to me because once you deploy the adapter rar in the next step it the appropriate rar will get staged and deployed on both nodes in the cluster.
What is the best practice for the 3rdParty adapter directory on the second node? The installer lays it down with the adapter rar and all. Since we only configure the adapter on node 1, the directory on node 2 will remain with the default installation files/values not the configured ones. Is it best practice to copy node 1's 3rdParty directory to node 2 once configured? If we leave node 2 with the default files/values, I suspect this will lead to confusion to someone later on who is troubleshooting because it will appear it was never configured correctly.
What do folks typically do in this situation? Obviously everything works to leave it as is, but it seems strange to have the two nodes differ.

What is the version of operating system. If you are any OS version lower than Windows 2012 then you need to add one more voter for quorum.

Best practice question for implementing a custom component

I'm implementing a custom component which renders multiple <input type="text" .../> controls as part of it. The examples I've seen that do something similar use the ResponseWriter to generate the markup "by hand" like:

I don't know about anyone else, but I HATE having to write code that manufactures this stuff - seems to me that there are already classes that do this, so why not just use those? For example, the above could be replaced with:

Best practice question for Availability Groups setup

I have created a 2012 WFC with 2 nodes (server 1 and server2). Each node will host 2 instance of SQL Server 2014. I am planning to use 2 Availability Groups.
So
Server1\instance A
Server1\instance B
Server2\instance A
Server2\instance B
Thus "instance A" will have AG_A
instance B will have AG_B,
What is the recommend configuration for configuring the Quorum witness? A file share or disk witness? Note that the WFC does not have any shared disks since I'm only using AG (not a clustered SQL server service).

Best Practice Question for Date Compares

Hello,
I'm far from an expert on Oracle and PL/SQL, so I may have this all wrong. I'm working on some selection scripts, and the guy that wrote these before me likes to convert parts of dates to numbers in order to do a compare. It seems to me a trunc(date, part) would be much more efficient. Can anyone confirm my thoughts here?
I'm seeing this a lot:
AND TO_NUMBER (TO_CHAR (scheduleddate, 'YYYY')) = TO_NUMBER (TO_CHAR (SYSDATE - 1, 'YYYY'))
Seems to me that I'd be better off just doing:
trunc(scheduleddate, 'YEAR') = trunc(SysDate, 'YEAR').
Does that make sense?

however , you might want to play around with it a bit to confirm you get the behavior you want in your context. I've not had much reason to use trunc, and in testing a few things just now to reply to admin1, I got some results that surprised me. Another little learning project for me now.
But I stand behind the essence of my original reply. The guy that wrote your original code was jumping through too many hoops (transform functions).

Call adf bounded task flow library programatically

I have a master application where I have one page with a region where all the task flows are going to be aggregated as tabs. Each task flow represents a module and is in a separate application. I add the adf library to the master application for bounded task flow "Module1".
This is my code that works if the bounded task flow is in the master application:

But if bounded tak flow is in separate application the code doesn't work, it shows a blank page and i have defined a page with some panel boxes. So how shoud i call the bounded task flow programatically??.

Yes I see it in the component palette. I found the problem, I see in the task-flow-registry.xml that the path for the bounded task flow is: "module1.xml" and not "WEB-INF/module1.xml". What sould be the correct path?.

Best Practice - Bounded Task Flows, Regions and Nested Application Modules

Using JDev 11.1.1.3; understand that it's generally considered good practice to just have 1 root application module servicing model content / services for each page. In our application, we've used a number of bounded task flows and page fragments deployed as af:region's into pages as either a) views targeted in page-flow navigation, b) tab panel content inside a regular jspx, or c) af:popup / af:dialog content. As it stands, we've not engaged nesting of the application modules for this embedded region content, so these regions are no doubt instantiating new AM's if/when invoked. Should the AM's servicing these embedded regions be deployed nested within the root AM's, and then if so, does this change the way that the jsff / fragment content is actually developed (currently as per any other jspx using the DataControl pallete). Or are the best-practice directives talking about a page as being the design-time / declarative composition of content rather than the run-time aggregation of page + fragments ... in which case the fact that our embedded fragments are not using nested AM's is unlikely to concern.

Data Source for reused bounded task flow

Hi,
I am using JDeveloper 11.1.2.4.0.
I have a project from which I exported a bounded task flow to be used in other projects.
When I include that bounded task flow in a separate project, its data source does not appear in the Databindings.cpx of the project in which it is reused.
How will the data source for the reused task flow be set in the separate project?

By that you mean that you have crated a adfLibrary from the the task flow?

By that you mean you have added the adfLib created above to the other project from the resource palette, right click and 'add to project'?

Once you have added the project you refresh the data control and the other task flow should show up.

subsystem1 = ss1 creates adflib1 with bounded task flow = tf1
subsystem2 = ss2 creates adflib2 with bounded task flow = tf2
Master system imports adflib1 and adflib2
In Master how can I create a app module that nests app modules from adflib1 and adflib2?
In Master, on a single page with splitter, I drop tf1 on one side and tf2 on the other side. I make a data change to tf1 and data change to tf2 and then commit. Changes are not commited on tf2. How can I make it to commit on both task flows 1 and 2?
I tried to create an app module in master and nest app module from ss1 and ss2 under that, but still changes are not committed on tf2.
Any ideas?

Calling bounded task flows imported as ADF libraries

Hello,
I have a main application referencing many bounded task flows included in ADF libraries.
Is there a way to make the application not throwing exceptions if one of these libraries including the called task flow is not found?
The first question is how to catch the exception "Caused by: oracle.adf.controller.ControllerException: ADFC-02001"
The second problem is that once an exception is thrown , the only way to make the application work again with that task flow is to redeploy the whole application with the missing library in the proper place.
It seems it is not possible to just add the library at run-time.
Redoplying an application also seems to invalidate all the current open sessions.
Could you give me suggestions or best practice on making the main application more indipendent from the libraries?

It seems there's no way to catch the exception thrown when dinamically calling a bounded task flow in a (missing) library. In facts, I added the single page of the main application as default exception handler activity. I also tried to catch ALL exceptions in the Launcher class below, but I had no luck at all. Task flows are called dinamically from this common piece of code (appropriate for the UI Shell template):

I also tried to call the task flow in a remote application, but TabContext.getCurrentInstance().addTab(title, taskflowId) expects the taskflowid to be part of the main application, not of the remote app, since addTab() always add a "/" before the taskflowid String passes as parameter.
So again my question: is there a way to profit by the dynamic features coming along with the UI Shell template, where task flows can be really referenced and called each time at run-time, no matter if libraries containing these task flows are present or not when deploying the caller application?
I also repeat that from the tests I have done it looks like I can deploy the caller application without the referenced ADF libraries in their place (containing taskflows that should be called at run-time on user actions), but the problem in this case is that after that moment there's no way to fix the problem by just adding the missing library, that is you cannot place the library where it is expected to be and expect the caller to work after next call; this will just not work until next deploy of the calling application when libraries are in place . We also don't want completely separate web applications. We need task flows integration with the chance to modify and deploy these taskflows as ADF libraries at run time, separately from the caller of the taskflow, without needing to restart/deploy the caller application everytime a libraries changes or a missing library is added.
