Blurry image in Android front camera

Hey All,
I've been beating myself with this for a while, I need some help.
I am using the device's front camera. In iOS it's working great. In Android - I get this fuzzy image that shows me the front camera 3 times with black and white stripes (See image).
Here is my camera / video display related code:
<s:VideoDisplay id="vid" x="10" y="15"/>
private function getFrontCamera():Camera
   if (Camera.isSupported == false)
                                                  return null;
                                        var numCameras:int = Camera.names.length;
                                        if (numCameras == 0)
                                                  return null;
                                        if (numCameras == 1)
                                                  return Camera.getCamera("0");
                                        if (numCameras == 2)
                                                  return Camera.getCamera("1");
                                        return Camera.getCamera();
var LocalVideo:Video = new Video(vid.width, vid.height);
LocalVideo.attachCamera(cam);
vid.addChild(LocalVideo);
Note: This does not happen in Motorola for example, on other Andoird machines - it does.

I ran into this problem after android update on some samsung devices.  I found that setting gpu render mode to Direct in the application.xml file clears it up, hope it does for you.

  • How do I remove the "mirror" image on the front camera?

    After I take photos on the front camera to say a "selfie" the image is then flipped and saved. I research online and people say it's what the camera sees (like looking into a mirror) and that's how we really look in real life but I can prove this to not be true!! Here is why, I have a beauty mark on my face on the left side and when I take a selfie my iPhone saves it to show it on the right!! And when I look into an actual mirror it's obviously on left where it should be not on the right!! IS THERE a way to remove this on the new iPhone?!? All apple product seem to do this!! iPhone, iPads even my Mac! But this not true on regular cameras. HELPPP this issue is making me not get another iPhone for I travel for a living and take tons of pics.

    iPhone 5 plain.  iOS 7.1.2.  Virgin Mobile.  Had it about a month.
    I noticed that all of the selfies I had taken with Instagram were reversed.  This was odd to realize; I have had the phone for a month, and when I see a reversed selfie it looks normal to me ... I part my hair on the left, and I didn't notice that all of my avatars for things had my hair parted on the wrong side.  I was reviewing some Facebook photos and it was very obvious that some of my pics have my hair parted on the wrong side.  It was kind of weird figuring out that the ones that looked right were the wrong ones...
    So I played around a bit.  With the built in camera app, when I am framing a selfie, it sure would be awkward to try to center yourself in the picture if the image wasn't reversed.  I've had devices with front-facing cameras where you could un-reverse the image, and it is quite disorienting to try to center yourself.  So I get WHY the image is reversed (one of the reasons at least).  I noticed too that when I snap the selfie with the built-in camera app, that the picture un-mirrors as it takes.  There is a brief animation as the image flips side-to-side.
    For me and my phone/situation, it is when I use Instagram to take pictures from the front-facing camera.  Instagram just seems to grab the actual image from the screen, and not do the un-mirroring that the built in photo app uses.  So, my solution is to not use the Instagram app to snap the actual selfie, but to use the built in phone app to take it, then afterwards I open the photo in instagram and do my tweaking.  Just slightly less than elegant for now, I am hoping that a future Instagram update will give you control on whether to un-mirror the front-facing camera.  But I see this as my phone working correctly, and the app itself being the thing that is buggy.  In my case.

  • Air 3.0 Android Front Cam upside-down

    Dear Adobe Community,
    I am working on an app where I grab the video from an android (2.3.3) device, and stream it to a recording video server. My app is written in AS3 with Flash Pro CS5.5, so I first publish that, then use the adt command line to compile using the Air 3.0rc SDK for a runtime bundled version. The rear camera works perfectly fine, meaning, when I hold the phone in landscape mode, video displayed in the video object is right side up, and when I hold the phone in portrait mode, the video on screen also turns, also right side up. When I switch to the front cam, however, the video displays fine on screen in landscape mode (right side up), but when I hold the phone in portrait mode, the video turns upside down. I tried flipping the video object vertically, which fixes the 'right side up' issue for the front cam in portrait mode, but all other positions turn upside down. Is anyone else experiencing a similar issue? I am using the 3.0 SDK release candidate version to compile.
    p.s. I have auto-rotate turned off, and position in portrait mode when I compile the apk. I tried swiching to landscape mode, but same result.
    Any help or hints are greatly appreciated.
    thank you,
    Alex

    Hi bjsr12345,
    That was quite a long time back. Unfortunately, even today, if your target platform is below ICS (Android 4), that rear camera orientation issue is still present. You can adjust so that you flip the video object within your app if it's upside down (say, when you are recording a video and allowing the user to change between front and rear cams mid-stream), but there is no way to change the orientation of the video itself, sans adding some lines of code in a native Android code itself, not through Air. Hope this helps.

  • IPad Front Cam Issue?

    Preparing to Facetime on my ipad 2; I first opened my front facing camera and created a clear; well lit picture of myself. I then went into Facetime; dialed a friend; and still using my front facing camera (but now through Facetime) in the same lighting conditions from 30 seconds ago; now my moving image was of lower quality and even less well lit. Had to redial the same person with my iphone for a better and clearer image. What gives; I got a great image in my pads front facing cam ...... and am I not using that same camera when I FaceTime????

    To answer my own question:
    Just discovered that the poor quality image from the front cam is an auto lighting issue in part; one tip is:
    Put your hand over the ipads front camera for a second, to lighten the image; its an auto lighting issue, this should improve the brightness;
    While in the regular cam; just touch the screen to change areas of brightness

  • No "image size" option from pictures taken with front camera?

    When e-mailing a picture taken with the rear camera, I am prompted to choose an "image size." However, this option does not come up for any photo taken with the front camera.
    Is this a bug or how it is supposed to function, or am I doing something wrong?
    "Prompt for email image resize" is enabled in Hub and under Display and Actions for every e-mail account. I have 10.3.1.841 on the Classic.

    I understand what you are trying to say, however I'm not sure you understand what others have been trying to tell you.
    Yes, the iPhone comes with a camera, and it comes with a standard camera application. This is a resident Apple application. You downloaded a new camera "application", not a new camera. This is a 3rd party application that uses the installed camera to operate. When trying to use Facebook, another 3rd party application, and you want to take a picture, it uses the Apple camera interface, because it cannot interact with another 3rd party application. In other words, as many have said, two third party applications cannot run together, or interact together, i.e. Facebook and your camera application.
    Does that make sense now? While you can use the downloaded application to take pictures versus the Apple camera application, you cannot change the API for another application to use another 3rd party application for a task. I hopw this explanation works for you.

  • My front camera lend wont open it just stays blurry and one know how to fix this? Restore didnt help tried it already

    front camera wont open it stays blurry its an ipod touch 5g

    Hey Techmeout, If a restore to new did not solve, most likely dealing with a hardware issue. Contact your Apple store or the Apple Genius Bar, set up an appointment and have your iPod evaluated for possible hardware issue. Then go from there.  Good luck. Cheers.

  • One day it just stopped focusing and the pictures are blurry.  If I switch it to the front camera it works well and looks like it should but when I turn it back it goes back to being out of focus and I can't figure out how to fix it?

    i installed ios 7.after  that my primary cam, one day it just stopped focusing and the pictures are blurry.  If I switch it to the front camera it works well and looks like it should but when I turn it back it goes back to being out of focus and I can't figure out how to fix it?

    This advice will sound like a joke or prank, but believe me it worked on my iPhone 5 and my daughter's.  The lens mechanism got stock on each of our iPhones.  We found a post on these message boards that said to hold the iPhone about 6 inches above a table or counter top and drop it so that it lands flat on it's back.  Now try the camera ...Fixed!  It has been more than six months now and neither of our iPhones have ever experienced the problem again.

  • Ipad 2 front camera has a blurry black line down the middle

    Evening,
    My Ipad 2 front camera has a blurry black line down the middle, tried resetting but still there. back camera is fine.
    Any ideas ???

    Hello AndyPharris,
    It sounds like you're seeing an unexpected black line when you take photos with your rear camera. I would next backup the iPad to your iTunes library:
    iOS: How to back up and restore your content

    And restore it from your backup with this article as a new device to test the issue:
    Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings

    If it works, restore from your backup and verify it still works. If the issue persists when you restore as new, I would seek service for your device with this page:

  • T410 camera blurry image

    Hi!
    I am running a T410 with Linux. The camera is detected but the image is out of focus. I thought it may be a Linux driver problem, so I installed Windows 7 in VirtualBox, using USB-pass-through to use the Windows driver for the camera. I was surprised that the image was exactly the same: out of focus.
    Note: I have tried various light conditions, distances, etc. The images below are a comparison at the same distance/light of the internal camera, with an external one:
    Image with internal camera:
    Link to picture
    Using an external USB camera:

    Anyone has seen this problem?
    I know there is an utility called ThinkVantage Communication Utility. Which I can't run on Linux or virtualized. However, as far as I know it has basic image controls (which also work on Linux), but nothing related to focus (and the focus is also afaik fixed).
    I am thinking this is faulty hardware. I am trying to avoid wiping my system just to restore the factory image just to watch the same blurry image, specially after the hundred of issues I have found with the camera on the web.

    Man, you made me almost scratch the case with a knife looking for a plastic strip. There is none. :-)
    Accidentally, while trying to move the "strip" I could not see, I noticed the image quality got fixed (on Linux), but it lasted only while I had my fingers there. Gotcha. If I press the area near the lens against the screen, it gets fixed.
    Without pressing image
    Pressing the plastic image
    So the problem is hardware. Shame on Lenovo, I was expecting a more robust construction. At least I don't see how this could have hapenned on my old T20's. Now looking in detail, loos like the screen frame is not well attached to the rest.
    I will contact a service provider :-(

    I'm using iphone 4s, whenever i take a photo using front camera mirror view of the image is NOT saved. i.e, left becomes right & vice versa. To elaborate if you take a photo with your left hand index finger on your left chin it shows up as though i'm holding my right hand index finger on my right chin. This was not the case initially, i suspect this happened after photoshop app. was installled. Can someone assist?

    Ok!! After checking couple of my friends phone i realise this is BY design!!.. i still don't understand the logic behind this though.Nevertheless this ain't a bug!!!

  • Lenovo K3 note front camera mirror images.

    I have just been delivered a Lenovo K3 Note. The phone is really good value for money. Almost all functions are perfect for my money invested. However I am annoyed that despite such a nice front camera, the captured images are delivered as mirror images. i.e things on the left appear to be on the right after the image is clicked. Due to this if there is any lettering on the image it appears reverse. This is so irritating. Is there any setting or feature by which I can correct this or is it a problem in my handset. Has anyone else faced this issue. Otherwise please issue a upgrade or patch via OTA that set right this problem.

    I am also facing the same problem

  • Detect if front camera in MediaPromise

    I am using MediaPromise to get an image from an Android phone's native camera interface.
    I am rotating the retrieved image 90 degrees to account for front camera.
    The question is: How to detect if the camera used is from the front or back?
    If I can detect it is front, I will rotate the image.
    I tried a if(height>width)   but regardless of which camera they are all landscape.

    I don't see anything in the exif data that distinguishes between the cameras (on my phone), so I don't think there is way to know which camera was used.
