Binary Data type in Logical - Is it a bug?

Binary Data type in Logical - Is it a bug?
Hi ,
I am using SQL DM 3.0.0.665. I need your thoughs on following.
I have an attribute in logical model with binary datatype. As I generate physical, SQL DM putting the column in BLOB data type. I thought binary means 1 bit ON/OFF type.
What is the interpretation?
Thanks in helping us out.

I thought binary means 1 bit ON/OFF typeYou can check mapping of logical type to native database types in "Tools>Types administration". Data Modeler comes with set of predefined logical type and their purpose is to cover all native types in supported databases.
Nothing can stop you to change predefined types if you don't like them or/and to create your own types.
In the case of "Binary" - it's introduced to cover "binary" type in MS SQL Server - it's sequence of bytes not bits or bit.

  • BINARY data types

    Hi all,
I have a simple question. I want to reproduce the SET data types (mysql) in Oracle. So I want assign a binary value to a column. I create a column with CHAR(1) type and I want assign for example 00000010 binary value.
    It's possible ?
    Thanks in advance

    2) RAW data type is not present in express edition. And I use it for migration testing...Why do you believe that the RAW data type isn't present in the express edition? The UTL_RAW package is included in the express edition and I'm not finding any obvious documentation indicating that RAW columns aren't supported in the express edition.
    3) In certain case, I need to store approximately 60 elements. That's why I want to use binary data type. It reduce space to 8 bytes.Unless we're talking about a table with billions of rows, is a difference of at most 52 bytes per row really going to make a difference? Particularly given the extra overhead of doing the binary comparisons? And 52 bytes is an upper limit, since trailing NULL values don't require any storage space

Plus, 60 separate flag columns will be a heck of a lot easier for future reporting tools to handle rather than having everyone try to decode the values. And you can use bitmap indexes, regular indexes, etc much more easily.

  • Changing domain-defined Timestamp data type to logical Date doesn't persist

    Hi:
    Version 3.1.0.691 on Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit SP1
I imported a domain from Designer, and then imported a schema from a database, all into the same model, in that order. I then changed the data type on several columns from non-domain, logiical Date data types to Domain-defined Timestamp Wth Time Zone data types. After having done this, I decided that I wanted to leave them as they were and tried to change them back. I went into the relational model section for each table/column and de-selected the domain radio button, chose Logical, and then set the data type to Date. I clicked apply, OK, and then saved the entire model. I closed Data Modeler, re-opened it, and then checked the data type change. I found that the change from domain to logical was saved, but the data type remained as Timestamp With Time Zone instead of remaining as Date like I'd set it. I've tried changing from Timestamp With Time Zone to other data types and then to Date but it didn't work.
Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?
    Thanks!
    Doc

    Hi:
One final comment. I set the domain back to unknown and clicked appy, but left the Column Properties dialog box open. I then clicked the button next to Datatype (which showed UNKNOWN{Unknown}, changed the radio button from Domain to Logical Type, and then selected Date from the list box and clicked OK. Immediately after having clicked OK, the Logical Type dialog box remained open and the Logical Type value within the Logical Type dialog box reverted back to Unknown. I re-selected Date from the list box, clicked OK, and after this second try it kept the change without the "double clutch."

  • Binary Data Type in finder methods for CMP beans

How to write an equivalent ejb-ql query in ejb-jar.xml for a finder method accepting
a byte array as a parameter. The finder method is for a cmp-field mapped to a
database field with binary data type

Using CMP 2.x, your custom finder and select methods are implemented by the container based on the EJB QL query you provide in the ejb-jar.xml. In CMP 1.1, there was no portable way to express the semantics of the query, so most vendors had a vendor-specific syntax for describing the query.
See chapter 27 of the J2EE 1.4 Tutorial for some examples of using EJB QL :

  • How to create longtext or blob data types in SQL using labview

    Hello,
I am fairly new to SQL, and I'm using the labview database connectivity toolset.  Using labview 6.1
I am using the DB Tools Create Table vi to create my tables.  I want the tables to hold 1000 character strings.  But the longest string that I can insert seem to be 255 characters.  I think It is a limitation of the "String" data type in SQL so I need to use text or blob types.  The problem is I created a control for the "Column Information" field and I see the following selections for the data type. (String, Long, Single, Double, date/time, binary).  I dont see any selection for text or blobs.  How do I define another data type that is not part of the selection in the control?
    Thanks for any help.

I don't know about defining long text, but the equivalent of a BLOB should be the binary data type, which just holds the data you put into it without formatting it.

  • Unsupported Data Type (migration from Access 2000)

    Hi,
I'm trying to convert an MS Access 2000 database, which contains a table with 2 'Binary' data type columns.
The OMWB does not seem to know this Data Type, and the GUI does not allow me to add it. Is there any other way to add this Data Type ??
I should somehow get it to convert to Oracle RAW.
Generating the Oracle Model with the 'Binary' type in the xml file generates errors.
    thanx in advance,

  • How to receive the images / binary data t ype

How to receive the images / binary data type in webdynpro....
i have a website that let's the user send email, the email attachment and message are stored in both in images data type....
q1) can i stored the message into binary data type...but the message is very long.....
q2) if i have a textbox ...i surely will need to display the message  in string ,right ?
    [......... msg here ........]
what is the codes to receive the images / binary data type in webdynpro....

As in your previous post if you are storing them as BLOB object.. am sure you are able to get a byte stream or byte array(bytes[]) out of it.
There should be some way to identify if its a image or a message BLOB. If its a image , convert into bytes and use
       WDWebResource.getWebResource(bytes,resource type).getAbsoluteURL()
to obtain the url.. assign this image UI element..
In case its the message , use bytes.toString to get the message ..

  • URGENT: Illegal Argument Exception for  RAW data type in Web Dynpro

I am getting this error in the following scenario.
I want to save the text fields from an interactive form to SAP through RFC enabled function module. The type in the model and controller is byte[]. I have converted the string attribute from view to save to the model. But the model dictionary in Web Dynpro project (model) has this type as Binary (meta data model through EFC). The type in SAP is RAW. I am going nuts since a week to solve this.
    IS this a bug? I am using NW04s - SP12. and NWDS 7.0.9

Issue with the RAW data types is resolved now. I have changed the data type of the field into String in the dictionary (web dynpro).. I have changed the corresponding getters and setter functions from byte[] to string. And everything working fine now. I got the Illegal Argument exception initially because I was trying to display the binary data type fields on the adobe form or view which I am not supposed to do.
Also it is better to create separate view attributes in the context to get the values rather than mapping the model attributes directly in the form or view.

  • Small binary data in the database ... whats best?

    Hello,
Maybe this is a novice question but i hope you can advice me about how to proceed.
I am storing little binary data (til 20Kb) in VARCHAR2 field ... but i feel a bit dirty.
Is it a good practice? ... are there good reasons to choose other data types like BLOB, or RAW?
    Thank you in advance,
    Best regards,

You need to use a binary data type otherwise Oracle Net may convert data using NLS rules. http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e26088/sql_elements001.htm#SQLRF50993 says:
    >
RAW is a variable-length data type like VARCHAR2, except that Oracle Net (which connects client software to a database or one database to another) and the Oracle import and export utilities do not perform character conversion when transmitting RAW or LONG RAW data. In contrast, Oracle Net and the Oracle import and export utilities automatically convert CHAR, VARCHAR2, and LONG data between different database character sets, if data is transported between databases, or between the database character set and the client character set, if data is transported between a database and a client. The client character set is determined by the type of the client interface, such as OCI or JDBC, and the client configuration (for example, the NLS_LANG environment variable).

  • Handling RAW data types (from SAP) in Adobe forms - Illegal Arg Exception

    Hi,
I have a scenario where I have to get data of type RAW in SAP to Adobe Forms using web dynpro java. What is the corresponding type in Web Dynpro / Adobe Forms.
I am using Adaptive RFC and when I get the model from SAP function module, the RAW type is created as Binary type in the data dictionary of Web Dynpro.
When I map the model context to controller context, the type is taken as byte[].
I tried to set the attribute for this field and I got the Illegal Argument Exception error.

  • Identify bind variable data type 121?

Looks like the OCI forum is not popular. Reposting here with hopes of better luck... Or perhaps I wasn't specific enough for the forum? OK, this is obviously a binary data type. The problem is that I want to know exactly which of them it is. Or I'd like to know if someone has improperly coded an OCI application. Here's the original post.
I received a level 12 SQL trace file that referenced data type 121 for a bind variable value. I have searched unsuccessfully for documentation in many places. Can anyone tell me what data type this is? Following is the relevant excerpt from the trace file.
    bind 18: dty=121 mxl=4000(4000) mal=00 scl=00 pre=00 oacflg=00 oacfl2=1 size=4000 offset=0

    Hi
The following are the internal datatypes used by oracle related to 121.
    KOTAD, KOTMD, KOTMI, KOTTB, KOTTD
Not sure about their exact use but these datatypes might be used internally for LOB's.
    Hope it helps.

  • Generate Serializable data types with WSDLC

    Hello everyone,
I'll was pretending to send a through a JMS ObjectMessage a type generated from WSDL with the wsdlc ant task. Unfortunately the generated types are not serializable and so I'm unable to send the message. It's really ackward to manualy change all of them so I would like to know if it's possible to instruct wsdlc to generate serializable data types. I'm using Weblogic 11gR1PS1. If it's not possible what do you recommend ?
Currently the tasks are configured like this:
    <taskdef name="wsdlc" classpathref="weblogic.classpath" classname="weblogic.wsee.tools.anttasks.WsdlcTask" />
    <wsdlc srcWsdl="ejbModule/META-INF/wsdl/DataCatalog.wsdl" destJwsDir="gen" destImplDir="gen" packageName="br.com.allwayx.schema" type="JAXWS">
Obs: I noticed that If I use a binding element inside the task passing any xjb file the wsdlc task generates a pair of Entity interface - EntityImpl implementation class. It stays like this:
    <wsdlc srcWsdl="ejbModule/META-INF/wsdl/DataCatalog.wsdl" destJwsDir="gen" destImplDir="gen" packageName="br.com.allwayx.schema" type="JAXWS">
                   <binding dir="${binding.declaration.dir}" includes="${binding.declaration.file}" />
    </wsdlc>
Still I would like to keep the old way, without the binding element which generates just a concrete class for each element. Maybe this is a bug?
    Thank you !
Edited by: Lupan on 28/04/2010 13:13

    Hi Lupan,
Currently I believe there is no way to instruct WSDLC task to generate the Serializable data types.
There was already a BUG opened with BEA for WLS -9.0 following are the BUG details:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13222_01/wls/docs100/issues/known_resolved.html
    CR228385
    Description:
The Web Service Description Language (WSDL) compiler does not generate serializable data types, so data cannot be passed to remote EJBs or stored in a JMS destination.
You should contact the Oracle Weblogic Support to get the current status of the BUG.

  • Sporadically getting error "string or binary data would be truncated" in SQL server 2008 while inserting in a Table Type object

I am facing a strange SQL exception:-
The code flow is like this:
    .Net 4.0 --> Entity Framework --> SQL 2008 ( StoredProc --> Function {Exception})
In the SQL Table-Valued Function, I am selecting a column (nvarchar(50)) from an existing table and (after some filtration using inner joins and where clauses) inserting the values in a Table Type Object having a column (nvarchar(50))
This flow was working fine in SQL 2008 but now all of sudden the Insert into @TableType is throwing  "string or binary data would be truncated"  exception.
    Insert Into @ObjTableType
    Select * From dbo.Table
The max length of data in the source column is 24 but even then the insert statement into nvarchar temp column is failing.
Moreover, the same issue started coming up few weeks back and I was unable to find the root cause, but back then it started working properly after few hours
(issue reported at 10 AM EST and was automatically resolved post 8 PM EST). No refresh activity was performed on the database.
This time however the issue is still coming up (even after 2 days) but is not coming up in every scenario. The data set, for which the error is thrown, is valid and every value in the function is fetched from existing tables.
Due to its sporadic nature, I am unable to recreate it now :( , but still unable to determine why it started coming up or how can i prevent such things to happen again.
It is difficult to even explain the weirdness of this bug but any help or guidance in finding the root cause will be very helpful.
I also Tried by using nvarchar(max) in the table type object but it didn't work.

I have tried by converting the columns and also validated the input data set for any white spaces or special characters.
For the same input data, it was working fine till yesterday but suddenly it started throwing the exception.

Remember, the CTE isn't executing the SQL exactly in the order you read it as a human (don't get too picky about that statement, it's at least partly true enough to say it's partly true), nor are the line numbers or error messages easy to read: a mismatch
in any of the joins along the way leading up to your insert could be the cause too.  I would suggest posting the table definition/DDL for:
    - PSMetadata, in particular PSRowID, but just post it all
    - tblProjectSur, in particularcolumns CSymbID and TblProjSurSurID
    - cSymbLookup, in particular column CSymbID
    - PSRow, in particular columns SampleRowID, PID,
    - PSAuser and PSUserSur, in particualr all the USERID and RowID columns
    - SurCSymbs, in particular colum SIDs
Also, a diagnostic query along these lines, repeat for each of your tables, each of the columns used in joins leading up to your insert:
    Select count(asurv.sid) as count all
, count(case when asurv.sid between 0 and 9999999999 then 1 else null end) as ctIsaNumber
    from SurvCsymb
The sporadic nature would imply that the optimizer usually chooses one path to the data, but sometimes others, and the fact that it occurs during the insert could be irrelevant, any of the preceding joins could be the cause, not the data targeted to be inserted.

  • How can I read a binary file stream with many data type, as with AcqKnowledge physio binary data file?

I would like to read in and write physiological data files which were saved by BioPacs AcqKnowledge 3.8.1 software, in conjunction with their MP150 acquisition system. To start with, Id like to write a converter from different physiodata file format into the AcqKnowledge binary file format for version 3.5 3.7 (including 3.7.3). It will allow us to read different file format into an analysis package which can only read in file written by AcqKnowledge version 3.5 3.7 (including 3.7.3).
I attempted to write a reader following the Application Note AS156 entitled AcqKnowledge File Format for PC with Windows (see http://biopac.com/AppNotes/ app156Fi
leFormat/FileFormat.htm ). Note the link for the Mac File format is very instructive too - it is presented in a different style and might make sense to some people with C library like look (http://biopac.com/AppNotes/ app155macffmt/macff.htm).
I guess the problem I had was that I could not manage to read all the different byte data stream with File.vi. This is easy in C but I did not get very far in LabView 7.0. Also, I was a little unsure which LabView data types correspond to int, char , short, long, double, byte, RGB and Rect. And, since it is for PC I am also assuming the data to be written as little endian integer, and thus I also used byte swap vi.
Two samples *.acq binary files are attach to this post to the list. Demo.acq is for version 3.7-3.7.2, while SCR_EKGtest1b.acq was recorded and saved with AcqKnowledge 3.8.1, which version number is 41.
I would be grateful if you someone could explain how to handle such binary file stream with LabView and send an example to i
    llustrate it.
Many thanks in advance for your help.

The reading of double is also straight forward : just use a dble float wired to the type cast node, after inverting the string (indian conversion).
    See the attached example.
The measure of skin thickness is based on OCT (optical coherent tomography = interferometry) : an optical fiber system send and received light emitted to/back from the skin at a few centimeter distance. A profile of skin structure is then computed from the optical signal.

  • Data Modeler Logical Data Type confusion!

    I don't get it.
When defining a logical model, I want to assign data types to the attributes in my model.
I understand a logical datatype like money, and that a logical datatype might be implemented differently in different databases. The concept makes perfect sense to me.
I pick a datatype from the Logical Types.
It ignores the logical datatype that I picked and puts in another datatype instead. I'm guessing that it's a physical mapping. I would understand the logical-to-relational mapper doing that , but I don't understand it happening at this point in the model life cycle.
Let's say I pick Money. It puts Double into the logical datatype, not money.
If I pick Date or DateTime, it puts Date into the logical datatype, so what is the point of giving me two types to pick from?
    Seems kind of wonky.

    David,
We will publish soon a document on how the data types work.
If you go to tools, Types administration you will see that a logical type is mapped to a native type and a native type is mapped to a logical type.
The logical type MONEY is mapped to DOUBLE for Oracle.
Types and domain files can be customised.
One could argue that the logical name MONEY should show up and not the native name. Showing the native name has the benifit that you see what the logical type is mapped to. Both approaches could have their supporters, no?
    Kind regards,
