Blog Notifictions web part

Within my SharePoint 2013 site, I have a blog subsite, within my main site I see a Blog Notifications web part that I can add to my home page. The description for that web part is {Provides quick links to register for blog posts notifications using Alerts
or RSS feed}, I created an RSS feed from my blog site, however, how can I show it within the Blog Notification web part? When I go to edit web part there is nothing there to configure it to read something.
I know how to read the blogs from an CQWP, however, I was hoping to use the blog notifications web part.
can I even use it or is a useless web part?

Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to how to use Blog Notification web part in SharePoint 2013.
Per my knowledge, the Blog Notification web part should be used in blog site and it can provide quick links to see the RSS Feed and create alerts for the blog posts.
After adding the Blog Notifications web part in blog site, it will display RSS Feed and Alert Me quick links in the page, please refer to the picture below:
Best regards.

  • Customizing the blog post web part to not show entire entries

    I have a blog site, and as you know, the posts web part shows the entire contents of each listed post, rather than one paragraph, followed by a "click here to read more" link.  I know that there is no out-of-box functionality for this, because of course,
    why would there be? Who needs nice looking blogs?  Anyway, I found this on the internet:
    http://zabistop.blogspot.com/2009/02/customizing-sharepoint-blog-posts-web.html
    It knows what's up, but it's outdated and the code doesn't mesh with what I have. Are there any articles similar to this online? I can't be the first person who thought of this, and doing it from the ground up is not an option. I appreciate any help.

    In 2010 you can make the same changes using a similar method.
    Open the default.aspx page, in code view click in within the blog area. In the ribbon click on the List View tools >design. Click on Customize XSLT in the Actions panel. When you do that you will be able to see all the code.
    Find this line of code <xsl:template name="FieldRef_Note_body.Body" ddwrt:dvt_mode="body" match="FieldRef[@Name='Body']" mode="Note_body" ddwrt:ghost="hide">
    Approx line 402. It actually looks like   </xsl:template><xsl:template name="FieldRef.... so you will have to place your cursor after the template close and hit enter a few times to make space for the code.
    Directly above that line, where you have added spaces, include this code. (I cheated and grabbed this code from another site where we did the same thing - and was able to modify it slightly to work for the blog.)
    <!-- used to strip out HTML from passed-in field -->
        <xsl:template name="removeHtmlTagsFromField">
         <xsl:param name="html"/>
         <xsl:choose>
             <xsl:when test="contains($html, '&lt;')">
                 <xsl:value-of select="substring-before($html, '&lt;')"/>
                 <!-- Recurse through HTML removing all markup -->
                 <xsl:call-template name="removeHtmlTagsFromField">
                     <xsl:with-param name="html" select="substring-after($html, '&gt;')"/>
                 </xsl:call-template>
             </xsl:when>
             <xsl:otherwise>
                 <xsl:value-of select="$html"/>
             </xsl:otherwise>
         </xsl:choose>
     </xsl:template>
    Next below the line ( should be the next line below the pasted code)   <xsl:template name="FieldRef_Note_body.Body" ddwrt:dvt_mode="body" match="FieldRef[@Name='Body']" mode="Note_body" ddwrt:ghost="hide">
    Locate the       <xsl:param name="thisNode" select="."/> and paste the following code:
      <!-- call "removeHtmlTagsFromField" template to strip out html markup from the field -->
     <xsl:variable name="textOnlyDescription">
         <xsl:call-template name="removeHtmlTagsFromField">
             <xsl:with-param name="html" select="$thisNode/@*[name()=current()/@Name]" />
         </xsl:call-template>
     </xsl:variable>
    I have already swichted out the select content with the content that was in the xsl line that renders the body content.
    Locate the code  ( should be 2 lines down)     <xsl:value-of select="$thisNode/@*[name()=current()/@Name]" disable-output-escaping="yes"/>
    Comment the code out and replace with the following code:
          <xsl:value-of select="substring($textOnlyDescription, 0, 320)" disable-output-escaping="yes"/>
          <xsl:if test="string-length($textOnlyDescription)>320">...</xsl:if>
    Change the number to your desired length.
    Save your file.
    You can revert the file if you ever need to, after its checked in, by right clicking on the page and selecting reset to site definition.
    Hope this helps. I plan on doing a post shortly covering this and will have screen shots.

  • How to Resolve Can not Display Web part error using CQWP and a blog

    I have  a SharePoint 2010 site with a home page that has a  CQWP (content Query Web Part) tied to the most recent blog of blog site with a list of blogs.  Randomly, some clients will experience a "Unable to display
    a web part". Our client machines are set up with Roaming profiles that are PKI enabled.  Some users are always able to see the resulting blog on the home page, while other users, experience sporadic ability to see the blog ----getting a
    "Unable to display web part".  Also a client can be on one machine and get the error and then log on to another machine and not get the error. Its also seems that when a new blog is added to the blog list this is when the
    ability to see the blog on the home page may come up as an error.  Our setup is simple:   show items= list/posts, List type=Posts, Content Type Group= List Content Type, Content type=Posts,  no audience targeting, not additonal filters,
    group items by = None Descending,  #columns =1, sort items by =published -descending   Limit # display items = 1,  Gropup style = Default,  itemstyle= image on left,  yes play media links,  Fields to display = titlt
    and Description (body)
     What kind of things could cause the random behavior?

    Hi,
    According to your description, my understanding is that the error occurred occasionally with the Content Query web part.
    I tested the same scenario in my environment, and the web part worked fine.
    I recommend to verify the things below:
    Did this issue occur with all the Content Query web part? I recommend to create a new Content Query web part to see if the issue still occurs.
    Did this issue occur with all the users who have permission to view the web part?
    Deactivate the Publish feature and then re-activate it to see if the issue still occurs.
    Check the ULS log for detailed error message.
    Best regards.

  • Create a Site Definition file with Visual Web part in Visual Studio

    I tried to create a site definition file in Visual Studio 2013 and SharePoint 2013 by following the MSDN tutorial:
    Walkthrough: Create a Basic Site Definition Project. Near the end, I added a virtual web part control to the site definition and registered MyWebPartControls in the site definition's default ASPX page as written in the MSDN tutorial:
    Unfortunately, IntelliSense doesn't show any MyWebPartControls: tags, and VisualWebPart1 is highlighted with a warning “Element 'SMWebPart3' is not a known element. This can
    occur if there is a compilation error in the Web site, or the web.config file is missing.”
    Since it’s a warning, I went ahead to build and deploy the solution. However, when I used the site definition template to create a subsite, it returned a parser error:
    Unknown server tag 'MyWebPartControls:TestSiteDef1.VisualWebPart1'
    I spent half day researching and debugging, and finally solved the problem. The issue is on the registration line:
    <%@ Register Tagprefix="MyWebPartControls" Namespace="TestSiteDef.VisualWebPart1" Assembly="$SharePoint.Project.AssemblyFullName$" %>
    The $SharePoint.Project.AssemblyFullName$ is a replaceable parameter to provide values for SharePoint solution items whose actual values are not known at design time. Unfortunately, it does not find the right assembly name during the deployment. It should
    be replaced by the Assembly’s Strong Name. Here is how I fixed the problem step by step:
    In Solution Explorer, open the package node and double click Package.package
    Click Manifest tab in the Package.package.
    Copy the full assembly name in the package’s manifest. It may be similar like this:
              Assembly="TestSiteDef,
    Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=a300f1f2da8ae976"
    Back to the site definition’s default.aspx page, replace the
                     Assembly="$SharePoint.Project.AssemblyFullName"
    in the registration line with the copied text:
    Assembly="TestSiteDef,
    Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=a300f1f2da8ae976"
    Change the Namespace from
    Namespace="TestSiteDef.VisualWebPart1"
    to
    Namespace="TestSiteDef".
    The line to register the web part in a site definition file will look like this:
    <%@
    Register
    Tagprefix="MyWebPartControls"
    Namespace="TestSiteDef "
    Assembly="TestSiteDef, Version=1.0.0.0,
    Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=a300f1f2da8ae976"
    %>
    Clean, build and deploy the solution. It works like charm. (Note: the warning message on visual web part may still exist, but you can ignore it).

    Assuming your .ascx.vb file is inheriting from the web part class, you can add the custom properties in the same manor (language syntax aside).
    Be sure to use the attributes to correctly identify and scope the properties. (see:

  • Sharepoint Foundation 2010 - Searching for a commentBox web part

    Hello!
    Im sort of new to Sharepoint and i have been working with it in two weeks now. Im currently an full controll user on the site my company is using and im also using Sharepoint Designer. The site is running on Sharepoint Foundation 2010
    I have been digging for sometime after a web part that enables users to leave a message on the home page. I want the same fuction as i get when i create a BlogSite (there you can create posts and comments).
    My first thought was to find a Web Part which will allow me to do this, but i was sort of wrong. I found some examples like this: social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/newthread?category=sharepoint&forum=sharepointgeneralprevious
    Im still trying to make that work but so far no luck.
    So i was wondering if there is a better way to create a function that will allow users to create posts/comments etc?
    Thanks for any help!

  • People Picker/Edit Web Parts/More not working in IE11

    So, we just installed IE11 in our company and found the following issues with SharePoint 2010:
    People Picker not working
    At Search site, when you type in string(s) and hit Enter, nothing happens (you must click the search button)
    Cannot edit web parts on Wiki Page
    After doing some exhaustive homework (and installing Sep 2014 CU to see they were fixed), the only 2 solutions are:
    Run in compatibility Mode
    Fix the below tag in the Master Page and People Picker headers (14 hive)
    meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=8"
    So, I just want to know if others have encountered this and what they did to resolve (compatibility mode or change the tags or other).
    I have a ticket open with Microsoft, we installed Sept 2014 CU, and are still having these 3 issues.
    Godspeed,

    Hi,
    Thanks for posting your issue,
    We know that IE11 has compatibility issues. Kindly follow below mentioned steps to solve this issue
    1. Installed all the latest Update for IE 11
    2. Add the site in compatibility Mode (Tools> Compatibility view settings> type site name> add)
    3. Add the site in trusted sites and set the security Zone level to low ( IE> Internet Options> Security> trusted sites> sites>add your site there> ok> custom level> select low> reset> ok)
    Also, browse the below mentioned URLs for more details to fix this issue.

  • Using multiple refinement web parts on the same page but have them hidden until needed

    I have a search results page that has several different Core Results web parts on it (each is connected to a different result source). all hidden by tabs using the HillbillyTabs interface
    http://www.sharepointhillbilly.com/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=42
    unfortunately you cant share a refinement web part across multiple results web parts. So I am left trying to figure out how to hide several refinement web parts and only show the active refinement webpart when the result source tab is selected.
    The template im using is an OOTB standard search results template with the refinement panel on the left navigation zone and the core results web parts configured in the main content zone.
    Scenario:
    Search text box passes query to multiple results web parts on a page. Only one results web part is displayed at a time (active tab). The refiner for the active tab shows and displays its refiners in the navigation panel.
    There are multiple refinement web parts in the navigation panel associated with each core results web part in the main content zone. These refiner web parts are configured with custom refiners.
    the results page displays just one results web part at a time via tabbed interface.
    I am trying to figure out how to make the refiner web parts show and hide depending on which tab is selected.
    Any help pointing to someone thats already attempted this would be appreciated!

    Hi,
    For your issue, you can consider using SharePoint Search Navigation which can achieve a similar feature but not on the same page.
    Search Navigation allows users to move quickly between search experiences listed in the Navigation. Navigation is displayed in the Quick Launch control on search pages, and can also be shown as a drop-down menu from the search box.
    For more information, you can refer to the blog:

  • How do I add a search web part to search ONLY a subsite?

    I'm trying to add a search web part into a subsite that will search ONLY that specific subsite for documents. Not the entire site collection or anything else.   Everything I've looked at doesn't address this specifically.  I want a user
    to be able to type in a word like "SharePoint"  and all it displays is the results for any document in that subsite that has "SharePoint" in the title of the document.   I'm assuming that it's not very convoluted to do.

    You can use site "search settings" and "search scope" to achieve this , you can use any of these method -
    Configure Site settings -> Search settings to default to the contexual scope. This will pass current site  url to search results page to filter current site result only.
    Use refinement web part on the search results page to filter results from a specific sub-site.
    Create a search scope for the subsite , some example here for Sp2010 and 2013-

  • Allow group to view a list view web part but not the original list?

    I have a list that contains a lot of details about current active projects our team is working on. I created a public list view that presents this list in a concise format for external viewers to see and have it on a separate page in a web part; however,
    we need to keep the original list (and all the extra data private).
    How can I keep the original list restricted, but allow permissions to the data that is in that public list view?
    I have already set up the page permissions and they are able to see the page, but the list has no data and displays a message that says "There are no items to show in this view of the "Projects" list.".

    There's no way to do this that I'm aware of without some kind of custom programming.  You could easily create a custom web part that runs with elevated permissions to get the data and display it in a read only fashion.  But to display data in
    any kind of out of the box web part users need permissions to see the data.

  • List View Web Part - Default Chrome Setting

    In our environment, the "Default" chrome setting does not display the title or the border on our list view pages. We have tried Oslo and Seattle master pages and neither displays this to the end user. We do see the title in Edit mode, but
    not once the page is saved. If we switch it to Title Only, it does display.
    Is this the correct behavior? If so, is there an easy way to change the chrome setting to "Title Only" for the list view web parts in one particular web application when a view is created?

    That is the default behavior.  normally, the listview web part is on a page where the title of the library is displayed on the page, which would make it redundant to display it in the web part only.  I don't know any way to change this behavior
    by default when creating a new view.

  • How to display the field name in the tabulated view for a content query web part

    I have added a content query web part changed the web part file to include custom columns imported and reffered itemstyle.xsl
    to include the tabulated view for the content query.
    However the way it is displayed is such that only the content is displayed.
    As i am using a tabular view wto display the data, i want to display their field names as well.

    Hi  ,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you need to display the field in the tabulated view for a content query web part.
    For your issue, please refer to the code as below:
    <xsl:template name="VendorCustomStyle" match="Row[@Style='VendorCustomStyle']" mode="itemstyle">
    <html>
    <table width="100%">
    <xsl:if test="count(preceding-sibling::*)=0">

    <td width="8%" valign="top"><div class="item"><b>Vendor ID</b></div></td>
    <td width="12%" valign="top"><div class="item"><b>Vendor Name</b></div></td>
    <td width="50%" valign="top"><div class="item"><b>Vendor Description</b></div></td>
    <td width="10%" valign="top"><div class="item"><b>Vendor Country</b></div></td>
    <td width="10%" valign="top"><div class="item"><b>Vendor Date</b></div></td>
    <td width="10%" valign="top"><div class="item"><b>Created By</b></div></td>
    </tr>
    </xsl:if>
    <tr>

  • Project Web App (PWA)/Sharepoint 2013: is there any way to display two different views of the Project Center PWA web part to the same user in a site collection?

    i want some of my users to see all the projects in the Project Center at my top-level site, and those same users to see only the projects they own at a subsite level in Project Center. that way they could see an 'all project' view on the homepage and only
    their projects on their dashboard pages (which also have an instance of Project Center web part on them). i have searched and searched but cannot find a solution to this. is there any way to acheive this functionality? thanks in advance for your assistance!

    I have tried this in the past, but was not successful, as far as I can recall. Once you access the project center webpart in one page, the view will be retained regardless where you see it again. (until you apply a different view or clear your browser cache).
    May be an easier solution is to display a 'report' on the home page with ALL projects (much easier to do), and use the Project Center webpart for the My projects view as it is easier to achieve via Project Server Security, than a report.
