Bug: Gray Gamma 2.2 Images Appear Incorrectly in Screen Saver

I recently noticed that some images in my Apple TV screen saver were appearing distorted -- incorrectly cropped, shimmery, with vertical lines through them. I spent a fair bit of time trying to figure out what the images had in common when I realized they were all black-and-white. I did a Get Info on the images and they ALL used the Color Profile "Gray Gamma 2.2". Opening the images in Adobe Photoshop Elements 10, converting their color profile to sRGB (Image > Convert Color Profile > select sRGB option), and then saving them back out eliminated the problem once I forced the Apple TV to refresh its cache of images.
Hopefully Apple will realize this problem exists and do something about it -- I am posting it here for the benefit of anyone else who may run into this problem and can't figure out how to solve it.

I am having the same problem with certain B&W images - most of these images are fairly old, i.e., 1950s on back. The only info I can find regarding color is this - Get Info tells me the color space is gray.
Now, I can go back to the original photo source and re-download the photo and it displays just fine in Apple TV, whether slideshow or screen saver. But, it's a lot of work to go back and do that. Several hundred images worth of work.

The desktop image is fine, taken from the exact same pool of jpg photos. However, as soon as the slide show screen saver comes on, the images are scrambled. What is it about the apple screen saver algorithm that scrambles the pics?

Itunes artwork does not appear as a screen saver any longer

My itunes album artwork no longer appears as a screen saver on my Macbook when it goes into screen saver mode. The screen goes black and a message says that iTunes are work is not available. What can I do to correct this problem?

I found the answer immediatly after posting the question. My iphone messages were stored in itunes. When I deleated those messages, and restarted iTunes the album art work as a screen saver worked perfectly. Thanks to previous posters.

HDR Pro on CS 5 - Merged image appears but bottom with save buttons cut off??

When I select photos to merge, either via Bridge or within CS5 (Automate/Merge to HDR Pro), the Merged image appears over the CS5 screen. However, the bottom of the HDR screen with the photos selected for the merge along with the Cancel & Save buttons are cut off. The only way for me to exit HDR is to force quit.
My monitor resolution is 1440X900 which is better than the 1024x768 required for CS5.
I noticed the same problem in Terry White's video on Youtube describing workflow between Lightroom & CS5 HDR Pro (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rab25UTe6HY) as well as a couple of other users mentioning the problem to Zeno Bokor of Adobe (http://help.adobe.com/en_US/photoshop/cs/using/WSfd1234e1c4b69f30ea53e41001031ab64-78e5a.h tml).
Does anyone have a solution???

I found the soluion - after spending over an hour with Adobe phone support (800-833-6687) - of which 45min was being on hold.
It turns out that for some computers, Photoshop CS5 doesn't automatically work as efficiently as it could with the monitor resolution, even if the resolution is > than the minimum 1024 X 768. This is more frequent in those that have had older versions of Photoshop in them. This causes part of the screen to be cut off when going into HDR Pro.
One has to "prime" CS5 to recognize one's computer monitor settings. How to do:
Close out of PS CS5
Go to system preferences and select hardware settings/display (For PC would have to go through Control Panel/Hardware/Display)
Change monitor setting to one recommended by Adobe: 1024 X 768 or 1280 X 800
Save changes. Monitor will look less clear if you have been using higher settings...it's ok for now.
Now open CS5 again and access HDR Pro all three ways available, i.e. via Bridge, Mini Bridge and through PS under File/Automate.
Verify that the entire screen is visible including all thumbnails and Save/Close buttons.
Close out of CS5.
Go back to System Preferences ( for PC, go through Control Panel) and change back to your preferred resolution.
Voila! When you open CS5 again you should be able to see the entire screen.
For example, I use a Macbook Pro with OS 10.6.7 and the monitor resolution was set to 1440 X 900. However, I still couldn't see the bottom of the screen with the Save/Close buttons so couldn't save any work (had to force quit or escape to exit HDR). After doing the above steps, I am now able to use HDR Pro w/o problem and access the Merge via all three modes.
Via Mini Bridge - Choose photos to merge--> Tools (above photos, last on right in Content bar) --> Photoshop --> Merge to HDR Pro
Via Bridge - Choose photos to merge--> Tools (Tool Bar beside "Adobe CS5 Bridge" at left top of screen; 3rd from end) --> Photoshop --> Merge to HDR
Via inside Photoshop - File --> Automate --> Merge to HDR
Since this seems to have affected several people and is a simple solution, I have asked the supervisor I spoke to, Laurie, to please have someone in Adobe post this solution.

At log-in Firefox the screen opened up with the message "Oops, We're embarrassed, we are having trouble closing tabs" or similar wording directing me to click on a tab to continue, which I did. At which time a screen full of rows of thumbnail pictures of a young girl in appeared on the screen. Some of the pictures had the girl imitating a sexual act. When I tried to close out of the screen by clicking on the 'X' at the top right of the screen, another screen opened with another larger picture of this little girl. I finally got out of Firefox. When I open it up again the message wasn't on the screen. As these pictures were disturbing I cleared them out of my history.
My questions are - 1. Since these pictures appeared to be of a minor, can you backtrack to the source to find out where they originated and have something done about the individual who posted them? And,
2. - Did my clicking on the link as directed - by Firefox, I thought - open my computer up to the personal information on my computer being compromised?

How to get rid of the attention to choose between my wifi network or the apple tv? That appears in the screen saver

When the screen saver is on appears an message where ask me to choose between my wi fi network or my Apple Tv in order to get the signal from my PC. There is something I must do to set up the Airplay, if so, what I have to do and where?

If you are talking about the header bar of the Message Pane the only way to get rid of it completely is to close the message pane by pressing F8.
There is a add on called Compact Header that will let you make it smaller.

I do not think this forum lets you post an image on the original post. I have not tried it but lots of people have trouble doing it.

Not all pictures appears in my screen saver

How come with my screen saver picture from my photos flux only the last three appear.
I have 175 photos in my flux and only the last 3 one's appear.

As I said the photo stream will only have access to photos from the last 30 days. You cannot change that.
If you want to choose photos from your computer then make sure home sharing is enabled on Apple TV and iTunes. In iTunes select file - home sharing - choose photos to share. Keep on mind it only caches a small amount for the screensaver, typically around 100 photos.

No image appears for dvd player.

When I insert a dvd into the player it starts and gives no indication that anything is wrong. Sound seems to work in what appears to be the appropriate times however no image appears on the screen...how would I fix this?

I find the black Airplay information window that appeared on my apple tv screen after the last update, very annoying. It appears when the screen saver is playing and moves arround as the screen saver changes, can anyone please help me in removing it.

Screen saver images over pictures

I have a couple of questions. When my Mac goes to the screen saver mode it uses random photo's from iPhoto. Occasionally some design, maybe a smiley face, a heart, or something, will be over top of the photo. Any idea's as to how to get rid of these?
My other question is about the same screen saver mode. I have photos coming up that I have deleted from my albums but they still appear on the screen saver.

Tried that but no change. Details - open up safari and go to yahoo - for the main search at the top, I put in Bears. It shows pages of thumbnail pics. tapping once on a thumbnail gets you that image and then tap again to get added info. At that point, it fills the screen. But in order to see more info I have to drag a finger upward to reveal more of the details. I then have to continually do that in order to reveal more details for the searched item. It then pops up to the top each time and repeating that process many times in order to see more of the image data. Don't know how to fix this.

Convert RGB to Gray Gamma 1.2 and count number of color pages

I'm working with a printer for theses and dissertations. I receive the PDF files from our graduate students and pass them along. I'm responsible for checking that the document meets the needs of the printer and billing the students appropriately. I'm using Adobe Acrobat X Pro, and am fairly savvy with the pre-flight profiles (creating and running), but I'm not a designer or printer.
Recently, the printer informed me that our students creating PDF files from Word are actually creating what they consider color documents because black is an RGB color from a Word document. I did see in Word that I can use the "High Quality Print" conversion setting to make the text black from the start, but I'm dealing with the final PDF file more often.
They gave me instructions on how to use the "Convert Colors" command to convert the document (or specific pages) to the Gray Gamma 2.2 profile so those pages would be in black and white - see screenshot:
I then submit the document to their web page, where it tells me the count of color pages. I have two problems:
1. For some documents, even after I convert all pages to the profile above, their preflight tool (they use pit stop through their web site, I think ), tells me that some pages are still in color.
2. I can't seem to find a consistent way to count color pages in Acrobat. I've created a pre-flight profile (seee screenshot below), but my results never match theirs (unless it's a raw PDF file and every page is in color). Am I missing an option? I don't really know what spot colors are, so maybe that's an issue?
What I want to be able to do is:
1. Provide consistent instructions to our students on how to fix their documents (perhaps create a pre-flight profile or droplet for them to put their PDF file into).
AND
2. Count the color pages in their document accurately. The printer bills per the page, and there is a differential between color and black and white printing.
Any help would be appreciated.

To detect a "color" page you only need to look at the first two items (CMY plates or more than 0 spot plates). If an object is in RGB it'll separate onto all four plates when printed.
First question - are you sure that the reports coming back from the printer are correct? If they flag a page as color and you don't, what does that page actually contain? Are there any non-printing items (hidden text, items behind something else, etc.) which won't drop an extra plate when physically printed, but which the print shop might be detecting? You're testing the file from the point of view of the paper passing through the machine, they might just be scanning all the objects and ignoring whether they're visible or not. Open one of the questionable pages using the Output Preview tool (on the Tools > Print Production panel) and look at which plates are used.
FYI, spot color is a purpose-mixed ink (not a 'process' color made from CMYK) which appears on its own plate. Usually it's something like a Pantone color, but it might represent something applied by a different part of the production process entirely - lacquer, foil, embossing, etc. With wet ink printing a spot color was literally taken from another bucket and run on a fifth roller, but in digital printing they're usually converted back to process by the printer hardware. The difference is in how accurately that conversion takes place - so they're common for things like company logos. It's unlikely you'll have any in the type of files you're talking about unless a student has picked one by mistake when writing their document in InDesign. Word doesn't like spots and they're not in JPG/PNG/GIF images.

Image Appears in Browser, but not DreamWeaver

I inserted an image into my HTML page, but a gray icon (that looks like a torn page) appears instead of the image in both Live View and Design View.
However, when I open the page in a browser, or I test it on a browser through DreamWeaver, the image appears as it should.
How can I fix this and have the image display normally in DreamWeaver? I need to see it in order to map hotspots on it for a roll-over map.

First check to see if the image is saved as RGB and not CMYK color space. Check the images size as if its big Dreameaver may not show it. I mean is it 3mb or 300k Also check that the image has been inserted into the Dreamweaver page as 'document' relative rather than 'site root' relative which you can choose when inserting the image.
Failing that if it shows in the browser then link us into the page and I'm sure someone will be able to detemine why its not showing in Dreamwaever

Images appear pixelated in iMovie

My very high res pictures appear pixelated when I put them into iMovie HD 6.0.3 and then when subsequently put into iDVD. I am trying to make movies of my gardens (I am a landscape designer) so image quality is so important.
