Best practice Warnings in OBIEE 10G

Hi
Today i suddenly checked in my RPD that tere are 250 best practice warnings. Most are related to keys not defined etc.
I want to know what is the impact of best practice warnings. as to resolve 250 warnings, i will hve to invest lot of time.
If its helpful and do somethign good to OBIEE dashboards etc, then only i will be spening more time to this.
Please suggest.

Hi,
Warnings may not be harmful to your code but perfect code may give you the best performance.Defining keys is the best practice becos it will increase the query performance.May be you didnt define keys on unused objects ,so the unused stuff in the RPD may degrade the performance.Anyway we are not always follow the best practices but do which is possible.
mark if helpful/correct...
thanks,
prassu

  • Best Practice for Resolving OAS 10g R3 Classloading Issues

    What's the best practices for eliminating classloading issues for shared libraries that are loaded by default (apache.commons.logging, oracle.toplink, etc) in OAS 10g R3?
    So far it looks like my options are to exclude the conflicting JARs in my deployed applications or manually remove the entries from the application.xml and system-application.xml files in the OC4J instance config directory.
    I know that I can override the shared libraries loaded from the system-application.xml by using the <web-app-class-loader search-local-classes-first="true"/> element in my orion-web.xml but is that the best practice? Also note that this solution does not override the apache.commons.logging shared library loaded from the container's application.xml.
    So what is the best practice?

  • Obiee 11g : Best practice for filtering data allowed to user

    Hi gurus,
    I have a table of the allowed areas for each user.
    I want to show only the data facts associated with these allowed areas.
    For instance my user scott can see France and Italy data.
    I made a variable session. I put this session variable in a filter.
    It works ok but only one value (the first one i think) is taken in account (for instance, with my solution scott will see only france data).
    I need all the possible values.
    I tried with the row wise parameter of the variable session. But it doesn't work (error obiee).
    I've read things on internet about using stragg or valuelistof but neither worked.
    What would be the best practice to achieve this goal of filtering data with conditions by user stored in database ?
    Thanks in advance, Emmanuel

  • Best practices for gathering statistics in 10g

    I would like to get some opinions on what is considered best practice for gathering statistics in 10g. I know that 10g has auto statistics gathering, but that doesn't seem to be very effective as I see some table stats are way out of date.
    I have recommended that we have at least a weekly job that generates stats for our schema using DBMS_STATS (DBMS_STATS.gather_schema_stats). Is this the right approach to generate object stats for a schema and keep it up to date? Are index stats included in that using CASCADE?
    Is it also necessary to gather system stats? I welcome any thoughts anyone might have. Thanks.

    Hi,
    Is this the right approach to generate object stats for a schema and keep it up to date? The choices of executions plans made by the CBO are only as good as the statistics available to it. The old-fashioned analyze table and dbms_utility methods for generating CBO statistics are obsolete and somewhat dangerous to SQL performance. As we may know, the CBO uses object statistics to choose the best execution plan for all SQL statements.
    I spoke with Andrew Holsworth of Oracle Corp SQL Tuning group, and he says that Oracle recommends taking a single, deep sample and keep it, only re-analyzing when there is a chance that would make a difference in execution plans (not the default 20% re-analyze threshold).
    I have my detailed notes here:
    http://www.dba-oracle.com/art_otn_cbo.htm
    As to system stats, oh yes!
    By measuring the relative costs of sequential vs. scattered I/O, the CBO can make better decisons. Here are the data items collected by dbms_stats.gather_system_stats:
    No Workload (NW) stats:
    CPUSPEEDNW - CPU speed
    IOSEEKTIM - The I/O seek time in milliseconds
    IOTFRSPEED - I/O transfer speed in milliseconds
    I have my notes here:
    http://www.dba-oracle.com/t_dbms_stats_gather_system_stats.htm
    Hope this helps. . . .

  • Best practice to modify OIM webApp.war in Weblogic (10g - 9102)

    I very generic question for OIM in Weblogic:
    If I'm doing any change(minor or major) in any of the JSP file in OIM xlWebApp.war, what is the best practice of moving it to production ?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    Here the steps you should do:
    - unwar the xlWebApp.war file (through jar command)
    - Modify/add the jsp's.
    - War it again.
    - copy/replace that at XEL_HOME/webapp location.
    - if you had modified xml or properties file, copy that to DDTemplate/webapp
    - run patch_weblogic command.
    - restart server.
    You can also write a build script which will take OOTB xlWebApp.war and custom jsp's and will generate new xlWebApp.war.
    Once tested successfully in dev/QA env, you can check in code and new xlWebApp.war file in some subversion.
    In Production you can directly use this xlWebApp.war file and run patch command.

  • Best practice Forms 10g configuration setup and tuning

    Hi,
    We are currently depolying forms 10g from 6i client/server version. Users are experiencing Form hangups and hour glasses. This does not happen that often but can happen any time, anywhere in the app (users do inserts, updates and deletes and queries).
    Is there a baseline best practice configuration setup anywhere either in the Forms side or the AppServer side of things?
    Here is our setup:
    Forms 10g (9.0.4)
    Reports 10g (9.0.4)
    Oracle AppServer 10g (9.0.4)
    OS = RedHat Linux
    Client Workstations run on Windows 2000 and XP w/ Internet Explorer 6 or higher
    Average No. of users = 250
    Thanks for all your help

    Shutdown applications within the guest.
    Either power off from Oracle VM Manager or 'xm shutdown xxx' from the command line
    It is possible one or more files could be open when the shutdown is initiated.
    Have found at least one case of misconfigured IP which would have resulted in the disk access being via the 'Front End' interface rather than the Back End.
    Thanks

  • Oracle Best Practices in 10g When Disabling NUMA

    We have both Linux and Solaris 10 DB servers running 10g on them with NUMA. What is Oracle's best practice for dealing with NUMA in hardware when it can be disabled?

    NUMA can be implemented at CPU level - in which case CPU affinity becomes important. NUMA can be used across an Interconnect (e.g. SCSI over RDMA protocol).
    So it depends on what you mean by NUMA and how you are using it (and whether or not it is used by the Oracle s/w stack itself).

  • Oracle JDBC (10g) reading clobs -- best practices

    What is the better approach using oracle 10g to save clobs:
    #1) This:
    PreparedStatement pstmt = conn.prepareStatement
    //Create the clob for insert
    Clobs Clobs = new Clobs();
    CLOB TempClob = Clobs.CreateTemporaryCachedCLOB(conn);
    java.io.Writer writer = TempClob.getCharacterOutputStream();
    writer.write(Description);
    writer.flush();
    writer.close();
    #2) Or this:
    OraclePreparedStatement pstmt = (OraclePreparedStatement)conn.prepareStatement
    pstmt.setStringForClob()
    According to my notes, it is #2.
    What is the better approach to read clobs:
    #1) Stream the clob
    //Get character stream to retrieve clob data
    Reader instream = ClobIn.getCharacterStream();
    //Create temporary buffer for read
    char[] buffer = new char[10];
    //Length of characters read
    int length = 0;
    //Fetch data
    while ((length = instream.read(buffer)) != -1){
    for (int i=0; i<length; i++){
    Contents += buffer;
    //Close input stream
    instream.close();
    //Empty LOB
    ClobIn.empty_lob();
    #2) Or this:
    Simply use rs.getString() to get your clob contents. This will return the entire clob and will not truncate.
    Im just confused on the best practices for performance/memory allocation and I keep reading people saying different.
