BPS - possibility of Manual Planning Functions

Hi guys,
I need some technical advice. Please advice if this task can be "EASILY" accomplished via BPS Manual Planning Function ?
My client need to input certain data into BW and generate a report displaying all the below mentioned data into a simple BW query.
Type of data that need to be inputted manually (key-in) :-
Market Velocity
AVG Daily Trading Value
Mkt CAP of New Listing
No. of new Listing
No. of Derivative Instructions
Please assist soonest possible

Hi John,
Should work. If you have an InfoCube (type transactional) with the chars & keyfigs, you could do a manual planning. However, for demo purposes, you could also use transaction RSINPUT for this cube. If you have defined your correct InfoObjects, you have these several options.
If you want to report on this transactional InfoCube, make sure you include the variable for "most current data" in your BEx report.

Reading manual planning function header data in exit function

Hello all,
I would like to know if is there a chance to read header data of a planning function. The planning function is determined by user selection (user choose which value will be in ) and in exit function I then modify the buffer by data which I get by calling RFC on another system.
My problem is that buffer contain all the planning data for whole planning area (it seems) so there is many unnecessary call. How can I get in exit function value specified by user at start of a planning session?

There's some issue the planning funciton will only read the data specified by the users (variable values).
Check the configuraiton once again.

How to transfer data between planning functions in BPS

Hi All,
I have requirement, where user will enter the sales qty plan in manual planning function and need to read the zinfo object to distribute the sales qty accordingly to manufacturing plant and push into infocube.
To fulfill above requirement, i'm thinking to create one manual plan and user will enter the total sales qty and create one more exit planning function to distribute the sales qty for each plant.
For above approach, i need to get the data enter in mannual planning function to exit planning function.
Can anyone let me know how to transfer data from one planning function to other planning function under same planning level and package.

Hi Santosh,
You can achieve the Distribute functionality using the Standard Planning Function for Distribute (Refer SAP Help for details).
Moreover you would not have to do anything specifically to transfer data from one Planning Function to another. The application picks up the latest data records for processing whatever Function you are executing. If you want to execute a series of Planning Functions you could use a Planning sequence to achieve the same.

Integrated Planning vs BPS - Planning Function and filters

I'm trying to create a planning function previously defined in a BPS system into a new system with Integrated Planning. Some considerations:
BPS:
- I define first a planning level on a planning area. In this level I set some selection values.
- Then I define a planning package that can contain other further filter values
- Then I create my planning function
- Then I create a parameter group that contain parameter values the function will use.
Integrated Planning:
- I can create a planning level and, separately, I can define more than one group of filters;
- Then, I can create a planning function, where I can set some fixed values in the "field used for condition" tab. These values are common for every user that launch the function.
So, from my point of view, it seems that:
BPS: I have 3 points where I can set filter parameters (level, package and parameter group), and I can launch for example the same function selecting different packages or different parameter groups;
IP: I have only one point where I can set filter parameters (Filter, defined on level)
Is all right? In this case, I don't exactly know how to migrate the same function defined in BPS in the Integrated Planning environment.
Any ideas?

In IP you have 2 places, Filter and the function itself. In the function you will get characters for conditions where you can again filter. Migration is simple.
And in BPS? If I define a planning package with a filter (example: Country = Italy) and I select this filter during the launch of the function, do I see records with country = Italy in my reference data?
I guess you are mentioning package as filter. If yes then yes you will only get Italy data in your reference.
The parameter group restrictions in BPS are done in planning function itself in IP. But one difference is in BPS it allowed multiple parameter groups.
And I think even in BPS FOX brought reference data that were subsets of restrictions made in packages and planning level. I dont think in BPS also we were able to read reference data out of the planning level and package.

Execution of a planning function with the used dimension values in a crosstab

Hello,
would like to execute planning functions within Design Studio but I don't really know how I combine this execution with the used dimension values in a crosstab for the .
Here the requirement:
3 Planning functions which should use the same filter (all values of all dimensions in the crosstab) and which should run one after another:
// open data slice
PF_1.execute();
// generate combinitions
PF_2.execute();
// close data slice
PF_3.execute();

Hi Arun,
in general it is not possible to nest planning functions. The inner function would update the data in the plan buffer without the outer function knowing about it. Also the inner function might be on a different aggregation level which would make things very tricky.
Alternatively you can include ABAP logic into a FOX formula:

Or just create the complete logic in one ABAP planning function type.

Execute BPS planning function on opening of web planning layout

Hi all,
Does anyone know how to execute a planning function automatically at the moment of opening a web planning layout in a BPS web planning folder(tx code BPS_WB/BPS_WIF0)?
This was possible in the old BPS planning folder, but does not seem possible in the web planning folders?

Hello Rael,
Basically you have 2 options:
- Use the same trick as in the how to paper "How to call a BPS Web Interface with predefined variable values" (see service market place, alias BW, then BI Planning). In the BSP page you do not set a variable value but use the BPS API to execute a planning function (just call the function module API_SEMBPS_FUNCTION_EXECUTE). When using the url parameters in a similar way as in the how to paper you can call different function modules for different web applications.
- You can use the application class in the web interface builder and call the function in the "on load" method. There is a how to paper describing how such a application class can be used (Validate key figure values in manual planning - web). Note that there another event is used and thus a check AFTER input is done.
Well - the second option might be a little more elegant but I think the first one is definitely less complicated and less work...

Increase empty rows in BPS Manual planning

Hi All,
I have a BPS layout and there is already data in the cube and I can see it. when I want to add additional data via this manual planning layout, ı only see 20 empty rows. when ı insert 20 rows of data and save it, new 20 empty rows will come.
Is it possible to increase these rows from 20 to 500.
I want to insert 500 rows of data at a same time.

we have had the same problem and could extend the number of input ready rows by changing of the system function:
Function Group: UPP_FRONT_SPREADS
Include: LUPP_FRONT_SPREADSTOP
Following line was changed:
*\constants: c_dummies_number type upp_y_row value 20.
constants: c_dummies_number type upp_y_row value 500.

IP - Is it possible to call exit planning function from ABAP Report..

Hi All,
Greetings.
Is it possible to call exit planning function from ABAP Report (t-code SE38) ? Or I mean is not limited only to be called from ABAP Report, perhaps from BSP / Web-Dynpro / Function Module.
If somebody here has been doing it before, I'm keen to ask to kindly share it. Particularly how to call and transfer data to that exit function.
Or if somebody has done in BPS, appreciate if it can be shared too .

You can achive this as suggested by Mattias in your previous post.
Lets say you have next data structure:
CostCenter | Amount | PercentForDistibution |
Create input ready query in this format. Restrict cost center by variable type range.
Create WAD with analysis item.
When you run web page you enter range of cost centers (lets say you will enter 101004 to 101010).
I assume you have data only for 101004 in your cube (lets say 1000).
You will see only one record in your webpage.
CostCenter | Amount | PercentForDistibution |
101004 | 1000 | NOTHING
When you create WAD in analysis item properties set "NUMBER_OF_NEW_LINES" to lets say 1 (so in WAD you will see always one blank line for entering new data).
Just add 6 new records:
CostCenter | Amount | PercentForDistibution |
101005 | NOTHING| 10
101006 | NOTHING| 30
101007 | NOTHING| 20
101008 | NOTHING| 25
101009 | NOTHING| 5
101010 | NOTHING| 10
Then run planning FOX function like this:
FOREACH Z_COST_CENTER.
IF {Amount, Z_COST_CENTER} <> 0
Z_AMNT_TO_DISTRIBUTE = {Amount, Z_COST_CENTER}.
ENDIF.
ENDFOR.
FOREACH Z_COST_CENTER.
IF {PercentForDistibution Z_COST_CENTER} <> 0.
{Amount, Z_COST_CENTER} = Z_AMNT_TO_DISTRIBUTE * {PercentForDistibution Z_COST_CENTER}.
ENDIF.
ENDFOR.
It is not perfect FOX, but as an idead, it should work.

We have manual layouts to input data in bps. planning functions are used to modify or calculate results from the entered or already available data in the cube.

SEM-BPS Creation of the Manual Planning

Hi All,
Am new to SEP BPS.
Am trying the create the Manual Plannng. but it is giving the following message.
"Select a node related to tree".
I followed the steps mentioned below.
Selected the Planing LEvel, from planning menu selected the option manual planning --> create.
it gives me the above step.
The other alternative follwed is right click on the planning level, in the context menu it suppose to list the create manual planning. but am not able to see this option.
To create a manual plan any settings has to be done...

To create Manual Planning, select the Planning package for the Planning Level and then select "Create Manual Planning"
alternatively
once you have selected the Planning package on the right click mouse of the planning functions also will give you the option to do the same.

WAD execute planning function only for manually selected cells

Hello,
I have a simple standard "delete" planning function. In the WAD I add this function as a button.
Is it possible to make it so that the delete function only executes for the manually selected cells in the WAD planning layout.
I want to manually select 3 cells (3 periods out of 12 that are displayed as fixed columns) and then run the delete function which should only delete values of those 3 highlighted cells.

Deleting values in selected cells is not ossible when using delete planning function. However, there is an alternative. You can implement the How-To guide "How to Copy and Paste in BEx Web Applications for IP http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/80220fed-0e6d-2b10-bbb9-f6af76dee0cc"
Then in delete script function which is called on delete button you add code to call REFRESH_DATA command as well.
So whatever cell you select and then click delete the data will be deleted and by REFRESH_DATA the same will be updated in planning buffer.

Us Planning Function to Update BPS Variable

I have read through several 'How To' papers on variables, but did not come across this. Is it possible to develop a planning function (FOX or User Exit) to prgramatically read and then update a BPS variable?


Hi 
--> You can write an ABAP Exit Variable and populate TO variable as From Variable + 1. You can then use both these variables in a Planning Level and use Normal BPS Copy to copy data from FROM version to TO version. You can include this Function in a Global Planning Sequence and later on include this Sequence in a process chainby creating variant on Standard Program UPC_BUNDLE_EXECUTE. 
Let us assume that because of some reasons you don't want to write ABAP Exit. Then you can write a FOX Code to do copy for you. Choose Version as Field to be changed. You can use TMVL operator in FOX to increment your FROM variable and populate your TO variable. You would have to include all of your characteristics in your planning level to be safe. But please note that this is not a recommended way to do copy. You should use standard BPS Copy Function as far as possible.

In BW BPS when we have to got for manula planning & when we have to use the planning functions

we can go for manual planning when the plan data to be entered is less.
Next if we wont find any suitable planning function for our requirement then we can go for manual planning.
We go for planning functions: if the volume of data is very large and very difficult to enter manually. If it consists of different mathamatical calculations which can be defined and can be incorporated as predefined planning function or FOX.

IP-Planning Function Help!! Is this possible?

Dear Experts,
I am relatively new to IP and I want to check if this is possible. I would like to copy a Keyfigure value from one Aggregation level to another Aggregation level.
Here is my scenario.
I have an Aggregation level 1 where it has characteristics Product Group, Year, Version and Percentage. So the planner would plan as
Product Grp-Year-Version---Percentage
GROUP1-2010-100---10%
GROUP2-2010-100---20%
GROUP3-2010-100---15%
Now I have another Aggregation level 2 where it has characteristics Product Group, Product, Year, Version and Cost. I would want the Percentage value which was planned in Agg. level 1 to be copied to all the products in that group. My Planning book would look like

Currently The above products already exist in the cube but the Percentage value for them is blank. When the user saves the first planning book I would want the Planning function to be executed and change the percentage value of each product based on the Prodcut group it belongs to. Also I want the Plan cost to be calculated with the percentage value and the standard cost.
Now when the Planned opens the second planning book he can see the Plan cost already calculated based on the percentage value. However, I will provide an option to the user to change the Plan cost if needed.
Important thing for me to know how I can take the percentage value from first few records and change the value of percentage in the second set of records for each product based on its product group.
Hope my explanation is clear and it is possible to do it.

Hey Andrey, I have tried in several different way but was not able to achieve this. My Stupidity!! I am new to IP and this is the first time I am using Fox formulae and this is driving me crazy. I think its just a basic understanding issue.
I just want to reiterate whay I exactly wanted. Could you please help me with the code.
Here is the current data in the planning cube. The first 3 rows are planned from a planning book. The rest of the rows are loaded from a flat file. When the planning function is executed we would want to take the percentage from the Product group and assign it to each product in the rest of the rows there by calculating the Plan cost.

SEM BPS - Planning function to distribute total value over months

Hello,
We use SEM BPS. In fact we use the integration of SEM BPS in the CRM opportunity component as opportunity planning.
Now we want to distribute the total value of certain key figures over the months. Either equal distribution or increasing distribution like 1% increase every month. What would be the best way to do that with a planning function?
We need to take into account that the number of months depends on the start and end date of the transaction (opportunity).

Hi Thomas,
I would probably create a fox formula, do a foreach in selection loop over the months and distribute the values within that formula.
If you want to use a standard distribution function, you need to create the reference data somewhere before, which could be a bit difficult if the timeframe changes according to user selections.
