Bluetooth not functioning

Using iPhone 3GS. Mac OS10.6.7.
Cannot get the phone and the MAC to pair. The MAC says the device (phone) does not have the necessary services.
Anyone got any ideas?

OK - it's not just the MAC it doesn't connect to. The phone will not connect to any other bluetooth enabled device.
My reasons for wanting it to are simple:
1. Bluetooth is a convenient method of file transfer.
2. It says it does it, so why doesn't it?!
This is not a feature of iphone.  never has been.
You can use bluetooth for handsfree telephone devices/headsets,  stereo speakers/headsets, some peer-to-peer apps from the app store, and tethering where provided by the carrier.
Other than this you cannot connect to your computer or another phone or device.

  • T430 Bluetooth not functioning well

I had a T430 for half year, recently the bluetooth not functioning well.
when I try to open a connected device(mobile phone), the device control window will show up for just 2 second, then turn off. If i keep trying for a couple times, and error message will show up: "This operation failed to initialize......."
I had been using the WII remote for a while before this happened. It still can connect new device correctly.
I have try uninstall the driver,
For that 2 second I can see the control window has correct information for the mobile phone,
Has anyone had the similar issue?

yes i had something similar happen once. I tried to uninstall the bluetooth driver and reinstall the latest version of the bluetooth driver. That worked for a while, then it failed again. In the end i had to reinstall the OS from scratch, which solved the issue (i also had some other driver issues, and decided that reinstall the OS was the fastest way to resolve it).

  • Mountain Lion Bluetooth Not Functioning Properly

I am trying to use this softwareto turn the surface that I am projecting the MacBook Pro on into an ActivBoard/Smart Board. It was working just fine in Mountain Lion (after a Google search as it was not compatible to Mountain Lion but I found a work around) but now after installing an system update, it won't connect to my wiimote. I tried adding a new device and the Bluetooth Setup Assistant would not respond for a few seconds and then responded again and it found no Bluetooth devices. It wouldn't find my phone (which was in discoverable mode) or any other computers. Also, the Bluetooth panel in System Preferences was acting a little buggy. I couldn't remove any devices and it would become unresponsive for a few seconds if I toggled Bluetooth off and then back on. Also If I go to Apple Menu>About This Mac>More Info>System Report>Hardware>Bluetooth I see "There was an error while gathering this information." The Bluetooth menu seems normal but I am thinking that there are some issues with Bluetooth. Any Ideas?

Maybe this will help. If you monitor the "More Like This" box, other solved threads appear. Opening them usually displays other threads.

  • HT2584 why isn't my mac pro work properly as it is new. the connection for the bluetooth is totally out and its not functioning at all. kindly please assist me on this

THE BLUETOOTH CONNECTION IS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY AND IT BEING DIFFICULT TO DOWNLOAD THE UPDATES

The standard first attempt at "fixing" BT problems is to do a smc and pram reset (try these first).  But for mac pro's, if you are using a magic mouse say, about 3 or more feet, from the mac pro, you are most likely in for some continued aggravation.  That's because the BT antenna is hidden in the back of the mac pro (faraday cage) and the magic mouse BT, for lack of better words, $ucks.
Here's a thread on this subject:
Poor Bluetooth reception and jerky mouse
Basically it comes down to wiring your own external antenna in place of the internal one already there or using a BT USB dongle.  I use a dongle myself on my 2010 mac pro.

  • Keys not functioning on bluetooth keyboard

I have replaced the battery on my bluetooth mouse and now my bluetooth small keyboard is not functioning fully.
The middle row of keys and ones to the left and right are not responding. The shift lock light doesn't come on either.
I've replaced the batteries in the keyboard too, just in case, although the indications were that the battery life was OK. I get the green light when turning it on but still no function on some of the keys.
Has changing the battery in my mouse affected my keyboard? Is it something to do with Universal Access? Mouse Keys are off.
    Any help gratefully received. Thanks.

It's the one that came with my imac which was purchased 4 months ago. Everything was working fine then I packed it all up to go home for Christmas two weeks ago. Set it up at home and had these issues with both mouse and keyboard when I turned it on. So changed battery in mouse and that's OK but no joy with the keyboard.

  • Bluetooth Not Available 10.7.2 2011 Intel iMac

    Hi Guys,
I need a little advice whether I have a software issue or Hardware issue with my (May 2011) intel iMac (27")
When I got the new iMac I migrated from old iMac with Snow Leopard and had no bluetooth issues at all.
I upgraded to Lion in July and Bluetooth was OK, 10.7.1 update seemed ok until 2/3 weeks ago, 10.7.2 has had no fix.
    This is the problem:
I have an Apple BT Keyboard, BT Magic Mouse & BT Magic Trackpad connected... all was ok untl 2/3 weeks ago.
Currently on the 'top bar' if I click on the BT icon, it says "Bluetooth: Not Available" ...... The BT icon itself has a 'jagged line' through it.
Bluetooth is not shown under System Preferences.. as if it does not appear on my iMac
Also if I check under 'System Information' and click on Bluetooth it says "No Information Found"
I have reset the PRAM and SMC & Verified and repaired HD several times.... all to no avail.
I have favourited the BT devices to the iMac allowed them to wake iMac etc, but does not offer a fix.
Over the last few days it magically comes back on for a while then cuts dead in the middle of 'work'.
What should my next step be?
Thank you very much in advance for any advice offered.
    PS:
I have checked the Console.App and have a Kernel log file with these 'panics', I admit this log is way beyond me but if anyone understands it, I'd be grateful:

Hi elcroz, were you able to fix the issue eventually? Was it a hardware problem? I'm seeing the same behaviour since yesterday (also on a mid 2011 iMac).
When I woke the iMac from sleep yesterday Bluetooth was "gone" - no connection to mouse and keyboard and the module had disappeared from System Preferences. I rebooted and the Mac booted itself into safe mode. I did a PRAM reset and that instantly solved the issue. But today I saw the exact same thing again, only that the Mac wouldn't even respond to my old USB mouse when I connected it. After a hard shutdown and restart everything seems fine… Bluetooth available and functioning. What the **** is going on here?
I just performed the Apple Hardware test and no problems were found.
I'm seeing some of the same errors in console you pasted, but only one line of each after a restart.
Strangely my keyboard was mentioned in the console logs and my mouse wasn't - so I will keep using a USB keyboard for now to see how it goes.
Anyway, I would really appreciate any advice - let me know how it turned out for you, if you get the chance. I don't want to bring the Mac to an ASP if it's not really necessary, the nearest one is more than an hour away from where I am….
    Cheers

  • Firewire does not function after uninstalling macfuse and an out of date version of NTFS32 and then installed latest version of Tuxera NTFS for Mac.

I purchased a 3TB HDD (WD USB 3.0 $100) to replace the 2TB Seagate for a new Time Machine HDD. The 2B was full and backups were deleting older files. The 3TB was formatted NTFS and I want to "recover" the included SW before I reformatted the HDD for the iMac. I discovered that MacFuse was out of date and unsupported and my NTFS-32 was also out of date so I uninstalled both and then installed the most recent version of Tuxera NTFS for Mac. I rebooted and discovered that the FW800 port was unresponsive. Below is the EtreCheck report:
    Problem description:

The wi-fi button on my iPad 2 is not functioning.  I have tried resetting the network, worked for 5 minutes. Am not able to connect to internet to reset to factory.  What else can I do?

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at

    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • Mac Pro USB ports and bluetooth not working

I have a Mac Pro (early 2008) Quad-Core Intel Xeon, 2.8 GHz, 4GB ram, Airport card, Magic Mouse. Suddenly the keyboard and wired/bluetooth Mouse are unavailable, so it is not possible to control the computer. The only way I can use it is by using Screen Sharing from my MacBook Pro - which is obviously pretty useless except for diagnostics! All the USB ports (front and back, as well as those on the Cinema Display - when connected) are dead. System profiler shows no problem with them, but also shows nothing connected. Bluetooth in menu bar shows as "Bluetooth: not available", and in system profiler shows as "No information found".
I've tried all the usual remedies. Powering off overnight with power cord disconnected, all peripherals disconnected, then booting up again. Holding in the power button for ten seconds when the power cord is disconnected. Obviously I can't reset the pRAM (because the keyboard is not recognised, even before the OS loads). The first couple of times I tried this process, it did bring back the USB ports, even the bluetooth became temporarily available, but soon disappeared again. USB ports died next time I rebooted.
However, in the last couple of days, the process produces no results. No matter how long I leave it disconnected, USB ports are not working and bluetooth is just not there...
I've checked for other threads on this topic, but most other people seem to have issues with either front or back USB ports, or even just one or more individual ports. My problems have only been with all ports or none.
Does anyone have any suggestions to get my MacPro up and running again properly?

Just waking this thread up again in case anyone has had any other ideas.
Since last posting, usb became functional again, (came back on a couple of hours after a restart) and as long as I kept the machine alive, usb would stay alive. Bluetooth came back on briefly, but for most of the time was unavailable. System profiler shows no problems and Console does not report any usb related errors as far as I can see.
After a recent restart, usb disappeared again, and despite numerous restarts and being left on for a couple of days (and subsequently left off for several days) it has not come back. When usb is not working, examining the system profiler (through screen sharing from my macbook) usb shows no errors, but also shows no connected devices. I can charge my ipod nano with any of the usb ports (front or back), so power does not seem to be the issue.
I can't reset pRAM (because the keyboard is not available at boot), but have reset SMC numerous times. Have tried other keyboards, and mice. No joy.
I seem to have run out of ideas. Any suggestions?
