Boolean operations on paths al la AI Pathfinder toolset

New to flash but wanted to tween some animation paths so thought I'd try it out. Is there an equivilent set of operations to AI's Pathfinder palette. I'm after the Subtract Front Object from Back Object function on paths? (Obviously) I can do in AI and bring into Flash but easier to stay in one app.

Thank you, your answer was helpful. The problem was occuring before I entered the the code you referred to. But your response made me realize that the problem did, indeed, have to do with code that was running during the upload. I isolated the problem to the progress bar logic, which I suspect is not a coding error, but just too many cycles for the player to put up with during a long upload.  I am now searching for another method of displaying upload status without a tight piece of code that loops a lot.
Thank you again kglad!

  • Aggregation Befre Calculation with Boolean Operator (BW3.5)

    Dear All,
      Here I am trying to create a 'Calculated Key Figure' with some logical expression to verify the value of other columns(ie: stock value = 0, market value = 0...etc) and I would like to calculate the result 'Before Aggregation'; Somehow, the calculated key figure with Boolean Operator can not be chosen as 'Before Aggregation'. I tried to create 2nd CKF to include the 1st CKF so that I am able to select the 2nd CKF as 'Before Aggregation', but the result just dont seem to be right.
      Any Idea to do this kinda calculation? Thanks a lot.

    Instead of creating a calculated Key Figure, create a formula in the query and try whether it is giving a desired output??

  • Formula string with boolean operations

    Hello all,
    I created sample logic to do Boolean operations with string.
    Example:
    (True or false) && False = false
    False && True || false = false
    Note: Syntax should not be any error (like wrong brackets/extra and/or.
    Can anyone tell me is these is any way to optimize this code?

    I figure there has to be a way to get to a formula node by way of scripting.  So I started playing around.
    See this.
    Now this is just a VI that is basically operating on itself and shows the classes and properties do exist.
    I think for your situation, you would need to dynamically create a new subVI.  Run scripting code to generate a formula node, the inputs and output node to the formula, controls and indicators to link to those nodes along with the wiring connections.  Then place the formula expression into the formula.  Then dynamically call the VI (may need to save it first) to send it your values and return the output.
    It seems like it would be a lot of work, but certainly doable.

  • Product suggestion: auto mode selection when replacing boolean operator with compound arithmetic operator

    A quick suggestion (I am not sure where to post this).
    Wouldn't it be great if when replacing a boolean operation i.e. AND with its compound arithmetic equivalent (to add and extra input for example), the compound arithmetic could default to the correct mode. (It seems to default to OR)
    I have never learned the arcane boolean symbols for AND and OR etc, I always have to go and double check to mode when dropping it down onto the block diagram.

  • How to make a complex path with circles and pathfinder

    So I keep seeing this method of design on sites like dribbble or behance but I don't know how to do it!
    Here's an example:
    Basically a bunch of circles are used to create this awesome shape and design. I have a general idea on how to use the pathfinder tool and I have used it a lot in the past, but how do you snap circles together with smart guides? It seems that the smart guides only snap based on 90 or 45 angles and don't snap edges of objects together unless there are two anchors.
    Here's an example:
    I want to use the curves from 2 circle shapes to make a complex path. But I can't get the two paths to snap together
    Ultimately to create something like the raindrop image above. I want to use the perfect curves on circles to create more complex shapes but since the paths do not snap together, I'm just eyeballing it to be close enough to do something with the pathfinder tool. I have tried many ways to solve this but I cannot figure anything out.
    Kyle

    Kyle,
    Presuming you wish to move one circle to snap to another circle at a certain predetermined angle, and you have it placed at a distance at that angle you may (Smart Guides are your friends):
    1) Select both circles, and with the Line Segment Tool drag a line from centre to centre (Smart Guides say center when you are at the first one and close enough to the second one);
    2) Select the circle to move with the normal Selection Tool, then hover over the spot where the line crosses it (Smart Guides say intersect), then ClickDrag along the line (Smart Guides say path) until you have dragged it to snap to the other circle (Smart Guides say intersect).
    This works whether the circles are beside each other or one is inside the other.
    When moving vertically or horizontally, there is no need for the line, and you can just ClickDrag by the relevant Anchor Point.

  • How to use boolean operator to get count

    Hi All,
    In my query i need to add a field Count which shows number.
    Meaning,
    Column A   ColumnB ColumnC  Count
    100               50            0            2
    55                60             76         3
    79                0               0           1
    meaning from all three column only two has values then Count should show 2. etc....
    any suggestion how to use boolean expression here ?
    or anyother way to display Count ?
    thanks,
    KS

    Hi thanks for idea.
    boolean didnt work here. the formulau sugested worked...
    But i wrote formula for the Count --> COUNT("overtime") and for the Count property I selected Calculate Result As --> Summation fo Rounded Values
    so the output is as follows:
    i had data for 3 payperiods
    Count  (1st 3 columns)                    overall result(last Column)
    200801     200802     200803
    1                 0             1                         2
    1                1              1                         3
    0                1             0                         1
    Now the out put i wanted is in the last column -Result column.
    I dont want Count column to be display like this. it is showing values instead of total. any this i should change for this?
    thanks,
    KS

  • Boolean operator "OR" / Condition Tags

    Hello,
    can anybody imagine a publishing-surrounding, in which it would be appropriate to use the "OR"-Operator?
    If you can't imagine such a surrounding, please let me know too.
    Best regards,
    Klaus

    Sure. I can come up with several real world examples, here's one. Imagine a cascading level of privilege for published material - Unclassified, Classified, Secret, and Top Secret. I have all of these levels represented in my repository and I use conditional tagging to mark the content appropriately.
    Because the level is cascading, each security level can view its own level and all those below it. For example, if I have Secret clearance, I'm also allowed to view Unclassified and Classified material. So, to publish for Secret-level users, I use a conditional logic of including content that is tagged for Unclassified OR Classified OR Secret.

  • Rounding sharp corners and minimum path size

    I'm in sign business. We use illustrator to prepare files to cut vinyl stickers (foil) on a cutting plotter.
    I suspect there is dedicated sign software that handles the problem below, but i'm stuck with illustrator to do this.
    There are 2 requirements for cutting vinyl:
    1. Corners can not be too sharp, or they will easily come loose.
    A combination of positive and negative offset effects with "round" selected, stacked on top of eachother, does the job.
    The negative offset does remove some parts however.
    2. Minimum area: lines can't bee to small. En general rule of thumb is no to go below 1mm.
    A function would be desired that, let's say, removes parts that are extremely small (for example 1 squared mm). Other small parts should be made somewhat thicker.
    So instead manually checking and preparing every file, i want illustrator to do this for me!
    Using effects, actions, scripts, plugins, whatever.
    See the following image:
    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/8911045/example.png
    (the insert image button doesn't seem to work with me at this moment, i'll try again later)

    No special filter that does all the magic, unfortunately
    It's not that you have to draw every path point-by-point. You can use commands like outline stroke, boolean operations, etc., etc. and get paths not fully optimized, but clean enough for vinyl cutting.
    And it's not that related portions of what you need to do frequently cannot be scripted. It's that scripts are very literal; very explicit. If you expect any kind of one-size-fits-all solution, you have to very specifically nail down the requirements that would work for all situations.
    You would be better off just carefully thinking through the steps that you find yourself doing repeatedly, and then consider the portions of them that can be at least semi-automated by recording a macro (so-called "Actions" in Illustrator).
    Most of the functions you need to automate are commands in the standard interface. That's the domain of macros, not scripts. And macros are much simpler to tweak on-the-fly than scripts.
    For example, although I can and do write my own scripts, I frequently use an Action to create "halos" around individual parts in exploded assembly illustrations that are imported DXFs. It basically :
    Runs the Simplify command
    Sets stroke attributes
    Outlines strokes
    Unions the resulting fills
    Names the selection
    Duplicates
    Releases compound path
    Unions
    Offsets path
    Changes fill to white
    Sends to back
    Groups
    That yields a single offset path around the drawing of the part which creates the "halo" that visually separates it from other parts in the assembly order which it partially overlaps. (Think of a stack of washers, nuts, grommets, seals, etc. closely spaced along a single thrust line.)
    That macro is run with a single click dozens of times in the course of processing a single drawing. The first step (Simplify) often needs different settings for DXFs from different sources. It's a simple thing to do a couple of tests and tweak the parameters of that one step in a given session.
    Scripts may feel more "exotic" but in Illustrator scripting is more for things that the standard interface can't do. (One should be able to invoke a macro with a script and vice-versa, and that, like everything else that falls into the Adobe feature request black hole, has been requested since AI first acquired scripting.)

  • HOW TO MAKE A BOOLEAN FUNCTION IN LABVIEW5.0

    I want to use a boolean funtion but it does not exist in existing functions?so how can I do it?I final aim is how to make a VALVE boolean function and how to use it?please teach me,experts! Thank you very much!

    Hi,
    what do you mean by "boolean function"?
    For boolean operations you can use
    1. Case structure. It is located in Functions->Structures
    2. Boolean functions (such as AND, OR, NOT, etc.). They are located in Functions->Boolean
    3. Comparison functions (such as equal?, greater?, less?, etc.). They are located in Functions->Comparison
    You have to give more info about your problem.
    Good luck.

    operationBinding.getParamsMap().put("userName",userNameVal);
    operationBinding.getParamsMap().put("password",passwordVal);
    operationBinding.execute();
    i am getting operation verifyLogin not found error.Please suggest me something to do.

    Hi vlsn,
    Can you try with the below code
    // in your backing bean
    OperationBinding operation = bindings.getOperationBinding("verifyLogin");
    //Put your both parameters here
    operation.getParamsMap().put("parameter_name1", parameterValue1);
    operation.getParamsMap().put("parameter_name2", parameterValue2);
    operation.execute();
    if (operation.getResult() != null) {
    Boolean result = (Boolean) operation.getResult();

  • An expression of non-boolean type specified in a context where a condition is expected, near ','

    I am getting the error message, "An expression of non-boolean type specified in a context where a condition is expected, near ',' " when running an ssrs 2008 r2 report.
    The sql embedded in the dataset is:
    IF @reportID <> 0
    BEGIN
      SELECT 'Students report 1' AS selectRptName, 1 AS rptNumValue
      UNION
      SELECT 'Students report 2', 2
      UNION
      SELECT 'Students report 3', 3
      UNION
      SELECT 'Students report 4', 4
      UNION
      SELECT 'Students report 5', 5
      ORDER BY selectRptName
    END
    The sql runs fine in managment studio when I declare @reportID.
    The sql runs fine with I comment out  'IF @reportID <> 0'.
    The @reportID is a parmeter value that is passed to the applicable dataset.
    The @reportID can have more than one value.
    Thus can you show me sql and/or tell me what I need to do to solve the issue for me?

    Hi wendy,
    After testing the issue in my environment, I can reproduce it when I select more than one values in the @reportID parameter drop-down list. As per my understanding, it seems that you are trying to filter the dataset with the @reportID parameter. When it
    doesn’t contain value ‘0’, the dataset returns values. Otherwise, no value is returned in the dataset.
    If in this scenario, we can achieve this requirement with filters in the dataset. For more details, please refer to the following steps:
    Modify the dataset with the below query:
    SELECT 'Students report 1' AS selectRptName, 1 AS rptNumValue
    UNION
    SELECT 'Students report 2', 2
    UNION
    SELECT 'Students report 3', 3
    UNION
    SELECT 'Students report 4', 4
    UNION
    SELECT 'Students report 5', 5
    ORDER BY selectRptName
    Click the Filters in the left pane of Dataset Properties dialog box.
    Add a filter as below:
    Expression: =INSTR(JOIN(Parameters!reportID.Value,","),"0")>0
    Type: Boolean
    Operator: =
    Value: false

  • Optional operations on extended data type

    Hello everyone,
    I am currently working on a project where I have to read data from either a database or a file and depending on how much information is available different statistics will be computed.
    Currently I have two data types MyRecord and ExtendedMyRecord which are both interfaces and provide getter methods to retrieve the data. ExtendedMyRecord extends MyRecord. For both interfaces there is a default implementation.
    The first thing the application does is it loads records from the database - whcih in most cases are MyRecord objects. Afterwards statistics are calculated for the whole set of records.
    In case all records are of type ExtendedMyRecord additional operations may be performed.
    However what got me thinking is that MyRecord currently has three fields and ExtendedMyRecord has 6 fields. In the current architecture I have to create new classes and interfaces in case I ever have to extend the number of fields in the database (or I would have to change one of the interfaces and put the additional fields there and change all code using them).
    Does it make more sense to provide a boolean operation isAvailable() which can be used to determine whether a particular field was available for a certain record or is the design I currently use - where I check using instanceof - the better approach?
    Any ideas?
    Kind Regards,
    snowbird

    The first thing the application does is it loads
    records from the database - whcih in most cases are
    MyRecord objects. Afterwards statistics are
    calculated for the whole set of records.
    In case all records are of type ExtendedMyRecord
    additional operations may be performed.That description doesn't sound good to me.
    Database operations require three things
    1. Functionality to access the database.
    2. Data specific to the database (like a connection)
    3. Data specific to the application (like a customer name which might be stored in a record in the database.)
    Your description sounds like you are mixing 1 and 3 (and perhaps throwing 2 in as well.)
    That is always wrong. Because only the database layer should have 1 and 2. 3 is entirely seperate from 1 and 2 and should be kept that way.
    Keeping it seperate leads to the following type of structures....
    - Customer, has the name, account, etc.
    - CustomerCollection, contains a list of Customer.
    - CustomerDao, this takes a Customer and stores it, updates it, etc. It also has queries that creates CustomerCollection.
    There are variations on the above where there might be more classes for each of the above. But in all cases Customer is never a "record".
    In Java Blueprints, the Customer record about would be a Transfer Object (or Data Transfer Object) and CustomerDao would be a Data Access Object.

  • Combining closed paths in Illustrator CS3

    Dunno how simple this one is, but I have two closed paths of the same colour that overlap to appear as one object when printed. I'm trying to combine these two paths into one object so that if I apply a stroke weight to it, it outlines the whole object, instead of individually. Is there a simple way of doing this or do I have to add points manually?
    Keep in mind I'm not asking about a compound path.

    You use the pathfinder selecting both objects and clicking on the first icon at the top left if you wish you can keep this alive or you can expand it. In either case you can now apply a stroke to the new shape.
    Ore you can select both and then click on the live paint bucket and turn it into a live paint group and choose the option to paint both fills and strokes. and paint away.

  • Element position in boolean array

    Hi,
    I have a boolean array, whose elements are initialized to false. For example,
    private boolean array[] = new boolean[10];Later on I set an element of the array to true. Let's say
    array[5] = true;My question is how can I get the integer position of the element whose value(s) is/are true? Is there a method that does this? I looked into Arrays class but couldn't find anything.
    Thanks in advance.

It has loads of stuff for doing anything your heart desires for a bunch of bits, including Boolean operations on combinations and what you want.
