Blue screen when starting game

when i start a game on my macbook pro, it shows a blue screen for like a second or sometimes 2 seconds and the game starts. is there anything wrong or is it just normal?

MBP 13" or MBP 15" ?
If 15" try the following:
Connect the power-cable and Disable Automatic Graphic Switching http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4110
Start the game.
Does the blue screen come up or not ?
If not, then it is very likely that the switching of the Graphics Chip is causing the blue screen.

  • Blue screens when playing games

    hello people
I bought not long ago the msi  K8T Neo-FIS2R
It worked great and i got good benchmarkresults.
But when i installed battlefield 1942 and played it , it would give me a blue screen wich says:  he would dump his memory.
i installed the latest via drivers and nvidia detonators. (lifeupdate)
now when i play halflife (counterstrike) thers seems to be no problem at all.
i know halflife is a lightweight game and battlefield is not, so more heavier load wil make my windows crash.
Reading almost every thread on this forum i can say i found my solution for the problem.
I read here that you recommend a pcu of at least: 12V > 20 ampere
but mine is only 16 ampere on 12V
    I have 4  case fans> a WD raptor > dvd player, burner . etc. >>>> i think i will buy a new psu.
    now i have another problem.
when i install the newest via drivers and i install the via 2.0/3.0 agp driver > i have this very strange problem.
when i install the nvidia drivers , the installation is ok > i look with the drivers , and there are none installed. > not even nvidia logo in the left corner (next clock)
    >> what driver i want to install, it doesnt mather. >windows wont use it.
when i install the via drivers without de agp driver>>> i do not have any problems.
    any suggestions?
(ps sorry for grammar mistakes > i am dutch

    hello people
    (geertje > dark half)
now i've installed windows xp 64
after some driver problems i've managed to create a very solid and stable system.
AND when i install the via 4-1 drivers from via my problems seems to be solved.
NOW after the install of the agp driver > i do not have any problems installing the nvidia graphic drivers.
    strange isn't it.
in win xp (32 bit) i cannot install the latest via AGP 2.0/3.0 driver.
but with windows xp 64 i can without problems.
there are no blue screens anymore.
tyresmoke: you have advised me to buy a better psu. (i didnt buy one yet).
But the problem lies with the agp driver from via.
when i install this one and reboot> it always gives a blue screen> without the via driver > no blue screens   (only blue screen with battlefield 1942 or vietnam)
there is something with my agp slot or hypertransport??
    anyone suggestions?
ps . > ive tried mem test 86 for 16 hours and found NO PROBLEMS
ive run prin 95 and toast for 12 hours> no problems

  • MacBook Pro keeps hanging at blue screen when starting up. How do I get around this?

My Macbook has been working just fine for a while, but recently today, it just started crashing on me a lot. This is NOT a kernel panic, but the screen suddenly goes blue and hangs. Then I am forced to restart it.
When I restart it normally, it stops going on the gray screen. I try Safe Mode, but it then suddenly goes to said blue screen again.
I can't even get back onto my computer. How do I solve this issue?

Bump. Really need help on this.

  • MacBook stuck on blue screen when starting up?

So I started my MacBook the other day (running Tiger) and it was stuck on the blue screen (with the apple logo) for a long time. I figured it was just slow and left the room. Came back about 15 minutes and it was still stuck. Went to the following site:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1411#symp1
and tried starting in solo mode, etc and made it all the way down the list till it said try Disk Utility (not exact name I don't think) so I put in the Install disk that came with it and attempted to repair it. It said it was unable to repair due to a node error or something along the lines.... I gave up and am reinstalling OS X (Erase and start again is what I did which is okay as I have no personal files on that computer, I keep them al on my iMac and backed up on my Time Capsule) not to go off on some rant but my question is will the computer fix whatever a node is by completely erasing the hard drive and starting over? It's only at 22% complete so I'm not sure yet. I consider myself fairly computer competent but can someone explain what a node is and how it got messed up?

Yes and erase and install will fix ANY type of software issue you are having. A node is something used to build data structures, if there is an error or one is corrupted it will affect the whole data structure, but no worries, the E&I will fix this issue.

  • Blue Screen when starting up

I am unable to startup...it either freezes with the gray loading spinning wheel or goes all blue and does not let me continue. I haven't been able to start up in safe mode, all it does when i try is take longer before it freezes. furthermore, I am unable to boot from the install disk 1. what can i do?! i looked at all of the other posts and most of them i didn't understand, please help me out!

    Hllo jcosmide:
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
Have you made either hardware or software changes recently?
I assume you tried to start from your install DVD by restarting while holding the "C" key down?
If you are unable to start from the DVD, you will need to take your computer to an Apple store or to an Apple certified technician for diagnosis.

  • Blue Screen when starting up Command & Conquer 3

It was working fine yesterday, but now when I start the game it bluescreens immediately.
    No idea why.

    Hi again:
As I have gotten older, I have learned patience!
Look at this article and see if it will allow you to open the CD tray:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=51008
The E-mail should have nothing to do with the CD tray.
By the way, your profile may be wrong - it shows you are running OS X 10.1.x????

  • On start up sometimes I get a blue screen and start up hang there

On start up I sometimes get a blue screen and it hangs there the only way to get out of this is to turn the iMac off at the back then when you turn it back on the desk top appears without going through the startup screens. Even had the blue screen when starting in safe mode.

Then run Apple Hardware Test in Extended Mode, it's possible you have a hardware issue. If you still can't locate the issue the next step is taking the machine in for a professional diagnosis at your local Apple Store or AASP.

  • Blue error screen when starting up HP G60-230US

Recently, my laptop gave me an error blue screen when trying to start up.  It said something along the lines of "There was an error and the computer was stopped from starting to prevent damage."  After doing some research, I thought the problem was my hard drive.
I installed a replacement and installed Windows XP.  It seemed to install as it should, but again as the computer was trying to load windows, I got the blue screen again. A friend thought maybe my fan wasn't working and the computer was overheating as a result.  After checking, the fan seems to be working properly.
    Any ideas or suggestions?  Thanks.

o right.  i was confusing this computer with another one i have by thinking it used xp.  i can't seem to find the vista disc (if the computer actually came with one).  is vista the only version of windows that would work on the computer?  if i can, i'd like to install either xp or 7.

  • IMac will only safe boot (blue screen when not safe booting).

A buddy asked me to help with his Intel based iMac. It was giving a blue screen when trying to boot up (and an odd cursor along with the blue screen). The cursor moves around the blue screen but looks like two cursors. One cursor is a normal arrow pointer, the second is a rectangle about .25 inch wide and 1 inch tall made up of about 10 horizontal lines.
I'm very familiar with Macs and OS X and was sure it was probably a messed up preference file (most likely login preference). It wasn't.
    Here's the odd circumstances:
I have an intel macbook that if I use firewire target disk mode I can boot just fine off his iMac.
His computer will not boot off my Macbook that is in firewire target disk mode.
We cloned his hard drive to an external firewire hard drive (using Carbon Copy Cloner), my Macbook boots off it just fine, his iMac will not.
He's been wanting to go to Leopard so we upgraded his computer (did basic upgrade), but it still blue screened (with odd cursor).
Then we did an erase and install. Still no difference in behavior.
I would almost be convinced that it's a hardware failure, but it will safe boot every time.
Here's what happened when it died. His son was playing a Star Wars game (I'm not sure which one). The kid was in the middle of the game and paused it when it was time for dinner. When the kid went back to play, the computer was frozen. They tried everything to unfreeze it and ended up powering it down. Started the blue screen ever since.
He's going to contact Apple (it's barely still under it's warranty) but I was hoping someone here has another idea what it could be.

I found this topic while trying to find an answer to my problem. It seems we have a similar thing going on with our imacs (although mine is a much older crt imac). I'll copy and paste my original post from the imac board :
    Hi
I received a free imac snow (G3 500mhz) from someone. He told me it was broke, and someone told him the logic board needed to be replaced.
I brought it home and tried to start it up. It gave the '?' folder icon. I started up from an OS 9.1 cd - Success! Except there was no HD. I opened it up and discovered that the HD wasn't connect to the ATA cable. I was able to start up to a previously installed Tiger. Except once it booted it would quickly freeze - the mouse pointer would turn into a scrambled beach ball (very strange) and wouldn't move.
I did some research and found about the potential problem with OS X and the imac's firmware. I restarted from the 9.1 CD and installed that OS. Everything seemed fine and was running ok (from my limited time on it). I then DL'd the latest firmware for the imac (4.1.9.) and tried to run it. Except the message came up that the latest firmware had already been installed. So i guess thats a good thing. I don't have to worry about firmware being a problem.
So i did a zero out wipe on the HD and installed tiger from the dvd. But on the first restart after installation (where i should go to the set up assistant) I get the scrambled beach ball and it freezes.
I thought perhaps the HD is faulty and ran disk utility on it - it came back as fine. I doubled checked to make sure it was set to 'master'. it sure was. I decided to swap out the HD anyways since i can't see what else could be the problem and put in a different 30gb IDE drive. I once again zeroed out the drive and did a fresh install of tiger. On restart i get the same scrambled beach ball and the freeze.
I guess i should describe the scrambled beach ball. It's seems like the beach ball icon, except the bits that make it up are out of order and glitched out.. perhaps a video problem?
Could this really be a logic board problem? It was working in OS 9.1 fine. It starts up from system CDs and DVDs fine. Wouldn't a logic board exhibit the same problems on those systems?
    Anyone have any idea?
Update - starting in Safe mode (restart with shift held down) works, and i was able to update to the latest version of Tiger, but once i restart with the full system i get the same problem.
This seems to me that it ISN'T a logic board problem, but more of a system software problem. Now my question is how do i isolate and fix the problem in Tiger?
I guess i'll post this question in the Tiger forum, but if anyone has any ideas please let me know.
    Thanks

  • Windows Blue Screen - when trying to re-sync an IPOD after doing 5 R's

My windows based Itunes failed to recognize my ipod, so I trouble shooted and finally ended up doing the 5 R's.
This resulted in a "Blank Ipod" (after restore).
I was able to successfully get Itunes to recognize my ipod after the restore. That is when a "major problem" occurred.
When my 37 gigs of MP3s on my PC attempt to automatically update onto my "blank ipod", my system crashes giving me the dreaded windows BLUE SCREEN! The error messgae indicates that a physical memory dump occurred and the system shuts down.
I figure it has something to do with all of those gigs trying to update onto the ipod. SO, I start to manually transfer (drag and drop) about 100 mp3s at a time onto the ipod within itunes. It still crashed after the 3rd batch of 100 mp3s.
Has anyone experienced this? Does it have anything to do with Mirosoft's newest IE vunerability? I use Firefox usually, but sometimes HAVE to use IE. What can I do?
    This really *****.
    thanks for your help.
    Zeppy
    Dell Dimension Windows XP

    hi zeppy!
hmmmmmm. a 0x7E? that's not the most commonly reported BSOD code here.
but the MS KB seemed to have at least one clue for us.
    (1) sometimes people can get blue screens when they plug in an ipod if their FireWire, USB, or dock has gone bad. i see from that STOP message resource that the 0x7E can be associated with dodgy USB.
by way of tracking down that possibility, do you still get the BSOD if you connect to a different port? (or, if you've got a dock, connect directly to a port instead?)
    (2) on general principles, we'd better check for malware. download fresh definitions and run vigorous virus and spyware scans. if your security software providers offer online scans, run those as well. (they can sometimes pick up an infection in cases where the security software on the PC has been compromised.)
    (3) especially if you've recently installed any new hardware on your PC, head into Device Manager to check to see if there's any alert/warning messages showing up next to any of your devices. if you see any, what do they say?
    (4) let's also let's also capture a minidump of the crash and send it to the Discussions Hosts, so they can throw it over the fence for the Apple engineers to analyze.
To set up your machine to capture a minidump, right click on "My Computer", select "Properties", select the "Advanced" tab, select the "Startup and Recovery" Settings button, select "small memory dump" from the popup. When it crashes, look for the MiniDump file. It's usually in the folder "C:\WINDOWS\Minidump" and is called something like Mini<number>-<number>.dmp.
And then send it to a Discussions Host. It doesn't hurt to put the URL to this discussion thread, so that whoever gets it has some context. Also give as much information about the context of the crash (in the email) as you can.
    love, b

  • Blue screen when attempting to use the dedicated video card

I keep getting a blue screen when attempting to use the dedicated video card.
I managed to install the AMD driver for it but without the other components like the Catalyst Control Center as it blue screened on startup when attempting to load the Catalyst Control Center.
The OS loads fine. Any applications that don't use the dedicated video card runs fine. All other drivers install fine as well.
Applications like games and Photoshop that switch to the dedicated video card on startup automatically crashes, the OS freezes then a blue screen appears.
What could be causing the problem? This problem just recently appeared. Two weeks ago.

    boogs wrote:
I tried installing the drivers for my laptop from HP's support site. Still the same result.
This problem only appeared a few weeks ago. Before that, the same drivers from the HP site installed and functioned normally.
Could this be a problem with the graphics card itself?
Note sure but if we can know the system P/N others can look to see what drivers it has for the graphics to know what is there.

  • Blue Screen when burning a DVD

When I try to burn a DVD the systems crash with a blue screen when "compiling media" is at 95%. Windows returns a post error "PX Engine has stopped working properly". I have followed all steps in both pages http://forums.adobe.com/thread/415318?tstart=30 and http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-elements/kb/troubleshoot-system-errors-freezes-burning.htm l. The PX Engine is installed by Premiere and I also tried to install an update of PX Engine as instructed by Microsoft Help. Any help? I have a Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit SP1 on Dell XPS (Intel i7, 8 GB RAM, 250+ GB free hd space).

A BSOD is a very serious matter. It is most often caused by hardware, or low-leve drivers interfacing with the OS. This ARTICLE goes into much more detail. It also provides links to tools, that might be very helpful.
    I would start looking for:
Heat (DVD burning, like Rendering and Export, is very intensive)
RAM (DVD burning might well be using RAM that sits unused by most other operations)
PSU (DVD burning requires more power, as the HDD's and multi-drive are all very active)
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • MacBook Display flashes white, red, blue, grey when starting up.

This problem just started yesterday when I turned on my Mac. It made the apple sound and then it went to a blue screen then started flashing white, red, blue, grey and then a few grey patterns. It went away last night when I left it on for about 5 minutes and when I restarted it there was no problem. However when I turned it on this morning it had happened again. I have no idea what the problem could be. Anyone had this problem before or have any advice? The Mac is 1.5 years old.

Try resetting the SMC - might help, cannot hurt.

  • Blue Screen while starting windows

    Hi,
My laptop shows a blue screen when it is started and an error appears 0x0000007b (0xF7A19528, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). The windows do not boot, and neither can I get into the system through other means.
What could be the cause of the same, and how to overcome this problem? Please help.
    TIA

Possible operating system corruption. Try performing system recovery using the recovery discs that came with the computer. If the same problem will occur, it's a possible HDD problem.
