Bug SQL Dev 1.5.4 Build MAIN-5940 Exporting count(*) query results

when trying to export query results containing an analytic count the export dialog fails to open:
When running the following query
select count(*) over (partition by dummy order by rownum) xx
from dual;right clicking on the results grid and selecting export->xls (or any other format) fails to open the export dialog box.
changing the asterisk (*) to another value e.g. 1 or dummy corrects this issue for this particular query as does changing the analytic fuction to an aggregate function.

I get the same error when exporting the same statement - however, there is a known problem with 1.5.4 and failing on exports of certain statements (see 1.5.3 - Export results to XLS ORA-00936 which talks about there still being problems in 1.5.4 although the thread is titled 1.5.3).

  • File- Print not working from SQL Developer 1.2.1 Build MAIN-32.13

File->Print not working from SQL Developer 1.2.1 Build MAIN-32.13.
I downloaded sqldeveloper-1.2.1.3213.ZIP and extract to a local directory. From the extracted directory I ran ..\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper.exe from Windows XP sp2. The program itself seems to run just fine but File-Print doesn't do anything. In Help-About, Java Platform is reported as 1.5.0_06 and Oracle IDE is 1.2.1.3213. I'm not sure where to look for what is causing the problem.
    Thanks

I hadn't tried CTRL-P before but I did today. On the first attempt, I saw a small jump in the memory usage for sqldeveloper.exe as reported in Windows Task Manager. Otherwise, there was no change. A second CTRL-P in the same session produced a further bump but subsequent attempts in the same session produced no further change in CPU or Memory Usage.
Using Task Manager to monitor this further, I tried File->Print again and saw that sqldeveloper would periodically climb to 1 or 2 percent CPU and consume a little more memory. After a minute or so, though, all activity stops again.
I do not get a print dialog box from SQLDeveloper using either CTRL-P or File->Print

  • SQL Dev 2.1:Ability to save and load visual query models?

At SQL Dev 2.1, do we now have the ability to save and load visual query models as with TOAD? Or has that functionality been rolled into the for-pay Data Modeler extension? Seemed strange to hide the functionality deep within SQL Worksheet, then not allow query models to be saved or loaded. From what I recall, load/save was scheduled to be in 2.0.
I've not yet downloaded and installed 2.1, but also as I recall, it was promised to be a significant (e.g. new-feature rich) release. Has it lived up to that promise? Hoping also that it's not so buggy as to not merit an upgrade. At my workplace, folks have different versions of SQL Dev 1.X installed, each for the purpose of retaining functionality that got broken in future releases, etc. Would love to be able to advise them to retire their 1.X installs in favor of 2.1.

Dana, We are working on the query builder. We have not done anything with it in recent releases as we knew that it needed completely overhauled and a
couple of bug fixes were not going to give us the query builder we needed. Sue will be able to tell you more as the we get closer to releasing it as a feature. Thanks Barry. I know it's probably impossible to give firm dates, but my colleagues would love to know, ballpark, when query builder might be ready. Any particular year/quarter that's targeted for?
A lot of the bugs in the 2.1 are probably my fault as we decided to build a framework which allowed tasks to be scheduled like eclipse and push them to the
background. Coupled with this, we tore apart the worksheet to allow us to fit tasks in, but to also give us the ability to do some of the enhancement requests
that you guys, our users, have been asking for. While its not perfect, I believe its getting much better from both a functionality and performance standpoint. The
worksheet will not change again and there are no enhancements logged or scheduled which will do that. The issues that have come as part of 2.1 are being
addressed and we are fixing the highest priority ones as we speak. One of my priorities is to make these components as rock solid as possible. Thanks again. It really is a nice tool to work with, and I'm grateful to have it. I would choose stability for existing features over new ones, but I suppose there always has to be a balance in development. What was really scary in the past was getting bizarre / wrong answers in query results--that's a complete show stopper; e.g. clicking on a row/col intersection in a result set row would show strange and false values. New features can wait, but core functionality must be solid. If one can't presume integrity of query results, it's game over--using a version of SQL Developer that returns inconsistent result sets between runs could be Considered Harmful, or so it is to me.
Anyway, thanks for responding and I hope Oracle Corp gets you whatever assistance you need to improve the quality of existing functionality while adding new features; with one not being at the expense of the other. :-) Glad also to see Sue has authored a book on the tool. Hopefully that will drive customer demand and force increased allocation of development resources toward the product. I'd like to think having out-of-the-box tools that are a joy to use might even increase market share.
Data Modeler I would love to use, but am completely priced out of it. Enterprise Architect from Sparx Systems is the best value there so far as I can tell.

  • SQL Developer 3.2.09 (Build MAIN-09.23) Disconnected Worksheet bug

If you disconnect from a database, the SQL Worksheet that was using that connection loses its connection as shown in the drop-down at the top-right. (ok)
If you then click on the drop-down to re-connect, you can choose a database and a modal popup appears for you to enter the password - but if you have other connections already open, the focus moves from the password to the OK button and you can't enter the password. Since it's a modal popup, you're now stuck and have to kill SQL Developer (very annoying if you have many sql worksheets open with lots of sql in).
Am I doing something wrong and/or is there a workaround until this is fixed?
    Thanks,
    Mark

    Hi Mark,
Thanks for reporting this. A couple of possibilities for a workaround:
    1. Tools | Preferences | Database | Worksheet | Close all worksheets on disconnect.
    2. Store/Save your password in the Connection define (may not be desirable for security / may not work anyway)
We see something similar in this situation (switching connections in a worksheet without any disconnects) ...
Change database connection in SQL-Worksheet to a not connected db
where an obvious deadlock occurs. In your case, a full thread dump does not clearly state the deadlock, but there is probably one to be found upon closer examination.

  • Bugs in sqldeveloper 1.5.3 build main-5783

Downloaded today. Encountered the following problems
<ul><li>updating from 1.3.x, the "check for updates" facility found 1.5.3, downloaded &lt; 100k and asked me to restart. After restart it was still 1.3. </li>
<li>     if i clicked the 'download now' link in the 'check for updates' dialog box nothing happened</li>
<li>when i got through to the final step of the check for updates wizard, i get a very bizarre dialog box (can't see any way here to include an image).
    </li>
    </ul>
So, instead i manually download 1.5 and unzipped it.
<ul><li>sometimes when i close 1.5, the sqldeveloper.exe process stays around. I had 5 of them at one point!</li>
<li>the "dont show tips at startup" option does nothing. Tips ALWAYS appear.</li>
<li>     sometimes when i start 1.5, my list of connections is empty</li>
<li>     sometimes the 'new connection' menu option does nothing</li>
    </ul>

You must mean release 1.1.3, as we did not have a 1.3 production build.
The Check for Updates facility is no longer available for product update, it's there for adding in 3rd party extensions and third party drivers, which is why there was no change to your install.
The bizarre dialog you saw in the Check for Updates is a Java default that displays when something fails in the Check For Updates utility. In this particular case you're running into a bug that has been fixed in later release.
With the connection errors showing, you should delete the system folder ( as K suggested) to reset to factory defaults. That should allow the connections to behave correctly. This should include the Tip of the Day on startup. I have just verified that I can swicth this off in 1.5.3., so I suspect there is some corruption in the system folders. There is no problem deleting these as they are created on first startup and then maintained after that.

    Hi Frank
This message means that the driver code is unable to locate a DLL to load up and use. Looking at the message I suspect that the DLL in question <jtds-dist>\SSO\ntlmauth.dll .
There are a couple of ways of making the Java VM locate the DLL, assuming you are using windows then the easiest would be to add the directory <jtds-dist>\SSO to you path environment (replacing <jtds-dist> with the actual path to your JTDS distribution).

  • Numbering query results with a line number in SQL*Plus

Doesn't it stand to reason that in SQL*Plus there would be a way to number each query results sequentially with line numbers starting at 1 to n -- something option like from a SET command? I'm not talking about linesize.

There's a column rownum the engine adds into the result sets, just add it to the select list. Can use it to limit the result set (with some limitations) i.e.:
    select rownum, ... from ... where rownum <= 100
Can't use ">=", that condition will never be met but a subset could be used:
select * from ( select rownum as linenr, tab1.* from ... ) where linenr between 10 and 20

  • Minor bug with Connections node in SQL Dev. 2.1 EA1

This is minor compared to some of the other issues found with EA1.
When I expand the Connections node by clicking on the "+" I cannot collapse it when clicking on the "-". This happens both when migrating settings from 1.5.5 and when starting clean without migrating settings and then creating new connections. (I deleted the "system2.1.0.62.61" folder between tests.) I tried this by running "+<install_dir>+\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper.exe" and "+<install_dir>+\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper\bin\sqldeveloper.exe" to get a console window. • SQL Developer 4.0 Build MAIN-12.84 column width in data grid

A while ago I posted a thread about being unable to adjust the column width to "compress" everything on the screen to make the data more easily viewable.  I just installed the latest build, and while it works slightly better, it still does not seem that there is any way of making the query results take up the least possible space.  When you resize one column, it is affecting the size of other columns.  Also, having to resize the columns for every query would be a massive hassle.  Are there any plans to have an auto fit option that will fit to the least needed size that is necessary to display either the width of a heading and/or the data?  The lack of this ability is why I am forced to stick to an old version of SQL Developer.

yup, already fixed for EA3 - you'll see the grids size to the space required, not to fill the screen. Just like you see in version 3.2.

  • SQL Dev does not recognize NTILE

I admire how SQL Dev autocompletes GROUP BY statements. However, in a statement like
select eaddress, count(*) purchases, NTILE(10) OVER (ORDER BY count(*) asc) AS decile ... etc.
it keeps adding the NTILE clause to the GROUP BY statement. NTILE should be treated like an Aggregate function ala count(*), sum(x), etc.
Can you guys make sure all the Oracle "SQL for Analysis" functions (ala http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14223/analysis.htm) are properly treated in the GROUP BY autocomplete (ie, ignored just like any other aggregate function)?

  • Bug SQL Developer 3.0.04 Save Package Spec and Body to ips file bug

    Hi.
I have problem with export package body end header. Exported ips file have some rows switched compared to original source code.
SQL Developer version: 3.0.04. Build MAIN-04.34
    Error simulation:
    - Click on package header with right mouse button in SQL Developers Connections bar
    - In context menu choose 'Save Package Spec and Body...'
    - Save ips file... (Small bug: Offered file name is wrong (= last saved package/file, not actual name of package) :-( )
    - This file(source code) compare with original source code in Developer and u will see switched rows every +-90. row in source code.
Can u fix this in next version of SQL Developer?

  • BUG: SQL Developer 1.5.3 CSV export column order broken

There's a bug in the 1.5.3 release of SQL Developer regarding data export. This bug re-orders the column order in the data export to be alphabetically sorted. This produces mangled CSV files if used on a table or a view.
This is a critical bug to me since I need to produce lots of ad-hoc data CSV export files. I'm staying with SQL Developer 1.5.0.53 (53.38) for now as it doesn't have this problem.
This is the same bug as present in Jdeveloper 11.1 as described in my post here: BUG: Jdev 11.1.1.0.0 -- DB table data export column order is not preserved
    Quoted from that post:
When I connect to Oracle database, get the table list, right click on the table and select 'Export Data'->csv. The dialog box opens with three tabs: Format, Columns, Where. The column order displayed in both tabs Columns and Where is alphabetic. Because alphabetic ordering re-arranges columns from their initial ordering in the table, this screws up CSV export because columns are not in their intended order. This same problem occurs when I try to export data from views to generate a CSV file with a particular column order.
Please open/check bug report if it's already open.
    Thanks!

This happens with all of the export options for tables or views if you right click from the connections tab table list. If I pull it up in the main window and go to the data tab, I can then right click and it will keep the column id order for some of the views and tables. But not all.
I am running 1.5.3 Build Main 5783 on a Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 platform

  • SQL Dev result fetch performance

    I am using SQL Developer 1.2.0-Main 29.98
My dept. is looking to save the cost of TOAD renewal, but evaluators have raised the following issue:
Using a test query in both TOAD and SQL Developer, it takes 2x longer in SQL Dev to retrieve all rows (7864). Both tools return n first rows quickly, but using CTRL-A in SQL Dev to force the worksheet to display all the rows takes 88sec. with Sql Array Fetch Size=50, improving incrementally to a fastest 64 sec. with the Size = 5000. (It also lets me set the size even larger, even though the documentation says 5000 is the max, no improvement in performance though.) TOAD, using it's minimum memory threshhold method returns the data in 32 sec.
Are there any additional configuration changes I can make? I am a DBA, not a Java developer, so I have no knowledge of memory settings, etc. that can be defined for the Java environment.
I have seen in other threads that 2.0 is under development, is this performance issue already being addressed?
Any and all advice is appreciated, otherwise it's back to evaluating PL/SQL Developer.

If you want performance and no hassle, stick with the proven, robust TOAD. Period. The rest can be called wannabees.
Sqldev is still too young, has performance issues, crashes, has bugs, uses a lot of mem, ... but promises to be really competitive with TOAD in the future.
I do prefer sqldev's code editor and debugger over TOAD's and has a modern Java interface, easy customizable through user extensions in XML, and most important: it's Oracle and free. But you do need to put in a lot of patience and frustration...
