Bug driver 10g on Spatial tables with MapX

I have migrated from 9i to 10g with spatial tables.
I have the message "Error creating buffer" when I call the function SearchWithinDistance of MapX5, in VB6.
The function works properly with database 9i or database 10g and driver 9 but gives the error with database 9i or database 10g and driver version 10. All other functions work well...
Anyone can help ? Thanks

Hi David,
I had never heard of this bug before. Hopefully this info regarding a workaround will be what you need:
This problem affects any REF or ADT ("user-defined" types) with NOT NULL.
The workaround is to drop the NOT NULL constraint before exporting and adding it after importing.

  • Funny bug in SQLDev 2.1EA - tables with same name...

    Hi,
    i opened two session in SQLDev 2.1EA, on two distinct instances.
    These sessions are open against the same user and i am clicking on a table with the same name.
    This happens only when the "pin" icon is not set.
    Apparently SQLDev doesn't not distinguish between the two connections when it comes to display the object attributes like columns, data, indexes and so on.
    So, practically, if i click on object 1 (instance 1), click on data tab, then i click on object 1 (instance 2), i still see the data for instance 1, no matter if i ask to refresh.
    This doesn't happen if i open each object in a separate tab.
    This happens on SQLDev on Mac OS X.

    Sorry to drop in, but I suppose many have this setup: the same users/connections on both development and production databases.
    However I'm not able to reproduce now on my 10g DBs, I did see the same problem a couple of versions ago (when I was on 9i), but AFAIK that got fixed. Maybe regression anyway?

  • Cluster table with Spatial column

    Hi,
    I tried to create a spatial table(with one SDO_GEOMETRY column) with cluster on one attribute column. But I keep getting error ORA-03001: unimplemented feature.
    Is this mean that I can not cluster a table with SDO_GEOMETRY column?
    Thanks
    Helen

    Hi Helen,
    The parameter you mention is only for real application clusters, not for clustering columns of tables.
    As far as I can tell, when clustering columns of different tables together Oracle will try to
    store all of the data associated with those tables together on disk.
    The Oracle Spatial geometry datatype (mdsys.sdo_geometry) includes two varray types of
    length 1048576. Because these varrays can hold so much data Oracle "makes arraingements"
    to store data in these columns outside of the table in a lob segment (in reality, data is only
    stored out-of-line if there is over 4kb of data in the varray).
    Because of this (no ability to ensure the spatial data is stored with the clustering columns),
    the clustering mechnism is disabled when you have spatial data.
    I read through the doc and it is unclear - the only restriction I could find is using these columns
    as the clustering key.
    Hope this helps,
    Dan

  • Spatial Performance with join

    I have a Oracle Spatial table with 3.5 million rows plus another auxillary table with 3.5 million rows. A query over these two tables joined returns a full result (250 rows) based on one to one join - here's an example:
    Select count(*)
    from F, N
    where F.id = n.id and (F.GEOM,mdsys.sdo_geometry (2003,8307, null, mdsys.sdo_elem_info_array (1,1003,1), mdsys.sdo_ordinate_array(-120.0,49.5,-119.0,49.5,-119.0,60.35,-120.0,60.35,-120.0,49.5)),
    'mask= ANYINTERACT querytype=WINDOW') = 'TRUE') AND N.PNUM = '4';
    It takes an average of 35 seconds to get the full result set back. I've gathered statistics, tweaked memory parameters and this is the best I can get. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    This is an interesting problem. It looks like Oracle is doing the right thing for each of the table accesses - use the index and fetch by rowid.
    The only thing you have to play with if you don't go to materialized views or temp tables is how the results of the two table queries are joined.
    You don't have a lot of options. Hash join seems to be slow, but you don't know if it is faster or slower compared with nested loops or merge join.
    I'd compare what you have done with something like the following to test nested loops:
    select /*+ no_merge use_nl (f1,n1) */ count(*)
    from
    (select id
    from f
    where sdo_anyinteract ( F.GEOM,
    sdo_geometry (2003,8307, null, sdo_elem_info_array (1,1003,1),
    sdo_ordinate_array (-120.0,49.5,-119.0,49.5,-119.0,60.35,
    -120.0,60.35,-120.0,49.5))) = 'TRUE') f1,
    (select id
    from n
    where n.pnum='4') n1
    where f1.id=n1.id ;
    and presort with a merge join hint to see how it performs:
    select /*+ no_merge use_merge (f1,n1) */ count(*)
    from
    (select id
    from f
    where sdo_anyinteract ( F.GEOM,
    sdo_geometry (2003,8307, null, sdo_elem_info_array (1,1003,1),
    sdo_ordinate_array (-120.0,49.5,-119.0,49.5,-119.0,60.35,
    -120.0,60.35,-120.0,49.5))) = 'TRUE'
    order by id) f1,
    (select id
    from n
    where n.pnum='4'
    order by id) n1
    where f1.id=n1.id ;
    It might be that you already have the best Oracle can do, but I'd be curious to know how you make out.

  • Performance issue when inserting into spatial indexed table with JDBC

    We have a table named 'feature' which has a "sdo_geometry" column, and we created spatial index on that column,
    CREATE TABLE feature ( id number, desc varchar, oshape sdo_gemotry)
    CREATE INDEX feature_sp_idx ON feature(oshape) INDEXTYPE IS MDSYS.SPATIAL_INDEX;
    Then we executed the following SQL to insert about 800 records into that table(We tried this by using DB visualizer and
    our Java application, both of them were using JDBC driver to connect to the oracle 11gR2 database) .
    insert into feature(id,desc,oshape) values (1001,xxx,xxxxx);
    insert into feature (id,desc,oshape) values (1002,xxx,xxxxx);
    insert into feature (id,desc,oshape) values (1800,xxx,xxxxx);
    We encoutered the same problem as this topic
    Performance of insert with spatial index
    It takes nearly 1 secs for inserting one record,compare to 50 records inserted per sec without spatial index,
    which is 50x drop in peformance when doing insertion with spatial index.
    However, when we copy and paste those insertion scripts into Oracle Client(same test and same table with spatial index), we got a totally different performance result:
    more than 50 records inserted in 1 secs, just as fast as the insertion without building spatial index.
    Is it because Oracle Client is not using JDBC? Perhaps JDBC was got something wrong when updating those spatial indexed tables.

    Normally JDBC use auto-commit. So each insert can causes a commit.
    I don't know about Oracle Client. In sqlplus, insert is just a insert,
    and you execute "commit" to explicitly commit your changes.
    So maybe this is the reason.

  • Error while running spatial queries on a table with more than one geometry.

    Hello,
    I'm using GeoServer with Oracle Spatial database, and this is a second time I run into some problems because we use tables with more than one geometry.
    When GeoServer renders objects with more than one geometry on the map, it creates a query where it asks for objects which one of the two geometries interacts with the query window. This type of query always fails with "End of TNS data channel" error.
    We are running Oracle Standard 11.1.0.7.0.
    Here is a small script to demonstrate the error. Could anyone confirm that they also have this type of error? Or suggest a fix?
    What this script does:
    1. Create table object1 with two geometry columns, geom1, geom2.
    2. Create metadata (projected coordinate system).
    3. Insert a row.
    4. Create spacial indices on both columns.
    5. Run a SDO_RELATE query on one column. Everything is fine.
    6. Run a SDO_RELATE query on both columns. ERROR: "End of TNS data channel"

    This error appears in GeoServer and SQLPLUS.
    I have set up a completly new database installation to test this error and everything works fine. I tried it again on the previous database but I still get the same error. I also tried to restart the database, but with no luck, the error is still there. I geuss something is wrong with the database installation.
    Anyone knows what could cause an error like this "End of TNS data channel"?

  • Spatial Query with multiple geometries from 2 tables

    Hi,
    I'm using Oracle 8.1.7. I am trying to do a spatial query on two tables with multiple geometries. There are two spatial tables. One made up of points and one made up of polygons. There are 829551 rows in the table of points and 1817795 rows in the table with polygons...
    I want to find all polygons where one of this points is within it...
    This query is pretty intensive querying two large spatial tables against each other and so I need to find the most efficient way of running this query. I've been running variations of my query for the last two week and every time it's bombed out with various errors after 12-24 hrs processing like out of memory, out of tablespace, out of processing, invalid index etc etc etc. I need to get this query run asap... Any tips would be gratefully appreciated..
    For the session running the query I've allocated 16M sort area with
    ALTER SESSION SET SORT_AREA_SIZE=16777216;
    Below is the query I'm running... How can I improve this please? BTW PARCEL_OVERLAPS contains the points and TP$_PARCEL_AREAS the polygons.
    SELECT lu.LNU_PARCEL_ID
         FROM
              seventy.PARCEL_OVERLAPS po,
              imap_topol.TP$_PARCEL_AREAS pa,
              TP$_PARCEL_CENTROID_AREA pca,
              TDCR_LAND_UNIT lu
         WHERE
              SDO_FILTER(po.geometry, pa.area,
              'querytype=WINDOW') = ’TRUE’ and
              sdo_within_distance(po.geometry,pa.area,'distance=0')='TRUE' and
              pa.delete_date is null and
              Lu.LNU_LAND_UNIT_UNIQUE_NUM = pca.CENTROID_ID and
              pa.AREA_ID = pca.AREA_ID and
              pca.DELETE_DATE IS NULL and
              pa.DELETE_DATE IS NULL;

    Albert,
    Thanks for your reply and the tips you've given. The tp$_parcel_areas table will always be bigger so I've changed the order to sdo_within_distance(pa.area,po.geometry,'distance=0')='TRUE'. The requested counts for those queries are

    13:48:21 6 and pa.AREA_ID = pca.AREA_ID;
    COUNT(*)

    There was no reason for both filter and within_distance. I did try use the anyinteract but for some reason that does not return the desired results(I've added one id row as a test to make sure it returns desired results). Plus Oracle have recomended using the within distance for better performance..

  • Ora-20001 when creating a form on table with report (bug?)

    Having some trouble creating a "Form on table with report".
    1) I pick my table
    2) take most of the defaults on the page where you pick the report type (interactive) and the page number (I changed it to 950). next->
    3) Do not use tabs. Next->
    4) Select all columns for the report. THEN (here's the problem) set an optional where clause of system_role_name like 'ODPSPOPUP%'. Next->
    5) choose standard edit link. next->
    6) Specify a page of 951 for the form (leave others defaults). next->
    7) Set the form primary key (defined in table). next->
    8) use existing trigger. next->
    9) choose all columns for the form. next->
    10) Leave actions to insert, update, delete. next->
    11) Get to the summary page and click Finish
    Then I get an error page saying:
    ORA-20001: Unable to create query and update page. ORA-20001: Unable to create query and update page. ORA-00933: SQL command not properly ended
    If I go back to step 4 and erase my where clause the wizard completes successfully.
    Also if I change the report type in step 2 from the default of "Interactive" to "Classic" the wizard completes successfully. However upon running the report I get a query parse error. Looks like the where clause in the report sql is: system_role_name like ''ODPSPOPUP%'' (two single quotes on each side).
    It looks as if you cannot specify a where clause with a quoted string. The wizard is expecting a bind variable.
    Workaround(s):
    1) Don't specify a where clause when report type = Interactive in "create form on table with report" wizard.
    or
    2) Specify a bogus where clause using bind variable syntax such as "system_role_name like :BOGUSVARIABLE". Then edit the report query once the wizard finishes and change the where clause to the constant string you wanted to use in the wizard (e.g. "system_role_name like 'MYSYSTEM%'")

  • Cannot view table with spatial advisor

    I have loaded a table using SafeFME software. It did not populate SDO_GEOMETRY.SDO_SRID during the conversion from ArcInfo coverage to Oracle8i Spatial SDO_GEOMETRY.
    Since I could not view the spatial data with the spatial advisor, I ran the VALIDATE_LAYER procedure and found the error. At that point I INSERTed a value for SDO_SRID into my table, and into XXXX_SDO_GEOM_METADATA. Still cannot view the spatial data with spatial advisor. Why not?

    Hi Dan:
    the Spatial Index Advisor message at the lower part of the apps' frame says 'Drew 3701 geometries' after I attempt to "Draw all geometries" (third button down on the left).
    After this, the viewport is blank. It is odd, though - it appears that the bounds are set correctly. When I add another "layer" and draw it, the viewport is referencing the correct area (the bounds for the first layer). This behavior occurs when the XXXX_SDO_GEOM_METADATA.SRID is either NULL or set to a value.
    Our MapXtreme app shows the same behavior (no display of data, no error message).
    I'll try to run the VALIDATE (layer and geometry) functions and procedures again.
    We have loaded some data with the routine using shp2sdo.exe (like in the tutorials) and those are drawing just fine. Strange.

  • BUG: ADF BC read-only VO with no Key attrs + af:table

    Hello all,
    I've got a bug to report - quite easily reproducable with the HR demo schema. To see it:
    1). Create a new application from the ADF BC + Faces template
    2). Create a read-only VO, use "SELECT employee_id, first_name from employees" and order by "employee_id" - take the defaults for everything - do not set any key attributes.
    3). Create an AM, add the VO to it's data model. Turn off AM pooling in the configuration.
    4). Create a JSPX page. Drag-drop the VO from the data control palette as an ADF read-only table - with selection
    5). Bind the actionlistener of the "submit" button to a backing bean method that just system.out.println's something.
    Now, run the app. Try selecting an employee from the first page (records 1-10) and clicking submit - it works. Now, scroll to the second set of records, select one and click submit - no message appears - the action listener is never called. No errors are thrown.
    Workaround: ensure the VO has employee_id selected as a key attribute.
    My code is at the bottom for reference.
    Cheers,
    John

  • 10g bug? Can't see tables in Access-Dababase

    I successfully create a database connection to an Access-Database,but i can't find these tables that i have defined in Access.
    thanks.

    This appears to be a bug in 10g. We are not correctly handling tables in Access. Thanks for alerting us to the problem.

  • Replicate Table with spatial columns

    I'd like to know how to
    replicate (updatable snapshot) a table
    with spatial columns.
    when i try to create a master repobject
    i've got ORA-23318 error.
    What can i do?

    Hi Vincent,
    Oracle does not support replication of object in 8.1.6 or 8.1.7. I believe replication support is expected for the version after.
    Sorry,

  • BUG: Apex 4.0.1 form on table with report. Not passing ID correctly

    I'm trying to create a form on a table with report using the wizard. I opted for a classic report page.
    The edit link on the report page does not work. The link looks like this:
    http://ngdwpc3:7777/pls/apex/f?p=101:15:1800428764039812::::P15_ID:#ID#
    This is clearly wrong because one would expect a value to be passed and not a column name.
    Looking at the generated report page I get 60 columns. This seems to be a result of the setting:
    no-checked :Use Query-Specific Column Names and Validate Query
    checked :Use Generic Column Names (parse query at runtime only)
    The ID column in the table is mapped to COL01.
    Changing the value being passed in the link columns to #COL01# results in the correct behaviour.
    My guess is that the option "Use Query-Specific Column Names and Validate Query" is the correct setting for the generated report.
    Rene

    Yes, I guess this is a Bug.
    1. When you speciify a WHERE clause in the Wozard it adds extra quotes when appending the WHERE into the Report SELECT.
    I think thats the root cause, all others just follow as a consequence.
    a. Because the query cannot be parse ( two single quotes) the Use Generic Column Names (parse query at runtime only) is automtacillay set
    b. This leads to COL01 to COL60
    c. Which is turn leads to the link not working.
    I could easily recreate the scenario.
    To fix it I did the following
    1. Removed the extra quotes from the query
    2. Selected Use Query-Specific Column Names and Validate Query and Saved
    It started working correct.
    I suggest you edit your Thred name add BUG at the begining so that it gets spotted by Oracle folks on the forum.
    Regards
