Bug report: Mail sends messages with empty bodies

Over the last year, I have experienced a particularly irritating bug in Mail.app at least a dozen times. I finally have a good idea as to what causes it.
The problem involves long email messages (often with attachments) that end up being sent with blank bodies (and no attachments). Even the copy in the "Sent" folder ends up blank, and several minutes or hours of work vanishes into thin air, not to be seen ever again.
I finally realized that this bug only occurs when sending mail through our work SMTP server while outside the work firewall, and only as a result of a certain sequence of events. Here is what happens:
When we connect to our work SMTP server from outside the local network and without going through the VPN, the SMTP server requires password authentication. If the current SMTP selection in Mail.app is the one that does not require authentication, the SMTP server rejects the message. At that point, Mail.app opens the email I am trying to send and brings up a modal dialog that says "Cannot send message using the server xxx.xxx -- The server response was: xxx@xxx relaying prohibited. You should authenticate first." The dialog also presents a drop-down list of SMTP server choices. I choose the password-authenticated version of the server and then click on "Use Selected Server" to send the message.
This works almost all the time, but on occasion it ends up sending a blank message! If I have a long email, particularly with attachments such as PDFs that are rendered in the body of the message, it takes a few seconds for the mail message to be rendered underneath the modal dialog box. Since I am used to this STMP rejection behavior, sometimes I am too fast to choose another STMP server from the list and click on "Use Selected Server" before the mail message is rendered on screen! The result, invariably, is a blank email message that gets sent.
I guess what is happening is that when the STMP server rejects the message and hands it back to Mail.app, the message gets copied into a buffer in order to be displayed on screen. Selecting another server and resending it immediately (before the message is copied into the buffer completely) causes the message body to get trashed.
I hope that this description is adequate for Apple QA folks to replicate and isolate the problem (and hopefully fix it). One solution (although not the most elegant one) would be to disable the "Use Selected Server" action until the message is copied into the buffer and rendered on screen.

Hi, i am having the same problem. this is what i have noticed.
I have 2 x imac's and 2 x macbook air's
i upgraded the 2 macbook air's and 1 of the imac's to Mountain Lion, all these have problems acessing sites that require you to login .
the one remaining imac is still running lion and works perfect.
i am using a dlink router with DD-WRT firmware, i tested teathering from my iphone and i can log into websites fine using the newly upgraded mac's.
It's not a wireless issue as my imac is using an ethernet connection.
is there a compatibility issue with some routers.

Mail Sender Adapter with IMAPS

I had a Mail Sender Adapter running fine with imap. Our Email Server has changed now to secure protocol. Therefore I need to use the Mail Sender Adapter with IMAPS. If I use imaps://<mailserver>:993 in the channel configuration the Mail Adapter aborts with error "not initialized; mail agent null" and in the default trace it says "failed to initialize the channel: java.io.IOException: illegal protocol for XMBIMAPInitiator: imaps#". If I configure the Mail Adapter with imap://<mailserver>:993 the Mail Adapter starts and says "running", but it does not poll the postbox. In the security.log file there is a warning about untrusted certificates "com.sap.security.core.server.https.SecureConnectionFactory#Plain###Attempting to create outgoing ssl connection without trusted certificates#". I did already import the (CA) Certifcate of the mailserver with key storage service of J2EE Engine in the Trusted area and I configured the J2EE Engine for using SSL (the https access to the J2EE Engine works fine).
What is still missing in XI 3.0 (SP12)? I can access the postbox securely with e.g. Thunderbird using port 993.
Has anyone an idea or had already this issue?

The Mail sender --IMAPS , did it solve your issue because i fcae the same kind of Error in Communication Channel :

-Login Credentials is correct.
-Defualt XI Paramters are correct
-Mail Server is the right one
-Tried in command prompt , N:/telnet NZxxx.dznz.corp.net 143 , but i get response : Could not open connection to the host, on port 143 .Connection Failed

Can't send messages with old .mac/me aliases

Hi, I'm using iCloud on the web because I have an old Powerbook as my primary device. I specifically recall that Apple said that I can continue to use my .mac and .me aliases. This is incredibly important since my business is tied to a particular .mac e-mail alias that I've had since, well, dotmac was around.
It looks like I can receive messages with at least one of these aliases, but I cannot send messages with the alias. The alias does not exist in the alias list pull down menu. I tried adding the alias, but was told I already have too many. Three? Very frustrating! Anybody know what's going on or how to fix it? Thanks!

IE11 is the most recent update.
Try to reset all Skype settings.
Quit Skype or use Windows Task Manager to kill any Skype.exe process. Go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %appdata% and then press Enter or click the OK button. The Windows File Explorer will pop up. There locate a folder named “Skype”. Rename this folder to something different, e.g. Skype_old.
Next go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %temp%\skype and then press Enter or click the OK button. Delete the DbTemp folder.
Restart Skype.
N.B. If needed, you will still be able to re-establish your call and chat history. All data is still saved in the Skype_old folder.

Hello mipage,
For that error you would need to make sure that the password is correct in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and look at the outgoing server settings. If you are unsure of what it should be, then the easiest way is to remove the email account and add it back in to add the correct settings. For more information, take a look at the article below

Scheduling a Mail Sending Job with APEX

I would like to know if it is possible to schedule an e-mail sending job with APEX(for purposes like birthday reminders etc). Currently, I am able to send e-mail from APEX by creating a process which is triggered by a button. I am using the apex_mail.send procedure to send e-mail. This is working fine, but I would ideally want the email sending process to be scheduled to run independent of a manual trigger, i.e. the system date should be the trigger, and it should repeat after a specified interval. (The method should be such that emails are sent out even when the APEX application is not running,i.e. the process should take the data directly from the database.)

I'm new to this apex tool...I doesnt know how to configure email.....Has i have seen in ur message that you could able to send email from apex but u asked about scheduling in email, a kind of deep concept to some one....I'm not thing of the scheduling right now...Can you please guide me in step wise manner of how to configure email...Since i doesnt know this basic thing of configuring email with the APEX...

Did another window open with the pasted information? If so, try hitting "enter/return" key and "delete" key at the same time. That should get rid of the current action on the ical, the extra window should go bye-bye, and all should be fine with the world.

Problem with sending message with excel attachment

Couple of questions.
How are you sending this message. Is it a message that you create and send Internally with an attachment.
As you reply me, please also check if the Attachments folder has been set under Administration > System Initialization > General Settings.....Path Tab
SBO tries to copy the attachment from the location you select to the Path defined for Attachments.

Message Mapping -> mmAdmissao, in Imported Message -> Import XML or
XSD, I imported the reduced Idoc file generated above, mapping source
fields to target fields.
The IDOC sent from XI to ECC has this structure (template: 22122)

But does not update HR Master data.
The structure expected in ECC side (template: 20376) is:

By using WE19 transaction, this structure was changed manually; so, the
HR Master data was updated.
Witch kind of customizing or correction could be made in XI, to send
the correct structure to ECC?

Hi Claudio,
In your case, there are perhaps two causes:
1. perhaps when you have import the idoc, for a strange reason, a bad metadata was created by XI. You can clean this one in tcode IDX2 (Idoc metadata cache).
2. but it's also probably an error in your Message Mapping. Have you correctly manage segment E1PITYP?

Cannot send messages with attachments

I recently got a new 13" MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard. I setup Mail to work with our OWA Exchange Server and it works fine except for one major bug. I cannot send ANY messages that have attachments. Here's what I've tried so far to resolve the issue:
Tried a smaller attachment - no change
Tried a larger attachment - no change
Tried composing a new message - no change
Tried replying to a message - no change
Tried forwarding a message - no change
Tried different types of attachments (Word docs, pdfs, jpgs, etc) - no change
Updated to the OS to 10.6.1 - no change
What else can I try?

Right, forgot that part. It goes away for one second (as if the message has been sent), then comes back with this error:
Cannot send message using the server +(my smtp server settings)+. The Exchange 2007 connection to server +(our exchange server's ip address)+ failed. Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be sent.
Below that, I get a list of SMTP servers, but since I only use one account with Mail, its just the Exchange entry. There are three button across the bottom: Edit Message, Try Layer, and Try With Selected Server.
If I select my Exchange server and click Try With Selected Server, it comes right back with this same error.
If I click Try Later, it puts in the Outbox, but never sends it. I left a message in there for a day once and it eventually gave me this error again for that message.
If I click Edit Message, and remove the attachment, I'm able to send the message.
My guess is that Mail isn't encoding the attachments correctly, which means I'll have to wait for Apple to fix the bug.

I have set up an interface and mail adapter to be able to produce emails with plain text in the body. I used SAP note 748024 for this.
So right now I can make XI send emails with dynamic mail addresses. My problem lies in sending attached files with the mails as well.
I have read most of the threads in here, but none of them seem to answer just how to include the attachment. Which field in the 'Mail' message type is used for the attachment??
What needs to be added to the communication channel and adapter for it to include attachments, while the body of the mail still keeps the plain text message??

Mail Sending Messages Before They Are Complete!

Hey guys, I've had numerous problems with Mail in 10.6.1 (see below) that I never had with 10.4, but this problem is the worst! Mail is sending my messages to their recipient before I finish fully typing the email, so the recipient receives an email that cuts off in mid-sentence! What the heck is going on and how do I fix it?
Just FYI, here are the other Mail OSX 10.6.1 issues I have had:
1) I had all kinds of problems syncing Mail with Gmail using IMAP. One of them was I would move messages into a separate folder in Mail, Mail would sync with the Gmail server and create the folder and move the messages, then Mail would go back and retrieve all the emails I had moved and replace them in the old folder!
2) I had a problem where the mailbox archive feature was only archiving some of the emails in a mailbox, so out of 400 messages, for example, the completed archived mailbox would only have 50 of them.
3) There's a useful feature the previous build had that got lost. When you attach a picture, then want to attach another one, it makes you find the folder from scratch again instead of opening up the last folder right away.

Since you have so many issues with Mail...
Launch Mail. From the Menu Bar, click Mail / Preferences.
Make note of all the preferences under each tab.
Close Mail.
Locate this file.
com.apple.Mail.plist
~/Library/Preferences.
Move that file to the Trash and restart your Mac.
Hopefully that will help...
